Yohan Cabaye is struggling to be fit for the game at Carrow Road on Saturday, and after he’s been out a couple of months we’d be surprised if he plays on Saturday, even if the manager includes him in the squad that travels to Norwich City.
Yohan Cabaye — still doubtful for Norwich
And if doesn’t look like Steven Taylor has much chance of making the game against the Canaries either, but Fabricio Coloccini, Papiss Cisse and Jonas Gutierrez will all return to the starting line-up, after the disaster at Brighton last Saturday.
Alan Pardew was asked in the local press if it was too early for Cabaye and Steven Taylor to make it for Saturday:
“I think it might be, but we will push them as hard as we can.” “We cannot bring them back, play them for one game and then they are out for five.” “It is better if they come back and stay fit.”
“We are on a knife-edge now with form and everything else.” “Debuchy comes into the team and we will look like we have a much stronger team than at the weekend.” “Shola is ineligible because of his red card too.”
“Perchie is doubtful with his knee, but hopefully, Jonas will be back and Colo and Papiss.” “They should train on Thursday with a bit of luck.”
Newcastle have 17 league games to go and we are on 20 points, so we need at least another 20 points to be safe, and of course wins are the name of the game in the coming months.
And we need to break our terrible run some time soon, and Norwich would be as good a time as any.
This could be the starting eleven on Saturday:
Krul
Debuchy Coloccini Williamson Santon
Bigirimana Anita Gutierrez
Obertan Cisse Marveaux
So we would still be missing Yohan Cabaye, Steven Taylor and Ben Arfa – and James Perch – but it would seem the first two could make the game at home to Reading a week on Saturday, and if we cannot win that game we’ll be in big trouble.
Comments welcome.

All this talk about a Striker…IMO we need a CB far more than a Striker…actually we probably need 2. Steven Taylor is injury prone – and the next CB could get injured (or Collocini) during the course of the season..leaving us once again with Williamson – who’s at fault for many of the goals we concede. This would be a dagger into relegation, IMO (unless our attack can pull itself together).
As a reliable CB/LB, I’m still big on this guy (available on a free), Mason Trafford: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_REMUOZ5fPw
I also found his recent highlights (he can play both as a left-back and CB): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJi-AjV5XoA
What separates him for me is having outstanding distribution and ball skills – as well as obvious defensive ability. I think in the modern game distribution is so key – guys like Collocini/Pique do this well – Williamson does this badly. This guy also has great anticipation – he used to be a forward/midfielder (I used to play with him many years ago)
Trafford’s being courted by a number of prominent clubs so I doubt he’ll be around for long. I believe his team made the Europa league this yr – but from what I’ve been told he wants to move on to clubs outside Scandinavia

If they are not 110% ready then better rest them (we are gonna need them this season)
3 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Jan 8, 2013 at 10:36 AM
Guthierez in midfield could be good for us. I guess he has to play anyway as there are not many other options atm. If he runs around all game and presses hard, he could be good, also he will provide defensive cover and hopefully be there to cover Santon when Santon is up the pitch and can’t get back

5 rainrix // Jan 8, 2013 at 10:42 AM
Canada… Big step up though from the finnish league to PL especially with the mire we’re in atm.
I agree about distribution although i think santon and debuch are more than adequate at moving the ball forward. What we really need is a powerful strong in the air CB similar to distin/hangelang , it says a lot when your best arial defender is shola ameobi
We also need a pacy defender as well, in the mould of distin again
. Colos starting to slow down we need someone to keep pace with quicker attackers. Or someone hows strong enough to force them off the ball.

i think we hav seen our transfer business concluded, all the talk re player profiles, dossiers, checks etc is just to sound good, and to look proactive! IF and big IF we have all this in place then WHY have we not got someone over the line, knowing for a FACT that BA was going to be leaving???
7 Beattie25 // Jan 8, 2013 at 10:44 AM
Fcuking joke of a club.
We are rushing players back to try and cover the gaping holes left due to lack of investment.
We are told they might be ready, they might not. Well even if they’re not webshoukd have adequate cover and if they are injured why aren’t we actively persuing cover.
Your not telling me we couldn’t have bids for Sissoko, Douglas and sulamenjani accepted.
All out of contract, all quality and all what were looking for. If they turn us down fair enough! It feels like were not even trying even though our biggest 3 games in the history of our club are coming up.

Repost – sorry!
Rainrix – I’ve heard the talk about his heart defect and its not in the same ball park as say Muamba / Morosini et al.
It’s a condition that can be lived with and not even known about. The vigorous and in depth testing that professional club medical teams highlight this but does not affect playing at the top level and has been proven 99.9% of the time to have no adverse affects on performance or health.
Some might not be aware the Mo Diame and Nwankwo Kanu had this same condition. Yet because it never affected them – it wasn’t given air time.
In my professional opinion – it isn’t truly defining in whether a transfer should take place or not. I believe it has little to no effect on what can be achieved by Loic Remy – but of course is something the medical teams key in record.

It’s not always that simple.
Would it be ideal if we had deals tied up for jan 1st…yes of course but not always possible.
-Sometimes players aren’t available as clubs just dont want to sell
-Sometimes clubs want to wait and see if they have a replacement
-Sometimes players want to wait to keep their options open ,see if a better offer comes in
There are all sorts of factors that can hold up deals and make things take a while.
With our spending, try to get the best deal possible, we have to hang around a while and see if a price drops. Chelsea can tie deals up quickly as they wont be as tight haggling over 1/2/3 million etc.

No longer gonna waste my time writing anything of length on the blog comments, cos 5 minutes later there is another posting loosley on the same subject. ED how about cutting down on the blogs unless there is a totally different subject.
For this one if Pardew dedicated as much time to the Team and player asseessment as he does to spouting a load of Tosh, we would possibly have a good team
14 jayphoto // Jan 8, 2013 at 10:50 AM
I might be a bit biased as St Ettiene are my french team, i work in France a fair bit and go to a game each time, personally i much prefer aubameyang! If 8m is the price for Remy though pierre-emmerick would not be a cheaper choice, hed be 12-15m! Les Verts also have a beast of a young centre back, kurt Zouma! The new desailly! Just turned 18 but playing week in week out and out performing other defenders in the league!

I’d Sammy Ameobi gets anywhere near the starting 11 after that performance on saturday I’ll be questioning life itself.
I give 100% everyday and even the it’s sometimes not enough. That little Cnut looked like he couldn’t give a shit. Terrible attitude and deserving of punishment.

Hopefully Jonas will be a yard quicker with a layoff to recharge his batteries.
He’s been a hopeless all season so far.
Why do we never fine tune our squad?
Instead we just keep Jonas, Willo, Simpson et al.
Sell Jonas at the start of the window see what we get and buy a younger hungrier replacement.
Same with Willo, sell for 1-2M and buy a 22-23yo replacement.

Accepted, however, what is stopping us making it clear we are going after these players, and actually doing something instead of keeping reports, which will end up going no where as other clubs will step in??
I can’t fathom out why we can’t be tieing up deals for Douglas, Pieters, Sissoko, etc, they indicate they are interested, they coming near end of contract, £10-12m investment now i covered by a 70% increase in tv revenue, I know the fat controller likes to gamble, but the stakes are far too high now!!
As for Pards, well i think this season has shown he is not upto the job, great last season, but sorry, he has been shown wanting this time round, no tactics, no plan b, very poor and no other manger anywhere would still be in post after this record of defeats.

Re “try to get the best deal possible, we have to hang around a while and see if a price drops”
Thought we had a billionaire owner, up to the present time we have spent a net figure of £1.1 million this season, last season it was £11.6 million and the two years before that it was a profit of + £24.75 million and +£24.0 million
So we are well in credit on transfers. whos to blame Ashley, Llambias and Pardew, and us as FANS for putting up with it.

I agree the progress should be much quicker.
But just because there is no reported bids and clubs aren’t confirming anything doesn’t mean we haven’t been in discussions. No formal bids may have been made but clubs could be talking.
We saw the plan backfired in the summer so I get why everyone is sceptical, I am myself.
I’m still confident we will bring in 2 more players this window.

Both re exceptionally quick PEA is the faster of the 2, Both very tricky players and due to versatility both not seen as out and out strikers
For my money Remy is the better player and safer target, PEA has been at a few clubs where he hasn’t made an impact and really only peaked at St Etienne, never set the world alight at either AC or Lille (loan), Remy has been great at Lens and Marseille and he came through Lyon where he didn’t really get a chance
Hope this sheds a touch of light

I posted the transfer figures last night. We have made 34mil over the last 5 seasons in transfer profit.
We have a billionaire owner but that doesn’t mean he has a load of free money to chuck around, most of his money is tied up in his assets, sports direct and NUFC.
He isn’t like abramovich where he has a bank account with 10 billion to spend as he wants.
I’m not saying he has got it right, we should spend more.
I want to see a couple signings this window, a CF/winger and a CB.
The summer coming will be his biggest test…we are currently breaking even so when TV money goes up by £20mil that is free so to speak, not needed for other things….so surely we can spend a good chunk of that on top of what we already had assigned for transfers.

cheers gaz , read blog everyday but too many itk now, even though i don’t claim to be itk just pass on What i hear from my mate who work in France for Leeds united sxouting system…
from What i heard newcastle spoke to remys guys in December, the noises were he had heard spurs and arsenal were interested but wanted to hold out to see if bids came in for bale and walcott so remy has said he wants to weigh up his options at later date.. since then think he’s more keen on coming to toon but now were not sure on him as his heart may notb in it.. for this reason there favouring pea at the moment and it would free up more for a cb which we are looking at sakho and mbwia from France as first choice.. (may be others from other leagues only know French), sissokho is a no go unless we lose a midfielder, ..
all the talk bout Ben arfa and pardrw falling out is rubbish, the team fully behind him and made board aware of this..
and i know we all want instant success but with Debuchy the sake of 6month saved us close to €3mill , i don’t like it but it is how the clubs being run, we also bid €13mill for remy in the summer which was rejected straight up, looks like could save a fortune there and don’t be suprised to hear us linked with loris nery in the coming days..

Bits of new info. It said something of Remy weighing up his alternatives in December articles. But Nery was new. He have been mentioned by bloggers. And bids on 13 m I haven’t heard before.
35 TorqToon // Jan 8, 2013 at 11:16 AM
I don’t know if its already been mentioned but in my professional opinion, remy’s heart condition isn’t a major concern in the same way Muamba / Morosini’s was. Relatively unnoticed unless being tested at the highest level, and no adverse affects on performance or health. Nwankwo Kanu coped fine and nobody has mentioned the Mo Diame shouldn’t be signed because of HIS heart defect! Nothing of major concern IMO but something medical teams keep an eye on and on record as course.
36 theroosta // Jan 8, 2013 at 11:16 AM
Hopefully cisse will get some quality service if he is playing through the middle, maybe debuchy can get that quality in there and santon who along with obertan can provide after having shockas last week, they owe us big style, they better stand up and be counted along with th rest of our players, its another long trip for our fans, pull your fingers out.

The problem for santon is he is too reliant on jonas. He should have good cover from elsewhere.
Look at everton with pienaar and baines…..they overlap well and create a lot. What you dont always see is that not only do they cover each other but they get help at full back from the defensive midfielder phil neville or whoever else is on there.
We also seem to lose shape…..if we had only one full back attack at a time…if simmo is forward santon should sit and vice versa….then you have your two CBs, one fullback and a defensive midfielder who can slot in if needed to make a solid 4 at the back….failing that the 3 can squeeze narrow until the fullback returns to his position.
Our shape isn’t great a lot of the time as we seem to play a lot of players who like to be central.
eg. ben arfa, cisse, ba, jonas, tiote, cabaye, perch, all these like to either stay in the middle or drift inside which causes us problems out wide as we have no shape just open spaces.

TS, the problem for Santon is that he cannot defend! He is absolutely reliant on Jonas just like Baines with pienaar, you take one or the other away from Everton and they do not look like the same side, they also play a totally different system to us with their 4411, those 2 are integral to how they play, what worries me though is if we struggle to cover Santon when Simmo was playing then how will we fare with Debuchy who also loves to bomb forward, if both go up we would get screwed!
As you said we really lack discipline with shape this season, IMO this is the huge difference between the 2 most recent seasons

I have high hopes for santon. He featured a lot under mourinho for inter which suggests he can follow plans and stick to tactics well. Mourinho doesn’t suffer fools and expects players to do their job.
Attacking wise he is very good. Look at full backs in the league….not many have more than 1 or 2 goals and assissts.
The main attacking job of a fullback is not to assist (might sound counter productive) but to overlap/underlap and create space for the winger who will have a much better delivery.
Obviously get the exception like baines, ivanovich (although he is mainly a CB) and jordi alba but most full backs dont get a lot of assists.

Your most recent post there re overlapping, that’s the problem with santon, he overlaps and cuts in, been saying that for some time now, his cutting in leaves us exposed, I feel much safer with him on the right tbh when he doesn’t cut in, he shouldn’t be cutting in due to its lack of counter productivity!

thats where tactical discipline and planning will hopefully come in and it’s up to the players to attack responsibly not go all out every time we have the ball.
Debuchy is an experienced international so hopefully he will already understand this.
Santon is still young and learning so this comes with age and experience…although I do think he is too naive.
Baines is another example of experience, when you have years of experience at a certain level you spot little things which might make you think…hang on, i’ll hang back a minute and see what happens,…or now is the time to make that run etc.

2 months ago people didn’t know what a purple or a brown player was, it got mentioned and now it’s the new thing to say on this blog…
For me there are two types of players:
1) the type that wear the Newcastle shirt with pride and work their socks off for the club…. For example (on occasions) Ameobi
2) money grabbing Mongrol dog c@nts such as Ba who didn’t
Give a sh!t about the black and white stripes…
If Remy turned down QPR offer, which he will have been offered more cash than at St James’ then he’s the type of player I want, as he will be happy with the rest of the French contingent.
Personally I believe our transfer dealings this month are over and done with but I’ll say it again “I hope I’m proven wrong”

Regarding the transfers
Why are we only linked with forwards?
As it stands right now we have 3 cisse shola Campbell , yes it would be nice to have another , but with the midfielders we have we can mix and match , we could even class HBA as a forward , it is an option
Our main focus should be at least 1 very good CB, we can not depend on saylor to stay fit, we can not depend on Williamson at all, ESP if Pardew wants to play a high line, perch is a total nightmare at CB( better as DMC )
Defence is our biggest problem we have no cover, or am I wrong with this to ?

As for Remy and a CB – I’m just waiting to see now. I have said I’m giving time to the club across the board.

Pardew – Forever! I mean…ermm….well…Pardew out! Sillyness aside (for a brief second anyway), I’m not sure for me when his time is up, I think we were seeing some improvement (up until Brighton), so I will see how things develop over the next couple of weeks.

TS, you’ve been listening to Gary Neville too much! He has time to develop, but as it stands, I see Santon as a player with great energy, running power and good close control. However he doesnt do a lot in real terms creatively, and he hasnt looked like a good defender from day one. Largely this is because he lacks concentration, and doesnt get close enough to wingers. he looks neither a full back nor a winger / attacking midfielder.Against Norwich we badly need to see Marv and Cisse facilitated. This will be crucial.

I agree defensively he gets exposed a lot, and gets away with a lot of criticism on here than simmo we be slated for.
I didn’t know neville made that point but if he did I agree. He obviously has talent or else mourinho wouldn’t have played him. I think he needs to be rained in a bit, not as cavalier as he has been so far this season.
If we had a proper left sided player to attack, hopefully remy in my eyes, then we might see him sit back. As it is jonas end up covering too much which does neither of them any real favours.
Santon does need to work on is delivery as it is below par. He could really benefit by spending 30 mins a day running down a wing to the byline and crossing with his left foot while moving. He will improve if he works at it.
The whole defence/defensive aspect of the team from keeper to forwards has been shambolic in parts this year and at best bud standard…so that wont help him but I agree he needs to improve as well.

I expect him to field the strongest available starting line up. They had raised their game for Arsenal and Man U, can they do that against Norwich? If they can we “should” get a better result to build from. I’m not expecting it to just click, but given how crappy everything has been I expect to see signs of improvement. To kick on again some confidence needs to be built, we have a few games in which to do this before things start getting tricky again. Here’s to hoping.

The thing about santon is that he’s about the only player we have who can actually get us out of defence and further up the pitch bar krul hoofing it.
If we try to pass into the middle we usually get harried off the ball or more likely it goes back to colo/willo. We all know simmo cant dribble for jack and relies on ben arfa to get us up the right of the pitch.
We have to see if debuchy can do what santon can do and dribble out of defence and open space up for our midfielders. Its probably why we play long so much, we can barely get the ball into advanced areas without it.

But feel with the club not sorting the ba issue sooner they have backed themselves into a corner and put themselves under enormous pressure to perform this window in regards of players they need to bring in and a CF has become as bigger priority aswell as a CB, should colo or cisse pick up an injury were in the brown stuff!!
110 Williamsonsuks // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:18 PM
I honestly think he has. He can get passed players with ease. An out and out winger doesn’t fit in with our style, there’s no great headerers so pointless crossing high balls, other defences clear them most of the time. Santon drifts in and shoots or tries to slip a pass into the centre. He’s young and thin, most wingers can push him over with ease making him look worse than he is. Jonas is slow but tougher. If Jonas was told dont go to high up the pitch he’d do a good job in defence.
111 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:18 PM
Yo…Not that we don’t need a ST, but for me priority is CB. I’m not really expecting too much more than 1 or 2 in, so that would be CB and then ST. If we can get more on top of that then that’s great, but just trying to keep expectations realistic and that is the minimum I think the team needs now.

115 Beattie25 // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:21 PM
Santon has 2 problems.
Confidence and tactics.
His confidence is drained and is always fragile but the lad is 21. Imagine him at 27, he’ll be world class.
The tactical side of things from our point of view is again (as with many players) not suiting and/or bringing the best out of him.
Pace wise he as quick as Baines and dribbling wise I think he’s better. However Everton have a system designed to press up the pitch with Baines and Pienaar forcing the opposition to play clearances. On the odd occasion the opposition play out of defense they both track back and Neville, Jagielka, Distin and Heitinga plug the gaps.
With us if Santin goes forward Jonas holds back when he should be joining the attack. Anita and Tiote should be plugging gaps with Colo and Saylor and covering the full back position.
Pardew has the old fashioned 4-4-2 that is designed to stop the opposition counter attacking but with it brings a high line and against pacey attackers a long ball will always do us and with Jonas, Simmo, Colo and Willo we have the 4 slowest defenders whom are unable to cope with speed. Santon will be out of position often and will be blamed more than he should.
Watch Everton next time and see how they do it. It isn’t Pinearr covering for Baines it’s Distin moving left. Baines is out of position more than Santon but their tactics are simply better.
You don’t need coaching badges to see that. We are too conservative with one if the most exciting and talented teams in the leauge.
Blame lack of signings all you want but poor tactics are as much to blame as anything else this season.
Peoples criticisms of Santon are similar to that of Ben Arfa last season.
These players aren’t designed for the systems they’re forced to play and to ask them to do things unnatural to them is ok when it brings the best out if the team, but it doesn’t and it is far from bringing the best out of the individual.
I don’t think we’ll see the best of Santon and all his potential until Pardew changes the system or we find a man who can.

Norwich to me is absolutely pivotal and APs excuses are bordering on extremely repetitive. We made gr8 stirdes at OT and Emirates but then played very negative / contained football at SJP against Everton and that shower of shlte @ B&H. AP has got the personnel to do better, he’s proven that, so nothing less than a spirited performance will do for me. IMO looking at Ed’s teamsheet, there is more than enough there, and I think the defensive shape will be 100% better given the inclusion of Debuchy who I am really very excited about!
118 Rotonda heights // Jan 8, 2013 at 12:22 PM
Hadn’t seen this, but Munster has absolutely nailed it.
” Yes we can all see that Pardew had had injuries but he has also had plenty of players who were not injured. We have enough quality to be doing far better than 11 losses in 14 or whatever it is .
And losing to Brighton. Did u see the level of motivation on the pitch???? Its been an appalling season and Pardew and others ( including you ) need to stop hiding behind injuries.
Pardews tactics, team set up, negative vibes, shocking free kicks and corners are nothing to do with injuries, just bad training and a stupid approach.
Who dictates that we play a longer ball game than Stoke? And believe ne, if Pards doesnt cop himself on, Cabaye and other will leave NUFC because they wont want to waste their talents on him.
If he firnly believed in 4-3-3 and a tighter passing, possession game, then why do we depart from that so much on the pitch, and why do our players back off so much in order to keep their formation.
Its because, probably, the manager has a negative approach, and believes also in long ball football. Were Ba’s comments today inaccurate ? Nope

He burst onto the scene as a highly promising 17 year old and PSG put alot of faith in him, paid him big, made him captain etc to keep him, then since hes just had horror form! he can be pretty error prone, ancelotti doesnt really trust him as centre back! not sure whats happened to him to be honest, he seems to have half the pace he had when he was 17/18, alot of times he is PSG’s weak link! I can only assume all the bloggers on here that want him to sign go from his Fifa or FM ratings which reflect what was expected of him when he was younger!
For me, from what i’ve seen the best centre half in france is marseilles N’koulou! think he would cost massive money though! After that Yanga-Mbiwa is very consistent, very quick, not much threat attacking though and not dominant in the air, would suit playing with a big man! Aymen Abdennour of toulouse is also a very good defender, great distribution and everyone at toulouse is for sale! aside from that there is Aurélien Chedjou who has had a few consistent years at Lille! For the stand out is Kurt Zouma at les verts but he is the absolute darling of FFF at the moment, future national team captain etc, if he were to become available i think all big teams would be in for him, the worry is his career may go the way of Varane (another fine centre half) who should be playing week in week out but settles for the Madrid bench! for me, NUFC would be a great step for Zouma before he makes the move to the very top!

We cant compete with the finances of the top end like city, man utd and chelsea…no way.
Then clubs like arsenal and liverpool generate so much more than us too.
We should be ahead of spurs, everton, etc as a result of ticket revenue as they will have similar levels of income commercially as us.
You are right though, it shouldnt be one or the other.
The annoying is the club seem to think living within your means in spending x amount even if we just get a striker. When in reality if we have only x amount we should split that between the positions we need.

@89norcal – dunno mate, hes definately alot slower than he was, looks constantly unfit! at 18 he was a machine but now he plays like hes hungover! I think ancelotti’s problem was that he was a poor trainer and didnt set a captains example!
for me i think he’s a victim of being too hyped when he came onto the scene, itd be hard for anyone to become the player he is expected to me, the guy definately needs a move and the potential is massively there, just he looks like he never wants to play

Am not expecting to compete with City, Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea for money but howay Liverpool wont get much more than us history doesn’t pay
Everton have no money at all but invest intelligently through their scouting network now we are told our scouting network is top draw so why did we fail so badly in the summer? Network has a track record of finding great players for less than fair value so did they fail or did the board ignore their suggestions?
Imo if we dont invest enough this window and we get relegated we are in a far weaker position to bounce straight back up than last time

A team of Krul, debuchy, Collo, NEW CB, Santon, anita, cabaye, tiote, ben arfa, cisse and marveaux in a 4-3-3 would be a fine team which we could then add to more in the summer!

The clubs set out objectives were, get us running in the black and then build us a competitive squad. From my understanding we are now running in the black, so the push should be on the squad.
This window needs to be dealt with properly, but I’m not expecting miracles, just enough progress. Then when summer comes a calling and that extra TV revenue will be a chance for Ashley to show us how this plan really works, I can’t see too many reasonable excuses being left at that point.

Matty….From his words, I think that is exactly what I can do. I didn’t insinuate he had, but that his words indicated that to be so. As we have both now said…we will see.
I don’t know the severity of Cabayes injury, but I do know several players play through some and it’s fine. Don’t want to speculate who, what, why or when on this issue. It seems clear he was below par and I think it’s somewhat safe to assume part of that will be down to an injury (whatever the severity).
On Benny, i didn’t say under pressure due to injury. When I said pressure I meant to get something from the game. I think we can both agree that is more likely with Benny in the team, but he got it wrong and Benny it seems wasn’t ready.

Injuries are an issue for this coming game and certainly played a part at brighton.
2 things to add for me.
1. we lost a lot of games to teams like west ham, swansea, fulham etc when we had some injuries but not enough to account for the kind of performance we saw.
2. the kids aren’t that good, very overhyped but I think some of them showed poor energy in games when they have been called on.

Look at how spurs re invested money from carrick, berbatov, keane and modric
the problem is we wont spend it all or if we do it will be spread of over 2 years and will do more harm than good.
We have a profit of 36mil in transfers over the last 5 years. I imagine the 36mil has been spent on wages and sustaining the team for a year in the championship with lower tv revenue.

But injuries in the last 4 or 5 games have taken their toll as we have had no one to come in off the bench
Also remember the fans shouting and bawling to play Benni against Fulham and looked what has happened.
Would not risk anybody against Norwich and hope we pick up a point -Got to Get them fit for the Reading and Aston Villa games.

JB….I fully expect to hear that at some point, I just hope it’s along with some actual new signings.
TS….His injury record seems better than most of our current team

there is a conspiracy theory that says the only reason Pardew was given an eight year deal was that when Ashley sells up his mate would get a massive payout when he would inevitably be sacked.
But we are not that lucky, we’re stuck with Ashley for a long while yet

I’v made a list of the injuries we have sustained since Pre-season or there about from July. Take into account our threadbare squad due to the board not investing and lack of quality cover, and also are extra Euro games. Also take into account our suspensions. This makes for very grim reading.

56 injuries in total. Now how do you get a team to play good football with this amount of disruption in such a small squad in 6 months? The answer is simple. You can’t. Lack of investment, lack of quality cover throughout the squad due to the board and their wayward gamble in the summer. Coupled with low confidence and moral in the squad for the same reason. First team players are a shadow of themselves because of it.
Hopefully we are on the up now, and the board will fix this mess they have created.

I dont think remy would be a 20 goal a season player bu t could imagine between 10 and 15 goals which is ok when we have cisse who can score.
Also ben arfa chips in and if played further forward cabaye should get more, as will marvoux.

congratulations on your research…..1) how many of those injuries were fabrications (at least half)
2) how do you argue against the manu performance and arsenal for 60 minutes? those were performances with a ‘decimated’ squad yet they were our best by far of the season…..you can still play good football with back-ups. it’s how they’re set up and how they’re coached.
the real question you should be asking is how you manage to lose 12 in 14 with no answer….

But that is pretty horrific something has to be up with our facilities, i remember something about the training pitches being hard during winter and that was causing some problems but i thought that was fixed. Maybe its tiote

Hi there guys, ive been following the blog religiously for over five years but comment only sparodically.
but every know and then I hear some news and pop it on here.
My best friend is currently in Arnhem holland and he says newcastle have reignited their interest in eric pieters the left back.
I couldnt find anything on the web but there are articles coming out of italy today claiming milan and roma are interested in davide santon.
It wouldnt suprise me at all if a santon sale of 12-16 million would fund pieters 4-5 million and a striker.

No doubt that old chestnut will be run out at some point as we seem to be clutching at straws during every window that Ashley’s overseen. Bet Pardew’s having sleepless nights already thinking about be thrown out in front of the press.

apparently the transfer of santon would habe to be enough to fund both pieters and a replacement striker. as it seems ashley is again unwilling to release additional funds

on the kids
ferg has got a quality left foot, we have all seen it, some of his crosseshave been top draw, he should be encouraged to use it more,, given the confidence to use it, he is nippy , and gets stuck into tackles,, he can be a top player
i remember abied in pre seasons, he was one of our top players, i seen him 2 times, and i think he is a good player
bigi,, he has been given the confidence to go out and play, i dont think he is any better than the 2 above and will get better
amalf,, does not seem bad at all, good ability, very hard working
santon, only 21, yet i feel he been let down the most by pardew, some of you have gave him a hard time for not being maldini now, face it he gets caught out because he is trying to be LB and LW and he dont get te help he needs,
take jose and jonas, there looked quality together because IMO they worked together, santon is only 21 and trying to do both jobs,
tav, i would of had him at right back all season, i think he is better than simpson right now, and can only get better,
im not saying these should all start, but i dont think there as bad as pardew is making out,, he should have been saying, my senior players have let the kids down, there looking for leaders and no one showed up for them, looking at the poll bigi, top
he should say to players like obertan,, watch the kids and learn, he has no fight in him, and i would not have him anywhere near the team when we are scrapping

Ibiza back by popular demand what a Clown your craicks lifting maybe if you actually went to the Match instead of playing Fifa 13 you would know what you are blurting on about us in the real world are fed up to the akers with League one football at Premier league prices. Ashley might fool daft little know nowts like you and the other Social retards that hide in the house when I’m paying to watch Pardews cock-ups going through the motions!

Matty, that was info from physioroom.com
I have no idea why someone would want to fabricate NUFC’s injurys on that site. They have been reported to the best of my knowledge going from their website. I’ll take it as truth though, I have no reason not to.
Man U & Arsenal. Even the sum shines out a dogs ass some days. 2 games out of is it 20? Hardly something to jump and clap to. This squad has been decimated for 6 months.
Ibiza, drop it in mate. Im on a wk off
It took me 5 mins to copy and paste that info. If it lets me go back to last season, i’d be more than happy to compare lads

I think Ed has got the starting XI right for this one:
4-2-3-1

Debuchy-Willo-Colo-Santon
Bigi-Jonas
Marveaux-Anita-Obertan
Cisse
