Any Newcastle fan will know that since around mid-November, the image of Newcastle United as potentially a team returning to become one of the top clubs in England again has taken a bit of a hit, and couple that with Demba Ba leaving the club last week, and our image has been a little tarnished.
This is Newcastle United
It didn’t help that Demba Ba left us in mid-season for a bigger and richer club, and he has bad mouthed the club once or twice in the last couple of days, and on Boxing Day Alex Ferguson derided Newcastle United by calling us “that wee club from the North East” – although today he’s trying to explain that rather stupid and insulting remark.
And yesterday was really hard to take and at least for me, the last two games have been really been difficult to take, since we thought we could have got something out of the Everton game, and maybe advanced in the FA Cup yesterday – to give our players a much-needed boost.
But no, it was two more defeats and that’s 11 defeats in our last 16 games – but maybe this is where the collapse stops and we can start to turn things around.
While Shola Ameobi and Cheick Tiote are not available for the Norwich City game – it looks like Jonas Gutierrez and Papiss Cisse will be – with an outside chance that Steven Taylor and Yohan Cabaye will also return – and of course we’ll have Mathieu Debuchy in the side,
So a starting eleven for next Saturday at Carrow Road could be something like this:
Krul
Debuchy Coloccini (c) Williamson Santon
Obertan Anita Bigirimna Perch Gutierrez
Cisse
And if Yohan and Steven are available then it could look like this:
Krul
Debuchy Coloccini (c) Taylor (S) Santon
Obertan Anita Cabaye Perch Gutierrez
Cisse
We only show a 4-5-1 formation because we are short of strikers at the moment – and we also should be getting Dan Gosling and the great Ben Arfa back soon too – and we’re not really sure what the status of Ben Arfa is – but the sooner the Frenchman is back – the better.
We think Alan Pardew and the coaches can turn things around as our players return from injury – we hope Alan Pardew and the coaches can turn things around as our players return from injury.
Keep the faith and we hopefully can pull out of this terrible slump, but it’s certainly been terrible and hard to take.
Comments welcome.

Anita over Perch and Marv over Gutti.

I see floppy chops trying to steal our thunder again (sigh). its a case of every possible worst case scenarios happening at once if AP did get sacked/walked away then our fate would be sealed. Yesterday was sadly predictable we need to concentrate on epl then possibly Europa the squad needs a partial rebuild.
Debuchy signed – brilliant then MA has to take short term pain long term gain approach and sign in my opinion 2 first team challenging cbs, 2 forwards and either sissoko or diame to refresh/cover midfield or dare i say it pave the way for a liability to be sold.

When has Ba bad mouthed NUFC? Haven’t seen that
Pains me to see Perch touted as a starter

If Anita and Marvo are dropped then Pardew ain’t knows what he is doing – best two players by a mile last few games

Ed, I just hope you could feel a bit better on this defeat… or the defeats previously. Many of you would not like what I said, but we really need to lose this FA cup game somehow to avoid more games ahead in order to reduce the risk of losing more players. We also need to get out of the Europa too. Our first priority is to keep ourselves in the EPL. With the tiny squad we have, we need to choose our battles to fight more carefully.
However, I will take this back if we can sign 5 to 6 senior players this month.

HullMag6, if the youngsters are ready next year, I think our rebuilding wouldn’t be so desperate. I am hoping to see Bradden Inman, Paul Dummett, Adam Campbell and probably Remie Streete to be part of the plan next year.

Pardew and the board are to blame for our rapid decline. Exactly where we should be and would have been last season if luck and ridiculous Cisse’s goals weren’t on our side.
Pardew for the terrible tactics, football and team selection and MA for his gamble of not buying anyone.
We are still playing some of the most atrocious football in the whole top flight. It aches to just watch us play. Heck, Brighton made a fool of us with their on-the-deck football.
Desperately need atleast 3 signings with no outgoings. Seeing our bench at times is vomit inducing.
9 pizzicatochan // Jan 6, 2013 at 7:27 AM
ilovetoon8788, agree about Pardew’s tactics. He needs to hire a offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator… like how American Football does. However, we really have too many injured players which should be the reason to blame. I will look to MA to see what he would provide now.

Pardew is starting to make some serious errors of judgement going with ameobi against Everton was scandalous just because they had trained like that, if van Persie was injured and got free to play would he drop him and say sorry we have already had training this week! The team he has out at the min have no confidence as he says none of them are good enough and shouldn’t be playing its upto you the manager to make them into good players there young! As for remy one goal this season and injured like Martins was when we got relegated go for aubengmang much better quality by far!
12 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Jan 6, 2013 at 7:30 AM
Its at times like these who you see just who are the real supporters of the club !
Understandably there were some bad reactions yesterday after being dumped out of the Cup again, and i am hurting too!
Saying that, i talked about priorities before the match yesterday morning too, and i believe i said on two different posts that The Premiership is more important to me than amy Cup competition. Taling into account also the team picked, the loss was predictable, lets move on and win against Norwich!
Our back four has been abyssmal in the last few months, but with Debuchy slotted in there it will help us a lot!
However, with Williamson or Perch in that back four we will be in trouble! Because i just don,t have much confidence in them in that position and Williamson has made so many errors lately i think he should be shipped out and sold. But then it would surprise me if anyone would want him!
Cheer up lads and Keep the Faith even if it has taken a knock!

we need at least 3 more players in, maybe more, if we fail to sign then we are relegated… i think Pardew has to stand up to Ashley, maybe attack him in public or something, he’s already lost his job for sure, at least that might make Ashley splash some cash or sell up
16 Grafton83 // Jan 6, 2013 at 7:35 AM
It’s time for Pardew to go. Does anyone want to see anymore hoof ball, I’m so bored of it, watching our crappy tactics and poor match prep fail time and time again is soul destroying.
In terms of replacements can I firstly say no to Di Matteo. In my eyes he’s unproven and therefor too much of a risk.
My preferred choice would be Pep Guardiola, failing that anyone who can teach us a decent style of football.
17 pizzicatochan // Jan 6, 2013 at 7:35 AM
NEWEXPATMAGPIE, if Pardew has the money, I don’t think Williamson should be around, but we don’t have anyone available for that position yet. Maybe the 8m Dutch player unveiled soon (if that ever exists) would help solving the Williamson problem.
For next year, Remie Streete ahead of Williamson.
18 Grafton83 // Jan 6, 2013 at 7:38 AM
And Ed, any chance of a Pardew stay or go poll?
Would be interesting to gauge the fans overall opinion.
19 pizzicatochan // Jan 6, 2013 at 7:41 AM
hdavid23, think Pardew already did stand up in front of MA. Otherwise, the Debuchy deal would never ever happen. I see Pardew is doing something in the background.
Grafton83, yea Pardew’s tactic does not work, and I said it in this post, but I got another point to say… without certain players like Cabaye, we are not capable of not playing long balls unfortunately. Again, the responsibility should fall under MA’s funding for players of covering the senior players. Can’t see myself blaming Pardew that easily.
Again, let’s look at the front. Being a 10+-year-old NUFC fan, I should have my heart attack when we have lost the 12-pt margin and the EPL crown to Man Utd so many years ago.

Have you been asleep? November
I think those who have been watching the football will know it’s been all season, a good win v spuds then down hill ,
Now the 2 up top take some of the blame , as do the players , but most of of the blame lands on Pardews doorstep,
If we bought those one or 2 players extra do u think it would have helped that much ? 2 that he dd but have made an impact , both considered good enough for first team, Anita should be in the first team when everyone is fit, so the team was strengthend , we have a good team and we have played that good team many times this season,
Thinking he can turn it around is just wishful thinking and prolonging the inevadable of Pardew of being kicked out,
In Pardews wisdom for the first 14 games he asked the team to play hoofball , and had the cheek to come out and say we never got our passing game going today, to many times , treating us fans as mugs most of you bought into his crap
A silly question, sending tav to Gateshead for first team football, what’s the kid going to learn at that level, a step up from Sunday league football, Pardew sancsioned that move,
Pardew is taken this club down , get a new guy in now or get someone from within the club to take over ASAP to gave them a chance to turn it Round, 8 games lik shearer got will be madness ,
Confidence needs built up and some new training methods used ,
This did not happen over night, it started last season, but most of you were blinded by the position on the table
23 Grafton83 // Jan 6, 2013 at 7:56 AM
I disagree, I think a good manager would teach the team how to play good football. Its not down to just one player like Cabs. How else do you explain players like Routledge becoming so effective for teams like Swansea. Passing and movement, it’s not rocket science.

29 geordie1892 // Jan 6, 2013 at 8:42 AM
Morning all
First off, totally devastated after yesterday’s result, really thought a good cup run was just what we needed to take our minds off a relegation dog fight.
The thing that concerns me the most about that performance was the total lack of effort and passion shown by the players, it was almost as though pardew set us up to loose!
Despite this I think we need to keep the faith, as hard as it might be at the minute we need to stick with the team and manager. The problem with Newcastle has always been the same we as fans are too demanding, expecting success immediately.
Pardew managed us to 5th last year on a shoestring budget with a team predicted for relegation. 6 months later we are calling for his head!
We have been hammered by injury this year and believe me if we had this luck last season we would have been no where near 5th. We needed investment in the summer, we all knew our squad was too small to challenge domestically and abroad, Pardew was let down, we were let down and we have paid the price.
The whole idea of 11 purple players and the rest of the squad as back up is totally flawed and will never ever work. For me a good squad needs at least 16-18 capable first team players for a season in Europe. Having just 11 is ridiculous. Expecting Pardew to work miracles under these conditions is even more ridiculous.
For me the biggest problem at Newcastle is Mr Derek Llambiase. The man has no footballing background and even less footballing knowledge and he is running the bloody club! He is the reason for our failings this season by not getting targeted players “over the line”.
I could go on and on about the failings this summer but will leave it as we all know we failed on almost every front in getting players in.
Sacking Pardew would be a mistake the football has been garbage yes and it must change soon but we need players in first. If he gets the players in who he wants and it is still terrible then get him out but come on he needs time to turn it round.
Sorry for the long post, not the best written, but need to get that off my chest.
30 Premiership Manager // Jan 6, 2013 at 8:42 AM
There are several fundamental issues at the club.
1st is the on-going sag of injuries, this has plagued us for years and needs to be addressed. Training, physio’s, coaching and preventative measures all need to be looked at.
2nd is the youth/reserve players, are any of the youth and reserve players actually improving? They should be making good progress and if they do not step up to the mark they need to be sold on so that we can replace them with players who have the potential to make the grade.
3rd Defensive training. I would give Obertan the biggest rollocking of his life, he needs to get stuck in, boot players and not be afraid of getting kicked and also applies for several other players in the team. Ryan Taylor is championship player, PL reserve at best but he is not afraid to get stuck in, close players down when he can catch them and make a tackle.
Santon is a brilliant player but has been woeful since Jonas has been out of the team because Jonas covers for him and doesn’t leve him vunerable unlike Obertan. The other thing about Santon is that he should be playing down the wing or in mid field as his passing and distribution are very good and in a more attacking role I think we’d see a far better player, who can attack, defend and retain ball possesion unlike HBA and Obertan who give the ball away far to often.
4th Balance
There is no balance to the team with far to much emphasis on attacking players who give possesion away far to often. HBA despite being a brilliant attacking player leaves us very vunerable when playing 3 upfront.
The mid field have to be able to defend, retain possesion and pass the ball. We have been hopeless this year and have played more hoof ball than any other team in the PL making a mockery of the passing game.
I would rather see Jonas, Anita, Tiote and Cabaye in mid field and grind out a 1-0 win that try to score 3 and concede 4 by playing pretty players who can show a sign of brilliance but leave the team defensively weak.
We do have to work with what we have got but I’d rather see a balanced 4 in midfield and an attacking midfielder such as Marvaux or HBA sitting behind Cisse to add balance and induce a passing game than play hoof ball, give away possesion cheaply and leave the defense vunerable.
5th Width.
Why do we not have any players who can run to the by line and cross the ball. All of our aleged wingers with the exception of ferguson who IMO should be in the team instead of Obertan and Sami all cut inside. It is so easy to close the centre of the park down it’s unreal.
6th Tactics
This is my real worry. I don’t think that Pardue and the coaching staff have any tactical awareness. In many games we have not retained posession the other team have scored and rather than reading the warning signs and putting a midfielder on to stem the flow and control the game before the first goal has been scored AP has waited until it is backs against the wall and then bought another striker or attacking midfielderon in an effort to salvage the game. We have rarely won from behind so the tactics have to be right from the start.
There is nothing wrong with playing 4-5-1 ot 4-2-3-1 if you are playing a superior team away from home or even at home for that matter if that is what it takes to retain possesion and grind out a result.
7th the Board
It’s about time they commited to the club and gave Pardew £20 and said it’s your toy go and fix it. If he fails then there is no where else to go except down the road. Give him the money and keep us up
Rant over

Last season I backed the Toon to be top 4, when we made the signings like Cabaye (but before Barton, etc left). At times we were lucky, but other times we played half decent football. We went close!
This season at the end of the transfer window I backed us to be relegated, because we did not improve the squad and there seemed to be discontent in the squad.
And we have struggled at times this season, but agree with Ed that football wise ( not defensively) we have improved in the Prem recently.
This makes this January window, probably one of the most important windows in our recent history.
So we have to get back to what we do best, supporting the club.
We can’t get rid of Pardew now, so we have to support him. BTW I was there yesterday and it was painful.
There were some positives yesterday, Elliot did well, Anita and Marveaux showed us that they have class. Dummett improved and impressed me when coming on, after an initial mistake. Tavs could be a decent player one day.
So lets hope we do get the Transfers we want. But I am not sure I agree with some of the proposals on here. Of course we need a central defender and a striker, but when HBA, Marvs and Cabaye are missing we have no spark. There is value out there, Lestienne from Club Brugges would be the first I would look at, he is 20 and has so much potential for relatively little money. We also need a Central midfielder to cover or work with Tiote.
I know Ashley made a mistake with the lack of signings in the summer and he should make up for it now. But you can’t blame him for looking at value and I hope we as a club get it right.

Yea pardew pisses me off with certain things like how he played cisse wide, that fact he things jonas is better than marveux, how he played 442 most the season
We need players signed this week n he has 2 games to save his job bcoz if he don’t beat Norwich n reading with new signing then he has to go, seriously ppl asking for di canio makes me laugh we may aswell hav ronnie Moore at least his team is top of the league

Not sure about Martinez…
Wigan seem to perform about how they should under him. Then people were saying Martin Jol would be superior and look how Fulham are playing..
Pardew’s accomplished more than Martinez. Besides, Roberto tends to dislike the notion of the owner having too much influence on the club in any way. Ashley’s tight pockets would be an issue for him

for me ed, I’d put Williamson on the side with debuchy, simply because he’s a lot better defensively than santon and Williamson imo is our weak link this season. as for people drowning the message boards about AP’ s tactics and the long ball situation, as a life long fan my record box is full of memorable wins which I watch occasionally, like the 4 all draw to arsenal, anyone claiming pardew can’t ignite a spark under his men need to watch it on YouTube. the 3 nil win against man United, we played an amazing passing game and played them off the pitch, we did all last season. we started this season like that, then the injuries came and imo pardew didn’t trust the reserves to hold the ball up and make those killer passes like cabeye (most of you know the pass I mean) so had little option than to minimise risk and bypass midfield by aiming for the big Ameobi. you have seen that spark from marvaux but when he’s the only one it’s hard.
let’s get behind our team and support them, good things are coming, if I’m wrong I’ll eat my 1996 gk coloured hat signed by Peter Beardsley… but I’ll wash it down with some newcie Brown, because I’ll never lose faith.

The problem with the team is,
1.When a player is on the ball, he cant find any option to pass the ball to, so being close down, players without much technical abilities will have to hoots the ball as far as possible.
If we are playing passing game. Shouldnt there be always be off-the -ball players running around asking for the ball?
What is a passing game when you cant even find anyone to pass?
Whats the COACH doing? Or was the whole batch of players cant play to the expectation which should not be the case.

The answer to all our Problems is NOT, not to sack Pardew!
The trainer is doing his best with the cards he has been dealt !
How many Managers of other clubs have Owners who just do not back them at all ! I mean the time to buy more players was last Summer and this mistake has led us to the Shit-load of problems we now have!
However, about Pardew, it is also true that he makes mistakes occasionally with some strange substitutions in the last few months! But is also facing a lot of pressure, the stress may be getting to him! Hope he does,nt have heart problems a la Kinnear?
The jury is out as far as i am concerned, and i think the last thing we need at the moment is to change the trainer again in Mid-season? Wait until the end of the season and see where we are then!
Like i said earlier, everyone is on here ranting and raving but i still say we will NOT go down, and our short term future will be upwards. After yesterday we have almost very nearly reached rock bottom in comparison to last year!
Ther are plus,s though, Marveaux and Anita to name but two! also Debuchy,s signing is a plus!
Stop the Bitching Lads and back the Club! It needs us now more than ever!

Hooooooray some one on the same wave length as me on the Hall Shepherd era. They had the chance to make this club great 2nd only to Man-ure at the time but blew big style it on greed for themselves by taking millions out of the club.
THE combined families took a of Total £44,817,451
the breakdown of finances in their reign see

We does not have world -class players in every position. But we do have quality players.
We shouldn’t be playing such horrible football.

Catchy, could have sworn you were going to stay under your bridge until Pardew was gone but as your back….
At the start of the season you banged on like a broken record that the quality of the football was poor. We have had injury problems from the start but for the first 10 games we only lost 2 and were in the top 10. Your solution was that Pardew should pick the kids not his favourites. Well injuries have got a lot worse since then.
Saylor out for the last 8 games.
HBA out for 8 of the last 9.
Cabaye out for last 10 games.
Are you starting to see a pattern yet ? add to that injuries to Jonas Simpson and others and Pardew is forced into the changes you had been screaming for. Result from all that is results got worse.
Catchy all of the players you were saying should be playing have been shown to be simply not good enough.
That tells me Pardew knows a hell of a lot more about football than a bitter little man living under a bridge in Norway will ever know.
We all knew ( with a few exceptions) that we had not done enough to improve the squad in the Summer. Our terrible run of results has coincided with the worst injury situation I have seen in many years. CW an extremely hard set of fixtures in Jan That is not Pardews fault. unless he is deliberately injuring his players himself.
Looking forward players will be back this month and new arrivals are on the way. We are not bottom 3 as you predicted and form and results will improve. When they do please retire to your bridge and don`t bother boring us with your multiple names. You do not have enough insight for one poster never mind trying to stretch that to 3.

Mark my words…. By the time feb 1st arrives we’ll all be very disappointed… The lack of transfers during last summers windows gos to show that this owner does not put the clubs progress at the top of his agenda…..
For this reason, regardless of how financially sound we look compared to the shepard days – we will struggle massively to stay a top 6 team on a regular basis…..
The vast majority of us are truly blinded by our faith and loyalty to this club – which is the reason why Ashley bought the club in the first place…. He knew financially, that he would never fail, regardless of how he conducted his business…….

I don’t begrudge any player wanting to perform on a bigger stage and right now Chelsea is the royal Albert hall to our soap box in the street, it’s the uncertainty he left us with, it’s the comments he’s made and fans he’s left without an explanation I don’t like. I’m sure most would agree that even a tweet saying something like I’ve loved my time here but feel I need a new challenge. I believe him about the money he’s only on 5k more than what we offered him, it’s just the way he went about it, no love for the team that took a risk on him, same as Michael Owen

Sean
He did tweet a thanks to his “real fans” as in the ones who didnt want to see him flogged
73 SeanNufc87 // Jan 6, 2013 at 10:02 AM
@Scotty
I disagree mate, I think your selling our fans very short there. we’re all aware MA is a thorn in our collective sides, if never met a fan who didn’t agree. but to say he’s making mugs out of all of us because we still go to the games to consistently be the loudest support home or away, that’s a passion you will struggle to match. we support the team and what it stands for, not the Muppets pulling the strings at the top.
74 davis_toons // Jan 6, 2013 at 10:03 AM
There will be times when players does not like to play for the manager and fake injury, or get a longer rest time in the treatment room.
For this you can ask M.Owen.

I stand corrected, I hadn’t/haven’t seen or heard anything yet. don’t suppose you have the full tweet? I’d like to know what he said. also I was right, I feel a little less bitter for hearing that lol.

1.Williamson is far from the worst centreback we’ve had in recent years. When the defense is poor its too easy to point at the bloke in trouble and say he had a poor game. Its a team game and we’ve been woeful at keeping possession in midfield never mind finding any penetration. So the ball ends up back with Williamson or Simpson and finally a hasty pass back to Krul (or Elliott) who has to hoof it.
2. The worst for positional sense seems to be Santon but nobody ever accuses him for some reason. That may have more to do with his haircut or his Geordie girlfriend than anything else?
3. Tell Llambsarse we never had 11 purples. That’s the problem. We have maybe 6 or 7. In several cases those who are journeyman back-up players are regular starters.
4. Thank fk for Debuchy coming at last.
5. If Siimo is sold this window and we end up with Remy for Ba we will hardly be better off than last month. Mashley needs to recognise that and mobilise his buying people to ensure we get at the very least one new extra player who is a definite improvement to the current first 11 as should have happened in the summer.
6. If we are to retain Cabaye, Cisse, Tiote, Krul and Ben Arfa, lets show some ambition to win something soon. Let us give the Europa a good shot. Mashley needs to know it is what it is ultimately all about. Apart from the payinbg fans, we have some great players with short careers and they need to believe they represent a club worth fighting for.
C’mon the Toon!
