We’ve been linked with St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang since last November, and it seems he is one backup Newcastle could turn to if they fail to bring in their top target Loic Remy.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – St. Etienne Gabon International
A Newcastle delegation was in South France over the weekend, and obviously they would have been doing some work to try to get Loic Remy through the door, but there are also other French targets that Newcastle have been linked with, and the 23 year-old Gabon International is one of them.
This player started his career with AC Milan back in 2007, and has never played for the first team but was sent out on loan to various clubs, before he signed on at St. Etienne in December of 2011 after being on loan all that year.
The 6’1″ striker has appeared 64 times for St. Etienne with 28 goals and Tottenham and Manchester United are two clubs also said to be watching the 26 times capped Gabon International.
And it seems the 23 year-old would be willing to join Newcastle as a source close to the player had this to say top the Evening Chronicle::
“He is aware of Newcastle’s interest and likes the idea. He was planning on staying at St Etienne until at least the end of the season.” “If there was a bid, though, he owes it to himself to listen.”
But with Newcastle having only one experienced striker available for the game at Norwich on Saturday, surely we need to get another striker through the door as soon as possible.
There was some good news about Shola Ameobi yesterday, and Nigeria will not take any action against the player after he didn’t want to join the Nigerian squad for the African Cup of Nations – pressed into it no doubt by the club.
And it seems that one sub appearance against Venezuela in November in Miami, when he looked so good as a late substitute, could be his first and only International appearance in his career.

Comment #3Numba9 – Not as much as you’d think mate. If it was purely about money – he’d have already gone to QPR. For Remy – the importance is settling in and feeling welcome and valued by management, team mates and fans!
Morning TADS. Just lucky I have a great job that allows me to hear info. This weekend my plan is to ‘tap up’ Lamine Koné when I visit and work with L’Orient.
Only messing – like id make a difference! He’s a big unit though. A proper centre half I would say!

Comment #5What can Nigeria do…legally that is?
…if Shalo (that’s what I call him now ;)) doesn’t want to go! or if he has a clause that keeps him from going. We all know how clauses work now don’t we lol
What’s here to discuss? Other than the ACON should probably be moved to fit better into the FIFA Internationl calender (it’s the only major tournament left which isn’t played in the summet). Sepp Blatter wants this too happen by 2015. Most say I agree!
Have been watching the ACON for the last two tournaments and I do understand that it’s an honor for any African to represent his country, but at the same time there so many questionable apects to it. I won’t go into them here since that was not the point with my comment 🙂

Comment #7younger, cheaper, not injury prone, more versatile and creative.
We should be like chelsea and just have an option like one of torres or ba not both, ie one goal scorer who can come off the bench to replace another number 9

Comment #8Week into transfer window and I’m already very impatient. They should have been sitting in France on first day of window more than eagerly wanting to get all the players signed up.

Comment #10Very similar to Remy. Prob come a bit cheaper which might appeal to MA! 🙂
Wouldn’t say he is a back up, personally I think either of these would be a great acquisition. The lad oozes flair and some of his play is ‘Brazilian’ in its execution.
He also warms up in Diamond encrusted Nike Mercurial vapor football boots!! Don’t get much ‘flair’ than that!! 🙂

Comment #11Sad for Shola that we couldn’t let him go. Someone need to slay those Mackem investments in Africa. I guess Tiote will do.

Comment #13Assam – I very much doubt it mate. I think the club would rather spend more initial outlay to increase overall sell on value (I hate to say it) so whereas Lescott would come cheap, his wages would no doubt be ridiculous, and he has no sell on value. Better money to be spent elsewhere I think.

Comment #23remy will suit better as he can play on the wing and let cisse time in the centre to find his form again, cisse overall play has been improving last couple of matches, better first touch and passing than last season though it can still improve more hopefully
