Do you really expect development players and fringe players to be able to produce the type of football are senior pro’s can deliver. Its called abilty lads. And where lacking in it once our first 11 is hampered by injuries. Or the best part of.

Hoofball. Don’t make me laugh man. The only people i have seen knocking it long this season is williamson and simpson. This could be down to any number of things. Confidence, under performing midfielders not showing for the ball. Blaming pardew for it as a tactic is a very weak argument indeed.

There is a major problem with fans on this blog how they jump at the chance to have a go at Pardew for any given reason.

I can agree, that he has made mistakes yes. But some people have got it in bigtime for this bloke.

Disgusting really, considering he took us to fifth last season.

I feel these individuals are going to be eating alot of humble pie starting in the next 4-6 wks.

I also think Santon is one of those players who we should not sell unless we get absolutely ridiculous money, and I mean in excess of £25m. The lad has the potential to become one of the best LBs on the planet. He can only improve and has been one of few positives this season. His defending can improve, but with an unsettled back line then it is harder to stay organised.

We need a left back who can defend.

Santon is every bit as much a weakness in defence as Willo or Simmo – if not more.

His connstant runs upfield and failure to get back quickly are leaving us time and again with a three man defence. Any fan who can’t see that is looking at Santon with rose tinted specs. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Pards was looking for a new left back.

The other two players we should not sell at all are HBA and Krul. It would be very hard to replace those players and we have to do our best to keep them in the future.

What he is saying, to me, is that the players they are in for might turn around in the last few days of the window and say they don’t want to come or get a better offer. Hotdog…I’d love the new players in a.s.a.p, but also understand it isn’t always that simple. I will give them the window to sort it out, but I wont be forgiving with the normal lines of we tried. At that point I would have been trying to be supportive to Ashley and Llambias, but it would have run out.

I’m not expecting miracles overnight, but I do feel, for some reason, that things will be better at Norwich. There is nothing to suggest a new signing this week would be ready for or have a major impact on the Norwich game.

Jettson…. Don’t like my Santa theory then? Completely hear what you’re saying. We need in a CB to at least match Taylors ability, but with a better injury record. Two would be great, but being realistic we can do with one for now and then re-shuffle the Willos etc in the summer.

I can remember our chat about it, the thing we kind of agreed on was that it wasn’t good , but had different opinions on the reason why,

These conversations took place before the Man U game
I think around the Wigan game,

In a lot of ways I feel I was right, and the proof has been how he has had them playing since,

By this I mean in the first 15 games he had pretty close to his full team but chose to hit it long, it has changed , it seems the worse of our squad gets the better we try and play football, so why not play like this in the first games with your better players?

Cabaye played to deep to have any impact on the game, and between him and HBA IMO we need them higher up and just give them the ball

And your right , I will never like him while he is here, i think both him and Carr are on different pages when it comes to players, we buy attack minded players which Pardew tries to transform into defensive players
Now I’m all for players adding skills to there game , but not if it means lose the player you had,
To many of our players have gone backwards under Pardew,

I’ve never seen Bong play, but some of the frenchie’s on F365′s forum seem to rate him highly. Been some very good teams linked with him, particularly German clubs. Whilst I don’t think LB is a priority area, it is an area where we need some depth. Seems like a long time ago we had cover at both bespoke full back positions. Anybody got any idea of what sort of fee we are looking at here?

Are you referring to the style of play this or last season? I assume this, as I thought last season was good.

Time will obviously tell and we’ve covered a lot of this before. I think it would be fair to say that Pardew raised his game for the Man U game and that in itself shows he perhaps should be a little more daring against “lower” opposition, but I believe he had his reasons, but they didn’t work at the end of the day. I feel this season has snowballed for Pardew, I’m sure he felt at first that we’re just getting going, we’ll get back to where we were last year (in performances) and things just kept piling up. Of course that is his job to deal with, but it’s also his job to deal with it over the whole season, not just up to Christmas.

We’ll see, the guy makes mistakes no doubt, but overall I think he’s done more good than bad with what he’s had to deal with. I’m happy to accept that I may be wrong and if that time comes, i’ll hold my hands up. I do find it odd that whilst you have your doubts you claim that you “will never like him while he is here” – Seems short sighted and filled with hate, do you not think that can effect reasonable judgement to some degree?

Why is everyone dismissing this outright? The president of the football club has said weve made a bid not some random noone.

And also why people turning there nose up at any kind of signing is beyond me, more players = move cover and more options. If we get this kid and simmo leaves which is likely then we have options at fb which is what u want, not having to rely on kids that arnt ready coming in and filling holes.

Fair play to him leaving, a mans self respect and reputation should be his first priority. Eventually, i feel he would of been hung out to dry by this set-up. I would think 2-4 players, but under Ashley I don’t put figures to that. That’s why the £25-30m surprises me, but what a pleasant surprise it would be!

Think this is a smart move. For all we know, Santon’s low defensive efforts could be due to fatigue. And the skill gap between him and Ferguson is so huge that Fergie isn’t yet a dependable sub for that position.

If we want to compete with the elite clubs, we’ll have to proceed accordingly and have depth as well as quality throughout the team. If it means having a senior backup while our youngsters continue to grow or get loan deals I say full steam ahead.

If Moussa Sissoko is available for £3 million and we do not get him I’ll be furious.

All last season I was on here saying Diame would be an excellent aqauasition on a free, exactly what we needed.

We stood still, did nothing a let him slip by.

Moussa Sissoko is twice the player in my opinion and if he is available at that price then I’ll be amazed.

If we don’t move now one of the top teams will come in and take him. He won’t sign a pre contract whilst relegation looms over our head.

£3 million is nothing in the grand scheme of things and as I said the other day he will be worth £20 million in 2-3 years.

Amazing player. Begs the question, if he is so good why doesn’t a massive club sign him?! Same with M’Villa.

On comments from the club as to what we have to spend, how many players we’re after, when we might get them, etc etc, it varies so much I’ve given up on it. It can’t all be right.

Therefore I am pleased to be hearing offers being made and will reserve judgement on the CB issue come Feb 1st. If we’ve strengthened elsewhere, but not CB questions will need to be answered and not fobbed off.

The clubs future is at risk and every point counts yet we are likely going into the next 2-3 games under strengthed and lacking a CB and CF cover.

Llambias has his strengths (I’m sure he has!) but his knowledge of running the football side of the club, player trading, squad strengths/weaknesses certainly don’t seem to be amongst them.
Simple solution would be to get someone in to work along side Llambias or even below him to organise the football side, maybe someone with experience or atleast some knowledge of this side of football. He can determine the stengths and weaknesses of the first team, first team squad and development squad and then discuss the options from there with Llambias/Ashley.

Paying someone £250K a year say to do this job would save millions in the future imho.

Would then leave Llambias the financial side and his favourite part, club PR

A good window will be the signing of:-
Debuchy (already here)
Remy – 11m euros
Sissoko
And a CB.
However, as it was posted yesterday that NUFC will not pursue any other positions until a striker is sorted I have little faith in this Cameroon player story or any other potential link.
I am also interested where the 137million TV money figure comes from. We would have to be on TV every game next season so think that figure is wrong Proud.

The highest amount paid to a club, Man City 2011/12 was just over £60 mil.

The lowest amount paid to a club, Wolves 2011/12 was just under £40 mil.

On the basis that NUFC got 50million from TV and we are going to get an extra 70 percent of that which is 35million then that equates to a potential TV revenue of £85million for next season. That is as long as we are still in the EPL.
On a side note I still admire your optimistic view that signings are going to happen.

Think Sissoko, Sulejmani and Douglas would be bargain signings. Mbiwa would be around £7-9m. Toby Alderewerield and Sissoko are must signings. Sulejmani and Remy would be good signings. Signing Benteke in the summer could be an option if Villa drop.

Pardew is not looking for a replacement for Santon . He was quoted in the Independent as being unable to give him a rest because of a lack of cover. Hence he’s looking for an additional FB. The point was clearly made. Santon has had a recent dip in form but over the season to date he’s been one of the few successes. Ferguson has looked nervous and out of his depth when given chances at left back. He should go out on loan if we do bring someone in. As far as Santon’s defensive qualities he clearly needs to work on that part of his game. However, I do not fault him in terms of reasonably expecting covering CDM and CB to afford him protection when he bombs forward.

Newcastle lack quality in depth and balance, so certain areas need strengthening more than others, but we do need another fullback if Simmo leaves. If a good player is gettable, at a good price, no matter his position, I’d hope we’d be in for them.

There is a real lack of competition for first team places as things stand and this I think is why we have slipped up so badly. I think we need an injection of 5 genuine first team players and if this guy is an improvement on Simmo, he’ll push Debuchey and Santon and that’s exactly the kind of depth we need.

Am I the only one who thinks that Santon should be playing in midfield where he can pass the ball and break down play.

He has fantastic technique and IMO is totally wasted at LB. He is a typical continental play maker, pass and move and needs to be in the centre of the park where he can drift out to the wings or track back and help ith the defence if need be, however like many players who come to Newcastle we probably won’t get the best out of him and he’ll be sold on only to emerge as a superstar in Europe.

I agree, Santon really looks too good for us too hold on to as he enters his prime. I think we will add steel and experience to his game and then he’ll move on to a big European club and frankly we aren’t good enough or big to stand in the way of a top players evolution.

I suspect, for example, we’ve held on to Tiote for one more season after he had his big career move opportunity and that’s why he’s pissed off and unsettled.

I feel santon is being overhyped by a few people.. He has been our player of the season so far. But only because he is shining amongst development players and fringe players. Along with under performing senior players. Good player but far from the finished article, has a hell of alot to learn as yet.

He is certaintly not as a big or as good as some ppl suggest at the minute

I had a front three of Lamela, Cisse and Neymar for the mighty toon but my career crashed after season. since then I’ve been ultimate teaming but I might go back season mode and hope for the best.

I hate Ultimate Team, the results at the top are bullshit. If someone quit on you you don’t get the win, if you lose connection you get a defeat, if you lose against the computer you record a loss, if you beat the computer you don’t get a win…it’s pathetic!!

Toon thinka – you hope fans are going to be eating humble pie in 4-6 weeks? Don’t we all but it’s going I be hard to forget all the dross and defeats endured during the past three months. At first it was “if you take out November” and then it was “if you remove November and December from the equation” what next? Nov, dec and jan? Some of the comments, results and performances have been inexcusable and everyone at the club owes us fans.

Santon is a liability no more than any of the other lads at the back, he’s cost us in abou three games lately but was one of our better players at the start of the season. He gets forward as you would expect from a wing back but why doesn’t the defensive midfielder slot in for him? It’s a team game and players should cover for other players like when Willo goes for a corner. My bigger criticism for Santon, Collo, Willo and Simmo is that they ball watch and hardly ever look around themselves.

As for the whole we might be buying a backup left back i struggle to believe that when it takes them so effing long to buy first team players. Every man and his dog know Ba needs replacing and we need a centre back so I don’t believe we’re looking at cover players, we will be lucky to get the cb and st we need.

Still operating on a sell to buy policy by my books and will be until the signings dictate otherwise.

Santon is a player like Bassong that always manages to come up smelling of roses in a losing team. He has a such a casual attitude and looks anything but a team player to me. Willo and Simmo are the easy scapegoats but gut instinct tells me Santon is the main liability in our current back 4.

From what i have seen from this guy he is a solid defender and @ 6’2 he plays LB or CB i think AP is keeping his focus on having players that can fit in more than one defensive position should anything happen to DS but all in all it is gonna help our defensive problems he is a fast paced defender with a neat touch of the ball i say go get him pards HWTL

A thought on the backup players. We say there no good but Raylor, vuckic and gosling have long term injuries – they’re no world beaters but definitely ahead of most of our youngsters.

I think Raylor has been one of our biggest losses this season. He can cover at lb, rb and across the midfield. He rarely has a bad game and is our biggest threat at dead balls. He isn’t a world beater but he’d have given Pards less selection headaches during the injury crisis we’ve had.

I remember saying that Santon presents as much a liability at the back as a threat going forward back a while when things started to unravel, at the time it was a capital offence though, so I was roundly slapped for daring to whisper blasphemous thoughts about our LB. As soon as Santon replaced Raylor and HBA replaced Oba we became weaker defensively. HBA added more to the team than he took away but nobody will convince me the same applied to Santon.

Santon has the makings of a very good player – but he’s not a left back. Not by a mile.

KYO – i posted a link to an article the independent are doing. I expect this will be a fueled debate in one of Ed’s articles soon. Dunno if its total crap to sell papers and unsettle the fans but apparently Wandering Geordie who is based in S America was saying there is talk there about Colo returning home.

For a couple of reasons I cant say, I think this is tosh, but if he doesnt make a statement about it after this article, I will start to be a bit concerned.

The Colo rumors seems to have legs – but I doubt we’ll let him go here in January since his buyer to be cannot afford him (this is not charity event last time I checked).

…also the Bong rumors are gethering pace here in DK and there seems to be some rumors about a player (Simmo) + cash offer for Tomkins!

I wouldnt be happy to let Colo go just because this season he has apparently suffered in form. Its a shame that some fans cant see the bigger picture of the failings of the defensive unit and continuously pillory Willo and Colo for their inadequacies. Simpson and Santon and our flaky DM’s (especially Tiote) have cost us many games, and tryingo cover an overstretched defence has made our CB’s look terrible being dragged all over the place to cover for them. If Colo read these blogs I would not blame him for throwing in the towel. As it is, I already knew that his missus is not fond of the UK and would have liked him to move closer to home. That part rings true unfortunately.

Sounds like he has made his mind up and is off. They make make him wait until the Summer but do we want a guy with his heart somewhere else?

This is bad news in the short-term, no matter who we sign. Turmoil and instability at the worst possible time.

Longer term, I am less concerned, he is a high earner and this frees up budget for guys who do want to be at the club.

Time will tell if this is bull or not.

From what I know of Colo, he is not the kind of guy to drop us in it mid way through the season, his style would be to do this quietly and leave in the summer.

I’m not going ITK but I do know that the club were approached last year by a top european club but he refused to talk as he was captain here and felt he had a job to complete.

People have to question why all the transfer turmoil has arisen around Colo….he signed a big contract and seemingly bought into the ‘plan’ for progress. The promises madeby those at the top have been reneged upon again..and yet there’ll no doubt be shouts of Judas coming from the hordes of the blind…
If our excellent captain wants out it’sbecause he doesn’t want to see a second relegation in 4 years and is sick of playing with the likes of Williamson when we were all promised much better.
A one out, one in policy is an utter disgrace, especially when we struggle so badly to seal incoming deals and our attrativeness to potential players diminishes by the day.

Apparently, were after both Per Ciljan Skjelbred and M’villa. I can certainly see the skjelbred deal happening, being a toon fan, running out of contract in the summer, And playing anywhere behind the striker, perhaps in that LAM spot remy was apparently touted for. although M’villa isnt real needed and i feel hes one of them players who are talked up better than they actually are

Do you honestly think the threat of relegation is what has Coloccini allegedly wanting a move. The man stuck with us through our darkest hour and for the four years we’ve had him has been one of the most honourable players we’ve had.

It’s for that reason that if Collo says there are personal reasons meaning he needs to return to Argentina, then so be it. I’m not gonna doubt his sincerity for one second. However just because we’ve be willing to let him go doesn’t mean San Lorenzo won’t have to pay £5m or so for him.

That leaves us needing a striker, not looking like Remy at this stage but who knows, two CBs and potentially a replacement for Simpson if he goes.

All those players fit the blueprint of U26 with massive sell on value. Throw in the £12m we could get from Ba, Coloccini & Simpson, that’s a £13m outlay. If we can’t spend that, then good luck

What about Yang M’Biwa? He’s captain of his side, young and supposedly a good defender. As for Colo, its a bombshell. NUFC.COM are reporting it and that Remy could be off to Arsenal.. It’d have to be a helluva good reason for Colo to dump his job and us mid-season when we are in trouble but such things can happen. How San Lorenzo are supposed to recompense Mashley some of the €10 million we paid for him is another story. The sentimental guff from Colo’s auld man about loving the San Lorenzo club etc. had better have nowt to do with it but for anyone to chuck in a 60k per week job it’d have to be sommat special, not just homesickness. This will do wonders for morale and encourage every young blood in Europe to give Toon a wide berth.
As we have said before and its worth repeating, how much better would it have been to have made our proper recruitments to the side from a position of reputation and strength in the summer?

Iv said for a while, far too much pressure being put under our captain. No steady back four, no cover. The summer was a disgrace.

You can’t blame him really. Ill personally be devastated at this point in the season.

If Newcastle sign him with the intention of playing him at LB, happy days. We need a LB, Santon gets injured and we’re buggered. Jonas and Fergie aren’t good enough at LB. If Newcastle sign a LB, CB CM ST then they’ve done well and made up for the summer. But they’ll probably just sign two defenders and one striker, even though we need two strikers really, and that will turn to three soon, shola isn’t getting any younger. Basically Newcastle need to spend quite a lot, but they won’t of course. Mike Ashley seem happy enough for the club to stay where it is. Even Arsenal recognize that they need to spend some money on players to get a CL return on it.

We’ve needed a centre back for how long…one that would complement Colo’s style (and not be injured too often!) but now we’ve not only replaced our right back, we’re looking at a new left back (whether it’s cover or not) and it looks like we’re going to lose our captain and best central defender we’ve had at our club for a long time.
A whole new back line?
Add to that we’ve lost our top goal scorer too!

We were told it was going to be a busy January but didn’t realise it was going to be a complete re-shuffle. Bad time to do it imo if it is the case.
