Has This Defender Played His Last Game For Newcastle?

5:46 pm, Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 329 Comments

With Matthieu Debuchy having been brought in to shore up the Newcastle defense, there will now be few first team opportunities for Danny Simpson,  and we expect Newcastle to try to move him out in January, if the club gets a decent enough offer.

Danny Simpson atromitos

Danny Simpson – probably played his last game for the Magpies

Like a number of other Newcastle players, Danny has not had a good season, and in the last month his mind often seems to be anywhere but on what he’s doing on the field of play, and it seems he would like a move to London.

And it seems there are a number of London clubs willing to take Danny off Newcastle’s hands, and they are Fulham, West Ham and QPR.   QPR will probably offer Danny the biggest wage packet so if that’s what he wants he could end up at Loftus Road.

But QPR are also one of the favorites to go down this season, but Harry Redknapp may still be able to save the London club from relegation – maybe.

One reason that Simpson wants to move south, is that his new girlfriend lives in London, although his former girlfriend is now pregnant with their second child.

Fulham or West Ham seem two good clubs that Danny could join, and we think Newcastle will be looking for around £2M for the former Manchester United defender,  whose contract runs out in the summer.

And once Yohan Cabaye comes back, Newcastle have right back cover with Vurnon Anita (and also James Perch)  – in case Matthieu gets injured.

Danny currently has a hamstring problem, which he picked up in the Arsenal defeat, and he may still be out for two or three weeks with that injury, but we don’t expect that to stop any potential deal being struck.

It may be a win-win situation for Newcastle and the buying club – if a £2M fee can be agreed.

Comments welcome.

Hopefully he has. We”ve got 10 right-backs at the club.

  • 2 geoff777 // Jan 8, 2013 at 5:52 PM

Nope, he’s five months away from being a free agent.

Why on earth would he move now? Get real.

  • 3 danuneek // Jan 8, 2013 at 5:54 PM

    I bloody hope so.

  • 4 danuneek // Jan 8, 2013 at 5:56 PM

In fact its probably wise to have him as back-up until the end of the season no matter how bad he is. I think he can still do a job defensively.

2 million lmfao. more like 2 pound. he’s awful.

  • 6 Spreadthetoon // Jan 8, 2013 at 5:56 PM

This window is like all the others…….AP talks about working around the clock….yet the press mention lots of players signed by other clubs. For example West Ham have signed 3 players …..Newcastle 1.

Again Dekka’s playing brinkmanship….this time it’s with the club……what a “winner”…he is?!! We knew Ba was gone, we knew we needed at least 1 if not 2 CB, we knew we needed 2 strikers if Ba went cos’ we were short (hence de yong).
Unbelievable that this window is shaping up like the last one already. Do the board not understand that Jan has got 9pts written all over it and that we need players in sooner, rather than later?!!!

Still with the Betfair posts -nothing definitive/attributable. I do not know how good their info turns out to be.
Could a possible scenario be that he wants to come to the Toon (hence rejection of Dirty Arrys’ intervention) and that the Toon are thinking of a loan deal because of no money or doubts about his fitness. I don’t know -clearly it’s on the back boiler if Remy is still in Morocco.

The overreaction to how bad Simpson supposedly is is equalled only by the overreaction to how good Cabaye supposedly is.

Imo Simpson has given us great service for the £600K we paid for him and the £10k wages he got as part of the Championship winning side.

You lot calling him worse than shit should hang your heads in shame. Supporters my rse.

Simpson is hot because he got lovers in London. Ready to pay for both his feet and his sins. Who will be lucky one – Big Sam, Red Harry or JawvyJol?

Jesper….Please don’t ask me to understand why you would feel the need, I haven’t a clue. Nothing makes sense anymore, I’ve lost my craick (btw Robin, it’s craic or crack) :)

  • 34 Premiership Manager // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:15 PM

Simpson is a good squad player who has had more goal line clearances than most players in the PL.

It’s wasy to slate the defence however the real problem lies with our inability to control the midfield and keep possesion up front.

  • 35 geoff777 // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:16 PM

    bills-son

He like many of our Championship winning side should have been replaced by better players.

Perhaps out of the 35m AC money that Ashley pocketed?

  • 39 p // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:21 PM

    Different perspective here…

Lack of rumours (compared to normal) may be a good thing that the club are conducting their business – for the most part – in private.

I’d like to think they are lining up some steals (you have to say Debuchy is a fantastic deal on the face of it) and no one else will know until it is too late.

However, if we do not hear by Friday, I think it will be the same old story of the deadline day drama followed by “we tried… no one wanted to sell… signings are complicated… etc”

  • 40 Mister Tuff // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:21 PM

@geoff777yes he pocketed it the greedy fat so and so. then he cooked the books to make it look like the money was within the club. then he rode off on shergar to meet his mates lord Lucan and buddy holly for a pint

  • 42 Sazzer // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:23 PM

Our good squad players can’t beat Brighton.

  • 43 Peter Beardsley // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:25 PM

At this point in the season last year we had conceded 25 goals and scored 30. As it stands today we have conceded 25 and scored 27, we have only scored 3 goals less than this time last year and conceded the same -and that’s with all our injuries this year! not bad!

The problem is last year we conceded many of our goals in fewer matches. We were more motivated (or lucky) in more of our matches. I think we are lacking leaders on the pitch. Cabaye’s fire is missing, and maybe there was a feud with Cisse and Ba?

Well Cabaye is back soon, hopefully we get a Ba replacement, and if Debuchy can add some experience and leadership I think we will be fine!

    Keep the faith!!! HTL!!

Bills son – you said it he is a 600K player, and should not now be a first team player at this club. Personally wouldnt pay that for him.

The smoggies got George Friend for 100K and Simmo couldnt lace his boots, career in the championship for Simmo, the lad is obviously deluded regarding his worth.

He is Shite and the Debuchy signing is a long time coming.

We shipped far too many goals last season too.

Simmo is a valuable squad player though we have now upgraded. £2m fee with contract ending soon is an over-valuation.

Am more worried we won’t get a quality CB.

  • 57 Sazzer // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:35 PM

What planet or team is he talking about? The development squad?

  • 58 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:35 PM

Geoff….We were also relegated, not sure what the costs for that are. Transfers in and out only show one part of the clubs finances. I’d suggest a look at the accounts will show a more accurate account of the maths since Ashley has been in charge.

Obviously I don’t know for sure what he has, hasn’t or plans to do, but just because the club has made a profit with regards to transfers alone does not make the man a criminal in a legal sense.

Jesper…Look at the Arsenal article @41, then you’ll know as much as me (which is that robin us a fine upstanding human being that I’d be honoured to be in the presence of – Honestly, I’m still tingling with joy that I’m worthy of mention…I mean, it’s bloomin’ robin! Talking about lil old me!).

Not sure I want to be associated with that pairing as on this blog as I believe they’re already associated with another duo at the club.

  • 59 Sir Braveheart // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:36 PM

Normally Id say keep him as cover, but if its a choice between 2m extra towards a Striker or CB or going for nothing in the summer I’ll take the 2m now.

  • 60 check the toastie // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:36 PM

For me we just need to go ahead and replace Willo now, Saylor is a waste of space regards injuries, go and get Grant Handley from Blackburn or some other similar big CB who doesnt have the turning circle of the Ark Royal.

He can do a job at rightback. But nothing special. Should he be on par with are other defenders in regards to wages? Maybe, he has a shout as he played a hell of alot last season and was part of our good finish. He didnt accept the contract offered so we have to move on.

Hopeless as a wingback mind, terrible.

Like i say though, im sick of anita or perch filling in there and for me Tav should be no where near the first team at this stage in his career. Would be nice to have a RB as back up

  • 88 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:56 PM

Geoff….Okay, maybe lost in translation a bit then. I’m not an expert of accounts, but know enough to get by. The club is a company, it’s the company that would pocket the cash, not Ashley personally. There are ways to remove money, but they would be documented (one way or another).

I would imagine the companies bank balance would improve an offer of purchase, so ultimately he may – but I don’t think we’re there yet.

  • 89 ToonTinka // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:57 PM

Dreamboat 2 is a massive boost, but we need more!

  • 91 Sazzer // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:57 PM

Guys we have got back-up for Simmo if only he signs that new contract. Otherwise its up for that guy we only got because Cabaye should stay. Relegation battle from Top4 here we come. At least we got this back-up this window.

  • 92 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:59 PM

Jesper…Do you think he was having a dig at me? :) Must have missed that bit. Oh well, such is life. I guess as a non attending fan I’m not allowed to be pro or con anything at the club, surely he doesn’t want me to agree about Ashley and Pardew, I’d have to attend to be able to put together that opinion.

Anyway one and all, I am off. Take it easy.

  • 93 bills-son // Jan 8, 2013 at 6:59 PM

Santon is another player vastly overrated by many on here.

His defending is non existent at times and 99% of his forward runs produce nowt.

He is a great athlete and looks good on the ball but in reality he flatters to deceive. He may turn out to be a very good defender but he is a mile away from that currently.

  • 94 Tinman // Jan 8, 2013 at 7:00 PM

Agreeably Simpson would be a good back up RB or certainly better than what we have. He can even be used at CB at a push I think. So would be nice to keep him. However there is no chance he will stay and play number 2 when he wants to move south anyway.

I remember in Spy Bar (Jesmond) around Nov last year me and a couple of mates met Simpson in the toilets. Cant remember exactly what was said (pissed) but either way he got pissed off with us squared up to my mate and said ‘I dont give a f anyway, I’ll be at Arsenal in January.’ hahahahaha. So he has obviously wanted a move for a while and clearly thinks he is a lot better than he is!

On the subject of meeting Newcastle players…

Also met Ryan Taylor and James Perch in The Cut (next to Tup Tup). Two very nice lads, had decent crack, kept themselves to themselves, we didnt stay too long as not to bother them. Seen them having a meal together in Jesmond aswell, must be good mates.

Met Pardew in Hexham, nice fellow, had loads of time for everyone.

Used to see Cisse and Ba playing pool in the casino, downstairs where the sports bar is now.

Met Shearer, Given, Harper and Clark all at the Diamond in Ponteland. They used to go there after matchday, I was just young back then so didnt really talk to them. Dad and his mates always said they had good crack.

Gave Jonas a high five in the metro in his first season here aswell, he had bags and bags full of shopping haha.

Beardsley thanks for taking it as it was intended, i wasnt being a know it all but i’m always looking at stats. The two recent games we conceded 11 so there’s a bit of an anomaly there.

Proud i would love us to get 7th and think that could spur us on, in reality i think we’re more likely to get. Imagine if we got nine though? that could truly kickstart the season towards a respectable finish. Norwich are no mugs at home and have only lost to chelsea, man city and liverpool having beaten arsenal and man united there. Hughton has them tough to beat at home.

transfers don’t happen overnight. imo there is a lot going on behind the scenes to get at least another two players in. remy and a purple cb. Ashley will not put the tv money at risk for next season which is reported to be in the region of 137million. 20 million this window is pennys to what he will pocket next season if our premiere league status is achieved

Agree with Bills that Santon is a work in progress and he does tie up a midfielder who has to track back to cover the spaces he leaves when he moves forward.

It means we really need a left sided DM in the same lineup. I reckon Marv and Santon would be great in an attacking lineup but there’d be a big hole to cover. This is where we could do with a libero.

Just hope he’s still with the Toon when he reaches his peak.

Proud i think he had the wool over your eyes mate, 1+1+3 ids definitely 4, right guys? haha. I think four on current form is realistic but then its so tricky to predict. I think we could go their and get a draw or win but at the minute we dont seem to draw many games and thats where the four comes from. I think a point away at Norwich is a good point but i could see it going either way, us sneaking a draw/win or caving in, then getting a few players back for the home game and winning that. I wouldn’t be surprised with anything from 3 to 5 points from our next three games, 7 would be great though

Billson at 28 – spot on. Some of the guys on this site wouldnt know a decent player or a crap one if they were staring them in the face. Simpson is limioted going forward, and not confiortable under pressure on the ball but he has most of the time been snappy in the tackle, quick to close down, and a reasonable reader of the defensive game. Also a good man for a line clearance. What wingers took him to the cleaners? Santon could learn a bit from him. As for Cabaye, he hasnt been the player he was, and isnt worth half the 25mill people were banging on about last season. If Pardew cant get him further up the pitch he wont assist us as much as people think, and his temperment is so so too.

  • 160 check the toastie // Jan 8, 2013 at 8:34 PM

Only Newcastle employee with a chance of Silverware this year. Curtis Good, maybe we should loan Bradford all our players and we could infer that we have actually come close to winning something.

For god sake dont let Pardew take charge or else he will come up with some excuses about our players not being good enough to compete. Wonder if Bradfords coach tells his 2nd div team the same before they take on a PL team.

Cabaye is an automatic selection for France, if he doesnt look great in our colours its because the ball sails over his head all the time or there is no movement around him, Jonas, Ba, Shola, Simmo all guilty of this.

People having a go at Cabaye are missing the point, the the football Pardew demands (back to front) leaves cabaye and Mr T chasing around trying to win the ball back.

No wonder Mr T has virtually given up the ghost, i worry about how long Cabaye will suffer the shitty tactics and football that is being coached at the club. Same applies for Collo, Santon, Debuchy, Anita, Ben10 and Cisse,

Pardope should be sacked immediately. I have no idea why people are putting up with the results and performances he has served up. The buck stops at his door, do the honourable thing and resign Pardumb.

    Amalfitano? (WHY?)
    James Tomkins?
    Marriappa?
De Jong? (who has proved a total flop in Germany)
    Erik Pieters?
    Douglas?

all of those players are well below the level of quality needed to stay in this league this year and push-on. Pieters and Douglas would be like bringing in another Willo and Simmo. GC needs to make sure we use this window (if we use it) correctly. I couldn’t imagine having to put faith in some of the like we’ve been aggressively after in the past.

Thank you very much Graham Carr, are people seriously having a go at Carr, bellends, his scouting of players at bargain basement prices is the only reason why we are playing PL football.

The reluctance to get some more of Carrs gems through the door is what is holding the club back aided obviously by the bellend who runs the team who clearly doesnt want them to pass to each other, would sooner gamble on hoof football.

Beattie last year that team would have smashed Bedlington, its not about ability its about desire currently, the club is poisoned currently for me, needs the main man out and a major overall, too many players have given up as they know they will get no chance,

The constant selection of Shola, Jonas, Simmo, and Willo have proven that Pardew will pick the team irrelevent of form or contribution, it f##king stinks.

Doesnt help that Pardew is pretty much telling anybody who wants to listen that he needs new players because anybody already at the club isnt good enough, the man is simply trying to look after himself, in the process alienating everybody against him, he must be on borrowed time surely.

Big defeat against Norwich coming up, i expect no Cabaye, no Collo, the players dont want to pley for the useless prat anymore.

    He’s been found out.

  • 198 mattyNUFC // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:28 PM

but hey! don’t get me wrong! i want more players in ffs!

i just feel that each signing will somehow shape our future transfer policy….it’s like being on eggshells with MA at the helm…for instance when Cisse signed I was soooo worried he might flop and then poof! that’s it! what little we did have for transfers evaporated and we could look forward to a few cast off recruits here and some championship journeymen there

does no one else feel this anxiety?

Matt. Unless you know something I don’t you do not know how “aggressively” we pursued these players. It may not have got beyond an enquiry.
No doubt one of Carr’s roles would be to put a value against these players. Newcastle obviously thought they were not value for money and did not buy them.
Carr’s contribution to the club should not be underestimated.

matty – Neil Taylor would have been great for 1 million pound, the lad had a great year before he was injured.

Erdinc, De Jong, – not sure about these granted, better option than Shola, Sammy defo.

Douglas, Marriapa, Pieters, Tompkins all better options than Willo? probably, personally have watched Douglas a few times and think hes pretty useful, especially for free, were lets face it, is were we do our business.

Carr has been brilliant is the point, and we havent signed those players and i reckon its because Carr maybe wouldnt give his total blessing to a couple of them, Tompkins, Marriapa.

Pardews admitted signing Obertan, now dont get me wrong i think the lad has ability, but he really does lack fight at times. what do you get for 3 million these days though.

Carr could make us PL champs if he could enforce how he wanted his signings to play. Remit – sign smart technical footballers, fast nippy ball players, then Pardew has no idea how to use them, its so sad its untrue.

Wonder how Bradford got up for a cup competition like that on a tuesday when they played at the weekend.

Bradford had a few young lads in their team tonight, clearly had no chance, need a few more purples to compete in these cup competitions you know.

The players have stopped playing for the manager, i have seen it all before with teams. Parsnip cannot come back from this, the sooner he is gone the better. The only pulling power the club has is the 53000 super fans who give the players their heart if they see them doing likewise.

Im sure Cabaye told Debuchy its a fantastic arena to strut your stuff, not that Pardew is the best coach he has worked with.

Only get the One which you felt it can make it in EPL. That is why we have not got one yet.

I do question the players faith in pardew…what else has caused them to go for fighting for 90 mins a game last year to not fighting at all now.

He could have lost the players but I personally don’t know so don’t want to speculate.

We have 3 huge games coming up…all 3 games we should look to win. Not saying we have to win then all but we need 6 points at least out of them.

The players will know that it’s he biggest 3 games of the season. If they show no fight during these games, no matter who is playing, I think it will be a strong indication pardew has lost them.

Have to see how they go.

  • 224 check the toastie // Jan 8, 2013 at 9:59 PM

Matty – Neil Taylor was a steal at 1 million, there was talk of Arsenal going in with 8 million before he did his knee, to compare him with Simpleson and Willoh is mind boggling.

Douglas is a good player for sure hope we sign him and he will prove you wrong, highly unlikely though, as personally Pardrip has already stated he is pinning his hopes on our season on Saylor, wonder how fat he is when he comes back in. Big Xmas on the drink i would imagine, his man boobs might be a little embarrassing.

Fancy us getting turned over 4-2 again, Cisse with a couple of Goals.

    Krul
    Debuchy Willo Collo Santon
    Perch Jonas
    Anita Marv Obertan

Jesper – Im not seeing the squad until the weekend but I’ve got my duck tape and shipping container all ready to bring the Kone back with me via freight! :-)

TS – To be honest I can’t see why. I don’t believe the management favour Remy. The rehabilitation setup at the club isn’t brilliant (when compared to England) and they rushed him back I feel. He came back – struggled for form and is now overlooked. His goals print record over the years has been very very good. My personal opinion is, the club know he wants to come to us, he stated that to the club during the summer, and this has had an impact in his playing time this season.

The lad is class, no doubt about it.

The truth is he plays either. As well as down the middle. Very adaptable and more than comfortable on either wing. I read that there is an argument for PEA over Remy as PEA plays on the left, Remy right, won’t fit with HBA etc etc. The truth is, BOTH players can adapt to either side. And lets not forget, so can HBA. They are both very fluid players and whilst they might prefer a certain wing, they are more than accomplished on both.

Good. I like people who will change their view if different evidence comes to light. Never get why people complain when people change their mind if things change. It’s not fickle it’s just assessing what is in front of you.

I was a big pardew fan last year, thought we were slightly too negative but over looked that due to results and the fighting spirit.

I am waiting til the end of the season. Not aiming for a certain league position as a definite target as we never know what injuries we will have. I’ll assess it based on what I see on the pitch with what is available.

I do think pardew is lucky though. A lot of clubs would have sacked the manager by now so hopefully he will come good

  • 259 Sir Braveheart // Jan 8, 2013 at 11:05 PM

My source says a new player will be signed by Saturday but not in time to play against Norwich. Newcastle will go for Remy but if they cant convince him by the end of Wednesday they’ll go after their second choice who may not actually be REA but someone from Spain.

CB is the next target but hasnt gone beyond the shortlist and phonecall to check possibility of the clubs selling just yet. A player will be signed but not until the week beginning the 2st Jan, probably closer to Wednesday apparantly. Word is Douglas isnt in the running, Mirin is but the club expect to lose out to Liverpool on that one. Theres also an as yet unnamed french CB the club may go for at around 4m, but I didnt get a name.

Simpson will be sold because Ashley wont let him leave for nothing after he refused a solid contract offer (Ashleys pissed at Simpson). Santon wont be.

This is all just rumour and speculation from my source, Im not stating it as fact because plans change, but my source is usually reliable. Worth sticking a fiver on but not much more than that at this point.

    bills-son

Santon’s runs to the box were one of the few weapons we had over this last month. Probably why Pardew said hell with it.

Good point though, I’d prefer if he kept to the wing and crossed them in, rather than delegating that to Simmo who couldn’t cross with consistency.

Baines is the only one off the top that probably makes those runs as much as Santon and still tracks back, but I’m pretty sure the guy is on meth so won’t bother him much.

Does anyone know whether away tickets can be bought from the NUFC offical website without being a club member or a season ticket holder? Do the away tickets ever go on general sale? Looking to buy tickets to Aston Villa Away.

  • 274 Blaydon-Toon // Jan 8, 2013 at 11:49 PM

Anyone got a spare ticket for Norwich game I’m only an hour from there !?

  • 275 Mister Tuff // Jan 8, 2013 at 11:53 PM

If Sir Bravehearts info is correct about not getting a CB until the week starting 21st? January – we are therefore clearly trying to blag our way through the next two games Norwich on 12th and Reading on 19th. with the defenders we already have. (Return of Saylor). After the Reading game there is a 10 day gap to the Villa game on the 29th then Chelsea on 2nd Feb.
If we lose points in the next two games due to central defender errors -there can be no excuses. It will be a gamble that cannot be forgiven.
Again that is assuming Sir Bravehearts chronology/info is correct.

  • 276 Mister Tuff // Jan 8, 2013 at 11:57 PM

Just noticed there is a chance that Saylor will not start against Norwich.

    Tuff,

Hopefully they will both be pencilled in for the following game (cabs & saylor)

  • 278 89Norcal // Jan 9, 2013 at 12:00 AM

I agree Mister Tuff, now’s not the time to get the sweet deal. Right now our backline looks like they could concede 3 to a League 2 side. Losing to Norwich and Reading would be disastrous imo. Especially when this is arguably our easiest stretch of games left in the season

  • 282 toonboyjake // Jan 9, 2013 at 12:33 AM

Evening guys, long term reader, rare poster, found out a couple of interesting things today whilst at work speaking to a guy that comes in. Turns out he’s an agent and represents none other than xisco! Told me that xisco is trying to leave the club and there trying to get him to the mls, also told me another one of his players(Carlton cole) was offered to Newcastle and they were told nufc aren’t looking to sign anyone over 24. Not major news but thought I’d share what I heard

  • 283 gfp13 // Jan 9, 2013 at 12:39 AM

The news on cabaye n saylor being close to playing is good. Maybe they are fit and pardew is saying they aren’t gonna make it so then fans dont expect them to be playing only to find out on the day that they are there. That would give the crowd an extra lift seeing saylor starting (or more importantly, willo not) and especially cabaye in the middle. He hasn’t been so good this year but it’s probably linked to the broken promise of debuchy signing. Now he’s signed cabaye will perk up I imagine. Also we don’t have another player who matches his role quite the same so with him missing our whole midfield tactic has to be changed to fit in others

  • 284 dazza1980 // Jan 9, 2013 at 12:48 AM

Another one ov cashleys rules about older players which is a joke he won’t sign a player that he wont b to sell on for a profit later on a fear for our club as long as hes here but as long as the support is there nd the tops r selling what does he care hes a business man not a supporter

  • 285 gfp13 // Jan 9, 2013 at 12:53 AM

Also on Signing Douglas. I’d be happy bringing him in on a free in the summer if we got another cb this month and for him to be back up next season. And with rumours of colo leaving, if they were to be true I’d like mbiwa as his replacement. I haven’t seen much of him but from what I have seen he seems calm on the ball and looks able to defend too. Similar in style to rio Ferdinand but like I say I haven’t seen much of mbiwa so could be wrong on his style, but from what I have he seems too similar in being comfortable with the ball and taking people on at the back like colo that having both may not be a good partnership, but sakho and mbiwa I see as being a great deal better but the rumours of an all blue strip with trims of white n red may start to arise if we sign those 2 plus sissoko and remy

We have no chance of getting Pep. Nobody wants to work under Ashley. That and he’d be on 10 million a year.

  • 292 sied // Jan 9, 2013 at 6:03 AM

If we can buy Douglas, Remy it would be a great transfer window.

    1st team
    krul
    debuchy.colo.doug.santon
    cabaye.tiote.marveux
    ben arfa.cisse.remy
    sub
    elliot
    simpson.willo.saylor.raylor
    anita.bigiri.perchino
    obertan.shola.gutierez

and just hope injuries does not spoil our season!!!

  • 293 cyprus // Jan 9, 2013 at 6:41 AM

AP, please don’t count on Saylor as anything more than a stop gap. He’s 25 and has played 25 times (I made up this stat to prove my point). Better to transform Shola into a CB:
Ideal set up, as we stand:
    Krul,
    Deb, Shola, Colo, Sant.,
    Marv., Cabs, Anita, Tiote, Guti,
    Cisse.
Come on AP, I know you read me :)
    Try this and safety beckons!

  • 294 IITianToon // Jan 9, 2013 at 6:45 AM

Where does Guti come into the side? SUrely not left of the front 3!
I would prefer this if indeed he plays at NOrwich:
    Krul
    Debuch–Willo(sobsob)–Colo-Santon
    ANita-Guti
    Obertan-Marv-Fergie(who else i cant figure)
    Cisse

Assuming Perch,Cabs and Saylor arent playing.

  • 295 cyprus // Jan 9, 2013 at 6:48 AM

Ober will not cut it. He still has not actually dribbled past a single player in two years… Fergie may grow into the role, not ready yet…

  • 296 Assam Toon // Jan 9, 2013 at 6:50 AM

yossi benayoun is likely to leave chelsea. we could have asked for him as exchange in the ba deal. we can still consider buying him in that wide role…should we?

  • 303 cyprus // Jan 9, 2013 at 7:50 AM

Oops, forgot HBA in my @290 set up. Given current form, he’d go on the right, Marv, left, and Guti benched to come on second half for whoever’s not in the mood.

  • 304 Novocastrian66 // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:04 AM

Definitely quiet. Ed has normally knocked out about half a dozen threads by now. Calm before the storm perhaps?

  • 305 HullMag6 // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:08 AM

Shola to cb not that daft an idea Cyprus and can’t fault the formation either.

Simmo out, get Pieters in – versatile lb/cb, mates with Krul and Anita.

Get a cb if not two in this window theyre needed a well imo.

  • 306 HullMag6 // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:15 AM

Maybe novo, lets hope so in a good way.

  • 307 Novocastrian66 // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:18 AM

    Aye canny idea that Shola at centre half. Beside the fact that;
    1. He cannot head the ball.
    2. Cannot tackle.
    3. Fouls consistently.
    4. Hasn’t got a clue what is happening around him.
    5. Any forward with the minimum amount of movement would lose him instantly.
    6. Instead of always being off side he would always play the opposition onside.

  • 308 Novocastrian66 // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:21 AM

Not unlike Williamson actually, when I think about it.

  • 309 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:26 AM

    Novocastrian66
Best assessment of Shola I have read in ages. Made me laugh.

Shola at his best is a twenty minute cameo at the end of a game when the opposition is tiring.

Got my goat up last week against Everton when Cisse chipped the last defender for him to run on but could’nt be bothered to get his arse into gear to to chase after.

  • 310 mindshaft // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:29 AM

Haha – shola at cb would be a disaster – forwards would just love it

  • 311 Novocastrian66 // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:30 AM

  • 312 mindshaft // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:31 AM

@novo – spot on with shola assessment

  • 314 HullMag6 // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:36 AM

Actually now I’ve woken up, might be right about Shola imagine him as last man – stuff of nightmares worse than normal position.

  • 317 WesJameson // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:43 AM

Finally found something decent about the Toon, worth reading…Our young CB Curtis Good, was in the starting lineup for Bradford VS Villa and won….what do you know, he might be the only person, in this squad who might win something!!

  • 318 Novocastrian66 // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:44 AM

Hull, divvent worry about it, he has conned countless managers into giving him new contracts.

  • 319 Novocastrian66 // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:50 AM

I like Agbonlahor. Seems to have hit the buffers recently. Craic is he has stopped training as hard and is on easy street. Shame really.

  • 320 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:54 AM

agbonlahor is not the player he used to be. he’s pretty useless now. how old is he?

  • 321 tequilamag // Jan 9, 2013 at 8:55 AM

Ba got slated for lack of loyalty, Shola has been a one club man and just gave up his only chance of playing international tournament football to play for his team.
Don`t let that stop you though, you are all clearly better players than him, you must of all just slipped through the scouting net..

@tequila we did. not tall enough you see.
i once heard that shola was called up by sbr because he was talented but mostly because of his high stamina level. none of the other youth could go for 90+ mins. there were more talented kids but they couldn’t keep going for a whole match while shola could.

  • 324 Pardews Perfect Battleplan // Jan 9, 2013 at 9:04 AM

    @sazzer and last lol

  • 325 tequilamag // Jan 9, 2013 at 9:06 AM

PPB, Shola was never going to be another Shearer, and he is not the quickest, but this whole laziness thing is a bit of a myth in my opinion.

  • 326 Novocastrian66 // Jan 9, 2013 at 9:14 AM

Howay Tequilamag stop getting touchy. You must not confuse loyalty with having no choice. I’m not aware of any club bigger or better than Newcastle making an offer for him.
If Shola was offered £90k per week at another club do you think he would stay at Newcastle? No chance. He’s still here because no-one else wants him.
I cannot understand how he is still a professional footballer. Oh by the way I was nowhere near as good as Shola, but I have played with and against players who were but did not get the breaks in life he has had.
Good luck to the lad, I don’t blame him for taking what’s been put in front of him, but please don’t feed me the loyalty bull.

  • 327 tequilamag // Jan 9, 2013 at 9:20 AM

Novo, if he was as bad as you say why does every manager we had continue to play him? We were not forced to offer him new contracts. there has been plenty of others shipped out who were not good enough.

Tequila, I don’t know, I’ve asked myself the same question. Oh and it’s not a myth. Shola is idol, I have witnessed this with my own eyes.
On the other-hand I’ve not seen the Loch Ness monster which is a myth.
