Arsenal Move In For Newcastle Target?

2:15 pm, Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 271 Comments

There is news that Arsenal are now after a potential Newcastle target -  Lucas Biglia of Anderlecht – who has played 8 times for the full Argentine side.

Lucas Biglia

Lucas Biglia – Anderlecht’s defensive midfielder

Newcastle have been linked with this player a few times in the last month or so, but we have a hard time believing Newcastle would be interested in a defensive midfielder who is valued at around £8M, when there’s a certain Moussa Sissoka, who would be available for so much less, with his contract at Toulouse running out in the summer.

And Sissoka can play either attacking or defensive midfield, and he’s only 22 and, we think this lad would be a great signing for Newcastle, and if we cannot get him through the door in January, then hopefully we’ll have a chance of getting him in the summer, given that we retain our Premier League status.

As for Arsenal,  they see Biglia as an ideal  replacement for Alex Song, who isn’t exactly doing great things at Barcelona these days.

Biglia has a couple of years left on his contract,  but we’d be surprised – make that shocked – if Newcastle try to get this player to Tyneside, either this January or in the summer, although there have been reports that Alan Pardew has watched the player, and may want to add to our Argentine contingent.

Alan may want to do that in an attempt to balance things out a bit in the dressing room,  with rumors persisting that Newcastle may change their strips to all blue – we have so many French players in the squad. :D

It’s probably a long shot that we can sign Moussa Sissoko this month, but it seems to us he’s exactly the type of  creative and dominant central midfield player we have needed over the last couple of months.

We think he would be a great signing for Newcastle and a good bargain too.

Over to you Mike Ashley.

    Who? :)

Don’t really know the player, but it’s not in a position we need so they can have him.

congratulations on your research…..1) how many of those injuries were fabrications (at least half)

    2) how do you argue against the manu performance and arsenal for 60 minutes? those were performances with a ‘decimated’ squad yet they were our best by far of the season…..you can still play good football with back-ups. it’s how they’re set up and how they’re coached.

the real question you should be asking is how you manage to lose 12 in 14 with no answer….

  • 4 mattyNUFC // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:20 PM

don’t know much about him….supposed to be good. one of the slowest players on fifa, mind :)

    really hope sissokho can happen

  • 5 Transfer Sage // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:21 PM

He would be a great signing by all accounts of the lad. Can’t see us getting him, think bigger clubs with more to offer will be in for him.

    Matty

Agree with you…..its not just injuries….injuries would account for a lower level of performance than last year no doubt, but not this low.

We attacked man utd and arsenal. If we had attacked swansea, west ham, fulham, etc with that much intent we would certainly have done better than 3 losses which is what we got off those games.

just watched some videos of that aubameyang guy…..this kid looks like an incredible athlete….and his resemblance to Neymar doesn’t hurt either haha

    TS

wasn’t even that we lost those matches….it was how we lost those matches against WHU and swansea and seemingly every other team….there was no heart, no organization, bad tactics from the getgo and even worse decisions mid-game by the manager

  • 9 Transfer Sage // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:26 PM

This window I don’t care who we sign or how much they cost.

We need a CB, striker and possibly a midfielder who can come into the first team right away.

I don’t care of they cost 20,000 or 20,000,000 just them into the club asap

  • 10 Dannyo // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:27 PM

This is a player AP has actually declined interest in.

  • 11 Wayayman // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:28 PM

I hoped we’d get Diame last season when he was on a free. Just the sort of steel we need in our team now.

  • 12 JackButler // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:29 PM

A press release has already been put together by the club and a copy has been leaked.

‘We have tried everything to get our top targets over the line, but money is tight and no one wants to sell in January so transfer fee’s are over-inflated. We have a duty to care for the long term financial future of the club, but we will go back in for our targets come the summer’

Exit Pardew left, red faced with embarrassment and a nose thats three foot long.

now he’s got a bit more freedom at WHU than at wigan he’s showing what he can really do

    Matty

I’ll be honest, I like pardew and still want to give him more time but he does confuse me.

We defend against west ham and Swansea at home when we should take the game to them and keep them on their own half worrying about us.

Then in games at old Trafford and the emirates we go all out attack when really we should be looking to be solid and stifle them and hit them on a counter. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wan lt us to go there and park the bus, but you need to be sensible and not just go toe to toe with man utd.

It’s just stable things like that I don’t get.

  • 15 t00ntime // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:30 PM

    @matty + @ts

Does that not mean AP is learning? We have been getting better recently. Against man utd +arsenal we were passing it around (yes alot at the back but atleast there was less longball). Of we keep playing this style it will surely benefit cabaye+hba when they are fit. Which means we will have more chances AND therefore it will be better for our whole team. If AP keeps learning we can only get better right?
    Atleast imo

Only problem is he doesnt seem to know when to drop players, lik jonas will definitely be back in on sat, even though marv is better. Imo jonas shud come on to close a game off.

  • 16 dinosaur // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:30 PM

I have a great idea: since we were so much better with ten men against Brighton, lets begin the Norwich game with just ten. Then at half time bring on the eleventh, and throw on our three subs. It’s bound to work.

  • 19 Transfer Sage // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:33 PM

    Matty

Also I agree on lack of effort and fight.

Last year we saw players diving in front of shots, last minute tackles, great goalkeeping, commitment all over the pitch with everyone running their socks off.

I dont know if players this year are thinking they can live off lasts years achievements of finishing 5th and with only 1 new player coming in maybe think their position is safe and they can cost by.

I dont know this for sure but we seem too complacent as a team.

  • 20 geoff777 // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:34 PM

Over to you Mike Ashley … love it.

We’re still waiting for the marquee signing we we’re promised when he bought the club.

He’s also pocketed 35M+ in transfer fees.
No doubt eaten up by bore holes and helicopter rides to Liverpool.

Sage, to be honest our manager is a mess of contradicions.

cant knock the fella for last seasons effort against the tide, i can tell you though if man utd had lets say 24 points at this stage and they lost on saturday, Ferguson would probably get the peddler, its all about results, here and now in the premiership, it needs a big shift in tactics at the toon, two more bad defeats and he could be gone 8 year contract or not.

  • 24 Transfer Sage // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:37 PM

    toontime

It does show pardew is learning I agree.

But will he stick with it against the lesser teams or just attack the big ones?

He used a great system last year…433 with ba cisse and ben arfa. That worked great, why did he go away from it?

Even if it was to keep Ba happy why didn’t he then just drop cisse instead of consistently playing him in a position that didnt work.

And why did he cave in to Ba when Ba had no good offers for him in the summer playing left side for us. We moved him central, he got goal and left right away.

Surely he would have been better having the team set up as it was, Ba unhappy and not scoring as many and then I doubt chelsea would have offered the money for him.

  • 28 Transfer Sage // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:43 PM

    the roosta

it is all about here and now but it depends on what the clubs ambitions are really.

Is ashley looking for titles, champions league, europa league, top, ten, mid table or survival.

They never state publicly exact targets, so we dont know what Pardew has to achieve to stay in the job.

Some here say Ashley is just in it for sports direct advertising, I dont disagree that is part of it, he gets a hell of a lot of advertising which would cost him a fortune and if the club becomes self sufficient then that advertising is free for his company.

Some say he wants progression and there is a 5 year plan…would love to know whats in this 5 year plan, whats the yearly targets, whats the acceptable level to fall below, does pardew have to achieve the same targets even if llambias fails in his job or will then pardews targets drop.

Not sure what the club want, no link to any detail of a five year plan or season targets so we dont know if pardew is far off it or not.

  • 30 Transfer Sage // Jan 8, 2013 at 2:46 PM

    geoff

You have twisted my idea to sound stupid.

Ba may be better in the middle but the team was better with him out left.

Instead we buckled to his demands, he played central, did well for himself, the team did bad (maybe not just because of this but it coincided with this) and then we have less points and lose our top scorer.

I’m not sayign we should have had him left back so nobody wants him but left sided of a front 3 worked for the team even if it didn’t get him the goals he needed for his move.

Matty, that was info from physioroom.com

I have no idea why someone would want to fabricate NUFC’s injurys on that site. They have been reported to the best of my knowledge going from their website. I’ll take it as truth though, I have no reason not to.

Man U & Arsenal. Even the sum shines out a dogs ass some days. 2 games out of is it 20? Hardly something to jump and clap to. This squad has been decimated for 6 months.

Ibiza, drop it in mate. Im on a wk off ;)

It took me 5 mins to copy and paste that info. If it lets me go back to last season, i’d be more than happy to compare lads.

    Catchy, with respect.

You dont need to post another teams injury list. It wouldn’t be logical because of all the different factors involved. Players positions, their size of squad and what type of quality they have as cover etc. its a whole different concept. I’v posted NUFC’s list because thats what we are blogging about. Comparing does absolutely nothing because of all the different factors involved. Every team is different. I think that is more than enough info to suggest we could never of operated on the same level as last season imo.

    tood prodigy

We can’t operate on the same level as last season. Very few are denying that.

The problem is that we have underperformed with what we have.

If we had played as attacking as we did in the man utd game we would have been for too good for west ham and fulham.

Also Catchy’s point is valid. West brom are playing bettter, have lost some big players in midfield and have a squad similar in size to us. Yet they have achieved a lot more.

Yes we have europa too which doesn’t help as it interferes with preparation but despite all of these things we should be higher up the table with the players we have had available in each game throughout the season.

and as for the fabrication of injuries….how many times has AP said a player is injuried either a) because he thinks he’s playing mind games with AVB or somebody or b) to keep a player from traveling to an international match?

with the greatest respect,, it is very relevent,

if it where only injuries invloved then yeh, but you have to take other things like
team selections of your fit players
    tactics being used
    quality of players availble
    subs and timing of subs

all these things link into to how a team performs,

from a point of manerging a team, i would say pardew has more first hand experience of managing a team, so i would have hoped he could have coped a bit better than he has,

    Transfer,

My point is ppl are blaming pardew and solely pardew for our current predicament.

This is not valid, far from it.

Are west brom playing development players who are no where near good enough for the premier league? You can’t look at other clubs it’s illogical. Too many factors involved. We only need to look at NUFC.

Do i think Pardew could of made better decisions during the season so far? Yes i do. Do I blame him for the current situation? Not a chance. The buck stops with the board. If we had adequate cover i have no doubts we wouldn’t be sitting where we are.

Some people are shouting for him to be sacked. C’mon now. Where is the logic in that? Based solely on that he made some bad decisions? I think he is allowed that slack considering the situation he has been placed in from the summer.

    Just my 2 cents

it’s so easy to claim folks show up ‘during the bad times’ but you are pigeonholing everyone who’s visited the blog this season then….when has it been good?

just because the majority is turning against pardew (and, commendably pretty snail-like….won’t see too many managers given this kind of time with this kind of ‘form’, if you can call it that) doesn’t mean we inherently hate the club…..go back to our performance against Man U….sure the ultra-neggars were still negative, but the main consensus was one of optimism…..not our fault Pards shoots it down

and if you’re complaining about negativity….give me one interview by AP this year where he exudes confidence and positivity….

  • 72 JackButler // Jan 8, 2013 at 3:13 PM

Getting a player like Remy would be a very good addition to the squad but I’m getting worried that we will still be left very short in defense.
I don’t think scoring goals is going to be an issue between now and the end of the season, but conceding goals has been and issue for years and nothing has been done about it.
Debuchy is a great addition but thats one in one out when Simmo buggers off to London for a big pay-day as a free transfer.
Colo is out of form and has been for most of the season, Saylor simply can not be relied upon as his injuries take him out for large parts of every season and Willo and Perch are simply not good enough, while Santon is still developing but is starting to look a solid player.

No doubt Ashley will try to get away with spending the bare minimum during this window so what he does spend HAS to spent wisely and in the right areas and that defensive reinforcement..
We need a Sakho and a Toby Alderweireld or we’ll simply lumber from one defensive horror show to another.

I don’t wan thin sacked but understand people worrying.

Say injuries drop his down a few places from last year so we get 10th instead of 5th.

Then not signings players knocks us to 12th.

Then pardew making strange decisions and not selecting the best team and getting them to play the right way could be the difference between that 12th position and relegation.

I don’t solely blame pardew, neither do most here, it’s just people see that we could be a lot better off than we are currently.

I think he will turn it around but never know.

I think west brom is a decent comparison, similar squad size, similar level of back up player etc.

But the differenc me is age. They have a lot of players who aren’t great in reserve but they have experience which is the difference for me.

Like you say, when doing a comparison you need all the facts, not just a select few.

People screaming out for CB on here are correct to do so, but should realise that any CB will take time to settle. They are not the short termm answer to our problems.
Its well known throughout that CB always take time to settle in.

I would say a striker to replace Dembas Goals is a defo straight away. We are not guaranteed a return to form by Cisse (Though I hope/think that this will happen).

So I can see valid argument for Striker being first priority and I would honestly try and get an EPL premier League CB on loan if need be, to come in with Experience of this league. Lescott would be perfect!

(AP)”Based solely on that he made some bad decisions? I think he is allowed that slack considering the situation he has been placed in from the summer.

He has been given a lot of slack….any other club and he would have been fired. This whole situation reminds me of the Venkys @ Blackburn. I stated this some months ago….the response was we are nothing like? Really, not that much. I do not think Dekka is any good for the club, and yes AP has not had the support he needs, and yes injuries have hampered our season…..but all of this has to be proportionate to our results and league position. IMO they are not and this is largely down to AP’s decision making. Now everyone has given AP a lot of slack but OT and Emirates have confirmed that we can compete in this league even with the players we have out……so I think it is only fair that AP makes vast improvements. Another shambles like B&H or our home display against Everton, then I ‘d like to think that people will be questioning AP. But people keep banging on about injuries yet cannot explain other things….
Why can we not defend set pieces?
Why can we not score a corner?
Why have we never come back from conceding 1st in the league ever under AP?
All this stuff is training ground coaching stuff, irrespective of the personnel on the field. So any answers…or am I going to usually get the same dumbfounded silence?….(not aimed at you, but its a general observation).

    first 14 games,
please check the teams we fielded,

those team where good enough to give them a real go,,

OC pardew is not to blame for everything,
players have to look in the mirrow and say have i done anough for pardew for the fans, and i think you can say no they have not
but pardew picks them, no one has a gun at his head

take jonas, IMO gives us nothing in MF we have better wingers and DMC,
but he had an option to play him RB where he plays for Argentina, or LB where he has looked comfertable,,
his subs, we go a goal down, he nearly always makes a defensive change first,
these are things he has full control of, and makes a bad choice most times, we could struggle for 70 mins, then he wil make 1 sub, then a few mins later another

thats not just this season,, its been for 2 years

his after match comments, the words come out of his mouth, and he is accountable for those

i have said this a few times,, a few times this year he has said the kids are to blame for not being good enough, in the matches those kids played in, there have been more senior players that let the team down before the kids,, and if you check the polls on this very site, youwill see that, in a lot of these games,, we as fans think we got better games from some of the kids than the senior players,

when has pardew said, as a team we were just not good enough, its bad shit to single out the kids
the tactics have been his bigest problem all season, whe has he said I GOT THAT WRONG

He can be a bit lazy getting back when caught up field, that’s where Gutierrez helped him out a lot. The goal conceded against Everton, he showed a bit of naviety by letting the striker go in front of him and score. Your points at the end hit the nail on the head. The coaching at NUFC is sub standard. No players progress or improve. We have had talented youngsters just stagnate over the past few years, and you could say since scrapping the reserves under KK. Donaldson was an England youth captain, what the hell did we do to train that out of him. It is our biggest problem if the board continue to buy rough diamonds and youngsters, unless we improve the coaching staff this plan will never work.

With Saylor on the verge of a return -I hope they are not gambling again that we do not need a replacement CB.
Or I hope they are not making a match by by match assessment (over the next two games) to see if the position needs strengthening. Fans will be annoyed if a poor CB display against Norwich results in the match being lost.

Sadly there is a very long way that this club needs to go. I seriously question the intentions of MA/DL and their 5 year plan? I question their structure and ambition? The noises coming from SJP appear on the surface to be correct yet our actual performances and actions appear to be going backwards. Lets just hope that this is all part of the process….you know you have to suffer the pain before you see the gain kind of thing.
On the other point about AP, some people on here think your a neggar, or you get satisfaction in point out the errors of our mgr. Really….I do not get any pleasure in this…..but I am a realist….sadly some people on here will back AP to the hilt….even if we carry on in the same vein as we have done this season…..making excuses for the mgr ….injuries etc. I do think anyone can dispute the damage injuries have done….but people need to be proportionate and see the wood for the trees. Now IMO if we can compete with Man U / Arsenal away….why did we not show up for other games? Are we really saying that the players did not turn up at all for the 1st 15 games of the season? REALLY.

I keep saying this but we shud reserve judgement till after norwich
    1) a key player will probably be back (cabaye)
    2) its our first ‘weak’ opponent since pardew has gone attacking, we can finally see if he is going to keep going forward (like most of us hope)
    3) our season wasnt going to be saved by man utd/arsenal/everton they are all way out of our lane in terms of the league. Our season (atleast atm) will be decided by weather we can beat the teams around us. Starting with norwich.

If we keep attacking and passing when cabaye is back i have no doubt he will refind his form. Also with debuchy and hba on the right surely we can finally get some good crosses/passes in. If marv stays on the left (cant see it) we will have good crosses from the left+right+center and we will be alot stronger imo. But again that all depends on what tactic pardew uses against norwich. And weather he has or hasnt learnt from his mistakes.

Is it not pards first time in europe? He has to learn too you know.

i mentioned before i would judge in the new year

i’m over it. his negative tactics, his anti-football, his apparent lack of motivation, his apparent losing of the dressing room, 12 losses in 14 matches, two years of hoof ball, disgruntled players, continuous lies to the fans, his delusion in how he sees his team play week in, week out, the awful substations, the reluctance to drop under performers or give others real, deserved runs in the team, his inability to step up to the board, his gross miscalculation of our squad and his contentment on September 1st with the squad we had, his backtracking, his excuses, his inability to lay the blame on himself fully in any circumstance. i’m over it. players back or not, he is a second-rate manager who is incapable of catalyzing this squad to perform the way we (i) know they can

this is me of course, i won’t get on the ‘PARDEW OUT’ bandwagon and conclude each post with it, but my hope for him is done. I want him gone and replaced with a positive (personality and football-wise) motivational man a la Martinez or Laudrup

I think its a tough call now realistically if your going to sack the manager it should of been novemberish?
If say we sacked him now a new manager would want x anount in transfers immediatly which i cant see MA stumping up for on top of any compo he’d have to pay pardew
So then if you dont do it know then you have to give him time to work with the new signings and then when?
Feb? Could run the risk of disrupting the team further

    Cracking article.
However, I will say, at the begining of the transfer window August, Pardew did say he wanted 3-4 Quality players, that dropped to 2-3 then eventually, hope to get one quality player, ANITA duly arrived.

I think Pardews only fault then was he is obviopusly tryng to protect his buddy Mike.

With regards to Pardew rating the likes of Ameobi etc….that is very worrying and I have voiced that numerous times in the past!

the bigger question is IF Pardew is sacked/resigns, who would come in?

  • 151 mattyNUFC // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:11 PM

i agree it would be a tough call to do it now. should have been done hypothetically in november but 1) plenty of fans were still willing to give him time then and 2) ashley would never have taken action that would have proved he was so wrong only two months after awarding ap his 8 year contract

would i, if i were to make the call, do it now, knowing all of the worst potentialities ahead of time (as, apparently MA and DL don’t weigh things so thoroughly)? I think for the benefit in the long-run, yes, i would, but ONLY if we were assured in getting a man who could turn this around.

Its horrible isn’t it…….we stalled and did nothing….now we have to put up with the music. If AP was gonna go it should have been before Christmas……now mid window- could you imagine the panic? Not a good proposition to join is it…..no mgr and probably no funds. I just hope AP turns it round….but if Norwich is another damp squib I’ll be stating my opinion very firmly…resigned to the fact that there is probably very little we can do this season other than ride out the storm.

  • 153 Dannyo // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:12 PM

I don’t think he’s protecting Mike, i think he simply is avoid any kind of official confrontation.
That wouldn’t be good for the club at all. It would unsettle staff and players and you’d know who would lose.

No Decent Manager out there who would want to replace him in current predicament, aqnd all it would do would unsettle further.

However, if MA does splach some cash this T/Window, and we fail to get into the top 10…..then I would definitely advocate disposing of Pardews services!!!

It’s not always bad when you replaced manager in Feb.
You do have a point on compo, but I think if no improvement in Feb AP will be sacked. MA has already experienced relegation before, I don’t think he want to go through that again. I don’t think the next manager won’t be given 8 years contract anymore.

  • 166 ToonTinka // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:19 PM

    I respect everyones thoughts lads.

I just cant see any logic in firing pardew.

With our first starting 11 being consistently on the field this past 6 months and the players brought in which we needed?

Do you really think we would be sitting where we are? Truthfully lads. Going off the way we performed last season?

    Spreadthetoon,

Why cant we defend set pieces? Lack of confidence. Lack of organisation. They are proffesional footballers, coaching only goes so far. The buck stops with the players as soon as they get on that pitch. Our confidence has suffered for a long time now, the players are under performing. just look at Colo. Lets not even mention williamson. Chopping and changing our back four consistently due to injuries and suspensions is never going to help. We have had perch, anita, taylor, santon, ferguson all over that back for in the past 6 months.

Why dont we score from corners or set pieces? This one is pretty obvious to me. We simply dont have the quality or ability in the squad. I cant remember NUFC ever having that sort of quality or ability since Carroll. We have never been prolific scoring from headed goals for a long time as far as I can recall.

Are these really good enough excuses to move a manager out that got us to fifth last season though? Drop all that hard work that was evident last season that done so well. I cant justify that.

Bare with me lads my nets off with virgin at home. Mobile fone signal is not the best.

A manager/ coach is a leader……they are somone who is an inspiration to others/ that sets the standard/ that leads by example/ that has strong characteristics…….
Remember AP does psychological tests on players…looking at their psyche to see if they are a good fit for the team/ are battlers etc….so my own feeling is that if the mgr does not set a good example what hope has AP. I do not think the man has a backbone…..really beginning to see him as an extension of “the regime”.

Basically all I was asking was for the truth???
End of the window he couls have quite easily stated, we didnt get the players we wanted because the biard could get the deals done!! Instead as I stated, he made himself look like a tw@ by protecting his bosses.

A bit of spine from the Manager would probably galvanise his team behind him dont you think??

Instead, jellyfish makes a pretty good successful team saying a we need to add quality to the squad, owner sticking his 2 fingers up at them and boss saying sorry boys, changed my mind sticking with Mikey on this.

Thats my opinion anyway. I know who I would have backed if I was a player!

    No leaders there!

  • 183 Santon03 // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:31 PM

I think it’s pretty much the manager’s fault. He is responsible on how the team performed. We pretty much have the same team as last season but different results. He should be concentrating on problem solving not giving excuses in interviews.

Keegan done away with the youth set up in the 90′s we are pretty new to this youth set up, I think it was Ashley who brought it back again when he first came in so our development side of things is still in its infancy

  • 185 Transfer Sage // Jan 8, 2013 at 4:33 PM

That was a great article put up about the development squad

I said the same thing about amalfitano when he signed. If a player at 23 isn’t ready for first team football he never will be. There will be less than 1 in 1000 that come good after that age.

Why so we persist with sammy but never try Campbell.

Give ranger a go but never amalfitano.

It’s just so bizarre. I don’t care if ranger is older than Campbell. There isn’t a single stat to suggest he is a better player and he certainly isn’t a better professional.

Something really stinks in our club at the moment.

look at how players like Rooney, Owen Wilshire, fabregas, oxlaid chamberlain, sterling have all shine when given the chance.

From the awards Campbell has won and his stats and the games I have watched him in I genuinely believe he could burst into the scene.

But why play him when we can play the bigger players like ranger and sammy ey

My points are based on what i call facts for the current situation.

Lack of quality in depth brought in.
    Horrendous injury list.
Lack of continuity in our first 11. Especially the back four. Constantly having to chop and change.
1st team players underperforming when available.
    Lack of confidence and morale.

Sorry lads, Anyone who has Pardew down to be sacked, I cant justify it. Not after what i witnessed last season with a consistent set of players playing week in week out. I put a list up earlier that there has been 56 injurys to our first team squad and back up since july. Imo no manager or different set of tactics, or with swapping players here or there would of made a great deal of difference.

I’ll rest my case until we get our players back and a few fresh faces in. We will then see if its a tactical, motivation ie manager problem that we are suffering from. I have to say, I highly doubt this.

I’m not sure we have ever been actually linked with Pezzella beyond people knowing Carr came to South America and then thought who might he be looking at. Pezzella is highly valued by River and has abuyout clause in his contract of around $15 Euros. Plus even though he is recovering from injury at the moment he has been taken to pre-season training with the rest of the River squad in Tandil. Cant see this one happening at all

    wandering

i think it’d be hard to deny now that there is substance to it

and, honestly, who COULD be happy in that squad right now? if he isn’t the one to step up and rally the troops and wants to leave, fair enough, he’s served us well for a long time. then it’d be up to the board to stump up the cash to buy a personality like that with the footballing skills to match.

  • 222 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 8, 2013 at 5:03 PM

We need to get 2 strikers and a centre back in before Friday, otherwise we’ll get beat by Norwich.

  • 223 geoff777 // Jan 8, 2013 at 5:03 PM

There’s absolutely no indication that we are going to sign anybody.

I’m sure Graham Carr has given Llambias & Pardew a list of the best players in different positions.

    So why no bids?

Possibly because they are going to play the same game as usual. Put in a stupid low bid and then walk away, hoping the selling Chairman caves before the window closes and sells cheap.

A second possibility, there is no cash for more transfers.
The Debuchy and Ba deals were very closely timed.
Was the cash from Ba used to buy Debuchy?
    Is the war chest empty?

Bit worried about Norwich away with the players we have available. So far Norwich have only lost to Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool at home in the league whilst beating Arsenal, Tottenham, Stoke, Sunderland, Wigan and Man u.

It is a shame Taylor and Cabaye wont make it as they’re spirited players. Little bit concerned the midfield players are a bit lightweight against a team like Norwich with fight

    Kets,

I’m usually pretty confident (therefore often wrong) about our results. I always expect us to win, even away to Manure.

I’m not confident about getting a point from Norwich.
They are playing with confidence, at home with Chris Hughton winding them up for our visit.

Lose to Norwich and Reading at home becomes huge.
    Lose that and Pardew’s finished.

In not calling for pardew to be sacked either.

I disagree than another manager couldn’t have gotten more out of this bunch though. I think with a good manager we would be at least 5-10 points better off.

Just my view, can’t prove it either way so take no issue if you disagree with it. No point arguing over something which can’t be proven.

The only persons head I an calling for is llambias. He is chief negotiator, he overseas the running of the club.

I hear quotes of pardew saying Ashley was asking do we need a CB, what can I do to help etc. whilst I don’t believe Ashley does everything to help looking at the evidence we have a lot of blame can be placed on llambias.

He negotiated for de Jong, Douglas and debuchy in the summer. Money must have been available or he wouldn’t have spoke to other clubs.

Therefore the blame is fixed on him. A skilled negotiator realises when they can’t get what they want for their money and he should have moved onto another target on pardew and carrs list.

Sack llambias I say…..get that rat out of his club.

    To counter my own argument.

If pardew said we haven’t got enough in te squad because other clubs messed us around how would that make our players feel?

They would feel not good enough, especially fringe player and it could damage morale.

As I said, it’s difficult. I think pardew gets the balance wrong in press conferences but I judge him 90% on performance and results…PR takes up a very small percentage of what I look at.

It’s not just he is arrogant and smug and grinds in people it’s that he doesn’t understand the game at all.

If he worked for sports direct and annoyed people I imagine he could get away annoying people as they are the biggest Sports retailer in the country so have power.

In football Newcastle are quite small in Europe compared to the top sides and we don’t pay as much as a lot of clubs around Europe so he can’t afford to make enemies.

    He is rotting the club.

And Ashley is equally as bad and just as guilty for employing the snivelling little weasel

    Transfer,

I fail to understand who these people actually think we are going to get in to replace pards if we did try and replace him? Would he take us to fifth? Or would they want him sacked after his first full season in charge for going through a slump or an injury crisis. Or because he didnt pick the players WE think he should play? Who would work under such a regime to start with..

I agree with everything about llambias transfer, the mans a crook. A lowlife. He has no business being in or around NUFC. For what ever reasons MA trusts him. I certaintly dont when it comes to his negotiating skills. Lets not forget a certain Lee charnley is involved in these negotiations aswell. How much involvment is up in the air, i dont think its been clarified. No more room for mistakes this window though thats for sure.

Come on Redknapp, Nelson gone, and Willo is available, he is not that great but younger and stronger than Clint Hill. And Big Sam if you take on Gosling and Simmo, we will give a Ranger for free. He’s better than Chamakh on his bad days. One for the development squad. You need on if you play in Europe and can’t afford good players. Really, neat to have when result isn’t coming your way. Get a scapegoat and you don’t have answer or learn from coaching mistakes. Every need a scapegoat that’s why Sir Alex bought De Gea, and why Mourinho wants him all of the sudden when results doesnt come his way. Sir Alex also bought the referees for the same reason. One exception to the rule – teams with long-term contracted managers don’t need them since he is to expensive to sack.

If our board can’t help us other boards might. Scapegoat sell out.

    Obviously not then….
Robin…May I suggest instead of taking your anger and frustrations towards Ashley and Pardew out on me that you engage your brain in some form of debate or take a walk off the tyne bridge, whichever you prefer, I’m not too fussed.
In the meantime, some information for you.
    I am not a clown.
I do play Fifa13. I think a fair majority of football fans do, it is after all a game targeted at those that enjoy the sport. I don’t base my opinions on Fifa, I suggest you don’t base your opinion of someone on the fact they play it.
I’d love to go to a match, but left the UK when I was 14 and rarely come back for more than a few days and it’s always to the south of England. Sorry if that’s not good enough for you.
Lastly and most importantly, just because someone doesn’t share the same ideas as you doesn’t make them a “daft little know nowt” or “social retards”.
Last bit of advice, if you don’t like it do something about it rather than just complain on a blog. One idea would be don’t go to games.
So, other than try to insult me, you’ve made one other contribution to the blog. Whilst Pardew took the manager of the year accolade, the players and even Ashley for getting those players were celebrated. It is a team game and that runs from top to bottom, but by all means you just single one person out – that seems sensible.

All fan anger should be directed at him, he’s a leech of the highest degree!

I am from Belgium and believe me Biglia is not good enough to play in England. In Belgium he is good, but that’s that. He didn’t show up to go to Turkey with Anderlecht, because he wants a transfer and he thinks Anderlecht is asking too much. Anderlecht are asking 10m Euros, but Fiorentina (who are the most interested ATM) will never pay that amount for him.
