Newcastle Linked With £5M Rated Danish Center-Back

2:52 am, Saturday, January 12th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 86 Comments

Newcastle are being linked with 20 year-old Danish International center-back Jores Okore, who plays for Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga.

Jores Okore

Jores Okore – Newcastle interested

The lad has already played four times for the full Danish side, and yet he doesn’t turn 21 until August, so the 6′ defender, who was born in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast, seems a top up-and-coming youngster, and Manchester United are also said to be interested in the player.

The Danish international defender is said to be available for around £5M and he has been very impressive for Nordsjaelland in the Champions League games this season.

Okore started his career in 2000 with Danish second division club Boldklubben af 1893 when he was just 8 years old, and he then joined Nordsjaelland in 2007.

He made his league debut against AC Horsens in April of 2011,  and in September of the same year  Okore made his international Youth debut for the Danish under-21 at the age of 19, and played in the UEFA Under-21 Championship Qualifier, winning 3–0 against Northern Ireland.

He then made his full International debut in a friendly against Sweden in November of 2011.

Okore has played 58 times for Nordsjaelland with two goals, and he seems a good player in the making to us.

    Repost from previous thread

    Stuart

You are an absolute moron, how can someone be accused of racism when I have no prior knowledge of your ethnicity. Also, the jibe “like talking to a monkey” isn’t even a racist remark if directed at a black person. Intent is the fundamental element in anything, if I did not know you were black, how could there possibly be any intent towards racism? Now grow up and stop being such a child.

As you yourself quipped, it is all about perception, you happen to choose to perceive that as a racist remark.

  • 4 nick_9 // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:07 AM

    Well that escalated quickly…..

Sign some effing players man, surely a club with 50,000 fans still in Europe with a large French contingent can still attract a good calibre of player. It’s all fine and dandy players wanting to assess their options until the end of the window but I want them now and they need to know that. Ashley, llambias, charnley whoever needs to make our targets aware of that. We’ve got three winnable games this month and can still salvage a respectable finish.

“I mean that really got outta hand fast.”
    “It jumped up a notch”
    “It did didn’t it”

Hopefully that was what you were alluding to, but if not then I probably have confused you no end haha

disgusted with people like ruddy resorting to racist taunts after discovering their logic was invalid

  • 7 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:11 AM

    Jeff

So the Mackem blogs got nothing worth talking about then? If calling me racist while you’re pretending to support Newcastle (must not go down too well your end) gives you kicks then have at it.

    Paddy

2 threads back stuart just stated:

“Ruddy we’ll sort this in the morning. I’ll speak to Ed”

About what exactly? Loses an argument and plays the racism card? Bloody ridiculous, but mud sticks and be damned if I want that label.

  • 12 nick_9 // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:16 AM

Ruddy yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.

Big game today, league table could be very ugly if we lose

“I saw that, Brick killed a guy” haha

Massive game, in terms of points, psychological blow of Hughton possibly getting one up on Mashley and Del, and the overall feeling of doom and despair looming large.

    Massive game.

    So… how’s everybody?

  • 16 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:29 AM

    Paddy

Cheers for the backing there fella. Just to clarify to anyone that may still be thinking I harbour racist thoughts, I certainly do not advocate racism in any way shape or form. I don’t think what I said was even remotely racist given its context, even if I was aware of his ethnicity and that I would never resort to discussions about race in any debate, discussion or argument as it is absolutely disgusting.

Further more, people who try and drag others down to a base level by claiming they are racist when no racist comments have been made are equally disgusting as they are cheapening the merits of those who genuinely suffer racist abuse. Stuart you are a joke mate.

  • 19 Sir Erec // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:48 AM

Been following Okore for a while, this guy is a beast, is young, and with the right coaching can become pretty special.

5mil may be a bit, but I think that fee is speaking a lot towards his potential.

Not like it is related at all, but just note that the last bloke we passed up from the Danish league went on to become arguably one of the top center halfs in EPL for the last couple years ( Hangeland).

  • 20 MacToon // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:49 AM

At last, about Colo on radio 5 live……

Tim Vickery says, the story in Argentina is that Colo is a huge fan of San Lorenzo and wants to play for them especially with the change of regime there and his Dad’s involment in the club.
He also says the stories we’re getting are not the same as the stories reported in Argentina!

    The plot thickens.

  • 21 MacToon // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:54 AM

He hints that Colo’s putting pressure on NUFC to get his move and the stories about being homesick and/or family problems etc. are not the same as the what’s reported there.
Colo’s Dad has been on record saying for weeks that Colo wants to come back home and play for his favourite team and is not something that’s just occured over the last week or so!

  • 22 ONLINE GUY // Jan 12, 2013 at 3:54 AM

Ruddy ..Previous page we were on just check out post 39 and save it ..read post 25 and post 30 .. Stu ask’s the question in post 25 ..sort of resolves things for you. nite all.

  • 23 Kc-Toon // Jan 12, 2013 at 4:14 AM

I wouldnt begrudge colo for any personal reason serious enough to affect his family life, im sure we would all side with family rather than a job.
Although, if he just fancies being part of his dads set up, Has women chasing him around with little bairns with afros ,or spat his dummy out at being spun a lie whilst signing a new contract, Id be fairly pissed off !
Has anyone heard about players in the past that have gone through this sort of thing ?

  • 24 iggystinger // Jan 12, 2013 at 4:16 AM

thats an absolute joke if sissoko is tae join the soap dodgin bas##rd mackems why would he want to play for the manky mob when he can play in the black and white o the TOON ARMY

  • 25 tweaked // Jan 12, 2013 at 4:18 AM

Still don’t know why we are not trying to get perzella instead he is a quality CB and what we desperately need, this CB still has a lot to learn

  • 26 Kc-Toon // Jan 12, 2013 at 4:39 AM

    Krul
    Debuchy williamson Colo Santon
    Bigi
    Cabaye Anita
    Obertan marv
    Cisse

Team id go for tommorow, Although there isnt really much choice, Perhaps Guti for Bigi, Although Bigi has impressed me so much more than Guti this season. I think id also favour williamson over perch agaisnt norwich , being a more physical team

Just ignore him and interact with other bloggers discussing our transfers and tonight’s name. Sometimes its smarter to walk away than add fire.

back to the blog. I think Okore will be a excellent transfer, way better than Tomkins.

  • 31 Blaydon-Toon // Jan 12, 2013 at 5:32 AM

Ronvam so do you know much about this lad ? Have to say I know zip all about him but the way I see it anyone who comes in at CB has to be better than poor Willo …

  • 32 IITianToon // Jan 12, 2013 at 5:34 AM

    Match day!!!!
Is our game LIVE on any channel by chance? We have lost EVERY game I have watched on stream. Starting from West Ham right till last Everton game.
I say play Cabs from the start and take him off after 60.. whats the point of bringing him on at 80 when the game is more or less decided, especially if we are behind.

  • 33 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jan 12, 2013 at 5:34 AM

    RVD

    Guess you’re right.

Can’t say I know anything about this kid but it sounds like he comes with glowing recommendations from those who have seen him. Also I don’t think Tomkins is a bad player and he has PL experience which will be vital if we lose Colo.

  • 34 Blaydon-Toon // Jan 12, 2013 at 5:37 AM

Ruddy do you ever sleep …. I’m on nightshift so have an excuse to be up at this ungodly hour :-)

I was on an unreal run in FM2013 (I know it sounds mental but when I go on a winning streak I can’t leave it, I get superstitious haha just lost to Wigan away (I’m Ipswich) so it’s bedtime for me now)

    :D

  • 36 RonVanDam // Jan 12, 2013 at 5:42 AM

I’ve seen him play about 4 times. Best way to describe him is , think of Collo in Tiotis body with with Tiotis aggressiveness without the yellow cards. He is absolute tank and times seems to play end to end football with a eye for for goal. Haven’t seen him score any but makes his presence felt in the 18 yard box

  • 37 Kc-Toon // Jan 12, 2013 at 5:55 AM

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eXmH7uoEP4

Thats the only bit of footage i could find of him. He seems a very good technical player for a big lad, Exactly how RVD described him, TIOTCHINIesque. Only worry i have , is wondering why on earth he is so far up the pitch throughout the footage !

  • 38 RonVanDam // Jan 12, 2013 at 6:00 AM

Just want to add, hes not that tall. Looks alot like Wigans Kone in stature. Quicker than Collo :)

Oh yes good old Titus. Thing is everytime he comes to mind now I think of two words: sexual assault.

  • 45 RonVanDam // Jan 12, 2013 at 7:11 AM

On a side note, we should have a summer clear out. 5 players i can see leaving are Vukic (injury prone), mehidi (hype hasnt delivered), Romain (who?), Jonas (can go back with Collo), willo (do i need to explain) and harper (too old).

  • 46 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jan 12, 2013 at 7:12 AM

On Moussa Sissohko – its not midfield players we want. Its at least two defenders and a goalscorer before the close of the transfer window

  • 47 RonVanDam // Jan 12, 2013 at 7:23 AM

    Agree with you Charlie
I would still like us to get Sissohko on a pre contract if we can as a summer signing. Offer him 40k p/w and a 1m sign on bonus as a incentive to turn down other clubs

I have a gut feeling we will win tonight. Theres no way pardew would want to lose against the man he replaced lol.

Also our players are well rested, we have debuecy starting today and cabaye on the bench. Morale should then it wouldve been in weeks as long as collo can keep it together

  • 48 RonVanDam // Jan 12, 2013 at 7:26 AM

**Edit of the last portion of my post.

Morale now should be higher than the last few weeks as long as collo can keep it together

  • 49 Premiership Manager // Jan 12, 2013 at 7:30 AM

Sir Erek thankyou for posting on the topic as I don’t care for the totally unrelated posts draging the forum down.

The lad sounds like a good aquisition however if Colo goes we need a full blooded, experienced PL defender as it would take far to long for a continental defender to settle in, Colo being a typical example.

By my reckoning we need to spend around £20M this window to stay up, 2 CB’s, (hopefully one of which can fill in at FB), a striker and a young talented winger who can retain possesion and actually cross the ball.

We aren’t in a good position and if Colo goes a result will be staying up as the team will be gutted.

Not happy with the situation but thats what you get for supporting the black and white, it’s never straight forward and when something can go wrong it usually does

  • 50 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jan 12, 2013 at 7:53 AM

    Ron VanDam
Is Sissohko that good – then why are Toulouse trying to sell him at a knock down price.
And would he get into our midfield in front of Tiote, Cabaye, Anita, Marvo and Ben Arfa – not to mention Bigiramana. Jonas

  • 51 Mister Tuff // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:02 AM

Charlie @50 Sissohko can leave for free on a “Bosman” in the summer -so the club are obviously trying to recoup something.

  • 52 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:02 AM

He’ll probably cost closer to the £3M mark or less!

…he is a diamond in the rough; we’ll need a starting CB as well ;-)

  • 53 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:09 AM

    Mister Tuff
    Cheers for that

  • 54 revantoon // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:14 AM

@stuart fella you are a total moron! I am mixed race and I’m sick of people like you playing the race card all the time! What ruddy said was a saying, a phrase and meant absolutely nothing. Also how the hell could he have known you were black? Not that it matters as his comment meant nothing. People like you give the rest of us a bad name and should be ashamed! Don’t like English phrases then sod off. I’m black, English and a toon. You are a hate stirring cry baby acussing innocent people of raacism.

  • 55 WWYCD // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:29 AM

Wow I missed a fun stretch on the blog didn’t I?

Never seen this lad play but heard nothing but great things, seems costly for his age but if he lives up to the hype it’ll likely be a fair price. Still need a more senior player with a bit more pedigree imo Sakho, Mbwia or similar

  • 56 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:36 AM

Know nothing about this lad at all but ed i do doubt he looked impressive in the CL seeing as they lost on aggregate to Chelsea 10–1 Juventus 5–1 ans Shakhtar Donetsk 7-2!!!

  • 57 messi_is_king // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:36 AM

I hope Marveaux starts in the centre. And I hope we don’t bloody part exchange him for Remy! He’s been one of our best players when he’s had the chance, he is quality

  • 58 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:39 AM

    Morning,

Just found out it looks like i’ll miss the game today….is it bizarre that I’m gutted? Would have thought it a welcome relief….this club is a drug that can’t be kicked.

As for this Danish CB. Know nothing about him, shall we presume being an international he has at least a little experience? We have some Danish lads on here, what’s the scoop and have you heard anything over your way about this?

  • 59 messi_is_king // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:40 AM

If I could choose a new owner or a new manager I would choose the latter

We have good players, they aren’t being coached to play football under Pardew

Our best players aren’t suited to hoof ball atall they want to play with ball on deck

  • 60 croftus5678 // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:40 AM

toon want this player and he’s not french (so he must be amazing) i do have a lot of respect for holland international players though and i love the wy they are trained and play so if he can get in there team with 6 caps at only 20yo yes i think we should sign him.
i’m thinking of the way santon is (young still learning but still great allready) if this lad is the same where can you go wrong.

True mate but I hope Carr hasent gone off the boil that much and only watches the CL these days ;) seems to impress in the league he is in which is all we can ask for atm

Sounds like a less known Zouma (whom I’d love us to sign) infact fat lad should sign them both and Mbwia for a low fee ;) and he can splash the cash on Sakho, Sissoko and Remy to make us for him being a sh*t in the summer haha

I’m sorry but if it is true and colo wants to go back home to Argentina because his wife left him for getting a girl pregnant, then I think he should buy himself out of his contract,

This is no fault of the club, and we should not lose out because he got caught doing something he should not have been doing, if we let him go for free then we set a president for other players to follow

, I’m sure he has 5 or 6 million , test how much he wants to go back hime

  • 72 danishmag // Jan 12, 2013 at 8:57 AM

He is a great player!! Someone was not impressed because he only played in the danish league.. well, he also played in the champions league for Nordsjælland, against chelsea etc.. him and joshua john( speedy left winger) are the two only players of class.. Okore for 4-5mil is a bargain!! In two years he will be worth 10-12mil.. Better than Agger is his potetial.. mark my words!! Okore is pure class at 20, and world class at 22!

Worrying isn’t it I would of thought if we were serious about incomings they’d of been tied up very early and yet here we wait

So they want Colo to take a huge pay cut (which he ‘needed’ to pay for charities and family etc) and pay himself out of his contract not asking much are they

  • 76 Sawbuck // Jan 12, 2013 at 9:01 AM

Why would Colo colocate because of an affair ? to run after his jilted wife. I don’t believe this.

It reminds me of Ginola’s wife who just hated the area and built a fire under David to get out.

Morning, can we be factual please regards our love…

    Injuries – Pardews fault NO
    BA leaving No
    Tactics – Yes
Kids no good enough yet – NO
    King Collicini (gutted) – NO

For me if we get something out of today thats great, our season starts next week at home with a few players returning from injury. PS …We all support the same team black white …who cares. Changing the manager will not help.and Keegan is still my hero ..and I over 40 yrs old

Colo should have the decency to stay until the summer and then buy his contract out. And give absolutely bloody everything for the cause for the second half of the season.

In the summer he can buy his way out of his contract which has 3 years left (I think?) worth 3m a year. Surely San Lorenzo can come up with 2m and Colo can front 2m so we get roughly half his contract value back. Thats halfway towards what we’d need to spend to replace him plus its our biggest wage off the books.

I’ll miss him but I understand his situation. Family comes before everything. San Lorenzo are behaving like jackals, trying to put pressure for Colo to break his contract. I suppose they’d like him to bring over the deeds to the Falkland Islands when he goes too?

Okore can prove to be a great signing if things unfold like this! He is strong and has really great pace – he proved that in the Champions Legue this year. Also he was given this price as the talent of the year in Danish football. The price though seems pretty overestimated, I would guess 2-3mill pounds would be more likely.
