There is news today that Newcastle are close to putting in an offer for 26 year-old French international striker Loic Remy (he turned 26 on Wednesday), and that goes with the news yesterday that Newcastle had entered into discussions for the former Lyon and Nice striker, who Newcastle have tracked since 2008.
Loic Remy – Newcastle in negotiations for this player
The news is being reported by French radio station RMC, and they are saying that Newcastle will put in a bid for the Marseilles man soon.
While Marseilles manager Elie Baup and Sporting Director Jose Anigo are hoping to keep Remy in France through the end of the season, , President Vincent Labrune is thought to be in favor of selling the striker for around £10M.
Remy is also wanted by London clubs QPR and Tottenham, and while Spurs would be a threat if they were keen on the striker, we don’t think QPR, with the club being bottom of the league with 13 points, and playing at a stadium of 16,000 would hardly seem a draw compared to playing in front of 52,000 screaming Geordies at Newcastle.
Newcastle may not be able to compete with the top six clubs in England right now – but we can compete with all the rest – that’s for sure.
Demba Ba leaving like he did will be a big blow to Newcastle, because ti takes time for new players coming into a club, and get used to their style of playing, and even good players like Kevin Nolan have found that a move in January is difficult.
But on the other hand there’s the example of Papiss Cisse who was just magnificent last year when he arrived.
Newcastle will hope that Papiss can step up to the player and if we can get Debuchy, Remy and a top center-back though the door in January Newcastle will have done well.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed and hoping but the early acquisition of Loic Remy would lift the spirits of Newcastle supporters everywhere – and that’s what we need right now. 🙁
What do you think?

Comment #1From BBC:
The Journal reports that Newcastle could miss out on a centre-back in the January transfer window after manager Alan Pardew admitted a replacement for striker Demba Ba has become the sole focus of his transfer policy.

Comment #5Morning Jesper. I am well thankyou. How are you?
On Lamine Koné I’ve seen him play several times. A tall, 6’3? centre half who has represented France at u17, u18, u19 and u20 levels. A rough diamond to say the least. He is a big old until for a young lad. 23-24 from memory, don’t think he ha been brought on properly by his club as is at the age now where he should be pushing the senior side. He is in and out of the L’Orient side. My view is he could be picked up very cheaply (£1-2mil) and developed. I like the lad, he works hard but isn’t being developed how he should. I’ve not heard a link to Newcastle with him but that’s not to say there isn’t one.
Romain Allessandrini is a class act. Plays wide left (naturally left footed) or being a striker, or wide of a front 3 (!!) Goal scoring, creative and ‘most importantly’ a grounded and down to earth player. Not favoured by the French national team (but we all know players like Ribery etc are selected regardless of form) but had gotta be given his shot soon! Valued at £3.5mil is very much value for money!!

Comment #7Torq…I well thank you 🙂
…with money being tight and all that I thought we might as well look at getting our money’s worth.
Lamine Koné has scored 3 goals so far this season and he’s a CB – if he’s that cheap I’ll make the phone call to Lorient 😉 lol
Romain Alessandrini…what can I say I would really like that player (especially for that price)
People say bargains cannot be found 😀

Comment #15I believe that we will get Remy and Douglas in this window, which will cost around about £12m, but I would expect that Pardew has been told that he must recoup this outlay in the summer, so we would have to sacrifice either Ben Arfa, Tiote or Cabaye just to finance our survival for this season

Comment #16think we all need to stay level headed .. I think Pardew needs to play a full team against brighton and get them on winning ways .. then instill the confidence factor and we’ll be ok .. looking forward to competition at CB and debuchy and cabaye .. much better team already..

Comment #17if we dont get a striker we can put attacking players behind the lone quality striker. we may get a few goals less but alternatively it might work really well too.
But…but..but…if we dont buy a CB this Jan, we will remain low in confidence in the back, we will continue to leak goals, and we will surely be doomed.
no point bringing in remy to play with a shaky defence…bring kuqi if we dont have money, but please a good CB is a must this January.

Comment #19hopefully we get him on tyneside koz we desperately in need of a striker. Shola isnt 1 player i wld lyk he is not quality so remy is needed lyk now. As for i wldnt be lukn fo a cb tho we nid 1 our main concern is the striker we are quite shallow in tht department. As for a cb i wil be lukn @ sum1 like sahko.

Comment #20I am a little bit concerned again this morning.
We have shown we can score and have a few ‘decent’ options if we play 4-3-3.
We have shown we can’t defend well with 1 CB out injured and the others showing fatigue or suspended through picking up cards – so how can we not urgently need a CB ? Steven Taylors injury record speaks for itself through no fault of his own – i would almost out my house on him or 1 of the other 2 getting injured again before the end of the season – why take that chance in such a perilous situation *sighs*
I hope this is all brinksmanship with the correct action of getting a CB ‘over the line’ this time!

Comment #24Seems we’re linked with norwegian CB Forren from Molde where Solskjaer is manager.
It was reported he was going to Fulham, but norwegian press is writing that it is no longer the case, as Fulham is not deemed “big enough”.
Then proceeds to link him with us…
He’ll only cost about 2,5 mill.

Comment #25I know we have a number of injuries but surely from the amount of goals that we have conceded recently, the proof is there that we need to bolster the defence? At minimum we need a new CB, were not exaclty known for having had good defences in the past with the likes of Boumsong, Bramble, Cacapa to name a few but now is the time to change that, buy a CB now and start keeping clean sheets because if we dont bring in a striker and we end up in a scrap then the goals we concede are whats going to take us down. Also seen the article early this morning about Collo wanting out? Its sounds like a load of tosh tbh, if as the article states hes been looking for a nice way of leaving the club for some time then surely he wouldnt have signed the new contract when Krul did, he would have turned it down and left the club when he previous deal ended? Doesnt have any truth IMO.

I agree, but don’t you know…according to Percy….we have Taylor back in training….our savior supposedly
What Percy doesn’t seem to notice, is that Saylor is a sick note, hasn’t been properly fit for two seasons now, or maybe Remi Street can play, Lord knows he is mature, and fully capable of jumping into a relegation fight

Im living out in France at the moment and went to a Rennes game a month ago and Alessandrini was the stand out player by a country mile. Great flair and has a really good shot on him.
He’s starting to get hyped up by French TV now so I don’t think it will be long before he makes the national team. Its worth remembering that this is his first season in Ligue 1 though; he was playing in the same league as Amalfitano last season.
I think he would fit in well with our team, as he tends to drift infield when attacking. Rennes struggled to exploit this when I saw them as they didn’t have an attack minded full back. With an attack minded full back, he would give the option of going wide, taking it infield or having the FB on the overlap. Also puts in a shift tracking back.
He’s a quality player, would love it if he came to the club. And his hair looks like it was crafted by gods.

tiote can go for me.
In theory we have cisse, shola, ranger, campbell and at a stretch obertan as strikers.
I think we desperately need a CH (alderwield / sakho / m’biwa – take your pick) before another striker.

Comment #29sweendog, Douglas does have a hot head reputation, but so did Ben Arfa, and like Ben Arfa the older and more mature he gets the better he appears to control it, he is a 6ft4″ colossus of a man, thats what we need, neither Willo nor Colo are good enough, get Douglas and hope that Saylor gets some good luck injury wise and I feel we would be ok

Comment #30Indian give your head a shake man you have never been to a match in your life.
Ed your obviously out of touch with who we can attract London is a big draw for many foreigners and so is how much a club will pay. ask Joey Barton.
How many other clubs have signed players in this window yet. Chelsea and Arsenal and that is it.

I think Tiote needs a break he’s lost his way a bit ..still a quality player and he didn’t jump ship to Chelsea when he had the chance so I have respect for him .. shame the pressure is getting to him .. some of his challenges against everton wouldn’t go amiss in WWE though .. maybe ACON is what he needs

Comment #34£10m? Yes please. Exactly the type of player we tried to make Ba into last season, and Cisse this. A forward who plays from the wing, something we need. Blistering pace, a little bit of skill, and fairly good in the air. Scored a fair few with his head.

Comment #36one of the main reasons for us shipping goals us playing cisse in right midfield. He can’t gold the ball up particularly well. we find it difficult to play out of defence because of that. it’s mind of like playing with a McCann short in the middle.
