Newcastle Reported To Be After Modibo Maiga

Newcastle went after Modibo Maiga in the summer of 2011, but couldn’t get him to St. James Park that summer,  as last day efforts to sign the 25 year-old striker  fell short.

modibo maiga west ham

Modibo Maiga – Newcastle interested again in this striker?

And in the following December, Newcastle lined up an agreement for him from his French club Sochaux for around £7M, but then surprisingly he failed a medical on December 13th (unlucky for some), and that was it, and the Magpies brough in Papiss Cisse in January of last year to solve our striker problem.

But now with Demba Ba likely to leave in January, Newcastle are looking to see which strikers may be available, and there’s a report in the Daily Mail today that they are interested in Maiga, who was signed by West Ham last summer, and we think the fee was a lot less than   £7M.

This season he’s appeared 16 times for the Hammers in all competitions and scored four goals, although he doesn’t start for the Hammers, and he was a substitute for West Ham in their 2-1 home win against Norwich yesterday, so we wonder just how good this guy is.

And if he failed a medical just over a year ago, how would he pass a medical if Newcastle can agree terms with West Ham for the striker?

This would appear to be a strange move for Newcastle to make, and we wonder if it’s just another made up story.

What do you think?

I love how the journos just copy and paste the same news every window.

I also love how some actually believe it.

Given the number of excellent players we are and continue to be linked with, Maiga just isn’t in the same league. He wasn’t that interested when we tried to get him a while back; he’s not exactly set West Ham alight with his exploits – what gives him any credit to be seriously linked with NUFC??

I’ve got a problem with Debuchy signing.

With him, Cabaye, Santon, Krul and Perchinho all in the team at once there will be so many hard ons in ST James Park that half of Tyneside will be impregnated just by the aura of 50 000 erect willys.

I’m going have to change my seat near the family area to somewhere a little more suitable.

    Half time hankies anyone?

Loic was driving but he was stuck in first gear and going pretty slow so I could see bramble was next to him. Read into that what you will.

Not interested? Wasn’t he the player who went on strike becausenhis club rejected a 1st bid from us. And every one on here knows he didn’t fail is medical with us. I think he would be a good player for us however not good enough to replace ba. And the graham carr 1st suggested this bloke. I think its paper talk anyway

Beattie – I went to watch Marseilles play a couple of weeks ago against L’Orient as my friend was match sponsor for the game and L’Orient fans were protesting against something and all brought white hankies to wave before kick off – maybe we should bring that to the toon?!

They went on to win 3-0 so it must’ve worked! 🙂

In the five years Mike Ashley has been here,we have been involved in three relegation battles, actually been relegated and suffered three lots of our most goals conceded and our worst ever points tally,we’ve been knocked out of the FA cup by lower division opposition (twice) one of those team’s playing non league just a couple of years ago,we’ve also just suffered our worst defeat since the Premiership began and have seen some of the lowest EPL attendances since our famous stadium was renevated .
    All hail Mike Ashley .

ARE YOU FOR REAL EDfirstly i would give more credibility to the story if it was in the womans own,the peice of arse wipe prints any crap ,secondly why would we want a player who cant even get into west hams team, and is also suspect ,fitness wise ,i know we got ba with the same condition but that was for free,i dont even know why you read the mail, when did a report in the mail last come true, now that is a test for the memory

Shouldn’t we be aiming 4 a bit bigger fish than Maiga to replace ba? I mean he is a bit part player at w h and proved he can’t cut the prem. Would be another massive stride back
