Newcastle After French Wonder Kid

There is some potentially good news in the French Daily L’Equipe today, that Newcastle United are after top young French forward Florian Thauvin from Ligue One side Bastia.

florian thauvin

Florian Thauvin – top young French attacking midfielder

The 20 year old has played for the French U18, U19 and U20 sides, and has been watched by Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr this season, and with a Newcastle delegation said to be in France this weekend, maybe the Board is trying to secure the services of one of the best young players in France at the moment.

Thauvin joined Bastia from Grenoble back in 2011 and so far he has played 23 times for his current club with a couple of goals.

He plays as an attacking midfielder and the 5’10” youngster could be a star of the future.

We certainly hope this news is true, because Newcastle need to show their ambition in January,  and if we bring in some good players it will only help us to retain our best players  this summer – always assuming we do not get relegated of course.

Thauvin, who was born in Orleans,  is far from the finished article, but these are the kinds of signings Newcastle must make, if we are to end up with players valued at say £25M in the future.

And have a top side too. 😀

Would be nice to have a better option on the wing, we really only have marveaux and ben arfa that look good enough…

As long as it doesn’t compromise first team signings bring him in. Never know though,
Might turn out to be brilliant and first team material! Just never know with young players.

Great article before this Ed, about Moyes and Sir Bobby.

I’ve always liked Everton. Not so much their fans but certainly the club.

The same as we signed Good or Satka lol. You can’t have double standards! Spurs signed them a few years ago, at a time when they could still have a significant effect on their development. That’s what I would refer too as ‘producing’ young players.

Even experienced pros need time to settle – usually a season.

Throwing kids into a relegation battle in a new country, with a different faster style of play is asking for miracles.

They were comprehensively out played only Anita and Bigi can keep their heads high as far as am concerned. None of the fringe players even looked like taking the chance gifted to them by injuries

8 senior players simply unavailable yesterday mate.
What club buys players in the possible event that they’ll have 8 senior first team players out?
It’s not that we can have 8 Berbatoves waiting in the reserves.

Need experienced players now. However, he would be good in addition to some experienced players but not at the expense of some experienced players.

There seems to be a lot focus (perhaps too much) on French players. I’m wondering whether this is a ruse. Although Debuchy has just joined us he was however identified quite some time ago.

Cisse came from Germany, Anita from Holland and Bigi from Coventry. Perhaps we are looking at players from leagues other than the French league. It makes sense.

We need to get in a striker and a quality centre half. Yesterday’s performance was one of the worst I’ve seen in thirty five years of following Newcastle. Why didn’t he give Campbell ago and what is happening with Street?

Tavs been poor all season, but the team has been so unsettled.

Switching the bulk of the team for Europe and the cups was a mistake.

Better to have a largely unchanged team and only rotate players if they are injured.

Course we couldn’t we didn’t go to win the match team sheet said that but our stars of tomorrow did nothing of note in 90 minutes against a much lower ranked team if they are all so good why did not one of them show anything? Davy has said these kid should be starting in the PL to me before and I was labelled a standard mag scared to play the kids…well they played and I can see why standard mags feel like that.

Sorry note Dummet did show some good signs cant fault him too much

How unique is that at Newcastle, a left footed fullback.

back to the comparison between Moyes and Pardew

Moyes was a young up and coming manager in 2004 , Pardew was brought in for his supposed “experience” in the top flight.

Moyes has done well in purchasing good solid players with no money , Pardew’s signings have all been due to Graham Carr who pulled off the shrewd deals that were celebrated last season ie. Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Tiote

Tds – we do have good young players coming through the trouble is we don’t loan them out to develop, Campbell, streete, abeid, sammi, all need loans till end of season at champ/league 1, biggie n dummett are ready for first team level as back up, Tav even 6month in championship would do him good

Sign these kind of players in the summer after attaining a respectable league position, Im 100% convinced this lad no matter how good he is if he were to come in, he would offer nothing to the first team between now and the end of the season. We need stars of today, not the future.
