Chelsea have announced they have signed striker Demba Ba from Newcastle United on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Demba Ba – signs for Chelsea
The 27-year-old has scored 13 league goals for the Magpies this season and in 58 games in all competitions he scored 29 goals – one goal per every two games.
We thank Demba Ba for his short 18 months at the club, where he helped us to 5th place in the league table last season, and he has scored 13 of our 27 league goals this season.
We expected the announcement before 12 noon today so he can play for Chelsea at Southampton tomorrow in the FA Cup 3rd round tie.
Ba will wear the number 29 shirt and could make his first return to St. James’ Park on Saturday, 2nd February in our home game with the Blues.
That should be interesting.
Comments welcome.

Comment #50Good luck to him. I do hope he doesn’t get a bad reception when he returns. If you were in his shoes and got offered double the money to play for the European Champions, you think you’d turn it down?? You’d be an idiot not to take it!

Comment #51The ba sale probably just covered debuchey signing the two best players I think we could get at CB and ST is mbwia and doumbia from cska but that would cost 18-20 mil think we will spend 10-12 to be honest here’s hoping

Agreed, however….
You missed out the bit where he professed on HIS twitter account to being totally happy at Newcastle, didnt want to move and was not money orientated!!
Then why didnt he sign a New IMPROVED contract.
Dont mind him having MORE ambition than the owner, but either shut the fek up or tell the truth!

Comment #53Not having this that Ba hasn’t any class or lacks integrity. His advisors are a different matter. During all the speculation he has kept performing. Some might say that he was playing for himself and his own end, show me a striker who isn’t selfish and I’ll show you one who doesn’t score. Personally I think he is replaceable. He has down well for us but he isn’t a work beater.

Comment #54Why’s all the complaining about the money for? Regardless of what we got for him we would of seem very limited amount of it invested in the squad.
We had him he scored goals kept us in the league and took us to 5th last season. Done more than a lot of strikers who have been with us and left for less plus he went to the champions of Europe who challenge for the title/cups every year
Head up and move on its now time to see Ashley (whose been accepted so readily) to invest and do us some good

Comment #55For all you posters slagging BA, without his goals this season we would be bottom 3 if we stay up then his goals will be the reason why. It`s quite pathetic the comments on here, you act like immature boys who are spitting the dummy because some girl has left them for a new bf with more money.

Comment #57Spoof – dunno if you are still here mate but if you want to look for mistakes from defenders and GK’s then you will have a full time job on your hands. Th bigger picture is what is happening to the entire unit that drags players into unfamiliar areas, and attempting to cover places where others should be.
In Jonas’ case I was right when I said that by design he is given a large area left and rear of midfield to cover Santon excessive runs and lack of tracking. Consequently those looking at Jonas the winger were frustrated at him ‘disappearing’ in games, and ridiculing his fabled workrate. I said that whoever replaced him (calls for marveaux to start instead) would either have to be ‘ruined’ in the same way or there would be problems down the left side. Cue Obertan coming in and while his tracking was not bad the other day, Jonas he is not, therefore Santon has been cruelly exposed. We now had TWO FB’s who could not cover their positions properly, cue Willo and now Colo as the scapegoats for a badly stretched defence. If you consider putting Perch in for Colo, what do you think would happen then? Do you think Colo has been as culpable for goals leaked as Santon? Please. Having barely-functioning FB’s means the CB’s are under the cosh for crosses all the time, the best they can do is either wait for them to rain in or go out and run the winger to the byline themselves, hoping a DM like Perch/Tiote/Anita will drop into the centre for cover. They chose the former, hence we have conceded the most goals from headers in the PL. Thats because of sheer volume mate, not because of aerial ineptitude. Law of averages.
A world class defender in a crap defence will look as crap as his buddies.

Comment #60Wish all the best to Demba Ba, the lad is in a funny position regards robustness of his knee and obviously has got a great contract, No hard feelings here, just hope that Cisse can now be played through the middle like he should have been played all season.
Pleased Ba has finally gone.
Over the moon with Debuchy, cried out for a decent RB since we got promoted, bye bye Simpleson, enjoy the fizzy pop leagues.

Comment #63gaz44 @29. Ref Remy I hope we get him. Last year before he was injured people were saying his value was £20million. So with his lapse in form, and value, he probably fits into the Toons -purchasing policy. So typical type of Toon purchase bit of a gamble. bit of a car theme on here at the moment -following that recently read one French coach described Remy as well tuned as an F1 car.

Comment #66Really sad to see Ba leave 🙁 . But bringing in dreamboat 2 has softened the blow a bit :). All the best to Demba as he has done right by me and his goals have helped us get a lot of points. I hope he does well at Chelsea, just not for two games a year against us 🙂

Comment #67Goals per pound, Ba was decent value. And he is typical of the game. His agents dont come out of this well though but thats the business so suck it up. We have a no9 anyway, and hopefully the backup is being lined up now. I am confident that there is stuff being negotiated right now, every bit as tangible as Debuchy (where the news was politically leaked ages ago imo).
Whatever happens transfer wise, February will be a different month again on the field.
Anyone want to vote now on this choice –
Relegation or Lose the derby? Ha ha ha.

Comment #70Just read his interview on the Chelsea site. Nice tip of the hat to your former club and its supporters there Demba. Oh, that’s right, you didn’t. Just basically put both us and West Ham down as not being good enough for you.
I wonder in the coming days if he even mentions the fans and club who gave him a brilliant platform.

Comment #80Demba Ba has no emotional ties to any club, he plays for himself…its business….and considering we got him on a free we cannot complain……..my only disappointment is that we put Ba is the shop window to the detriment of Cisse and the team as a whole. I think Cisse is a better out and out striker so I thank you Ba for your services and wish you well…..your a mercenary and you’ve done ya job….now be gone!
