Vurnon Anita And Shola Ameobi Start

7:06 pm, Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 704 Comments

everton-fc_crest

Vurnon Anita is fit again and starts tonight for Newcastle against Everton, and Shola Ameobi gets a start in place of Demba Ba.

With Demba Ba in discussion with Chelsea he has been withdrawn from the squad for tonight’s game with Everton – and he could have played his last game for Newcastle.

It looks like Newcastle will at least start with a variation of a 4-5-1 system and it could be that Shola is the man up front, and Mike Williamson returns in the center of defense, and as expected the reliable James Perch comes in for the injured Danny Simpson at right back.

We expect Papiss Cisse to play in the center and slightly behind Shola, so he can get the knock-ons and any loose balls that come his way in the box.

For Everton both Steven Pienaar and Leighton Baines start the game – after being doubtful – and Marouane Fellaini also starts after serving his three match ban for violent conduct during the 1-1 draw at Stoke on 15th December.

Mathieu Debuchy is expected to watch this game in the stands, and he could even make his debut at Brighton on Saturday if things go as planned and he’s signed in the next couple of days.

Newcastle need to get all 3 points tonight – it’s as simple as that.

Howay The Lads!!

Shola is probably a direct replacement for Ba.
AP said they had would do it all on the board before Everton, resting the players from training otherwise.

  • 2 hatem786 // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:07 PM

    good luck

  • 3 89Norcal // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:08 PM

ffs why does Pardew bother throwing Shola a bone, Cisse alone please.

If this doesn’t work even I will have lost faith in the man.

  • 4 Nufc-83 // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:09 PM

Please say its True 442. If i see cisse on the right im gonna go mental. Hate pardew get him out cnut

  • 5 DoddsyNufc // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:09 PM

Absolute pisstake!! We can have cisse in his natural position yet pardew keeps him out of it. Total joke that man is. Shola is a pile of s**t. Laughable

  • 6 ochytoon // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:10 PM

So did Pardew promise Shola a starting, central role if he didn’t go to ACON?

  • 7 Jayden // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:10 PM

The one situation where I would prefer 4-4-2…

  • 8 Carryingcoals // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:10 PM

when we beat bordeaux 3-0 didnt we put OBa and Cisse either side of Shola? Maybe thats pardews thinking. Marveaux is good in CM too

    HOWEVER

Id still have liked |Cisse through the middle, ridiculous not having him there. This is the perfect opportunity for us to be a bit relieved with Ba going.

Could come back to bite pards big style here

Off to the match full of optimism nonetheless…

  • 9 Dannyo // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:11 PM

    @ochytoon
No need for AP to promise Shola anything, Shola had already signed his contract with the clause in it.

  • 10 Cool Hand Luke // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Lads, theres no way thats a formation with Cisse on right wing, Cisse in the middle and Shola on the wing, or a 4-4-2 with Shola and Cisse up top

cisse should be through middle but guess his thinking is we have trained for this formation best stick with it

  • 17 Spreadthetoon // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:15 PM

    Dannyo
Ba had signed his contract as a player of NUFC……but seemed unable/unwilling to play on the wing…..so AP appeased him. Seems a bad trait…..will be seriously v. angry if our no.9 who was signed as our “MAIN” striker is not playing centrally cos he wants to keep Shola on-side.
There is evidently no more excuse for Cisse to be played out on the wing! None.

  • 18 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:16 PM

We’ll lose 3-1 today. Perch is a poor right back and Williamson is a disgrace. Ameobi is useless. Can see Marveaux or Anita getting man of the match again.

check the toastie // Jan 2, 2013 at 6:45 PM

Think it will be 442 tonight back to hoof ball, we have knocked it about too well lately.

    Krul
    Perch Willo Collo Santon
    Obertan Anita Tiote Marv
    Shola Cisse

Typically of Pardew he will play Shola citing how he is going to fill Ba’s boots and how he is a club legend, needed him for set pieces, blah blah blah.

However it will result in no throwing out of the ball and Krul going from back to front, actually the tactic might work, but it is typical Parsnip to play Shola, even though he is shite from the start and is only good for 30 minutes max.

I add if it is not 442 and is 4231 with Cisse out wide Pardew should be instantly sacked, i cant believe he is going to play Cisse or Shola wide right tracking Baines and Pienaar, oh my word, we are going down if he does this.

Will have lost completely any fiath i had in him, which i may add is not a lot.

  • 20 Transfer Sage // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:16 PM

Looks like a 442 with marv left and obertan right

    Wait and see though

  • 21 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:16 PM

If it’s not 442 as advertised on the official website, then I guess we had very limited options of wingers. Marveaux doesn’t like to play there and Ferguson, Sammy are probably not good enough yet in Pardew’s eyes to start. Until Ben Arfa comes back we will have to do with a make shift winger.

  • 22 ToonDownSouth // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:17 PM

*sigh* What will Debuchy think ey?

  • 23 Toon1978 // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:17 PM

I can’t understand Pardew’s line up. Cisse scored in nearly every game he played last season in the central role. Ba is away yet he slots Ameobi into that position with Cisse out wide. Part of me thinks this has to be a 442 formation OR Pardew has lost the plot completly.

  • 24 tonynufc // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:17 PM

    @89norcal.
i use them but sick of it freezing and popups

  • 25 Beattie25 // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:17 PM

You have to say that it is very bizarre of Pardew.

    I think he’s a goner soon.

  • 26 seantoon // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:17 PM

I think 4-4-2 with shoal playing is a good lineup! Get shola marking fellaini at set pieces. We all know Williamson can’t be trusted marking the biggest man on the pitch

  • 27 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:17 PM

We are a joke club and need to make at least 5 signings this month to compensate for the loss of the best striker in the league.

  • 28 geordie157 // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:18 PM

As much as i want to see Cisse up front in a central role, i think Shola might be a sensible choice, adds much needed height to the team as Everton have some good players in the air, plus he can hold the ball up and create chances for Cisse, or help get us further up the pitch.

  • 29 pizzicatochan // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:18 PM

With Shola starting, the hold-up play helps Cisse.

  • 30 Kyo // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:18 PM

If Shola is alone up front then I’m taking a coach to Newcastle and personally sacking him myself.

  • 35 papattack // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:19 PM

is he trying to upset cisse aswell as what he did to ba by playing him out wide??

im very much pro pardew but cisse offers nothing on the wing so if we’re going to play with two strikers play 442 or dont bother.

if we win il take it all back but cisse is never gunna get on a scoring run on the bloody wing. ridiculous!!!!

Last time when Perch played at RB was in Goodison… does anybody remember what happend there and how Pardew swap his position with Anita’s? I was a optimist until I saw the teamsheet.

  • 39 Dannyo // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:22 PM

    @Spreadthetoon
Thing with the team is, Ba was only withdrawn today – Pardew will have worked on team shape and patterns of play etc prior to today for this game. A straight swap for Shola causes least disruptions to team’s plans, so Cissé may well play wide.

It can still change throughout the course of the game ofc.

  • 40 2_goal_tino // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:22 PM

If there is one thing to prove beyond all doubt that we need investment it is that bench! Take Elliot out and they must have less than 50 professional appearances, at any level, all together!

But Simmo is injured and Tav isn’t much stronger than Perch. We could put Anita there but we’ll lose his much needed creativity in midfield.

We really are paper thin atm.

  • 43 gonufc (up and Hatem) // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:23 PM

Never said anything about Pardew and his job before, but if Cisse plays on the right tonight I don’t want Pardew there tomorrow morning. Seriously.

  • 44 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:23 PM

You can’t criticise Ba for leaving. We should’ve increased his salary. Again, it’s the boards fault. He’s worth £140m if Carroll’s worth £35m.

If we would’ve signed our targets last summer, we wouldn’t have been in this situation.

  • 45 Fostino // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:23 PM

sammy should play instead of shola & cisse up front. i think pardrew worried about defending set pieces so big ameobi on

    cool hand luke

even if that’s right, since when is shola a right winger and able to last more than 20 mins?

why do players have a hold over pardew? his management is so weak, defensive and predictable.

Obi and marv either side of cisse would have been great.

  • 52 spitfire_ // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:25 PM

    89Norcal

Santon on the right and Ferguson on the left… is not a rocket science. Santon regulary play in those positions… Perch not. It will be soo funny Baines and the otherone against Cisse and Perch.

  • 53 jimmysmith // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:25 PM

We really just don’t have the balance of players to set up a side with all players in their best and natural positions.

This seems our biggest problem to me , lack of wingers.

  • 54 check the toastie // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:25 PM

Norcal89, not hard to predict Pardew, he simply picks players to do jobs there not very good at, the man is a joke, he is now expecting Cisse to track back hopefully Cisse is the middle of the 3 just playing off Shola, rather than being wide right.

Would have Obertan there tonight, he will give Baines something to think about, maybe restrict him getting forward as much, Gabby has looked good this year. Cisse through the middle hopefully, if it is then it is a decent side, obviously apart from Willo, but somebody has to be capable of heading the ball away, we maybe in trouble from set pieces for sure.

    Krul
    Perch Willo Collo Santon
    Anita Tiote
    Obertoon Cisse Marv
    Shola

It will mean we will be booting it long to Shola a bit more than the last few games though. pffffftttt

  • 55 Cool Hand Luke // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:26 PM

I would expect Anita to be also covering the left flank to help Perch, hes more valuable in the center of the park than perch though as he has more energy and better passing range.

I will concede that if Cisse’s tracking back is Pardew’s doing, that’s just ridiculous. All he does is throw himself around and get the RB’s way. He’s done that for the last 2 games.

But I won’t hop on the S.S. Pardew at Full Fault, not with these amount of injuries and with the football we were playing last year and recently. You can sail off without me :)

Well, if we play like our recent games (without folding at the end) we will do well today. I don’t think our gamplan has changed much against Everton compared to Man U and Arsenal tbh.
Shola is excellent on hold up play and that’ll help Cisse through.

I think those two will be interchanging allot.

  • 72 Fostino // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:33 PM

Good news he has gone, we move on. Pardew has said the deal is done.

Has set the team up with Shola a straight replacement for Ba, Cisse is tracking Baines, great thinking Pardumb you total clutz, we are in trouble because the manager is clueless. However sounds like its the last time, Cisse should be gutted with his role. hmmmmffff, phhhfffff.

yes our match preparations have worked a treat. we’ve lost 10 out of 12 including Europa. Everton are expecting that formation, why not grow a pair, be imaginative and do something different.

  • 106 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:41 PM

Rotonda…it is a 4-3-3 with Shola on top and Cisse our right.

…Pardew said they had done the preparations and wanted to change as little as much – Cisse will be on top in the future if we are to believe the silver supremo himself :)

“For us, it’s not a bad thing because of all the uncertainty of whether he was going to stay is now done. We can move on, we’re a massive club here. This club is bigger than any player for sure. In some respects, I’m pleased.”

  • 119 Raj // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:45 PM

I believe he’s put shola up front coz he is not much of a sprinter anymore. Will just hold up, back towards goal, passing to wings, occasional head ons to Cisse, who will be coming from behind him and run towards goal.. Oba and Marv either end.

If this is the thought, good for Pards. I’m shutting down my stream if Cisse’s out right. That would be outrageous audacity from the 8-year pundit!!

And ya folks, a very Happy New Year to Ed and y’all from India. HWTL, up up and awayyy..

  • 124 danuneek // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:47 PM

Im sorry but hes got to put cisse up front, surely?!! We dont want cisse tracking back against baines and piennar. Perhaps thats his thinking, occupy baines with cisse attacking that right. But for me I would have started with: bigi and tiote in the middle, obertan, anita, marveux and then cisse.

  • 125 nufc786 // Jan 2, 2013 at 7:48 PM

Here’s a bit more from Alan Pardew on the departure of Demba Ba:

“We prepared yesterday with Demba in the side. I was assuming that, I was in the dark as I have been on most of this particular deal because obviously the ball was in Demba’s court. We had no inclination yesterday, we set up the team with Papiss in his normal role when Demba played. Although I’m tempted to change, I haven’t, I’ve just put Shola straight in for Demba. But going forward, Papiss will go through the middle for us. Tonight he starts out on that right hand side where he has done terrific for us.”

he is very greedy and selfish and i havent liked his attiude since he came back from the african nations cup

  • 229 Spuggy // Jan 2, 2013 at 8:25 PM

Getting played off the park they’re winning all the second balls, we can’t keep possession and we look shakey at the back. Only a matter of time.

  • 230 RonVanDam // Jan 2, 2013 at 8:25 PM

Attack FFS. This is the worst part of Pardews Tactic. Once you start leading against a tough opponent – go to defensive mode.

If we keep defending, players will be constantly under immense pressure and give away free kicks, penalty and get cards.

  • 231 ajcrawfs // Jan 2, 2013 at 8:26 PM

    Obertan looks decent here

  • 287 Nufc-83 // Jan 2, 2013 at 8:47 PM

  • 316 Crow59 // Jan 2, 2013 at 8:52 PM

i think so far weve not been to bad, as for the ameobi selection youve got to give it to pardew, affective in the final third to an extent as he offers a target but defensively in set piece situations is where hes vital as everton are a decent team aerially, so far so good now lets find ourselves a winner. Less silly challenges from tiote and get obertoon more in the game and i think we can find 3 points HWTL

  • 317 Beattie25 // Jan 2, 2013 at 8:53 PM

Our defense gives us such an air of uncertainty that we cannot relax.

We need a leader in that back 4 and i’m sorry Colo is not it.

Willo being dragged all over the place and Perch is extremely nervous.

Why can we play so well at keeping the ball against Man U and Arsenal and play so poorly today?

I’ll tell you how, giving Everton too much respect. One of Pardew’s biggest flaws is trying to neautrilise problems rather than creating them.

  • 318 HullMag6 // Jan 2, 2013 at 8:54 PM

I think this match would have suited Jonas too.

I just see us losing if Everton pressure us the same again. Well tire again and limited options on the bench.

They keep it 6yard box max, if you play a man on the post then opposition can harass the keeper unlike corners where the ball is played from the byline meaning everyone is onside no matter

  • 352 Beattie25 // Jan 2, 2013 at 9:03 PM

Krul is at fault for the free kick.

At that distance if Baines curls it it would take an eon for it to reach the goal meaning Krul didn’t have to move 2 steps so early.

He has been poor this year for me.

bigi with Tiote in the middle, Marv infront of them. Anita on the right, put Ameobi out and Fergy on the left?

  • 512 NUFCarter // Jan 2, 2013 at 9:38 PM

    What was bigi thinking

  • 513 89Norcal // Jan 2, 2013 at 9:38 PM

    Turkish

We were excellent in the midfield in the 1st half. Triangles and solid possession, so not sure what you’re talking about..

It’s the constant blunders of our defense that drop a nuke on our morale. The players are sick of seeing us conede poor goals.

Now we are so paper thin we have no one to fill in for Marveaux or Gabby.

  • 514 jimiley // Jan 2, 2013 at 9:38 PM

There is no need to panic at this stage. We should just take one game at a time and see where we finish at the end of the season. We need to get behind Alan and the team.

    WOW Pardew wow:
    1. Ba leaves and what do you do?? Play Shola upfront and Cisse out wide.
    2. You take off a potent threat of ours in Obertan and put on a defnsive midfielder at 1-2 down.
    3. You make every player change position in last 20 mins meaning we dont have a decent attempt even.

Hats off Mr Pardew you’re a joke. Your assistants like John Carver and Steve Stone are gobshite as well.

  • 632 toonicle // Jan 2, 2013 at 9:58 PM

Santon played like garbage today and couldn’t make a cross to save his mum’s life. Another good start to the game ends in depression. Padrs has no idea what to do with subs, just randomly sends kids out there and takes off the best performing players (Obertan) first. Disgrace.

Pardew is not a manager he is headless chicken. 4-2-3-1 was Hoof ball, 4-3-3 was hoof ball. Whole game today was based around shola ameobi. the lack in effort and creativity in our current players and our coaching staff is laughable.

(not to mention that all the refs hate us and call the stupidest fouls against us)

  • 650 Luke-A-Like // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:01 PM

I admire what Alan Pardew did last season and don’t entirely blame him but why when we have Ba out the squad would you play Cisse on the right and shitty Ameobi down the middle? I’m saying Pardew out for the first time! Dont see why Debuchy would sign after seeing that shit! The ball was in the air more than it was on the floor!

  • 651 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:01 PM

Looks like we are a small club in the north east afterall, we at least under Ashley and Pardew. This transfer window is the most important in a long time and we need to bring players in

If we end up in the drop zone this will be difficult to get out of.
The lads look drained, their heads are down.
Felliani shouldn’t have been on the pitch,he shoulda been out or at least 6 games.
AP will have to play the young lads in the cup as we just can’t give it a go,the concentration has got to be on the league.

it’s players like williamson, tiote, shola,… that make us poor!
pardew makes the worst substitutions he’s no tactical genius
new manager, new striker , (new) playmaker, new central defender and we’ll be fine.

  • 656 Crawfordladd17 // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:02 PM

Rubbish, rubbish absolute rubbish. Apart from Fellani, Baines and Pienaar Everton aren’t a good side, yea ok Jag is decent as is Jealvic, but the rest poo. Us Cabaye, and Ben Arfa only who are both injured, and the rest who are good, ie Colo, Krul, Santon, Tiote, and Cisse when they actually give a f*ck. Marveaux and Anita getting better, not quite there yet. We really need a striker, a centre back and a midfielder, as well as Debuchy. I actually though we would win, out of form Norwich next we could win, Reading at home a win and Villa would are as bad as QPR could win, 4 in a row, but my best hope is a back to back, half of the playersdont

  • 657 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:03 PM

I think when I saw Ameobi ahead of Cisse up front it was not a good sign.

Tiote is in bad form. We are missing HBA badly there is 0 creativity.
I think this manager is not good for us. I feel he is not a bad manager but not for us. What we need is a discipline manager. Somebody like Lother Matthaus.

A German manager…make the team work like a team. Pardew has basically imploded ever since we got a bad run.

I think 60% of the blame is Ashley fro not strengthening this squad in the perfect time last season.

Santon today has disappointed me hugely. Its one having debuchy but what Santon did today was piss away 2 points. all he had to do was square the ball.

Shola is a sub nothing more. Guti should also not play for us he is slow and a frustration. To me Colo has completely lost form.

Its very obvious Willo should he shipped, so does simmo, Colo needs to be thrashed. Tiote dropped for a few games.

If we dont get 2 quality CBs I think we will get relegated.

  • 664 GeordieDan // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:04 PM

On this occasion I have to agree that Pardew’s tactics were absolutely shocking tonight.

Cisse should have played central and those ridiculous subs at the end meaning our entire team structure changed completely was madness-very worrying.

  • 665 Klam3r // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:04 PM

Pardew have lost it. I will not back him one more minute before he learns from his mistakes. The guy is a poor manager, and clearly can’t man manage the squad. So many so called top players are underperforming, and that’s not the players fault.

Starting Cisse on the wing… What a disgrace! He should be in the box all the time. The man is a world class poacher, and Pardew uses him as a winger? Pathetic! Got a poacher goal today, probably used as a winger next match too.

Pardew out! I’ll gladly pay £1.000 out of my own pockets to get rid of him. And yes… even with Ashley and Lameass as owner/director i think we can do way better than pardew as coach.

Fellani dived and got FK which went in.

Santon worse display this season and a very greedy player. Perch can’t play RB to save his life Williamson was bull as usual. Colo what is happening to you? Tiote to many fouls committed another yellow loses the ball and produced some shocking passes obertan was quite again but when on the ball he looked a threat as did marveaux but didn’t get the ball as much as he did against arsenal due to a poor defence Anita looks to set up the attacks but couldn’t happen when ameobi was playing CM he was shocking shot when he saw the goal and slowed down attacks only good at bringing other players on to the attack but that didn’t work neither. Cisse wanted much more commited stupid fouls and should of scored more bigi didn’t see much of him made a stupid decision to shoot at the wrong time and it was abysmal sammy was Great at times making some good runs but always does to much maybe to the fact he had no support. Krul was class but should of done better with babes free kick. Ranger will never be a premier league and can never see him scoring in a toon shirt.

    Marveaux, Anita and Sammi’s cameo.

    Negatives.

With someone as slow as Willo, you have to play a sweeper

Why was Ameobi left on so long while we had a second half ”hoof fest” and got over-run in midfield again

Why the hell didn’t Santon square it for a Cisse tap in?

Why does Pardew always do the opposite of what you want him to do?

At West Ham Pardew had the record of the worst losing streak in their history. I think he’s just broken that record here.

I told people Pardew will only take us one way and for those who keep saying we are too good to go down need a reality check. I think Pardew is getting all out of excuses and more worryingly doesn’t seem to have the desire any more.

RIGHT. We now have a week and a half until the next Premier League game. That is long enough to get Debuchy in sync and starting, get Tayls and Cabs up to speed, and work on bringing 1 or 2 in. We have an easier streak coming up, where we can rack up some points and get our heads screwed on again. Calm down fella’s, now is not the time for fear, that comes later.

Unbelieveable. Can the people who supported Pardew please now put their hands up and say ” I was wrong” . I for one thought he was a good manager ( last season ) but he is truly awful. And incidentally I have been telling you mugs that Santon cant defend since he arrived and he is showing that at least i know how to spot a player, unlike a manager. I was hoodwinked. Pardew was chosen WITHOUT INTERVIEW BECAUSE HE IS A GAMBLING CLIENT OF MA’s CASINO. Shocker. I feel sorry for all the quality players he has duped with his slick cockneye rubbish – eg Anita and Cabaye. His substitutons were inept and he has tactically NO IDEA. Applause to Catchy and Toonbano for being so correct. Ibiza mate, time to own up, like me.

  • 685 Tsunki // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:13 PM

When the officiating is as poor and biased as that you need to make your own luck. Doesnt help having mackems and scousers trying to get tiote sent off from the studio after he is being pulled around waltz style by anichebe. And the ‘foul’ on Fellaini which made his non-contact leg fold was pathetic. It just goes to show when things go bad, everything rolls away from you.

BUT – The second half was tripe. Obertan going off played into Anichebe coming on, Santon was at fault for their winner simple and straightforward, and he is being stretched now to breaking point. The right hand side was so bad I almost cried for Simpson to be dragged on. The hoofing upfield came right back into our game, but with shola upfront thats all I could see happening. Although theres a lot of bleating about cisse being wide I cant see what else could be done with that team. It is not a full PL team, and the bench was virtually academy. Pardew cant be blamed for not being able to make such a weak side play well. We have a very poor thin squad with almost different personnel each week and only returning first teamers will help us. roll on feb.

  • 686 nufc debo // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:14 PM

Our bench is shockingly understrength and it showed this evening. Shola upfront was a mistake did feck all except foul, obertan f or bigi was a mistake he seems to know whats to do in the final 3rd now! Anyhow wr can all come on here and bitch and moan but we need to support the lads. The second half of this season will be better than the first

I truly believe we should cash in on tiote as he is becoming a true liability, he loses possesion all the time and is constantly giving free kicks away with his stupidity. He cant stick to his position and looks like a rabbit in the headlights when anyone with a bit pace runs at him.
We are desperately short on confidence and we must start to turn the corner or we will go down. Using injuries as a excuse is getting thin now, only hba and cabs really missing tnite from our strongest 11, maybe taylor too.

  • 693 Newcastle for alltid // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:19 PM

This is just embarassing. I think our attacking play is ok, nothing more. Why we started Shola instead of Cissè as the lone striker is beyond me, and must feel like a severe punch in the face for Cissè. Don’t get me wrong, I like Shola as an impact sub, and he seems to handle the Europa League level well. As a starter in PL, he just doesn’t cut it. He’s strong, comitted, but just lacks the smartness and skill needed. He gets on to a lot of flicks, but they mostly seem to slip of his head, going wayward. Other than that, I think we create enough offensively when we’re allowed to go forward. With Cabaye and Ben Arfa and (hopefully) a new winger/pacey striker, we should be able to score goals.

Defensively is where we struggle, and for me, it starts in the midfield where Tiote, as aggressive and composed as he is, is too sloppy and misplaced. He would be best if he could just lay deep and protect the back four having a more “fixed” position as an anchor. Now he’s too often overrun and overplayed higher up the pitch.

The defense itself is just not good enough at the moment. With Debuchy in mind, I won’t say too much about Perch since he’s not out first choice RB, but he really struggles with both his positioning and passing. He is better in a CM role in tough, physical matches. Coloccini is a good player, but seems to be affected by the poor players around him. Give him a good CB partner, and he’ll be rock solid, we’ve seen it before. Williamson, as I’ve said a thousand times before, is utter useless. He plays in a league which is 1-2 times his level. He looks nervous everytime he gets the ball, he’s hopeless with the ball, he’s sh1t passing the ball. He’s just completely out of his depth as a player. I also want to critisize Santon, as he’s far too poor defending. He might be a bright spark offensively at times, but his tackles and clearances are far from what to expect by a PL defender. He fits a team playing a back three better, where he can occupy a wingback IMO. I say sell him,

Pardew was blatantly left in a position by Ba where he thought that since he’s been having Cisse practice for weeks as a right-hand forward (for which I have no idea) he should leave him there and just replace like for like (yeah right)with Shola filling in.

    Very poor decision.

Remy in, Cisse central. Simple as that.

  • 701 Munster Mag // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:36 PM

Tsunki, if you think that is a weak team you simply have no idea about football. Everton are good, but our useless manager cant get a team with Marv, Colo, Krul, Anita, Cisse to compete and that is the issue. I would gladly sacrifice any more signings to have that useless manager paid off.

  • 702 Munster Mag // Jan 2, 2013 at 10:39 PM

Geordie Dan, you scream idiots at us because we want a better manager thatn this guy. That takes some arrogance. There are better managers out there, many employed. Believe me, we can do miles better than this. Tonite I officially lost it with Pardew- I have supported him since he came here. I would honestly rather pay him off that sign players if thats what it takes. We have enough good players to stay up. And then start next season with a proper manager who suits these players.

  • 703 ITUNDERASHELL // Jan 3, 2013 at 12:02 AM

The damage was done by Ashley when he saw fit to withold investment last summer, hence the bewilderment of many of our team, including Ba.
Pardew has had to juggle with disenchanted players and a small squad, he has also lost control of team affairs judging by his team formation today.
I always thought Pardew knew (judging by the continentals brought into our team) he would eventually adopt a continental style of football and play 4-3-3 with all players comfortable on the ball.
I now believe Pardew has lost sight of this vision although his scouts are trying to builda to the blueprint originally set them.
I feel sorry for Pardew because I think he bought into that vision but was left in a position where players were questioning the project and some losing faith and therefore a divided playing staff.
Ba hasn’t helped by deciding to jump ship, but I doubt he will have sleepless nights over it.
Pardew needed to make a decision and deadline for Ba to sign a new contract or he would be out of the team, period and Shola should have been allowed to play for Nigeria with replacements genuinely lined up to strenghten the team.
The real players can see the club is showing lack of ambition and want to move quickly to a continental style of football as mentioed above and do not want to be part of a club moving backwards as you always do if not improving.
Ashley has got a battle on his hands now, you may have lost your manager due failing to invest and have left your manager isolated with frustrated players demanding continental development.
Pardew now may be a good time to grow some ba++s and tell your boss to put up or I resign, at least you will retain your dignity.

    2. Danny Simpson. Start house hunting at places like Reading, Aston Villa or Stoke, because just like ‘England’s’ Danny Guthrie, you seem to think you are a Premier League footballer. Which you clearly are not.
    3. Mike Williamson. As above, but at Hull, Coventry or Wolves.
    5. Shola Ameobi. You are built like a super heavyweight boxer, start using your physical presence to win the ball, not commit endless fouls all over the pitch because you are so slow and clumsy.
    6. Alan Pardew. Square pegs fit much better in square holes you retard. if you want a winger, go and buy one, Cisse is a striker, and can only score from a wing position once in a lifetime, and we have already seen it at Stamford Bridge.
    7. Demba Ba. Good luck on your move, and welcome to the Sebastian Bassong / Michael Owen / Silvain Distin club of greedy mercenary disloyal bstards. I hope you break your knee in your first game.

    Its easy this coaching lark………
