If Remy Moves At All – It Will Only Be To Newcastle

10:28 am, Thursday, January 10th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 182 Comments

The Evening Chronicle (Lee Ryder) is reporting potentially good news today, that Loic Remy will only move to Newcastle United, if he moves at all in January. There was news both yesterday and today that Loic Remy may just stay put at Marseilles, and we know Newcastle are going to put in a bid for the player in the next couple of days, but it seems the French striker is not interested in moving to either Schalke 04 or Burussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga – who are also interested in acquiring the player.

loic remy 987

Loic Remy – told close friends he will only move to Newcastle

Apparently Loic has told close friends that his most likely destination this January will be Newcastle United, if he does make a move.

But it also seems this move could be held up because Newcastle and Marseilles cannot agree a fee, and Newcastle fans will be frustrated if that happens (again), because that was the main reason we couldn’t get Mathieu Debuchy to the club last summer.

Certainly Newcastle have not given up hope on the 17 times capped French International, although there have been many conflicting reports over the last couple of days, about what the real situation is with Remy.

And it seems Remy is pals with not only Yohan Cabaye, but also with former Newcastle left-back Olivier Bernard, and Olivier had this to say today:

“I don’t think he will move to Germany.” “I think he will come here or stay in Marseilles.”

It’s hard to know what the real situation is with Loic Remy, but we’d be very happy to be surprised and have the player sign on at Newcastle soon, and if that happens it will give the manager, the players and the fans a huge boost.

  • 4 outsidethebox // Jan 10, 2013 at 10:35 AM

all the talk about remy cb is main area
talk of tompkins boyatao and pieters although it would relieve cb problem dosent disguise the fact that what is need is a captain (eng if poss ) someone to win ball in air… do not know who though …only know no one mentioned fits the bill…

  • 5 tequilamag // Jan 10, 2013 at 10:36 AM

I know it is frustrating waiting for signings but so far there have only been 5 transfers made in the PL. Have a bit of patience, they will come.

  • 6 Transfer Sage // Jan 10, 2013 at 10:37 AM

    tequila

or maybe remy just told joey he wasnt going as no bids were made other than QPR and he said he wasn’t going anywhere because currently he has no other offers.

The amount of time you hear…X is a done deal or Y isn’t for sale at any price and then the opposite happens shows talk is cheap and things change quickly.

  • 7 Graeme // Jan 10, 2013 at 10:38 AM

The biggest obstacle to us recruiting players of any quality, in the positions we are so desperately lacking, would appear to be the Negotiator we have in charge of the process.

I’m sure Lambsarse must have been at least highly competent in his “Day Job” to get where he did; He just seems to have no idea how to operate in the field he now chooses to work in. HE is a bigger square peg, in a round hole, than any of the players we put on the pitch!!

The “Peter Principal” being lived out, in full technicolour, at NUFC!! What a shambles.

A big strong commanding centre back is needed but not as much as a new centre forward.
If cisse gets injured we would be in big trouble shoals can only play half a game.
Ranger never looks like scoring and Campbell is untested.

Lee Ryder has to toe the part line with Newcastle as the Chron sells more papers through it`s Newcastle coverage than anything else.
Mick Lowes works for the radio and I see him as being able to be more independent

I would say a CB is higher priority for me but both are needed in Jan, not one or the other.

I think Campbell would be a revelation ala rooney, owen, sterling, etc but we wont find out as we persist with Nile ‘gangsta’ Ranger.

  • 21 TorqToon // Jan 10, 2013 at 10:50 AM

Outside the box – Yanga – Mbiwa is more than capable to fulfil that brief mate! (Apart from the being English bit!)

  • 22 Mister Tuff // Jan 10, 2013 at 10:50 AM

TorqToon – that would be very good news about a possible delegation to Montpellier. I’ll jump for joy if the target is Belhanda. I did a post on him a couple of months ago – a terrific player. I think it was yesterday a couple of the lads mentioned him and one described a bit of his “bad boy” image and that if he came to the Toon Percy Parsnip would be driven to a heart attack. I had this momentary naughty thought of thinking -sign him up straight away. Montpellier are supposed to want to sell him -there has be alleged interest from Fenerbahce -but this has been denied. If he’s on the shopping list excellent.

Joe hit refresh on your phone mate lol

  • 24 Mister Tuff // Jan 10, 2013 at 10:56 AM

I see Belhanda is currently away with Morocco at ACON.

  • 25 TorqToon // Jan 10, 2013 at 10:57 AM

Tuff – Belhanda has the same sort of reputation that a certain Hatem Ben Arfa had throughout the French league. And he’s not done badly for this club.

If it was my money – is stick in say £15mil offer for both players (Belhanda and Mbiwa) and say ‘take it or leave it’. I think that could be enough to bag both players at its not why I would call ‘breaking the bank’!

Unfortunately it’s NOT my money…! If only! :-)

Outside the box – I agree. We lack true leadership this season in the form of a Nolan, shearer and dare I say – Barton?!

It would put the cat amongst the pigeons but Mbiwa could be a future skipper of this side once language issues has been resolved. :-)

Of our current crop, I always feel Stevie T bleeds black and white but we can’t seem to get him on te park for any length of time.

It’s a tough one. Don’t want to completely write off Colo – I just think he needs more leaders around him.

  • 31 TorqToon // Jan 10, 2013 at 11:05 AM

Frankfurt – you have a link for that?

Would be amazing but maybe too costly. I know Chelsea were offered him a month or so ago but since signed Ba who was much cheaper. Great goalscorer but possibly just putting 2&2 together.

    Would cost £16-17mil.

Torq – taking advantage of another teams predicament – well I never, whatever next!! Our club is managed by honourable people, we would never do such a thing!!

Unless of course somebody actually told them there was an opportunity to be had – they probably wouldn’t even know!!

  • 40 croftus5678 // Jan 10, 2013 at 11:21 AM

    @torq

i completely agree with mbiwa and stevie t
taylor was always my future captain as he had so much passion just think the injury had an impact on him and i’m hopeing time will solve it.
collo will always be a great defender but too much pressure is on him as our other defenders are not top class and i think his confidence and the fact he hasnt really had a break or a good run of results is showing.

Dont think it matters if players are away on international duty. We signed Cisse while he was at Acon. Ed love the job you are doing, keep it up. There is a problem when we post from our phones, always says error but posts it anyway, minor glitch but would be handy if it was sorted.

And he reflected: “I need to get my best players out there, and that’s where I’m at.

“If they’re not to be ready for Norwich, then we have to make sure they’re on the pitch for Reading.

“Then we go to the next game.

a few players we could realistically get ! will not cost a lot have wages within our cap and are 99% guarenteed to make a profit for sell on value and improve our team by a hell of a lot are :
    moussa sissoko
    mbiwa
    and douglas (suspect attitude)
could potentially get all 3 at a cheap ish price and sissoko will be perfect in the tiote role with less free kicks given away leading to goals conceeded :-(

  • 59 Krul to be Kind // Jan 10, 2013 at 11:49 AM

I’d rather have Soldado at Valencia than Negredo from Sevilla, far more complete player and probs around the same price, Valencia are in financial straits so at a decent price too.

The only bonus about Negredo is the precedent set by the FA that anyone who says his name out loud gets an 8 game ban! ;-)

  • 65 curmon // Jan 10, 2013 at 11:57 AM

The reason for our inability to sign players is down to the experience and mentality of Ashley and dumbarse, they have existed in a world where they have always had loads of cash available and called all the shots because they held the whip hand in a buyers market, similarly when they sold Carrol they were in control and were selling to a desperate and stupid buyer. Now they are in the unfamilar position where they need the player and they are in the weaker position, this is a position that they cannot handle and attempt to portray themselves as being in the stronger negotiating position, which they are not. This is why their attempts at signing players are protracted and quite often end in failure.

i have said that many times, we are in no position to get players cheep,we are in a worse position because other clubs can see what we need, supply and demand, they used that tact to get as much money for carrol,, now its pay back time

it looks like the debuchy deal in the summer was a joke, he has went back to the club with his tail between his legs and paid them what they wanted,,

im not so sure what the problem is with the remi deal,, to many stories going around, just 2 days ago germany was his 1st choice, now its only newcastle if he moves, then we hear that the 2 clubs are well apart on the valuation,,

lets just move on,, please,, de jong all over

  • 75 Munster Mag // Jan 10, 2013 at 12:16 PM

Curmon , good point. If we dont get players in ( well done on Debuch, but did it really have to take so long? I’ll bet if some team like Swansea or Fulham had wanted him in the summer, they would have got him quickly ) , plenty of MA lovers are going to have a lot of egg on their faces. And as for droning Pardew’s latest drip feed, spare me. Take some responsibility man! Bad formations, parbering to Ba, useless free kicks and corners, no away victors , no morale for comebacks. Believe me, logic suggests we have far more issues than whetehr HBA and Cabaye. We had HBS a lot, and totally over-relied on him.

Again I’ll say it – Llambias seems more focused on keeping the PL in credit than spending money on a risk-based investment that could pay dividends in the medium to long term.

they both have key positions,, one to get players and sell the club

the other to train the players and get the best out of those we have

  • 97 Transfer Sage // Jan 10, 2013 at 12:31 PM

I’d say llambias is a moron.

But in theory we should spend a lot this coming summer. We are currently breaking even as accounts say…so when we get an extra 20mil in TV rights that can go to transfers…so maybe 15mil of that can be spent on players…rest fees and other things.

Also if sports direct paid for the advertising they get or we sold it off to some other company that could generate more money.

  • 98 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 10, 2013 at 12:33 PM

PPB because it Ashley he wont bring any1 in he probably thinks there training compensation cost to much or maybe there wage budget has increased by 10%

  • 99 Transfer Sage // Jan 10, 2013 at 12:35 PM

    black and white

the problem is though is that Ashley has a lot of his money tied up in his assets…ie. sports direct and newcastle united so it isn’t free to spend as he wishes

Whilst I agree he could spend more or even arrange reasonable finance to spend…not silly amounts but another 5-15mil in the summer and we would have been much better off now I think.

But only chairmen like man city’s or chelsea’s actually has serious money to spend….the rest do not.

Man utd and liverpool spend money the club makes….huge world wide fan base and commercial deals.

Arsenal spend what they make too, selling everyone and champs league money.

Spurs have sold a lot over the last 5 years, not a huge net spend on transfers.

  • 100 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 10, 2013 at 12:36 PM

TS do you honestly think Cashley will spend the TV rights next season on players i 100% dont think so.

  • 101 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 10, 2013 at 12:36 PM

    TS…we almost break even ;)

…do we get that much more wonga next season from the new TV deal? Nice :) (player and agent fees are probably going to go up then)

SD should definitely pay like any other decent company for advertisement (still think this is something that should be investigated – I do think it’s borderline criminal since it undermines other businesses that has too pay)

  • 102 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 10, 2013 at 12:36 PM

You have to spend money to make money in the football game and the sooner Ashley and co realise this the better for everyone. Not expecting him to drop 100 million quid like its soare change but a decent investment of 20 mill could get us Alderwireld, Doumbia, Sissoko and a young striker. With those players we would have a team level quality wise with Spurs and could regularly challenge for the top 4. Yes our squad may still be a little thin but that can be solved over time.

Nothing illegal about it I’m afraid…..he is just using one business to advertise the other which is fine legally.

That is one issue which annoys me…not sure of the figures but we must be losing out on some money, no matter how little it would be.

The other things is Ashley being a savior for lending130mil of his own money to wipe the debt…all well and good but the interest payments would have hurt him as nufc is now his company…he really just did himself a favour. Good day all,

TS….On the interest free loan. Yes it suits both Ashley and the club, but where it is of more benefit to the “club” and not Ashley personally is that he could easily put interest on it to remove money from the club, he hasn’t.

I have always just assumed that the SD advertisements are sort of a write off for the interest, so it’s not really free as the club is missing out on advertising money. So not really doing anyone any great favours, nor is it doing anything too detrimental. That’s my view anyway.

he owns 100% of nufc, and if csh flow was tight, he should concetrate on the one he owns 100% he stands to lose more with us than rangers

I think what it is with Ashley is it’s not an emotional project for him. Most wealthy people have many business interests and each must stand on their own two feet, you should never rob Peter to pay Paul, that’s business 101.

After that we’re talking about personal funds, which Ashley has made more than clear he will not pump in to the club.

Rangers is just an investment opportunity and is hardly his last bit of cash. so I doubt highly it’s a case of him investing in that so no money left for Newcastle. He just doesn’t want to put more in to the club.

I guess he thinks he’s put £130m (approx) in already, soon the club will be making money, not losing it, then of course there is extra money coming in as of next season. He clearly took a gamble to ride this season out without putting more of his own money in waiting for that payday which would allow the club to finance it’s own business (or repay some money to ashley…tick tock, we will see).

It seems and I hope he’s realised he may need to front some of that himself this window or his “master plan” may likely fail.

This window and next summer, for me, will be huge tell tale signs of his intentions for this club. Are we being made self sufficient to grow or just to get in to a position where the club can pay back Ashley?

  • 126 Klam3r // Jan 10, 2013 at 1:01 PM

In a norwegian newspapir we’re linked with former Rosenborg player Skjelbred again, though Norwich is leading the race. He didn’t make it in Germany, his price would be low and it sounds like a deal the two clowns on top would go for.
At least he’s a big Newcastle-fan. That must count for something :)

  • 127 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 10, 2013 at 1:06 PM

TS….He could have set it up so the interest accumulates over time and as and when the club has money, he personally would gain.

I’m not sure what the set up is officially at the club etc, but personally he would gain by charging us interest in the long run – well at least with my limited knowledge he would.

As I said though, i’ve just put it down as a write off against the SD signs and could only speculate as to whether one outweighs the other or not.

I also think we need to take into account that Carr scouts players and presents them to Pardew. Then they draw up a list and present it to Lamearse or Ashley (maybe both).

…now I don’t know how long that list is, but id Debuchy was on top of it it the summer I assume or hope there was a second and third choice as well.

Isn’t it a combined effort to decide then to move on from your first choice – if the objective is to get a player in that position before the transfer window shuts then you need to move down the list.

Ashley will spend the money if it’s a good deal for the club (then he needs to be presented with a good deal – we did save £2M or so on Debuchy) If we were not were we are at the moment I would probably think everyone at the top would be pleased with them self.

Think our problem is we play hardball in player valuations. In the past we would not budge, which leads to us fans being disgruntled. NUFC has suffered this season because of this reluctance in the summer.

This window has got to be different though, and they all know that upstairs. Even Pardew has came out and said & lowes touched upon this in his interview last night.

We are going to have to pay a little more than we would like this window, that said, we will not be taking for total mugs. I have faith this window, but my worry isn’t with negotiations. Its with our targets. I dont want to see us chasing one lad all month, I want to see names over the line.

much easier to tie up deals when you don’t need to worry about a few million here and there…plus being man utd has a huge pull so 99% of players want to go if there is interest.

Also they probably have better people doing negotiations than llambias.

As I said before, when running a club on a small/limited budget you need to spend the money well. A good way for us to spend the money would be to sack llambias and replace him with somebody with a lot of experience in this area.

Same way we have a great chief scout to make sure we identify the best players available to us we need a great MD to make sure we then get these or at least give us the best chance of getting them.

Mapou Yanga Mbiwa – 23 year old – Centre back, could play anywhere in the back line, and arguably holding midfielder if needed. Reported £6m I would guess closer to £9m. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mapou_Yanga-Mbiwa

Moussa Sissoko – 22 year old – Centre midfield. Accomplished midfielder defensivley and offensively, strong tackling and tall. Similar playing style to Patrick Vieira. We dont need midfielders but for the reported £2-4m I would buy him sooner, rather than later. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moussa_Sissoko

Douglas – 24 year old (soon to be 25 in upcoming days) – Central defender. Tall defender, arguably the best defender in the dutch league. Worth the punt, certainly better than Williamson and has approx 6 month on his contract. Available for approx £2m or free if we wait until the summer. Arguably need players now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Franco_Teixeira

I would then buy a AL/Striker, arguably Remy but I feel he hasnt really come back from his injury so is a risk. I am undecided who I would buy for this role.

TS – Point taken but if a player drags his feet, you move quickly onto the next one. There are loads of good players out there and certainly better than we have, especially at Centre Back.

#147 Indian – Has he really said that, my god! It could be all over by the end of Jan, i really think if we lose these winnable games in jan we have a very good chance of going down ffs!

    Ibiza
Haha Debuchy must start surely and Cabs may get 10 minutes towards the end imo very much looking forward to the game now

just back from a break in tenerife- and i must say, never been so embarrassed in all my life. taking so much stick off everyone was the worst i have experienced. – even fans from the lower leagues were hoping we beat brighton so that they could play us in the next round- what a joke-fans throwing their shirts in the sea, seen nothing like it.
All in all our second string were not good enough to beat a campionship side – if pards, or anyone for that matter think its going to get better when our so called stars come back- they are in for a shock the only person who can save us is ashley- give pards his P-45 NOW.

Following reports Marouane Fellaini has a buy-out clause in his contract, Chelsea have been backed in to 5/4 from 9/4 over the past 24 hours to sign the Belgian from Everton this month.

    NUFC 50/1 – Bit generous, no? :)

  • 159 Transfer Sage // Jan 10, 2013 at 1:50 PM

    hotdog

would depend on how far down your list you want to go..maybe 2nd and 3rd choice but not much lower than that really

also if the manager is happy to wait for the player to be cheaper instead of get the alternative that could slow things up.

  • 160 Indian Magpie // Jan 10, 2013 at 1:50 PM

    Hotdog,

if you think by reading game, all players may be back and then he may say we dont need new signings

  • 161 pawl250 // Jan 10, 2013 at 1:50 PM

If Santon was to leave, I would take a chance on Aly Cissokho. He has a similar build to Santon, although Santon looks like he has been settling the last 2 games, Everton and Arsenal he has been at fault for goals conceded.

He would arguably be better in an attacking role. I feel he would suit left midfield or attacking left midfield more so than he would left back. He would also offer some decent cover for a left back considering his experience in the position allowing them to swap during games, and pass each other on the attack providing options, while the other holds back in the defensive role.

  • 164 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 10, 2013 at 1:53 PM

Ibiza…how can you separate the two?

…you always have to buy more players than we do – preferably more expansive as well, but when we have the amount of injuries we have (which is not worse than so many other teams) then we clearly need to buy a whole lot more players (and remember of high quality)

…they simply go hand in hand (remember most of this will be in hindsight, but that should be an excuse :) ) lol

Even I am a tightass – I just wanted that CB when everyone wanted half a new team (who am I kidding here, it’s all Simmo and Willo’s fault!)

  • 165 Joe1987 // Jan 10, 2013 at 1:54 PM

Right lads, just say Mick Lowes is right and we do bring in another 4 new faces? Who u think they will be? Can imagine there will a signing that noone has mentioned yet.

yea than can tricky standing on the floor trying to tighten top bolt

  • 169 pawl250 // Jan 10, 2013 at 1:59 PM

    Joe1987 -

I currently have a comment awaiting for moderation regarding this but my 4 preferred players would be

    Moussa Sissoko
    Mapou Yanga Mbiwa
    Douglas
and a Striker/Attacking Midfield player, left footed if possible.

    I think we will get

    Douglas
    James Tomkins
    Moussa Sissoko
    ? (who knows!)

and I cant see Remy coming.

  • 170 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 10, 2013 at 1:59 PM

Yo….Aye, I think this Debuchy lad is a little better than Simmo with a broken toe :)

Stuart….So you’re holiday hasn’t changed your feelings then? Hope you managed to enjoy your break somewhat.

  • 171 ronjohno // Jan 10, 2013 at 2:01 PM

Where is the “list of players” we have always heard so much about. This list is supposedly to come into force in any given transfer window. Yet when it comes to the crunch all we hear is NUFC scratting around potentail markets.
I thought the groundwork had already been done and all it needed was to put in offers when the time came.
Also can never understand how other clubs seem to do immediate business but our transfers seem to just go on and on.

  • 172 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 10, 2013 at 2:02 PM

Jesper….You’re not grasping this….there can only be one reason for our plight, pick one or do one :)

    John Tudor…Sorry, what?

  • 173 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 10, 2013 at 2:04 PM

Ibiza…then lack of transfer activity will always prevail ;)

..it’s the ultimate excuse (it can always be used in your favor…especially in hindsight)

  • 174 Pardews Parsnip Bonce // Jan 10, 2013 at 2:06 PM

@Joe that’s why im naming a random player every day. maybe ill get one right and b itk

  • 175 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 10, 2013 at 2:06 PM

    Ibiza…exactly ;) lol

  • 177 ?Miguel? // Jan 10, 2013 at 2:08 PM

I put my house on it we have a new player in by reading (h).

  • 178 Joe1987 // Jan 10, 2013 at 2:09 PM

Pawl250…I think Tomkins is comin as well, not preferred choice but got 2 b better than what we have. As for a forward, dnt think we’ll get Remy or PEA, wouldn’t mind MA proving me wrong tho.
