French Striker Now Set On Joining Newcastle?

11:56 pm, Monday, January 7th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 194 Comments

After Demba Ba left Newcastle for better money some four days ago and midway through the season, it’s good to hear the news that Loic Remy, Newcastle’s number one target to replace Ba,  is willing to come to Newcastle, even though he has been offered bigger wages by QPR.

loic remy 987

Loic Remy - keen to join Newcastle?

But the news is that Loic has rejected the advances of QPR manager Harry Redknapp, and the Daily Mirror is reporting today that the Frenchman has set his heart on joining the famous Newcastle United club.

It seems that QPR offered Shaun Wright Philips in a cash plus player deal, but it is not known what the Newcastle offer is to Marseilles, for their top striker.

We have to hope this news is true, and if it is true it would mean that Newcastle have managed to bring in two of their top targets in January in Mathieu Debuchy and Remy, but there are still other players that we could see arrive on Tyneside this month.

This is continuing good news on the transfer front for Newcastle,  and there was even news in the French press yesterday that Loic Remy was already on Tyneside discussing terms, although we don’t know if those reports were true.

But we do know that other Premier League and Bundesliga clubs are still interested in the striker, and that Newcastle officials flew to the south of France over the weekend to steal a mach on the competition and negotiate a deal, which is estimated at £10M, and it seems from the news of the last 24 hours that Remy is now set on joining Newcastle.

That seems an excellent choice to us. :D

I pray and hope this is true as it would be a dream signing

  • 2 Blaydon-Toon // Jan 7, 2013 at 11:58 PM

Get it wrapped up and move on ! QUALITY CB REQUIRED – STILL !

  • 3 Kyo // Jan 7, 2013 at 11:59 PM

He’s not at Tyneside… Marseille tweeted a picture of him training with the squad…

Ed you need to do more research mate.

    repost:

    Mistakes/problems in order of importance:

    1) MA/DL should have consolidated our position in the summer by getting a CB, LB and CF in addition to Anita.
    2) This seasons injuries and suspensions have been unprecedented – but most importantly to our best players, namely collo, cabaye, tiote, and HBA. For those saying Tiote is out of form, yes it’s true, but with a settles midfield it could have been different.
    3) Europa – We can’t handle this competition and the travelling with our paperthin squad – even when everyone is fit. Hugely disruptive.
    4) Pardews tactics – I am not blind to pardews failing but I’m not on the bandwagon with most on here. I think he is actually a decent hard working manager at our level 5th position and got us Europa. But I never understood the Ba played through the middle 90% (which backfired as he scored loads and left) when our 4231 worked so well last season with him on the left. Cisse is not a winger on this I agree completely. But he’s made some decent subs too this season. The juries still out for me, I think he needs more time – too easy a scapegoat.
    5) Luck – from the draw with Sunderland things just never seem to fall for us. Tiote red carded against Sunderland, then a few games later Collo against liverpool. We’ve hit the bat and post numerous times,it just isn’t falling for us.

    The end.

The transfer right now looks unlikely. Don’t get your hopes up lads.

We’ll probably move on to Jeremain Lens from PSV.

  • 7 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:01 AM

    Ed
He went to the european champions who are always in with a shout of winning trophies give it a rest with the money chasing line will ya!
Fair play id he’d gone to QPR but he didn’t he left for the contract we should of offered him

    Read the post
I said dummett maybe but its hard to judge on one half of football but you only have to look at the rave reviews from st mirrens
Fergie has a few assitts but how many in the prem? One? The rest against reserve defences and europa teams we should bd beating easier than we are
Plus comparing him at argueably his best form against jonas at his worst form in his career doesn’t mean he’s a top player it just highlights the fact that if were relying on players of his calibre we desperatly need investment
Its got nothing to do with liking them its the fact that these boys have no right playing prem level yet not one of them should be in the team they should all be on loan and if we continue to use them like this they will never make it
The tactics arguement aside the brighton game was a perfect chance fir some of those lads to stake a claim but the truth is it was one of the most gutless pathetic excuse of a performance ive ever witnessed those lads should of been busting a bollo(k instead they were walking around like a bunch of spoilt arrogant little muppets and personally dont think they deserve to pull on the shirt again this season

    REpost
Beefman – Would have been if it had have been built upon but unfortunately it wasn’t and all the fellas I know who support Liverpool, ManU, etc., told me last year it would be a one- off have been proved right and when I witnessed our dealings in the transfer market versus our competitors then I suspected that they were correct and was left deflated by the lack of ambition shown by MA tbh.

  • 11 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:07 AM

    Blaydon
Lol been to a couple this season but felt bad for me grandad like first game he’s been well enough to get to for six years!
    Poor old get

  • 12 Toonacious T // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:13 AM

Maybe Pardew thought that if Ba was banging in the goals then MA would make him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Was strangely not that bothered or surprised when he left and although you can’t argue with his goal scoring record he did seem to be playing for himself and, given Pardew approach to appeasing him, he did also seem to upset the balance of the team. I am no expert on Remy but I understand he has suffered alot of injuries of recent, is it wise us taking him given our track record with injured and expensive forwards or is this just a recent thing? Has he a good injury record going back through the years?

  • 13 Spuggy // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:14 AM

Given the points I’ve raised I find the abject targeting of pardew outrageous. You may not agree with all his tactics but he’s our manager and he should be supported along with the players.

He also brought us 5th position and European football – oh wait no that was the players and luck.

  • 14 Spuggy // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:16 AM

    Toonacious

I have similar reservations about remy. Is he the man to save us? I guess any player brought in at this stage is gonna be a gamble.

  • 15 Blaydon-Toon // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:17 AM

Well I’m sure that display did nothing to help him on the mend …. So do you think we will bloody invest in a CB or gamble on S Taylor I hope it’s not a gamble ! I would argue a CB is more important than a striker I know we are fcuked if Cisse gets a knock but we will not win too many with the amount of goals we concede

  • 16 Toonacious T // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:26 AM

Spuggy – I read that he hasn’t been a starter for quite a while and we definitely need someone to hit the ground running. Having said that, all the lads on here who claim to be up on their French football seem to think he has bags of talent. I was very surprised last January when MA splashed £9m on Cisse, as it didn’t seem to be in keeping with his thrifty ways, so maybe he will roll the dice on this one as well. As for your feelings about Pardew, I do beleive he has been shafted on the incoming transfers front and for sure we have had no luck this season, especially compared to last, be that with injuries or the rub of the green in games, ref decisions, etc., but some of his selections, formations, sunstitutions and, most worryingly of all, seeming inability to motivate the team, save for the OT game, coupled with his interviews whereby he seems to play the role of apologist for MA (maybe we should have got one more player in the summer) all add up to result in me losing my patience with this manager and believe me I have tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but have to agree, even considering all the factors conspiring against him, he should be getting more out of our admittedly mediocre squad.

  • 17 Toonacious T // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:30 AM

BT – I worry that MA is going to blow the £8m or whatever on a forward and gamble on Saylor and hope he gets Douglas on a free in the summer. Forwards sell more shirts than centre-backs, have you seen many fans with colo’s name on their shirts? LOL

  • 18 Slatymag // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:30 AM

I’m not too botheree about Remy per se, as long as we get someone to give Cisse a hand keeping our goals scored greater than our goals conceded. At the minute it seems that Remy is the be all and end all. Danny Graham and a top notch continetal (cheaper than EPL) defender would serve us just as well. I hope the two man board are not putting all their, or our, eggs in Taylor coming back from injury and a striker/winger who is out of form.

  • 19 Slatymag // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:33 AM

Ha, Toonacious, pretty much just what I was thinking.

  • 20 matty golder // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:33 AM

  • 22 Slatymag // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:40 AM

Hey, who’d have Barton back instead of Tiote? I wonder how many points we’d be on then, not to mention the kick up the arse factor.

  • 23 manxpie // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:41 AM

    nite spread same to you
sacking pardew now in middle of window would be a big mistake tho and after last season (which was our best season in the league since sir bobby) pardew deserve’s to see this season out and i think he’ll turn it round with players returning and new recruits (come on ashley you tight arsed fcker) and people saying last season we ground out results and bla bla bla
for me it was the most exciting season in a long time thats wats footballs about edge of your seat stuff this perfect football that some of you think should happen (some of you over night) ain’t gonna happen look at man city they’ve spent a billion an i think there shite to watch!

  • 24 Toonacious T // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:41 AM

Kyo – You don’t really mean that now…..do you?

Slatymag- If I try and put myself into the mind of MA then I would probably think that way. What are the chances of Saylor lasting the rest of the season without an injury? I probably throw him out on the pitch in a wheelchair just to spare myself another Willo calamity!

  • 25 manxpie // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:43 AM

Judging by your complete incompetence to understand anyones fcuking point im going to assume you’ve had a few sherberts tonight
READ THE FCUKING POST PROPERLY BEFORE SLINGING INSULTS
    You have not a clue
When did i say i like willo and and perch or even obertan?
And yeah getting assitts in the league cup against a 17 yr old and an 18 yr old CB pairing is easier than the prem
You say its fickle i say im just not dumb enough to blindly rate our youngsters higher than they are you could find an 17/18 year old in any championship team that are equal or better than our youth players
And once again im not basing dummetts ability on 45 mind of football ya ignorant tool read the post, his performance plus his very successful loan spell where he won several MOM awards
You over rate fergie to the point where you have to question wheter its just a footballer you like him as!
What is you say? Eh bonny lad!

Ed’s crap articles combined with wiki posts here…. yeah, I mean it.

I’ll stick to credible french journos on twitter. Cya and HTL.

  • 32 Zero // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:52 AM

Haha Wiki info jeeze seriously, after all the pains of ”negoations” of the summer transfer window, people need to just sit back and wait. The likely hood is that he is with the rest of the squad and not even in the UK so wont be signing till tommorrow afternoon at best, we may be lucky and get another signing by the end of the week

  • 33 NUFC_LEAZES END // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:53 AM

    @manxpie
Aye wiki is our source of proof now, it’s more true than garbage that journalists spout about

  • 34 Toonacious T // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:53 AM

Manxpie – LOL. Might get one of those for my bald head next time I’m over. Aye, no doubt that you can get away with winning ugly, unless you are at Real Madrid, but losing ugly is another ball game altogether. Anyway, really hope we don’t go yet another transfer window without buying a CB because personally i WOULD HAVE MADE THAT A PRIORITYfor staying up. If we get both then I will eat humble pie and join the OV crowd as I suppose it is better late than never! HWTL.

  • 35 Slatymag // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:53 AM

Jesus, nevermind Taylor not staying fit, what happens if he is out at the same time as Colo. You know he’s got to get injured/banned sooner or later. What then, Remy and the hot and cold (but brilliant) Ben Arfa to score 5 or 6 each match. A cb is maybe a more pressing priority than replacing Ba. If I were a billionaire owner of a football club I’e consider dipping into next years Sky money and getting both.

  • 36 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:54 AM

    Blaydon
I hope not it would be a huge gamble to rely on staylor for the season like!
I think with the sale of ba a CF has become an equal priority to a CB
Like you said an injury to colo or cisse and were in the brown stuff!

  • 37 manxpie // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:56 AM

    haha tads go on lad!
and kyo where do you go for your usual info on nufc then?
Ed brings us the latest news that he can thats happening about our club so how are they deemed as crap by you?
    wat are you expecting?……….exclusives!!!

  • 38 Toonacious T // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:57 AM

Kyo – fair point….well made. Don’t give up just yet as we need all the help we can get on here, given the recent high density of moronic posts lately. Anyway, this is way past my bedtime for a school night so I am away to dream of a 17th place finish, lol!

  • 39 Jamiemac // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:58 AM

I think Pardew has been a decent manager for us, people on here claiming last year was a fluke are deluded, give him a break. We will be ok this year. The reason we are failing miserably is down to some of our top players hugely under-performing eg. Colo, Tiote, Cabaye (before he was injured) and to some extend Cisse although hopefully now he’s back in the middle he will start banging the goals in. I reckon we will finish 10-12th which wouldn’t be all bad.

  • 40 matty golder // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:00 AM

@leazes I don’t think he’ll be a flop he just needs time on the pitch which he’s not getting at OM when he’s on form like last season he was unstoppable tbh.

  • 41 manxpie // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:02 AM

aye your right toonacious we’ve needed a CB for a looooooooooooong time so i’d be amazed if we didn’t this window
a CB n ST i’d be happy and to be honest it’s certainly not alot to ask for in this window and with every1 fit we’d have a great squad

  • 42 beefman13 // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:03 AM

Cockney Boy, ive been over your post and i am convinced of it. you are maybe the most fickle fan i have came across in all my time on the blogs, your very sensitive and aggressive youngin!

  • 43 NUFC_LEAZES END // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:05 AM

    @matty
Didn’t really see him last season,i’ll have to youtube him, think I’d rather see is paying 10mil for michu or doumbia

  • 44 Robby Bobson // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:09 AM

Its getting to a point where i wouldnt be suprised if it suddenly emerges we are in talks with another striker. Remember the cisse deal…done in 2 days despite him being in africa.

Remy is a gamble abit like hatem, for 10 mill we could get a world class player or a total flop but the ability is there…better than spending 10 mill on an overpriced striker from an english club i suppose.

  • 45 manxpie // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:10 AM

if we had 20 mill available doumbia wud be my first choice but ya wouldn’t get much change wish we got him when he was available last time never get him for 10!

  • 46 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:14 AM

    Beeflover
If youve been over it when did i mention perch? Or willo? Errrrr or obertan?
As for fickle why dont look back at your posts from the start of the season when you were offering ppl outside for questioning pardews ability, now look at you! And ashley! You were so far up his ars3 it was untrue!
Fickle sums you up fella see which the general opinion is going and jump on the bandwagon!
Atleast other posters stick to there guns you change your opinion more than others change underwear!
One minute you like sammi and think obertan should be given a chance the next you hate them! Lol your more confused in your opinion than you are in your feelings for little fergie
Just a quick comment on perch as you seem insistant on bringing in him into your sort of arguement, he’s got a spot in the squad through hard graft, fergie because he maybe marginally better than a woefully out of form guti, which ones earned there shot eh?
Glad you like bigi dont remember saying he was poor so not sure why your throwing that about

  • 47 Slatymag // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:15 AM

Here’s one that is bound to cause some upset. How do you think Beardsley would do now at his age being virtually immobile just sniffing around the box (fnarr fnarr) compared to Shola? Give me a break I’ve had a few and I’m nostalgic

  • 48 matty golder // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:16 AM

@leazes michu is a good finisher remy on the other hand is a good finisher and skilful with the ball it be great to see remy hit top form with us on the left side and benny on the right and cisse in the middle now that will be some goal feast. I don’t know nothing about doumbia at all

  • 49 Slatymag // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:16 AM

    Like I say I’ve had a few!

  • 50 nick_9 // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:26 AM

Has anyone watched remy more than four or five times? I personally haven’t seen much of him and he seems a big gamble with his current form, injury and heart condition. I’m no entirely convinced he is the guy we are after but if we are we don’t part with money very easily so he must have something about him. He is a goal scoring wide player come striker right? Left footed? Right footed?

  • 51 Blaydon-Toon // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:28 AM

Bobby Robson you still up ? Saw your post the other day said you have 8 hour round trip to SJP where do you live ?

haha slaty i’ve never seen fnarr wrote down and haven’t a clue wat it would sound like or mean but i’m sure in your drunken haze it means summit lol

  • 53 matty golder // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:29 AM

@nick remy is right footed he is better in the centre but can play a lot better than ba n cisse out on the wings. He did start of he’s career at Lyon as a right winger tho

  • 54 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:29 AM

    Nick 9
He can play both wings CF and CAM can use both feet and is very good in the air
This is really the only time he’s missed through injury tbf every other season he’s been a very consitent goal scorer for OM
As for his heart problem i dont think anythings really ever bern confirmed on that could be wrong

  • 55 Sav // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:32 AM

Apart from his having been a team-mate of Hatem’s, I expect Joey Barton will have put the mokkers on Flash ‘Arry and told Remy to get his ass up north to the best fans at the best ‘wee club’ in the land! Small world, innit? Funny how it all works out…
We’ll have to start calling Pards ‘DePardieu’ and the SJP canteen will be serving Coq au Vin and Trifle Tower to keep ‘em all happy.

Still awake due to a late night and long lye in yesterday morning.

Personally, i thought this lad would of been in by now. Speculation has been mounting for at least over a wk now.

Seems to fit the bill with everything we want up on the left or through the middle. Reminds me of sir les. Like sh1t off a stick with balls over the top. Excellent with his head. Very powerful.

Hope it’s completed by the end of the week

  • 57 theroosta // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:33 AM

slatymag, wor pedro had a real footballers brain, he was a genius, thats why i like players of the ben arfa and marveaux who can doa killer ball and who can dribble their way in to the box create one twos and give a fan more hope while watching, creative players a goldust at sjp.

cisse could be on the end of some lovely passes by ben arfa and marveaux in the coming months and hopefully yohan will get back to full fitness, the lad Adam Campbell if he gets a chance will also put things on a plate for cisse, we could have better performances not to far away fingers crossed, we still need those 20 points.

  • 58 nick_9 // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:43 AM

Matty I’m glad he can play better than cisse on the wing, not many can haha. Better than hba though? That’s some statement so he’s clearly made a positive impression on you.

Tads I like the sound of him being ambidextrous and good in the air, seems pretty versatile. I noticed his record was pretty good in the two seasons prior.

So he’s good in the air, can use both feet and has a bit of pace…… Can he put a tackle in? I’m thinking two birds with one stone, goal scoring cb? Mike Ashley would love that

  • 59 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:46 AM

  • 62 Williamsonsuks // Jan 8, 2013 at 1:52 AM

Getting Remy, Debuchy and a CB would be a great window, if we can keep all the rest. Once Benny and Cabaye are back, we could even rotate them with Anita and Bigi. Waz looking very grim but hopefully onwards and upwards.

  • 63 ToonTinka // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:00 AM

Which CB though? This is the most important for me. I personally don’t want douglas as he has a past of being a bit of a liability.

With the way Tiote is performing this season its the last thing we need..

  • 64 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:04 AM

    Toontika

    *tinka not tika! Sorry bud!!

  • 66 ToonTinka // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:13 AM

Lol that made me laugh Tads.

Isn’t that lads market value in the region of 8-10 mil though? I think we will be lucky to spend at the max 5 mil on a centre back if we sign Remy. Seems the momentum has swung to sign a forward to replace Ba now rather than a centre back

  • 67 manxpie // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:16 AM

i would have loved shawcross here but he’s just signed another contract and prob would have been overpriced
but mbwia for me now with his versability

How much is sakho and m’bwia going for?

  • 71 Williamsonsuks // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:24 AM

Marco Andreolli, probably crap but plays in serie A, rated at 3.5mil, and contract runs out in summer. Italians usually produce great defenders. We’re not gonna spend much more than that.

  • 72 matty golder // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:25 AM

    According to the mail.

Inter are making a late bid for Remy.

How do ppl feel about Erdinc if it falls through or Aubameyang? I reckon we have 15 mil for both. 7.5 mil each on a striker and CB? Remy would cost 8-11 mill but is obvs are top target at the min judging by speculation alone

Would love to see…. Remy and alderweireld signed. If ashley is gonna strengthen more than I’d also like aubameyang, 23, quick and can finish. Also like to see sissoko and Douglas tied down to pre contract deals to join for free in the summer. I know he’s not gonna spend the money on 3 players I mentioned but atleast Toby alderweireld and 1 of the others. Torn between the 2 because unsure whether aubameyang can play wings. If he can then maybe sway toward him. But the others on free transfers I see as great deals and dot understand why we wouldn’t try n wrap them up

  • 82 nick_9 // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:52 AM

Couldn’t think of anything worse than being with the opposing fans after a defeat, if they’re friends the gloating gets hard to take. It’s funny you mention speeding as I tend to power walk after a defeat and stop talking. One defeat you can brush aside, 8/9 defeats and several poor performances and suddenly you’re bordering on depression.

  • 86 Williamsonsuks // Jan 8, 2013 at 3:01 AM

He showed flashes of skill, quite tall, not as clumsy as Shola. Thought would’ve turned out great in the epl, but Arsenal had a lot of competition upfront/CAM, some players drop their confidence when competition gets tough, and others thrive.

  • 87 matty golder // Jan 8, 2013 at 3:10 AM

Good point there but still some players just can’t handle it in England with the weather. Like u said he was decent at the start of the season in his first season there in the summer time come winter can’t handle it like some players from abroard. Shola might trip over ball every time he has the ball but uno that on he’s day he can give any player a hard time usually he saves them for the scum haha:)

  • 88 Williamsonsuks // Jan 8, 2013 at 3:16 AM

Shola has skill but sometimes looks uninterested. Yeah it’s great when he slays em Mackems though.

  • 89 matty golder // Jan 8, 2013 at 3:30 AM

  • 90 89Norcal // Jan 8, 2013 at 3:45 AM

I think Shola is interested, but he just likes walking around with that a**hole look to intimidate everyone, since nowadays his main job is to boss around the frontline.

  • 91 Sir Erec // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:01 AM

For everyone saying get Douglas tied up on pre-contract.

No. I can’t stand when people read rumours of players we are linked to, watch a video or so and assume the player is phenomenal.

I could do the same thing with any of our players, just show their good moments and make them look like world beaters.

Douglas is not good enough if we want to achieve anything, Alderweireld yes. Douglas no.

and for people complaining about Pardew being too slow to get transfers done, IT’S NOT HIS JOB. He is not involved with that process at all, he just gets to say if he likes the player or not, it’s up to the other management people to actually negotiate all of the particulars about the transfer.

Personally, I don’t think we can or should sack Pardew because I cannot see us getting anyone good in. Mark Hughes? Curbishley? Neither are a step up.

And lastly, if everyone really hates Ashley as much as they say they do, and really want him out, they would stop buying Newcastle merchandise and would stop going to the matches. But that is never going to happen. So just deal with it, he isn’t going anywhere.

    Rant over.

  • 92 89Norcal // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:15 AM

    Sir Erec

Had Ashley done nothing this transfer window, I think it would have PO’d enough fans to start boycotting him in some way.

At least he’s putting up, long may it continue

  • 93 Sir Erec // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:22 AM

    Norcal

Yes, for sure, I”m pleased at least we’ve brought one player in, but like most people, I’m going to wait until the end of the window to judge whether it was good or not. While selling Ba isn’t great, we can still try to make something of it.

I’m just not sure how many players we could bring in even if Ashley was willing to spend, because I don’t know how much room we have left to register for our 25 man squad. Maybe we will have to sell another player?

  • 94 2_goal_tino // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:23 AM

Sir Erec – I agree with you to some extent about people getting obsessed with signings that we’re linked with and assume they are better than they really are. But I think you are over-estimating where the majority of fans want us to go at this very moment of time. Alderwield is of course better,, he would be phenomenal. But Douglas would be good too. IMO he’s not as good as Saylor but an infinite upgrade on Williamson. We would be stronger with Douglas instead of Williamson and that’s why people want him. He may not take us to the next level but he can do a good, solid job for us at a relatively cheap price. We’ve only got 3 CBs, one of whom is always injured and another is a liability. We need any CB we can get for a good price!

  • 95 nick_9 // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:27 AM

Sir Eric – I can honestly say I dislike llambias and Ashley greatly and hate the smugness they often show. I do however think being self sufficient is a great way to go but feel at times you need to put that aside, the last summer window was the time to do so and could have given us a good platform for a few years. Now everyone is worried about relegation, players jumping ship and if we can attract new players.

I agree the only way to rid ourselves of the Adhley would be to do a mass boycott of merchandise and the games but its detrimental to the team and Ashley might take the hit to show us he is still boss so it would have to be a sustained thing and not many fans are prepared to stay away. The way I see it is the more fans who attend and buy merchandise the more revenue we have which means his plan is more likely to succeed. The only reason we don’t like his plan is because it means little investment, the little investment annoys fans with some deciding not to go to games which in turn reduces revenues.

The best thing for Newcastle would be a packed house every week, lots of tv appearances and lots of merchandise sales. Ashley should have stumped up in the summer for some extra players and kept fans onside. Ashley was far more likely to put his hand in his pocket when he felt loved than when everyone sang FCB. Staying away is detrimental to the plan, Ashley won’t way is paying much tax so we will I’m sure he will keep us as close to break even as he can.

  • 96 nick_9 // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:32 AM

And I personally couldn’t care who we sign and how much they cost if its an upgrade on what we have. We could sign some 20 year old kid from Ghana for 500k for all I care, some fans will assume its not a quality signing but if they do a job they do a job. No fan wants us to spend mega bucks but some fans associate quality with a high few because the good player often go for high money, we however are the opposite and buy very good players for little. I think it’s well within our capabilities to go out and find a quality cb and a st for ten million.

  • 97 89Norcal // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:33 AM

    Sir Erec

Yep hopefully we can retain most our players. I guess the plus is some of the popular targets have been injured/out of form (Hatem, Cabaye, Tiote)

  • 98 Sir Erec // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:35 AM

    2 goal tino

I agree Douglas is a step up on Willo. However, I think he would be good for up till the summer. I think in the summer though, yes it’s a plus that he would be on a free, however, I think with all the tv money coming in, we really should be trying to buy a CB of a higher standard. If Douglas doesn’t mind being the 3rd choice then yes he would be a good signing. I agree with you that he isn’t as good as Taylor, but I think he’d be 3rd choice simply because Tayls gets hurt a lot.

So yes, I agree he would still be a decent signing in January as he is better than willo and perch as a cb, but I just see him as more of a stop-gap as opposed to a permanent step up in our starting 11 for the next couple years.

  • 99 Dagwoodz // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:45 AM

I still think that we should ditch the Remy move and look at Aubameyang and/or John Guidetti, (Citeh player on loan to Feyenoord) for strikers/forward, and then go in for Alderwield or M’bwia for our CB. Every single one of those are definitive upgrades to our “purples” currently on the squad sheet every week. (from our best starting 11).

I think Remy is going to be a lame duck when he shows up and is going to be a flop. Wasn’t big on him last summer when we were linked with him, and his drop in playing time this year hasn’t changed that opinion for the better.

Guidetti has played 19 games for Feyenoord the first half of the season and already has 20 goals…WTF?! And we aren’t targeting him? Last I saw, his valuation was only 7-9M quid, and at 20 years old, perfectly fits what the club is going for.

  • 100 2_goal_tino // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:52 AM

@Dagwoodz – I too think Remy is incredibly over-rated not just by our fans but all english fans in general. He always seems to flatter to deceive. Does one spectacular thing in one game and then nothing for the next 3. I don’t think i’ve ever been impressed by him for a whole 90 minutes let alone for 2/3/4 games in a row.

  • 101 L.ARAVIND // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:52 AM

  • 102 89Norcal // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:53 AM

    Dagwoodz

That’s impressive from Guidetti. I always saw him as a rich club’s investment – i.e. he’s a talented youngster to develop further but not someone for an immediate impact, especially in our situation.

But he’s obviously in form. However I think the attraction with guys like Remy and Jeremain Lens is that fact they can play as strikers OR wingers. Versatility seemed a factor when we signed Anita, probably because the coaches/scouts were confident in Ashley fronting enough funds for specialists.

  • 103 Santon03 // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:54 AM

Geez why people keep going back to summer transfer? MA & DL is not football experts like you, they don’t know what they are doing is right or wrong, they are newbies. They make mistakes like any other owners. It’s already in the pass ffs, let it go please.
At least they are trying to make it up by signing Debuchy and possibly Remy as well. They will sign 1 or 2 cb, I believe they will.
It’s easier to tell others how to spend their money, if we are in their position with our own money, we will do the same thing as they are unless we arab oil tycoon.

  • 104 Sir Erec // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:58 AM

    Dagwoodz

I agree with your players, except for Guidetti.
His goalscoring for Feyernood was last year. He isn’t the type of forward we want. He is also a troublemaker and has spent this season on the injury table at city. I have a lot of friends in Holland and have seen him a couple times, and Aubameyang would be better suited for our style of play that we hope to implement. Guidetti is a good player, just wouldn’t suit us.

    But that’s just my opinion.

  • 105 Dagwoodz // Jan 8, 2013 at 5:03 AM

Wasn’t aware that Guidetti is currently on the physio’s table at citeh, or that he is a troublemaker. If that’s the case, I’ll take back what I said about him. Still think Remy is unfortunately going to be a bust if we do end up signing him. I sincerely hope not though.

  • 106 Assam Toon // Jan 8, 2013 at 5:06 AM

Remy coming in is a good news, but we desperately need a CB. My other big worry is that we don’t have a solid leader on the pitch. Read the below line i copy pasted from bleacher report -
” Without Lampard—and to some extent John Terry—Chelsea are devoid of any kind of leadership on the pitch, so it seems crazy to let him go.”
If you have wenger at helm, maybe playing a bunch of kids can go your way, but given pardew’s apparent soft approach towards the play and tactics we need a strong leader to hold the flag on the pitch. i always somehow thought s taylor would don that role eventually…but then he is hardly playing. somehow i miss nolan….who, when it comes to talent is no cabaye, but has that clenched teeth look that can inspire those around him…

  • 107 nick_9 // Jan 8, 2013 at 5:07 AM

hahaha I know right? Redknapp isn’t doing much to build the team spirit. In fact he’s doing what QPR have done for the last year in overspending.

  • 113 JackButler // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:57 AM

Remy would be a good addition, but we are in need of a commanding center half far more than a striker and without a center half we will still be a defensive nightmare

  • 114 davis_toons // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:07 AM

“I’m not too botheree about Remy per se, as long as we get someone to give Cisse a hand keeping our goals scored greater than our goals conceded. ”

This will not happen. Even thou attack is the best source of defence.

Take a look at the current midfield and the style of play.
Even Messi and CRonaldo will not pass the ball.

When playing for us..everytime they will try to dribble from half way line and try getting past players and score.

Because the min they pass, the ball will be hooted far away from them and the next time was to run back and defence and start chasing like a monkey.

  • 115 bills-son // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:08 AM

OM want to sell, Remy apparently wants to come and there doesn’t appear to be a stampede by other clubs to sign him.

I reckon there is a better deal to be done than the £10M quoted. I bet Ashley thinks the same way too.

  • 116 pizzicatochan // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:09 AM

If you trust wiki, you are doomed..

  • 117 Sazzer // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:10 AM

Although, I can’t see us getting another striker after Remy. I do think we need one. If Cisse gets injured. Where will our goals come from? If we want CL we need to score probably around 60 goals. Cisse and Remy might get us to safety a good season with 20 each. A really good one they might hit 30 each. Remy isn’t in form now either. I do think our defence is equally important in need of one or two extra bodies.

  • 118 Jakenufc // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:37 AM

Why are so many people hating on Loic Remy? Surely extra bodies is a good thing? Hes pacey and could play well on the wing, so whats the problem?
It would be good to also get Pierre E A through the door too. Just so we have more options.

  • 119 Sir Braveheart // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:39 AM

No more rumours or reports, just get this one over the line guys. Then we can move onto looking for a CB.

  • 120 lesh // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:43 AM

Guess it depends which paper you read as to where he’s going!

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2258690/Newcastle-face-competition-Inter-Milan-Loic-Remy.html

Let’s look at the basis of this speculation:

    OM are saying no offers have been made;

If he were keen to join us, what’s he doing in Morocco – if he’s there of course?

Have we actually made an offer for him?

I think not and that it’s just bullshit either manufactured by the press or bullshit generated by Llambias to appease the retless natives?

    Food for thought.

  • 121 89Norcal // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:44 AM

I would back Remy to return to form if he came to Newcastle. Change of surroundings and playing beside friends can be a massive boost.

  • 122 lesh // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:47 AM

And more food for though – this time Simmot:

    http://www.clubcall.com/newcastle-united/london-calling-for-simpson-1528487.html

Picking up upon Pardew’s comments that if we lose a top player, we’ll not just replace him but bring in two?

Two strikers and another FB to come then?

  • 123 Sazzer // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:47 AM

With both PEA and Remy. We would be immune to most short term injuries. We might even prevent some with rotation. It will solve our winger striker problem. Jonas should become a DM. Marveux AM. Obertan probably sold or in part of exchange for one of PEA and Remy.

  • 124 geordie1892 // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:51 AM

Remy will be an inter Milan player by Feb. Were to slow to make our moves. DL should be hung drawn and quartered at the gallowgate!

  • 125 Sazzer // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:53 AM

Lesh – That probably meant that we would only sell a top player for an amount that would allow us to bring in two. That seem far fetched with Simmo and Ba. But we can hope.

  • 126 89Norcal // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:57 AM

Afraid we have little leverage in dealing with Simmo.

We can’t get him to sign a new contract to ensure his fee value stays up because he’ll want higher wages and 1st team football, which he wont get with Debuchy in town now.

Unless he resigns in a stunner he could be off for cheap. That’s not helping our depth at all.

ok quick question which doesn’t necessarily represent my views but here goes. people are screaming for Campbell to get a chance (and even want ranger to) while our squad is thin, if we sign another forward what happens then? he’ll never get a game over shola off the bench.
and if remy comes in and plays on the left where will marveaux play once cabaye and hba are fit?
he could be cam and cabaye and tiote behind him but that’s not ideal for cabaye. and where will that leave anita?
overall these selection problems would be a good sign as there is competition for places but i feel bad that Campbell (and probably fergy) won’t get opportunities at least this season.

  • 141 Sazzer // Jan 8, 2013 at 8:26 AM

Dortmund sold Perisic so might look for replacement. Remy scored 3 against them last year in CL. Schalke have Barnetta, Affelay, Farfan, Huntelaar so I would say less likely.

  • 151 lesh // Jan 8, 2013 at 8:42 AM

    Sazzer, you’re probably right @143.

Wonder if club shlould appoint an official spokesperson to comment on policy matters and leave Pards to excuse the team’s crap performances!

  • 152 Novocastrian66 // Jan 8, 2013 at 8:50 AM

Pardews Perfect Battleplan: I think you have raised some fair points with regards to team selection, I just feel the young uns are a fair way off at the moment and we should avoid throwing them into a relegation scrap. You never now we might, if we’re lucky, have a couple of meaningless games at the end of the season where the likes of Campbell and Ferguson can get a run out.
Unfortunately I think we will be scrapping until the last game.

  • 153 lesh // Jan 8, 2013 at 8:51 AM

    Pay attention Tsunki @147…

Not claiming to be ITK but posted this yesterday:

Got a lift from an Italian cabby last night – an ex pro who used to be with Inter Milan before his cruciate gave up the ghost. He said he’s still got contacts in the Italian game.

Get this – he told me that Pope Benedict’s on the way to Newcastle for a medical to join us a central defender.

But, he said, the signings don’t just end their.

He said he’d also been told that the Pope’ll be joined by Barack Obama (midfield playmaker), Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (attacking midfield) and Benjamin Netanyahu (striker) are on their way too.

    Expect medicals and signings tomorrow.

Remember where you heard it first

  • 154 Santon03 // Jan 8, 2013 at 8:52 AM

I don’t think we can judge the youngsters from only one game. It’s a cup game with elimination, it’s certainly a huge pressures on them.
Sammy seems to be a lazy player everytime he played, he is more like Shola.
I can’t say more about the others, Abeid only played a couple of games, he was good before brighton game.
What happened to the senior players is definitely infecting the youngsters, because they look up to them.
Maybe someone like Tav now has Debuchy instead Simpson to look up to.
Unfortunately Sammy has Shola to look up to.

Isco, Taison, Fellaini! Two probably untrue, but if it happens it would f this league up. Everton would probably steal our targets too.

Seems strange Inter selling one of their young players with potential to improve. Rumours Sneijder looking for a move too.
They definitely have an aged forward line. Cassano 30, Milito 33, Rocchi 35. All still younger than me like!

Novocastrian66… seriously I did get a lift from an Italian (ex Inter) cabby and he said the Inter clear out was nothing more than the relatively new manager refreshing his squad for nest season.

  • 162 Novocastrian66 // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:10 AM

Lynxie: Now we know why Shola dropped out of the Nigeria squad! Didn’t realise Pep Guardiola still had that much pull at Barca:)

  • 163 TorqToon // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:12 AM

Morning gents. Hope you are all well and I assume the picture of Loic Remy is doing the rounds and I imagine causing chaos on here?? :-) Vert good game play by Marseilles IMO.

With the past 48hrs being very quiet on the transfer front – things seem to have picked up this morning! Rumours are rife that Remy has agreed terms and that the clubs are just discussing a fee (OH NO!!!!!) however it seems a little more straight forward than the Debuchy debacle as the player wants to come, the club are willing to sell and most inportantly – want to forge an ongoing relationship with NUFC. :-)

Also doing the rounds this morning in france is news that we are following up interest in Massadio Haïdara from french club Nancy. A 20yr old French LB who GC has been watching for a number of years and has impressed in the youth international setup. I believe he is approaching the end of his contract (last year) so may be something to look at for the future or to pick up for a small fee.

Another rough diamond but having seen the lad play, he is very accomplished. This would, I imagine, if true be a future starting LB for us and allow us to move santon onto a wing.

  • 164 Novocastrian66 // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:14 AM

Lesh: hope you have him a tip. Buy Shola.

  • 165 Tsunki // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:17 AM

Lesh – I tried youtubing that Ahmedinejad lad but I only got a caution from the police.

Question – what are our chances of survival if some of our current first team succumb to injury? For example if Shola, Gabby, Bigi, Willo, Sammy etc join Simpson on the physios rack and we only have players like Debuchy, Cabaye, Hatem, Jonas, Cisse, Anita,Colo,Krul,Tiote, Marv to choose from. I’m worried because I think this may actually be going to happen! Were doomed.

  • 166 Rotonda heights // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:17 AM

    Norcal

From last thread. I think you have sadly missed the point big time. Everyone loved when we played 433 and beat Stoke, WBA etc last season. It was brilliant and hugely enjoyable

It’s not being Pardew haters, it’s more being ”Pardew don’t understanders” and why the hell did he change a winning formula?

Please don’t got there with injuries again. You don’t lose 13 out of 16 just down to injuries. Other teams have them too. From our injury list you can’t really count Gosling and Vuksic who have contributed little to nothing.

Marv has had to wait an eternity to get a game and Amaltifano hasn’t featured at all. Our only 2 big players who have been out, ie Cabaye was played way too deep in a 442 and Benny was stuck on the wing in a 442. Nobody else would need 25+ games to see Cisse and Ba wouldn’t function in a 442.

Morning Torq…thanks for the news bit my friend :-)

…lets hope for some sort of development this week. Most admit I don’t know enough about Remy othet than we was a bright talent (but he is hartly young anymore so hope he have somehow lived up to that predicate)

Point of note from Saturday, when we had eleven men we played like we had ten. When Shola got sent off we had 10 men but played like we had 11. I wonder why?

  • 170 Sazzer // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:22 AM

Wandering James Bond Geordie -how do you know where the agents are? GPS tracking? Can you check Aubameyang, Lens, Mirins agents then as well? And any more news on Pezzella?

  • 171 TorqToon // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:24 AM

Rotonda – I think Pards changed it because he felt like Ba had him over a barrel. Threatening to leave in the summer if he wasn’t played down the middle etc. rather than say – “Im the gaffer! I’ll tell you where YOU play and not vice versa!” He gave in and switched Cissé out. Yes some could say It paid off as Ba was scoring for fun – but I would disagree. We are in a relegation battle now – but last season with Ba wide and Cissé central – we were pushing a top four spot.

I don’t believe sacking Pardew is the answer – he just needs to command more respect from the players – and switching back to 433 with Cissé central and Marv and gabby wide. Should Remy come to fruition, and our big players back, our future line up with be a front 3 of Remy, Cissé and HBA, with Tiote, Cabaye and Anita behind.

    That’s a heck of a line up!

  • 172 Sazzer // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:25 AM

  • 175 numba9 // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:28 AM

Remy will want a big wage to come to us so wouldn’t that money be better spent on keepin what we once had ? Don’t see point at selling players like ba coz they want a rise n success. If you are only gonna have the same issues again. Treading water !

  • 176 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:29 AM

The cry about injuries and lack of transfer activity will always be there…some you can’t please and some just can’t handle adversity!

…if we do sign two more some will still not happy and for some it’s too little too late. I have learned too accept that and just move on. The thing is you can never plan for injuries and remember when wr meet both Swansea and Everton, they had as many injuries to their first choice starting elleven as us.

It’s just the way football is; the trick is to utilize what you have at disposal. That is where you get creative and I most say Moyes knows how to do that better than anybody in the EPL.

    Morning Jesp / Rotonda!

Not sure about ‘big hope for a things French!’ but I’m fortunate with my job to hear the odd thing which relates to my club and let you guys on here know. I would hope the stuff I write is accurate otherwise I wouldn’t even waste the time to mention them.

Remy is class. People go on about him being injured (somebody stated injury prone!!) and in bad form. But the lad isn’t playing regularly which of course affects form and moral. He is coming back from injury and truly beginning to show the man he was. Pace, flair, skill, tricky and most importantly knows where the goal is – and how to put that bag of air IN it! :-)

Not heard much talk recently of isimat-mirin of late – but that doesn’t mean it’s died of death. This happened with Debuchy before we snagged him and also in Germany with Cissé before he arrived on Tyneside.

The board get plenty of stick – from myself included – however it appears we are FINALLY doing things right and the players we are linked with (besides Sneijder, Ince, Zaha etc) are genuinely in our sights and achievable. Just need to dust off the cheque book.

The Debuchy deal was done when Lille went out of CL. They had to wait for liquid money from the Ba sale.

  • 183 numba9 // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:37 AM

We neede another striker before ba left so in effect we need two. Plus two centre backs as well as the Taylors are always injured and willo not a first teamer by any stretch of imagination . This requires investment and I don’t think jabba has money to spend . He just sells 5 and then thinks about bringing 1 cheap through the door

  • 184 TorqToon // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:39 AM

Numba9 – Not as much as you’d think mate. If it was purely about money – he’d have already gone to QPR. For Remy – the importance is settling in and feeling welcome and valued by management, team mates and fans!

    @ wanderinggeordie

Pezzala looks good on that video. However on Wiki, he has only played 7 times since 2009. Either he has been injured for most of this time or be isn’t good enough to break into their team. He has also played 25 times for the U21s so must be semi decent.
