As expected, Mathieu Debuchy will make his debut today for Newcastle United at Carrow Road, but his best pal Yohan Cabaye is only on the bench, after returning from injury.
Newcastle will play in a modified 4-3-3 formation, and the midfield three look to be James Perch, Vurnon Anita and Sylvain Marveaux, and Jonas Gutierrez also returns from injury and starts this game.
For Norwich, captain Grant Holt returns from injury and is on the bench, and former Newcastle center-back Sebastien Bassong is in the starting line-up for the Canaries.
Want away captain Fabricio Coloccini will lead out the Newcastle side today, and we desperately need to pick up something from this game, to break our four game losing streak.
Howay The Lads!!

Shame that the Collo story is taking away the fact that we’ve only brought in one defender so far with probably the three most important games of the season coming up and the defender in question is a guy who was only signed so quickly is because the only other available natural right back is the injured Simpson.

Jonas back in straight away i frigan knew it, fckn sammy n ranger on the bench no fergie or campbell, perch in as well again, obertan another chance as well, william bullshiter negative tactics, a draw is the very very best we can hope for.

Best line-up we have at the moment. I think Debuchy’s performance could be key. If he plays well it could lift the other players.

20 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:15 PM
Amalfitano on the bench. They obviously found the cupboard where he has been hiding all this time.
In retrospect hide and seek wasn’t a great idea for a team building exercise.
21 LewSpi v2.0 // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:16 PM
Haha I can’t believe people complaining about Jonas being back.
I’m really not his biggest fan, but we’ve lost 12 of the last 14 or something ridiculous because experienced 1st teamers injured. They’re back and you still want to play the kids!
Unbelievable. Haha.
22 hdavid23 // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:16 PM
i’m actually glad Jonas is back, yes, he can’t offer much in offense, but we really need his defensive skills, especially as Santon loves to go forward, and we got in trouble many many times because of that while Jonas wasn’t playing
23 Twatter // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:16 PM
I’ll say 2-2 draw. Would like to see Debuchy roaming forward and getting some crosses in.
24 Tommyy // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:17 PM
Because on the left Jonas is a waste of everybody’s time. No drive, like a second left back without the positional sense. At least in the middle he gets more of the ball.

30 naptoon // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:18 PM

32 Twatter // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:19 PM
@LewSpi
We’ve lost the last 12 of 14 not because of injuries but because we don’t have a proper squad. I don’t think anyone honestly wants us to play the kids. We’re just frustrated by the fact we don’t actually have a team with any depth whatsoever and Jonas has been pretty awful or average at best everytime he’s played this season.

I think Jonas is back to offer his defensive skills which we need as we have be conceding lots of goals. Not too worried that him not providing much will be a big problem for this game as we have been scoring lots of goals recently as well, it’s our defense that’s letting us down. Jonas will cover Santon when he goes forward. Jonas may as well as a LB
38 Minato // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:21 PM
Glad to see some positive comments, especially about Jonas. Haven’t been great defensively all season, but think about how many more we have shipped without him in the team? I think today will be a tough one…would be sick with a loss, content with a draw..the next two are far more crucial in my opinion..a win of course would definitely ease some of the pressure going in to them..

@hdavid23.
I hope so. Jonas can stabilize Santon’s attacking instinct and the no. 10 role gives our most creative player the freedom to find space. Best of all with Anita further back there will actually be someone to link defence with attack rather than lump it up to Cisse and hope Marv is there for the knockdown.

I agree with him fully, I have been a big advocate of what he does off the ball more than what he does on it as strange as that sounds. Have really missed his stability and positional play. Not the best at picking a pace or making those pacy runs anymore, but in my view has been far more valuable to us over for last two seasons for what he does for us now.
50 boater // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:25 PM

It’s not like we were ever playing magical football with Jonas in the team? Look, obviously I want changes, but the changes I’d want aren’t facilitated in this “squad”, if we can call it that, assembled by a very tight owner. You’re acting as if Jonas is some new player we’ve signed or has shown any attacking promise this whole season. He just hasn’t.
You need to look at the back four and how the midfield retains posession though, serious short-comings if we’re delighted a LW has come back to shore up our team defensively. Seems a little ridiculous to me.
70 Mister Tuff // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:31 PM
I think we’ll be lucky to get a result today. Team looks a bit weak. Persisting with Obertan – he will not make the grade – even though he thinks he should be in France’s starting eleven. 79 LewSpi v2.0 // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:36 PM
I think you’re underestimating the lift that an experienced player brings to a team.
Having Jonas playing will be far more advantageous for the mindset of the other inexperienced players in the grit of the game, than having someone like Sammy playing on the LW.
I trust Jonas to grab hold of a game much more than a player like Sammy or Bigi, and thats no disrespect to them I think they will both be brilliant, they just haven’t got that experience yet.
80 MacToon // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:36 PM

Anyone saying i hope Jonas starts in the middle is totally clueless and i wonder if they actually follow the club as its clear that is not the line up for a few reasons:
1) Pardew always starts the games with Jonas out wide
2) why would you want our most creative player stuck out wide when he been outstanding of late through the middle (marv) ?

According to Tim Vickery (the BBC’s South American football correspondent), since Colo’s dad has been hired to the San Lorenzo board and is coaching the youth teams, he has decided he wants to go there. No ill wife – no clandestine affair.
They’ve got no money and unless we loan him to them or release him from his contract (which we would be mad to do) he won’t be going anywhere, and will just have to suck it up.

We’ll win this game if williamson and gutierrez play out of their skin. They’ve been passengers/liabilities this season. They play well, then the team will play well.
But, like you said, can’t see it happening!

Im very nervous about our cbs today. Willo is as always one of the worst cbs ever to wear the shirt but i have always been a massive fan of colo and would always think he will pick up form from his recent slump but with the recent news that he wants to leave that wont be the case. Can see us having a bad time at the back will need to outscore them
118 bambams // Jan 12, 2013 at 2:58 PM
we have to remember Debuchy is a fb…..
He will improve our team, no doubt about that.
But he is a full back who stops attackers and who bombs forward and puts crosses in (I hope) for others to score from, he aint going to change the whole situation alone.
I am not being a neg, just dont want us to put too much
pressure in the lad in his first game. I am going to put a fiver on him scoring a hatrick !!!!

Obertan supposibly has ability but I am yet to see it.
Ability isn’t doing one great trick to beat a man in a game or one good cross.
Ability is being able to do that consistently and finding a way to make yourself effective most Of the game.
He has ‘lacked confidence’ for over 4 years in England now, he no longer lacks confidence, he just isn’t cut out for a top European league.

Arguably that’s what we’ve really been missing. Anita, Marv, Obertan and Jonas haven’t nearly got themselves on the ball as much as they should be. We have the ability in that midfield to be creating chances but they seem to be shying away from the ball, or being by-passed by Willo, either way we’re creating nothing.

Said it before but obertan is not the winger Pards wants him to be. He is best utilised in tight spaces not to run the flanks he can help unlock when he plays the return in the middle.
Slow start, perked up a bit but it just lacks energy and confidence.
If anybody watched cisse in Germany they will know that although he is a great poachers , he deserved more than hopeful balls, try playing it along the ground a bit there was more to his game at Freiburg.
Santon once again being the best on the pitch. Anita has a class touch and footballing brain though.

229 TurkishFan101 // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:48 PM
We never push through the middle, most of the half has been on the right then last few minutes on the left. We dont use middle of the park to create chances, thus it ends up still getting hoofed up to either the left winger or right winger. I don’t understand what Pardew does in the training ground. We don’t see anyone get into space to support players, they are waiting for the pass, no one is supporting in the middle of the park. Unbelievable nothing will change when Ben Arfa, Cabaye or steven taylor comes. It will be the same as the beginning of the season when we had Aston Villa with a fully fit team, no one seems to care but wait for the ball to come to them.
Only positives? Santon, Anita, Marveaux, Perch, Colo, krul.
Williamson can suck off a pub team he is absolutely shiot.

247 JackButler // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:54 PM
Willo’s like a one legged man at times, he seems to panic every time the ball comes near him, no class, no composure no bloody clue. He’d find it hard to join another premier league club even if he was available on a free
248 Rotonda heights // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:55 PM
The commentator keeps saying boring match but I’ve really really enjoyed that half.
It may be more by accident than design, but without Ba or Shola, Pardew has finally got back to the formation we should have started the season with, with playing one number 9, not 2 down the centre.
We are far more fluid with the extra man in midfield rather than 2 strikers and the ball is staying on the deck, willo apart, who is just such a total donkey and embarrassment with the ball at his feet at this level.
But we’ve sorted the Simmo dilemma and the Ba or Cisse issue, now just need a replacement for Willo and it all looks a bit brighter.
249 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:55 PM

NUFC for Sale
I would say that defensively we look the most organised we have in a long time, our midfield isn’t getting on the ball nor are they creating chances for Cisse but that is more down to failing to find that quality in the final third, something that is easily rectified when we have the likes of Cabs and Benny fully fit which should see us score the goals we need to stay up.
I don’t think we have too much to panic about other than the alarming lack of depth in our squad

I always think things are going OK in the first half – as do you, as you always seem to post at half time that things are looking up
The way the commentators act is absolutely disgraceful. No on wants to tune in and hear two old men moan about how bored they are. It’s pathetic, and they get paid more than 99% of us for it.
258 Nufc-83 // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:58 PM
TDS marginally better lol simmo is not far from being similar to willo who would look out of place in a league 1 team.

I would have said that Santon and Perch looked like our two best players, Anita is capable of passing the ball just haven’t seen him on the ball enough. Santon still needs to track back a hell of a lot quicker when he loses the ball though.

I think we have actually played decent the defence is a lot more solid we are just lacking that bit of quality in the final third which cabaye and HBA provide.

He isn’t attacking that much as Obertan won’t help him out defensively

2nd half marv obertan and cisse need to up there work rate especially marv and obertan if perch and santon can find space in the final third they need to be aswell

This season has shown a lack of pace.
Everything is easier with pace. You can stretch the opposition forcing then to play deeper and be wider or find themselves open to quick players in behind.
If we had say bale and Lennon on either side it would stretch teams which gets not just chances for them, but more room and freedom for play in the middle if cabaye.
That’s why remy or a similar player is vital

Everyone he still staying f*£king defensive. No one is supporting Cisse. With a squad like this we should be beating teams like Norwich. Its Pardew that’s at fault, his philosophy is a complete 100% fail and does not work. Get this guy out of our club, we wont be winning any games playing like this. Everyone is pushing backwards not forwards.

Its odd to have a manager who won nowt and is now on an eight year contract.
We need someone who can ‘coach’ players…..Give them a style to play that they can be comfortable with. The club talk about building a team and continuity, we could not be further away if we tried.
Ragged, disorganised and no leaders anywhere.
We have this window and probably 5 or 6 games to improve or we will be in trouble and wont be able to get out.

@TADS we are set up too defensive no one is supporting Cisse because of Pardew. Ranger at least adds some pace to the game. Have you not been watching the game. The midfield is stuck with the Defenders. This tactical approach is a fail and will never change. Pardew has never changed from losing to winning its been at everywhere, he nearly relegated West Ham. Now hes doing same to us, he needs to go.

Cisse is a waste when midfield not working. Need a Ba like player strong and powerful, a similar CM, a Quick CF/winger and a CB, two if collo goes.
Cabaye and collo easily the best players on the park.
465 Klam3r // Jan 12, 2013 at 4:54 PM
Poor performence again(even though we got 1 point), and i’m not surprised. The team isn’t balanced, and the transitions from defence to attack is shocking. Again Pardew shows me he has nothing to give a team as a manager, and his lack of tactical knowledge scares me.
I would use some of the transfer budget on a new manager if i was Ashley. No doubt!

Such a lack of creative class. They are trying to play Cisse as though he is Demba Ba, a striker that can stand alone and hold the ball up. Even when Cisse was playing at his best, he still suffered in that department.

Cisse had plenty of spaxe today and lost chances through some shocking touches and being unbelievably slow to react, marv was bone idol today and greedy there was no service so putting on ranger would of resulted in 2 cf’s running round like headless chickens followed by you complaining were in a 442
By the way you never said who you would of started today instead of guti and obertan
494 TurkishFan101 // Jan 12, 2013 at 4:59 PM
@tads I agree with you but this is what the manager wants the players to do. He has been doing this all season now, I didn’t see any support for Cisse today. All the long balls up in the air for him nothing else. 2 signings or even 4 wont change this team. They have got allot of problems starting with tactical philisophy this team has approached all the way to set pieces and substitutes. Remy wont change us, no Defender can change us. The manager Pardew has to go, he is making us look like a pile of cr@p. I am used to watching us play football like this now and when we score I dont even cheer, do you want to know why? because the goals that we score are almost 85% lucky unless we got a talented guy like Ben Arfa which I think we are soo lucky to have in our team. We cant seem to support each other out, no one is moving in to space, they just stay at one position and expect a world class pass to hit them so they can open up play. If anyone disagrees with me go ahead, I think you cannot be stupid enough to defend Pardew now cause he has really made us look like the “wee” club all the southerners down here think we are.

The footballing display was awful (especially second half) BUT…
What do some people expect! The team is massively low on confidence and not losing the game today was what was on their mind most! We almost played for that in the final third of this match!
It is a clean sheet and something to build on, which is more than we’ve had for a while now! It’s clear we need more players (pace + power) going forward and I’m sure the club is trying to get a couple in…
This is a big point for us, but next week will be even more important and hopefully we’ll have Saylor back as well. Not to mention Cabaye from the start and no new injuries by the looks of things!
THINGS TO BE POSITIVE ABOUT!!

Ya beattie and john tudor, we won’t stay up with one points from games, but this point changes the perspective of the next home game.. Worst match of football i’v ever witnessed …
511 Adssy Mccc // Jan 12, 2013 at 5:11 PM
Why did we not perform with the players we had out there…??
Well for a start:
*We were set up to try and get a point as WE are the away side and not some top draw team who can roll most teams over in their own ground!
*The team’s postion of late has clearly made players anxious going forward. Something that a win next week will hopefully sort out (when we’ll be at home with the crowd behind us!)
*Cisse is not a man to play with just a withdrawn striker like Marv up alongside him. I’m sure we’ll be better when we have a front three and HBA beside him (as well as another lively player like Remy possibly?)
A point is very important here. Although I do hope Pards gets us playing much better football (if/when) we start moving up the table and get a couple of decent signings in…
The last part remains to be seen – but we have to hope!!
