Moussa Sissoka Available For £3.5M – Newcastle Interested?

4:24 pm, Thursday, January 10th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 28 Comments

News today that Toulouse will make their 22 year-old central midfield French International Moussa Sissoko available for £3.5M in January.

Moussa Sissoko – available for £3.5M

While that’s still a good price to pay for the talented 22 year-old, he could be brought in for nothing during the summer, since he becomes a free agent when his contract runs out on June 30th.

And there’s no doubt that Newcastle have been keen on this player for a while now,  and have had him watched this season, since Newcastle are well aware he will become a free agent soon.

One advantage of this player is that he used to play as a defensive midfielder, but he has started to play more as the attacking midfielder, and the skills he has makes him into a creative and powerful midfielder, which is something that Newcastle have been missing big time, since Yohan Cabaye has been out injured.

Sissoko was unfairly compared to the great Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira when he was younger, and he has recently been compared to West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame, who has done very well in the Premier League.

Sissoko is not the finished article yet, we know that,  but he has great potential which could potentially be unlocked at Newcastle.

But on the downside, we think the way the Newcastle Board thinks these days,  we find it hard to think that Newcastle would pay out £3.5M for Sissoko in January,  when he could be available for nothing in the summer.

Of course he may not be available this summer, if another club comes in for him at a bargain basement price of £3.5M.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens before February rolls around.

Comments welcome.

bong….Valenciennes president Jean-Raymond Legrand told le10sport.com: “Newcastle are very interested, they have made an offer. We will wait and see. But I will not sell players unless I can replace them.”

Him and gouffran are the best players in the French market that are out of contract in the summer. Take a look at gouffrans Wikipedia, not sure if its true but it’s mental if it is.

Alan Pardew’s ongoing bid to boost his defensive options could lead to Valenciennes’ Gaetan Bong, with the French club’s president claiming Newcastle have tabled an offer for the Cameroon left-back.

Despite bringing in France defender Mathieu Debuchy from another Ligue 1 club, Lille, this week, Pardew is still looking to strengthen in the area in order to take some pressure off his established names.

Valenciennes president Jean-Raymond Legrand told le10sport.com: “Newcastle are very interested, they have made an offer. We will wait and see. But I will not sell players unless I can replace them.”

While Pardew continues to be frustrated in his search for a striker to replace the departed Demba Ba, he also alluded today to his defensive concerns.

  • 12 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 10, 2013 at 4:35 PM

So we desperatly need a starting CB so bid for someone, who in pards words, is cover at LB?
Surely get the priority positions sorted so we dont have to watch anymore painful displays with FB’s covering at CB
Oh and ash we dont need sissoko in the summer we need players in now, right now

  • 13 ToonTinka // Jan 10, 2013 at 4:36 PM

All the people slaughtering NUFC in regards to that we are buying nowt this window..

I think its pretty evident the work is being done. And seriously aswell.

Really pleased that we’re actually looking at cover for positions instead of buying adaptable players.

    Excellent news

Does anyone know anything about this lad ?

Tottenham and #Arsenal battle it out for French international midfielder Moussa Sissoko with bargain fee of €3.5m. [L'Equipe]

  • 16 Spreadthetoon // Jan 10, 2013 at 4:40 PM

Unsure that we are keen to sign so many African players given the disruption on ACON….doesn’t make a great deal of sense.
I think Remy deal will happen cos’ NUFC have spent a lot of time on it…….quite frankly we’re short and all agents know that so they’ll have us over a barrel to a certain extent.
Nufc pay cash upfront therefore for players like Sissoko, better to buy now than spend even bigger in the summer in a bidding war.
Noises are 4 or 5 and bearing our woeful summer of last, I think it is plausible we will sign:-
    1 LB
    2 CB
    1 CAM
    1 ST
If we do that, retain our existing squad during the summer then we have settled numbers, and would only probably need just another striker in the summer….possibly PEA.
Wait till summer then we’re more likely to face sterner competition. Besides this to my opinion is only making up for the Board’s lack of spending in the summer and the disgraceful sum invested in our defence over numerous year. Do that and I survive the season, then depending on the quality I could start to get excited again! Fingers crossed eh?

Bong …think that’s what Mike and Derk Lameass have been doing cut the sh@t out and sign some players !!!

  • 18 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 10, 2013 at 4:41 PM

    Toon
Whilst cover is great there are key positions that for me should be tied up first and foremost think the world and his wife know we need a cb and given the amount of time we have known i see no excuse for one not being here already like
Also wish we’d stop signing players who vanish for six months of the season then complain about the ACON to anyone who will listen come january

  • 19 croftus5678 // Jan 10, 2013 at 4:42 PM

yep never heard of this lad or seen him but i trust in our scouts and think pards has this one spot on as santon is looking worn out and the competition for places will be a great thing cover for cups and europe aswell just hope we have him for a steal of a price so we can still affords sissoko/a cb and a striker.

anyone know if sissoko can play cb and he definatly has the reading/tackling/heading/build to be one ?

  • 20 Spoof // Jan 10, 2013 at 4:42 PM

I read its 3.5m Euro’s, which is an even better deal, on a sour note Arsenal are also supposed to be wanting him, if it was a straight choice of us or Arsenal, the chances are we will have to look elsewhere, but we can hope that it happens, but lets not expect it, as we may be disappointed

  • 21 DevonToon // Jan 10, 2013 at 4:50 PM

Apparently bid for this guy aswell Massadio Haidara hes a lb at nancy

  • 22 toonluvva // Jan 10, 2013 at 5:22 PM

MA / DL will not want to pay £3.5M now and guarantee signing Sissoko if they believe that they can just wait until the summer and get him for free. Normally that would be good business, but given our current injury crisis, and there could still be more!, we should sign him up now and not risk losing out in the summer to another club.
    Simples!!

  • 23 Dearka // Jan 10, 2013 at 5:48 PM

if we buy this player we should then offer simpson+money to west ham for Diame so we have this type of center midfield of

    Diame Yohan
    Sissoka

That can def and att to support cisse,

as for Mr T either sale for 25mil or have him fight to play in the first team agian because he need a kick up the butt

  • 24 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 10, 2013 at 5:50 PM

Get Sissoko in and then sign Boudebouz in the summer.

  • 25 geordiesteve520 // Jan 10, 2013 at 6:34 PM

Anyone else think this is bad news? Surely it puts him moreminmthe public eye and alerts more to his availability.

  • 26 chuck // Jan 10, 2013 at 6:37 PM

He would be a bargain @3.5m.
The club will have to pay either way, as he will probably want a signng on fee and a taste for his agent, plus freebies usually demand higher wages.
Works out roughly the same, ensure we get him signed by meeting the now price.

  • 27 Jan Stavik // Jan 10, 2013 at 7:58 PM

3,5m or 0, I guess the board will be thinking… The truth is that anyway, he’ll command a hefty sign on fee – so it won’t be super cheap anyway. He’s a great prospect, bring him and and put some pressure on Tiote. He’s been below par this season, some competition will be good for him

  • 28 SWHITEY // Jan 10, 2013 at 9:58 PM

    Mbwia, sakho, sissoko, remy
    Simples
