Chelsea have announced they have signed striker Demba Ba from Newcastle United on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Demba Ba – signs for Chelsea
The 27-year-old has scored 13 league goals for the Magpies this season and in 58 games in all competitions he scored 29 goals – one goal per every two games.
We thank Demba Ba for his short 18 months at the club, where he helped us to 5th place in the league table last season, and he has scored 13 of our 27 league goals this season.
We expected the announcement before 12 noon today so he can play for Chelsea at Southampton tomorrow in the FA Cup 3rd round tie.
Ba will wear the number 29 shirt and could make his first return to St. James’ Park on Saturday, 2nd February in our home game with the Blues.
That should be interesting.
Comments welcome.

Comment #4Glad the sideshow is over. Hopefully we can sort out our business in the next couple of weeks and get some players in. At least he left quickly we should thank him for that. He could have easily held out hoping for a better deal and left us in the lurch at the last minute.

Comment #6Was a great player for us, but I’m glad the saga is finally over and we can now move on. Thin we need a center half more than a striker as Cisse will flourish back in his intended position

Comment #9I hope we get a CB before a striker, and a proper striker/CF before we try to sign some overpriced 27 year old winger/striker hybrid (no offense to remy) we dont need.
Once we have a CB
we cant be looking for someone to play out wide left…we have marv, fergy and obertan.
FFS we need a proper CF for IF/WHEN cisse is injured – or just plain cannot score…(its possible folks!) Im not less comfy with ameobi, ranger, campbell and xisco – than I am with Marv, Fergy, HBA, Sammy and Obertan – MUCH MUCH less comfy.
To me this means we need to sign a humble young cheap CF with good potential for bench/cup cover/reserves if need be. ANYONE…must be more likely to score than xisco, ranger, ameobi or the unproven campbell

Comment #11I never took to Ba, and I’m really not upset he’s gone. He was always a mercenary so no bitterness there from me.
Now if we lose Ben Arfa due to us not being ambitious enough I don’t think I could take that.

Comment #16Lets not dwell on a player who is only in it for the money. Good luck to him. Money does not bring a person integrity, ethics or class. Three things Ba and his advisors clearly lack in abunance.
In one short interveiw Debuchay has shown what I call real class in his approach to playing for our great football club. Lets hope this rubs off on all our team.

Comment #17Surely we won’t sign Graham, was decent last season but now the Swans have started playing slightly different shape up top he’s been deemed surplus due to not being technical enough for Laudrup.
If that’s the case for Swansea he’s not goo enough for us. Add that to the fact he’s solely a striker and doesn’t play left or right we’d have the same issue. Unless he was signing for back up he just wouldn’t be worth it.

According to RMC, #QPR are no longer trying to steal #Remy away from going to #Newcastle. They have dropped out of the race!

Comment #19Is it too much to expect that some “arrangement” has been put in place that ensures Ba will be “Injured / Ill / Indisposed! – when it comes to the SJP fixture on the 2nd February??

Comment #24Great news……the circus has left SJP and we can now concentrate on the team and not 1 player!
Debuchy is gr8 signing…..will make a huge difference and shore up the defensive line/shape – Simpson has not been good this season and wants to go to Ldn….let him go then.
Moving fwds lets land the players we need! HWTL

Debuchy Saylor colo santon
Cabaye tiote Anita
Marveaux cisse squidward
(I’m not sure when cabaye and Taylor will be available)
That should be enough to get 10 points from the next 4 games, which would probably send us up to around 10th?
Here’s hoping.

Comment #27I respect him for his goals and contribution to this club. There was no doubt that he gave his best during his time here and helped us to achieve 5th place last season. As he stated that this will benefit both himself and the club, Cisse will have the chance to shine. Good luck to Ba.

Comment #31i think we need somebody who can play lw and striker/withdrawn striker. marveaux looks decent but mostly through the middle where he has more options, less good on the left but i wouldn’t mind too much if he was our top option there.
