Newcastle are busy negotiating with for Marseilles striker Loic Remy, and Newcastle also want to bring in a center-back this month to further strengthen the defense, after French International Mathieu Debuchy was finally signed for €7M yesterday.
Douglas – contract runs out in June
FC Twente center-back Douglas was a top target in the summer, and his contract runs out this summer, so he would be available for £3M at most in January, but we don’t know if he’s still a top choice at Newcastle.
You’ve always got to take whatever an agent says about their clients with a pinch of salt, and today his agent Marcos Paulo Ribeiro said this to Voetbal Primeur:
“To date we have had no contact with Inter and as far as we know there is no question of a bid” “The same goes for Reading. Newcastle? We spoke to them in the summer, but now there are no negotiations.
“Three clubs from the Bundesliga want him, we even rejected an official proposal. Now we wait and Douglas is focusing on FC Twente as he will always be fully committed to the team.”
Douglas could always stay on at Twente and become a free agent in the summer, but the 6’4″ Brazilian would certainly help strengthen the Newcastle squad, but it’s hard to know if he’s still in favor at Newcastle.
There are some questions about his character, but we’d still love to see this guy join Newcastle this month.
What do you think?

Comment #5Wish people would stop posting “First”.
Really never been a fan of Douglas. Would rather we go for Alderweild or Lescott on a loan.

Comment #7Douglas, in my opinion, is looking like the likely option
How could Mashley refuse 3m for a centerback that is rated well, albeit has a bad side.
If we sign Remy, we will probably have peanuts left for buying a centerback

Comment #9Let’s see if the 8m Netherlands player show up. if he does, there may not be any money left for Remy and Douglas.

Comment #10Lately my frustration during matches has been through the roof and a lot of that has to do with Tiote and how he gives away dumb free kicks on the edge of the box. He does it at least twice a game.
I’d be in favour of selling him for 10-15M (If we can get that much) and buying Sissoko and a quality CB with that money.

That seems to be the case.
Also the man has a wife and three kids, i imagine there are some arrangements to be made and kisses and hugs to be had.
They won’t be moving at the same time as him according to his interview.

Comment #203m sounds very reasonable. Either buy him or get Lescott on loan with an option to buy in the summer? Lescotts valued at 8m in January but come the summer that’ll drop to 5-6m, he’s experienced, stays pretty injury free and will give a good account of himself for the next few years while Good and Streete come through the ranks.
