  He agreed terms in the summer so surely it is just a formality? Re-checking everything is the same as before?

  Id like to see him paraded before the fans in a toon shirt before the game. That could give the players and squad that much needed boost.

  If Taylor and Collo could stay fit for the rest of the season we really wouldn’t need another CB.

  Priority should be the inevitable replacement for Ba. Last time we sold our best striker there was no replacement until the summer. That can’t happen again.

  I also think we need a good winger in to improve our options there. HBA is great but after that they’re all pretty useless.

  The lad is a super player and is a massive improvement in what we have, deal should have been done in the summer mind, lets hope he stays injury free.

  Just our luck if he signs and then is out for 2 months.

  Give Marv a roaming role, Everton will most likely play Fellaini off Jelavic, so will basically have 5 in midfied at times, if we play Ba and Cisse we will be outnumbered yet again.

  Perch and Anita should cope with Baines and Pienaar hopefully, get Marv in behind Baines when he bombs on, slips some nice balls through to Papa and Bobs your uncle.

  The lack of English players isn’t a problem for me.
  Simple fact is, most of them are not good enough (hence the England team is terrible) and the ones that are good are ridiculously over priced.

  Besides, they’re all adopted Geordies anyway in our team.

  With Pardew finally conceding publicly that Cisse and Ba do not work as a 2, I may kill someone if he starts with a 442 with Ba & Cisse.

  Personally I think we’ll stick with the 433. I appear to be the only person who doesn’t mind having Cisse out wide. His wing play is fairly good, and he’s always going to pop up with a goal here and there. The Barcelona philosophy is to get your best players on the pitch and do everything to accommodate that.

  No it is not a right forward spot at all. He is expected as shown in the arsenal game to track back and cover the runs of the opposition LB. If it was a right forward spot he would remain upfield when the opposition is attacking. playing out wide you need to be able to beat people and deliver dangerous crosses into the box yet he hasnt done this once in many games and you would expect this to be done 5+ times a game. Just because a player gets the ball then passes it back is that deemed ok for you as it is retaining posession. you could bring a player in from the conference to control a ball and pass it back if thats all your looking for out of your wide player.

  What’s this? Some good news!? Then I shall end my blog hibernation – I’ve been too depressed to post lately.

  Ashley will need to dig deep into his pockets and sign at least 2 players this window (I would say 4 or 5 but that’s never going to happen in January). Debouchy will be a massive boost for us, him and Santon in the full back positions is very promising. Now we need some decent wingers… Good to see Marveaux playing well, if he can stay injury free then I think he’s going to be a big player for us.

  Normally I’d take a draw against an in-form Everton but we need all 3 points tonight. HWTL!

  cisse is clearly not a winger but is performing winger duty. but at the same time he is getting into the box in dangerous positions (and not receiving a pass).
  i think he is playing alright out of position but isn’t playing very like a classic winger.

  I think he is doing ok if you look at what his main attributes are and they clearly do not fit into being played out wide. But for me it would benefit the team so much more if we had obertan and marv either side of Cisse or Ba (even though i would drop him until confirmed his situation).

  How many players in our team have every shown themselves capable of beating a man and getting a dangerous ball into the box 5+ times every game? HBA possibly, but his crossing ability isn’t great. So if that’s what you’re looking for, then that’s unfortunate.

  And as for your idea that wide forwards are not required to get back to defend – no. Just no. That’s stupid. The defensive responsibilities of a player are entirely down to the manager, not the position he plays in. If a manager wants every single player on the pitch to help out defensively, then that’s what they’ll do.

  And as for your random insult, I’m pretty sure that our coaching staff – who’ve been in football for a combined total of over 80 years – have ‘learned the game of football’. Does it stop everyone from sitting on their computer claiming they know better? No.

  You choose to believe what you want and if you think Pardew has been shuffling the cards this season in the PL and really changed formation/tactics then that is your right.

  For me it has more or less juust been a case of mistaken identity if you can use that phrasing. It might look like a different formation, but under it all it is still a 4-4-2.

  We have played a different brand of football lately and it has looked refreshing (so did Pardew kill his darling then?)

  TDS some things are just plain to see and its clear to almost every newcastle fan that Cisse is being wasted out wide and the team and himself are suffering because of this. I think its obvious Pardew does not want to upset either Ba and cisse yet they cant play up top together in a 442 and so he wont drop either not so much about tactics more about bollx

  Discussing wide players has just made me realise that we don’t have a player in the squad who can cross the ball.

  Although Marveaux may be able to, judging by that insane outside-of-the-boot assist against Arsenal the other day. That was absolutely beautiful. The audacity to pull that off when we’re 3-2 down at the Emirates haha.

  you’ve got it in a nutshell. everyone can see it except Pardew. it’s not always about getting your best 11 players out there, it’s about the best formation. We’ve got 2 great number 9′s who must be rotated. It’s not rocket science

  My original point though was that I’m not sure it’s a bad idea to have them both on the pitch, because they’re both good goalscorers – and until recently we couldn’t buy a goal.

  Clearly he’s not wonderful out wide, no one’s claiming that, but I feel better with him on the pitch. I wish Pardew would rotate them though – along with Hatem when fit – to keep the other team on their toes.

  Having said all that, I can’t wait for Ba to leave and this circus to end. Brilliant player, but it’s a terrible distraction at a time when we don’t need it, and the thought of Obertan/Hatem/Marveaux either side of Cisse is mouth watering.

  Its like you say. Everything has gone against us this season.

  We have been missing Taylor (both), cabaye, obertan, tiote, perch, Ben arfa all for some part of the season.

  We also have underperformed from a player point of view and also from a management point of view.

  We failed in the transfer market to strengthen the obvious area, defence, as you say it’s not hindsight as we have know this for over a year now.

  We basically need to get as many if those things put right as possible. We need to strengthen in the window.

  I think pardew did persist too long with Jonas and with Ba and cisse as a pair (now cisse wide isn’t great) but at the end of the day all things have been a problem.

  Who knows more signings could have meant more options and also more rest so possibly less injuries. Hyperthetical I know but there is some basis to it.

  Also on crossing ability why does pardew not take Simpson aside and say wtf are you doing with them pitching wedge type of floated crosses. I mean he only uses this technique and this is mainly only used to stand the ball up when you are at the byline as and can drop it around 5 yards out for a simple header. Simpson uses this technique all the time floating them in to the edge of the area. No striker is going to generate the power to beat the GK from a cross like that even if he is unmarked. Why not just say to simmo look juts get your foot behind the ball i don’t mind if you hit the first man or overhit the cross just deliver it in with pace. Its things like this that really make me question pards and the coaching team!!

  TDS i understand about what your saying i mean how hard would it be to drop Ba in his current form yet Cisse clearly doesnt deserve to be dropped until he hits a bad patch when playing through the middle. And yes it is nice to see tow quality players on the pitch who can score quality goals. For me Pards gets paid the big bucks to make these decisions i would bet my life Ferguson would have one of them benched.

  I dont understand how anyone can believe a bunch of idoits that suggest they are ITK buy yet name strikers either past their peak and overaged or players that failed a medical. One idoit ITK spreads a rumour while the rest follow it. Why will Ashley spend money on strikers aged over 29 unless they are free agents and in the same mould like imbrahimovic.

  Please to stop embarrassing yourselves on Twitter and to the world and come up with potentially young players which looks possible rather than odemwingie or a reject like Maiga. What looks possible is Sakho, that young striker from St Einnes, Gamiero looks possible and so does sissokho.

  Maybe Pardew feels pressure not to drop the player that the club spent £10m on? I know it’s not that huge a fee, given that we sold the pony for 35, but for Ashley that’s a lot of money. (I’m not suggesting that’s a good reason – but I imagine it’s quite possible).

  Tonight would be an ideal time to drop Cisse – he could start up top against Brighton – but then I’m not sure we have enough players to fill the front 3 without him tonight. I don’t want Sammy anywhere near the pitch again!

  Yes no doubt he is under pressure but as you said thats no excuse. I really don’t like Ba tbh ever since he spat his dummy out about playing on the left and watch him continually shoot from all over the pitch not playing in cisee etc. The fact that he is clearly looking to move has just made the dislike stronger i dont care if he had 20 goals. This is an ideal time to drop Ba and play Cisse as he can say he wont start Ba until his future is confirmed.

  Toby Alderweireld is fast and can add goals to the team. Sakho is a similar type player, but I think Aldereireld is better on the ball. His technique is incredible. £6m would be a good deal. He’s a fantastic player. Debuchy, Alderweild, Sissoko and Remy would be the ideal transfer window for us.

  Also, Ba leaving is a problem in reality. We “hope” Cisse hits form when back in position and he probably will, BUT we are loosing out top goal scorer from this and last season. That can have an effect, however, it could turn out to be a positive one.

  One of me mates is a “gooner” and he’s even stated that Ba’s a selfish player….he’s certainly not a play maker.
  I think Pards has played it well…he’s forced Demba’s hand early on, to make a choice…that way we know now early in the window that he is not committed to the club early on. IMO and based on what AP said…..its 1 out and 2 in….so I am expecting two strikers….cos’ quite simply we need competition!!! Admittedly its gonna cost MA a lot more but he had a choice in the summer and he chose not to take it then….now he has no choice with our position in the league fragile.

  Personally I think Ba is a great striker, but AP was played by his agents and Ba so Ba played in the middle and was always in the shop window….remember the dummy being spat out cos’ Ba was not played in the middle and out on the wing / benched in the Everton game!! NUFC and the fans have been brilliant to Ba and his career…….but the lad was always a “Journeyman”……to me it is so clear that Cisse’s motives are completely different….the lad loves NUFC and we love him. I wish Ba well for the future but I feel relieved and liberated that he is on his way out….expect it to possibly go on and on while other clubs come in…..so Ba and his agents may be holding out for the best deal……I think the “TEAM” as a whole will score a lot more goals…bring in Remy and ANO striker…one that can play it along the ground/play wing as well. Time to move forward and think forward! HWTL

  We need at least 3 quality strikers in the squad until the summer. If Ba goes, we’ll have just one, so Benteke and Remy would be ideal. Remember in the summer, we made a bid for Luuk De Jong to be in a squad with Ba and Cisse. We now need a Remy type player and another Ba type.

  Transfer season and it all kicks off re NUFC.
  I am not convinced on Debuchy and the claim by Proud that it’s a done deal as SSN have mentioned nothing at all and they are quick with deals going through.
  As for Ba – not a done deal as we don’t know what they are offering him. He may want more money re wages but I am pretty sure his move will be sorted tonight and formally confirmed. It is the speed of transfers done at other clubs which does not seem to happen at NUFC.
  If there is outgoings then there has to be incomings or I will have to start to side with the MA haters on here as without any additions I can see a relegation happening and then a large ‘fire sale’ in the summer and the club languishing in Championship for a long time.
  This is a defining moment in the MA era and it’s now or never to deliver and invest in the playing squad proper rather than just a sole focus on balancing the books.
  Too many rumours linking us with numerous players but none of real substance to give real encouragement that the squad will be strengthened. Football is not a hard job and even us posting on here the fans can clearly see what areas need improving. What gets me is that those in charge don’t and hence nothing happens. Really bugs me that AP acts more like a politician than a football manager. Much rather him be upfront and stop playing games with fans via the media. We are talking about blokes who kick a ball around after all as a job not finding a cure for terminal illness or such like.

  breno95 its clear that debuchy is signing far too many credible sources claiming its already done (or 95%) and i would be surprised if we dont see him in the stands tonight.

  I think realistically we need to be looking at Debuchy, a good quality CB and a ST and if that happens in this window take that as we have done well. We all want more but if based on previous experiences i would be very happy with the above.

  To need or not to need, that is the question…
  U can’t argue his goal ratio. But do i think with Cisse alone up top in maybe a 4-3-3 will give us better balance? Yes, i do.
  And i don’t doubt his ability despite a poor first half of the season.

  Look at the pluses and minuses of Ba leaving?
  Plusses:
  - Cisse in a central role up top
  - Proper servers of the ball on either side of him
  - Ba was selfish allot of times, it’ll be a better team game up top now imo
  - Contract issues will no longer be a distraction for NUFC

  Minuses:
  - Ba was on form, always consistent, scored plenty of goals
  - Seemed to be a leader on the pitch, he had the captaincy once.
  - Players seemed to trust him infront of goal

  A few there, probably more to consider, but u get the picture.
  Time will show if we needed him or not. I think we’ll rebalance the team differently and it’ll work out just fine.

  Ibrahimovic and Drogba were on a par with Ba when they were at their peak. Don’t rate Mario Gomez, think he’s an average striker. Benzema is a great player, however Ba is more threatening outside the box and in the air. Cavani is more of a Remy type player. Klose is a great player, but Ba has more pace and is better at shooting from outside the 18 yard box. Van Persie isn’t as good as Ba in the air.

  Ba is the ulitmate striker. He’s got everything. He just needs to improve his shooting with his left foot. This is a major setback for us. Alan Pardew is a plonker for saying that we’ll cope.

  I think Cisse is one of the best finishers I’ve seen in years. Reminds me a lot of Andy Cole in how relaxed and confident he is in fron of goal. Cant wait to see guys like him and Marv and HBA playing close together with fewer mad punts from Krul, as instructed by Pards. We have sold top players in the past Supermac, Beardsley, Gascoigne, Waddle, Ferdinand and Carroll to name a few and we are still around.   Demba has some downsides too.
  He’s greedy.
  He’s not a very good Dribbler.
  He’s quite clumbsy.
  For a big guy, he could and should be a better target man.

  Pretty annoying that what ever Liverpool and Chelsea doin the transfer market, it always seems to effect nufc. Last time everything boiled down to Torres going to Chelsea from Liverpool before NUFC missed out with losing Carroll to Liverpool. Now it is happening again with Ba lol. Except Sturride leaves Chelsea for Liverpool and NUFC lose out AGAIN with Ba going to Chelsea lol.   Havent been here in a while!

  Ok guys so here is the situation, go back 6 month ago, pre season it was all this 4-2-3-1 malarky with CISSE lone striker, and I was like hey what about this guy Demba Ba. Arguably the reason we finished as high as we did as alot of our points came in early season when our defence was solid for the first 11 games, or whatever until Taylor, Colo got injured.

  THEN Ba scores more then people are like what is up with Cisse.

  So listen to me, Cisse is having the same problem Ba had last year in the second half of the season. He has been playing deep, and wide.

  He will score goals again when placed in a central position. Is he a better striker than Ba, no I dont think he is. Ba has more physical presence and that goes a long way in the PL. Ameobi has been doing much better since he has been made aware he actually can use it.

  Cisse is a poacher, so providing we get 2 DECENT wingers we will be fine.

  If I were Pardew I would play

  Anita — Williamson — Coloccini — Santon

  I think my team has more balance, more forward options and defensive. I think we need to think about the likes of Fellaini, Pienaar, Baines who are the main attacking threat behind the main striker(s).

  With 3 holding players in the centre, Marveaux and Obertan will need to do limited defensive duties, and we can counter with pace. With playing Obertan higher up the pitch I believe it would restrict Baines to move forward. My only worry is Cisse not having that physical presence to hold the ball up against 2 out of Distin Heitinga or Jagielka all taller, stronger players, who arent exactly slow either, especially Distin.

  I agree with you, but unfortunately it is extremely demoralising that we cant keep hold of players as newcastle united. We have not won anything in my lifetime, other than the championship, and constantly disappointed by lack of news. I would like to share your optimism, but i cant see us competing until someone with commonsense gets involved with the club. Essentially we support businesses, and the best brand does the best. You can liken man utd chelsea and aresenal to panasonic, apple and samsung…always at the top of the technology world, whereas we would be toshiba and mitsibishi…just mosy along making a few decent products but never the ones anyone wants to buy. Been telling man utd fans this for years, they are just consumers who buy into the addidas/nike effect. Sheep. But still jealous.

  Chelsea, Man City and Spurs have the strongest squads. Man Utd have an average squad with no decent midfielders apart from Valencia and maybe Kagawa.

  Just face it, the premier league isn’t as good as it used to be 5 years ago.

  Over the last few years, the majority of English clubs have struggled in the Europa league and champions league. Man City wee banged out early on. Man Utd got beat by Ajax at home last season and should’ve lost to Braga at home. They’re overrated and nowhere near as good as they used to be.

  I expect a big performance tonight and am guessing that Ba wasnt a good guy for morale. However have been saying all season and since he signed that Santon cant defend, especially on his ;left, so we really do need another centre half, preferably one with size and pace as Colo needs both , and the full backs will need the help too. Debuchy could prove an inspired signing, he really is quality. We have to give up on this age obsession if we are to get more “purples” . 27 is not old.

  BA was a bit selfish and this affected Cisse a lot….since they were paired BA barely passed the ball to Cisse while in the penalty area .   I know what I’m talking about. I previously stated that Marveaux was a decent/influential player and people were suggesting that he was a poor player (in my opinion done deliberately, as you all are aware that I’m not a fan of Willo and Simmo). The same thing applies with Abeid. I have seen him play competitively and for the reserves and know that he’s quality. AC Milan have recently been linked with him.

  There was talk of him replacing Tiote last January. He might have a bit of an attitude problem. That might be why he isn’t starting more regularly.

  Munster – on Santon – imo he is a massive liability defensively. Watch him tonight, when he attacks he keeps coming inside towards the middle of the pitch, loses the ball, and is then way out of position.When the oppo play the ball forward – especially into his defensive position – the two CH’s get pulled all over trying to cover for him. This is a big reason for Colo not looking as good this season.

  Santon might be a good footballer and athlete but he is a lousy defender – and its defending that we want from him first and foremost.

  Read this article….could be papertalk but given its a broadsheet n not a tabloid reckon there could be something in it. Think Telegraph is good for sport….

  Billythefish – agree totally that we’ve been playing with 10 men with Cisse out wide and itts been a big factor in our results. We need to replace Ba with a forward with pace who can run the channels, Remy would be ideal and would be a far better partner for Cisse than Ba.

  Interesting article in Telegraph re BA ” I can still vividly remember the first time I met Ba. It was an interview only a few hours after he had signed for Newcastle and I wanted to know why he had turned down offers from elsewhere.

  Did he know about the region’s passion for football, the fans and their love for a striker? Did he like the stadium? Did the manager say something that helped make up his mind?

  There was no excitement. No emotion. “I asked my agent, which club has made me the best offer? He said Newcastle so I signed for them.”
  Maybe that says it all!

  Ba leaving surely makes Padews job a lot easier? We should see a much better balance to the side.
  We still need 2 more players in CB and CF, if we get Debuchy and good players for these positions I will be a lot more confident for the second half of the season. If not its a massive gamble on Shola or Cisse not getting injured. Ashley knows best and Horrible Derek.

  If Pardew is looking for a striker who has the lot, he could do no better than Fernando Llorente (Athletic Bilbao). Out of contract at the end of the season and Athletic would take anything rather than nothing to move him on, as he has made his intentions clear that he wants to move on. Big, strong, quick, powerful in the air, great finisher and an exquisite first touch. I have seen him on countless occasions here ( I live in Bilbao currently), and this guy is the real deal.
