If we include the 1-1 draw at Liverpool on November 4th, Newcastle have won two and drawn two of their last 13 league games – and that’s 8 points from a possible 39 points played for, so while we are happy to get an away point and a clean sheet today, Newcastle still have a lot of work to do if we are to pull away from the lower reached of the Premier League.
Papiss Cisse – in action this afternoon
Newcastle had conceded 15 goals in our previous four matches in all competitions, since keeping a clean sheet at home to QPR, so Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is taking some positives from the 0-0 draw at Carrow Road today – and it’s a better result than our 4-2 defeat there last season.
This is what a relieved Alan Pardew said after today’s game:
“It was a more favorable result for us than for Norwich as they were the home side. It was two teams that worked hard and restricted the opposition.” “For us it was important to get a clean sheet.”
“I had the luxury of putting some senior players on the pitch and the result showed that.” “That was a key game. We have Reading at home and Aston Villa away coming up so it is an important time for us.”
And Newcastle are rock bottom of the Premier League form standings, which takes the last six league games played, and we’ve picked up just one win and one draw (4 points) from a possible 18.
But Newcastle cannot be too happy at today’s result, and now we need two successive wins – at home to Reading and away at Aston Villa, against two sides who are even worse off than we are – and two wins will help us put some points between Newcastle and two of the teams below us in the league table.
And two successive wins will help to lift the mood on Tyneside.

Comment #6It was hard to watch. Both teams were very poor. Poor passing all over the pitch, poor set pieces and particularly poor corners. And this is the best league in the world? Don’t think so. Many of the players are technically very unskilled. Couldn’t trap a bag of cement as they say. We had no attack whatsoever. Norwich were there to be beaten but no chance with our attack.

Comment #12i don’t think people are hysterical, just thoroughly peed off.
2 wins out of 17 is a joke. we have been poor all season even before cabs and Benny were injured. Norwich are hardly blessed with superstars are they!!
We have these ball payers but still we hoof it. So many times Krul hangs on the ball for the big boot instead of throwing it to someone to get an attack moving.
I have never seen such a cautious, negative, defensive manager with such limited ideas, ie hoofball and trying to play offsides and who worries so much more about the opposition than imposing ourselves on them.
Remy and a CB may just save pardew but it’s going to be very tight .

Comment #135 points from these 3 games should have been the target. That will see us undefeated in three and if we can get a 1-0 win at home to Reading and a 0-0 draw at Villa I’ll take that. Would be nice to think we can nip two 1-0 wins out the next two games to be fair. Clean sheets boost confidence.
In the next 6 games or so its important to put points on the board. At this stage a 0-0 away against anybody is a good result.

Comment #16Only positive from today’s game was the return of cabaye. I’ve just read on skysports news that we are close to signing remy. But it says spurs are going to try and make a last minute hijack of the deal. If remy watched that today I’m sure he had quickly changed his mind

Comment #17I must be one of a few people that doesn’t want to see Pardew sacked. I do think he should grow a set of balls and tell the board how it is. Do any of you think signings will save our season?

Comment #19That was poor. By Championship standards. Before I was not worried. We came out fighting against Man Utd. We did ok against Arsenal but for the last 10. Now I am worried. Maybe it is time for Pardew to say good bye. Not saying we will find a better coach out there, but at least when there is change in any organisation, football club or a company, people usually get out of their comfort zone and try to outperform the person they were yesterday. Norwich were physically stronger, they had more purpose, every time a ball seemed to fall into what was perceived as a no mans land there was a yellow jersey there. They tried to counter and not overrun the midfield, but even when playing through the midfield where we supposedly had 5 players, we were outnumbered. I fail to see how that could happen. How could they find space all the time. Very poor game. What is really worrying is that if any team would ever win this contest, it could only be one team. That team was not Newcastle United Football Club. Hello Alan Pardew. You are in serious trouble now. Beginning to wonder if Ben Arfa and Tim Krul covered up the full 2011/12 season for a team that really is not that good. Even Demba Ba would not have made a difference today.

Comment #20Boater exactly, if we can’t cope with a few injuries then surely the whole purple strategy needs revising and the squad players need improving. Anybody would think our team is solely hba, cabaye and taylor. The only long term injuries we have had is cabaye and Taylor. If Pardew is going to use the injuries as an excuse then he cannot tell me we only need 1 or 2 players.
7 points from a possible 36
8 points from a possible 39
2 wins 1 draw 9 defeats in our last 12 games
Worst form of the league
Apologies for not getting excited over our twentieth rubbish performances and a point that sees us slip lower in the table.

Comment #21@Sir Braveheart – “Rangers in the same bracket as the Ameobi brothers; they’re not going to do anything disasterous to cost you the game but they’re never going to win you the match.”
Sorry, I must have dreamt that one of the Ameobi brothers came off the bench a few weeks ago to score a fine individual goal that secured us our one and only win in 10 matches.

Comment #23Rotonda your not the only one peed off. I am peed off with relentless criticism from people like you and Catchy. Catchy predicted a loss today, presumably because that was the result he wanted so I suppose he will be peed off as well.
A clean sheet and away draw is not a bad result when we are coming off the back of a bad run of results.Even if we won today you would still find something to twist about.

Comment #24Do we know our best team? I don’t think we do and that is the biggest problem the lack of consistency in the team. Players do not look familiar with each other nor where they’re supposed to be.
I think Steven Taylor, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote (despite his poor form of late) into the starting XI would restore familiarity and more confidence.
The squad is still desperately short, a problem that was not rectified in the summer.
However, my overriding message is remain positive, be supportive and stick with the players and manager that achieved so much last year.

I hope he did say 3-4 mate. I don’t think 4 will be enough. We lack strength in depth. We have a good first team but scratch the surface and we have below average players. I noticed that possession swung in our favor as soon as Cabaye came on lol. Good news in the fact we got a draw and Cabaye is back, bad news that SAFC won and we dropped a place in the league.

Comment #28Toon1978 – I think a cb will certainly help us stop conceding silly goals which is a start. We need another leader at the back or in general just a very good cb. Another striker would go amiss, we know cisse needs the ball at his feet yet still send it long or offer no support for him.
I also think we need proper wingers and not half hearted wingers, not even hba is a winger but we would rather stick him on the wing where it’s less dangerous

1-2 players is what AP said on BBC….so I guess no one can trust a word that comes out of APs mouth…..sick of it to tell ya the truth!
Not defending Catchy but must say I did not entirely agree with your below comment……
“Catchy
So after a whole season of whinging like fcuk about 442 your now saying you would of played that today?
Unbelievable you cant even balance your own opinion let alone criticise others!!!”
I do not think that is fair comment because:-
(1) 4-2-3-1 was what people had wanted in the event Ba played centrally but not Cisse on the wing….so your comment does not make much sense to me. You play the formation to the players you have available to an extent….if it does not work then you change it……we didn’t…….and that’s the point AP appears unable to change things around for the better during a match….perhaps at half-time but not mid-flow………perhaps AP has very rigid coaching structures which are not helpful to the players……
(2) On paper also see nothing wrong with 4-2-3-1 but then we did not play hardly any balls to Cisse’s feet though admit Cabaye made some difference you cannot expect him to be effective….besides the mid-field sat too deep and Cisse was isolated……he’s not Ba, his play is completely different in that respect.

Comment #32Before anyone points out the obvious – I realise that Ben Arfa and Tiote won’t be back for a foreseeable time period due to injury and AFCON.
A point against a difficult opponent in Norwich and a clean sheet is not bad despite the performance. We have played several games (especially over xmas) where we played well and got nothing.

Comment #40Willow played ok today. He did give the ball away a lot with long balls but did defend really well. Pech also played his socks off. Jonas did nothing great or eye catching but i must admit we have been missing his work rate on a huge scale. I have really criticized Jonas in the past but he worked his ass off today. I really hope Collo does not lave, he was also very good today. Anita was a little unusual today but also grafted hard.
