Loic Remy Expected To Sign For Newcastle This Week

1:13 am, Sunday, January 13th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 82 Comments

We thought Fabricio Coloccini had a good game yesterday at Norwich, given all the stuff going on in his private life, and the shocking news on Friday that he had asked to leave Newcastle immediately, to return to South America.

Loic Remy – Newcastle in the driver’s seat

Alan Pardew has said the matter will be sorted out this week, one way or the other, and we’d love for the Newcastle captain to stay on Tyneside through the end of the season – because we need him.

And there could be a second piece of good news this week, with Sky Sports reporting that Newcastle United are moving closer to signing Loic Remy from Marseilles.

Newcastle are trying to tie up a quick deal, and although Spurs are rumored to have become interested,  Newcastle will try to tie up the deal in the next few days.

Derek LLambias is due to meet for a second time with Marseilles officials in France, and we have tho think Newcastle will offer a more than decent fee to get Loic Remy to Tyneside before next Saturday’s crucial game against Reading at St. James’ Park.

Other clubs such as Arsenal, Queens Park Rangers, Schalke 04 and Napoli have all expressed an interest in the 17 times capped French International striker, but Sky Sports is reporting Newcastle almost have Remy tied up.

Newcastle may surprise us this month, and we wouldn’t be too shocked if the club recruit at least four players, and the club have already signed Mathieu Debuchy, who had a decent enough debut at Norwich yesterday in the 0-0 draw, and getting Remy through the door before next Saturday would be more good news for long suffering Geordie fans.

But Newcastle will not stop there, and we expect at least a minimum of two more players to come through the door, in addition to Debuchy and Remy, and if Coloccini leaves, we expect Newcastle to bring an another center back to replace him.

What do you think?

Hope its concluded soon, then we still need Yanga Mbiwa (£6m), Scott Sinclair (on loan), Sissoko (£2.5m) and if Colo leaves sign Douglas for the £2m if not get him to sign a pre contract.. That would be an excellent window, give the team a boost. And it wouldn’t require MA to dig too deep in fairness?

    First? That’s weird.

  • 3 toonicle // Jan 13, 2013 at 1:24 AM

Aww just missed. Either way this is some good news we really need!

  • 4 fergies left foot // Jan 13, 2013 at 1:27 AM

    just get it done..

also two centerbacks (one of them comfortable on the left) a la verthongen and one combative box to box midfielder with presence like dembele, fellaini, toure.

    Id have 1. Okore/Kurt Zouma/Haidara 2. Pieters 3. Sissoko/Mvila/

Won’t believe it til he’s pictured in a toon top, but….. Please please be true!

    Good good

  • 8 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 1:37 AM

In reality a striker and a cb are a must for this window, anything on top is a bonus. If colo leaves its a big ask to replace him for the money we will receive (if anything?) just like it will be for Ba. I just hope our targets decide sooner rather than later and hopefully we are pinning our hopes on them and setting ourselves up for a fall. No excuses this window when recruits are a must. If we had the cojones to say to Ba his new contract offer will only be left on the table for so long then why can’t we do that with signings? Because its easier to sell top players than to buy them.

  • 9 nufc786 // Jan 13, 2013 at 1:37 AM

  • 10 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 1:39 AM

Also if we do sign Remy it will be an added bonus for slapping old sloppy chops in the face for telling the whole world about Ba’s release clause. Pr1ck!

  • 11 theroosta // Jan 13, 2013 at 1:48 AM

Its gud to get positive news on thw transfer front, remy may be costing 10 million and with debuchy Who was 5 mill or thereabouts, and hopefully a quality centre half or two mmmm why not dream, then it would look like decent window for us, that said it is nothing short of a must to get new blood in to the club.

Oh and alan free the players up to play a bit eh, we are playing like rabbits in the headlights we are scared to death to get beat, at home we must go for it more, we really dont need two defensive midfielders in the team ie perch n jonas, we need goals, we need 3 points, we need the crowd behind us, and we need to attack, as we should always do at the cathedral!!

  • 12 banjax // Jan 13, 2013 at 1:57 AM

Let us hope that whoever we bring in will be top quality. We need replacements for BA (and hopefully not Colo) as well as 2 more defenders, a midfielder, and another striker. Under the circumstances it maybe a blessing in disguise that were out of all compo’s except Europe, because we need to have Toon in the Premiership next season, and less games will help us with achieving that. Fingers crossed we have some new players in before the next home match !

Look’s like Coloccini is staying and everything is working out.

    10mill for Tomkins…

Almost makes it look like Liverpool got a bargain when they bought Carroll off us.

  • 21 p // Jan 13, 2013 at 2:38 AM

Who and how many we sign is a guessing game.

My guess is 2 pricey signings (a CB and a CF) and a cheaper young’n

If they are good that will do me as I think that will almost certainly assure survival with the other top guys (Cabaye, Tiote, HBA) coming back.

We really need someone who can score goals and someone who can stop them and replace Willo.

If we get these 2 and we don’t turn things around, we need to replace the manager as the problems will be system not ability of players.

  • 22 Heinesen // Jan 13, 2013 at 2:41 AM

I agree English players are overrated and too expensive…but maybe we can make a exchange deal who include Simpson

I think you’re expecting a bit much there Ed! By all accounts another toothless display going forward today but at least we kept a clean sheet. From little acorns grow big trees n all that. Still need a top quality CB in pronto MA, speculate to accumulate. Preferably before the ice caps melt would be good!

  • 25 jimmysmith // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:21 AM

We took a calculated risk and sailed oblivious and headlong into a “perfect storm.”

Ash is likely highly embarrassed and feeling obligated to fix it, along with the accompanying business imperatives, I think 4, or even 5 in, is well on the cards.

  • 26 Kyo // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:57 AM

If Remy doesn’t regain past form he’ll be worse than Obertan.

  • 27 RonVanDam // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:33 AM

@ 20 Anita one bites the dust

What is Pardew thinking going for Tomkins as direct replacement for Collo. I dont understand why he doesnt go for German Pezella whom we were linked with about 6-7 months ago. Thats a direct like to like replacement

Dont know why pardew keeps going to his old club for players. Anyone also notice WH going after any player we are linked with?

  • 28 89Norcal // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:09 AM

RVD, our targets have all been linked with a number of the same clubs; tottenham, arsenal, qpr, sunderland.

  • 29 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:35 AM

I doubt its a direct replacement. We were linked with him before this whole farce surrounding Colo.

But I’d be gutted if he was the CB we brought it. I’d much rather we want after a center back in a similar mold to Younes Kaboul.

  • 30 DevonToon // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:57 AM

Is no one worried bought signing remy? Earlier this year he told freinds he mite quit football all together!?!? Un doubted quality like, but OM say hes propet unfit and iv read his head aint in the right place…. lets say he does sign, and gets no service (more than likely) and his fragile head drops more, he’ll be a total waste of cash! 9-10mill is quite a wod in Toon turms these days

  • 31 89Norcal // Jan 13, 2013 at 6:12 AM

Remy is just in the same boat that many out-of-favor players are. Sakho was in the same position a few months ago, may still be – getting more bench time and not seeing eye-to-eye with the Manager.

Sometimes players just need a morale boost, which Remy would get playing here with national teammates. I hear he gets on well with Ben Arfa.

He’s also supposed to be the link between our midfield and frontline, as will hatem when he returns.

  • 32 Kyo // Jan 13, 2013 at 6:13 AM

I reckon OM will be laughing all the wsy to the bank.

  • 37 Rozzy // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:09 AM

Hope we get him in ASAP. Every defence in the Prem will fear a srtikeforce of 10 Ben Arfa – 9 Cisse – 11 Remy. If Colo goes I would love to see Yanga-Mbiwa. Top quality defender who would make a great captain in a few years time.

  • 38 89Norcal // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:19 AM

Mbiwa would be too expensive for us if we bought Remy.

I could see us spending 10-14m this window, but close to 20m? Probably not. Mbiwa is worth 7-8m I hear.

  • 39 Sir Braveheart // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:39 AM

Who knows how much Ashley is willing to spend, but its obvious we’re desparate for addition players to boost our squad, I wouldnt be surprised to see two new further additions who, like Debuchy, could slot straight into the first team, and maybe a development squad addition or two.

  • 40 Sir Braveheart // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:45 AM

    @Anita one…
10m for Tomkins!? Time to look elsewhere I think. If it was 4-5 m then Id say okay, but not 10m. Big Sams having a laugh there.

  • 41 89Norcal // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:51 AM

Hope so Braveheart. But when you consider we’re already +500k in net spend after the Debuchy deal; 20m+ is a lot for a club like us with an owner like us.

I’m guessing MA is telling the coaching staff “Ok, I’ll buy you the shiny 10m toy, but you can forget about the others”

    I mean Remy + Alderweireld/Tomkins/Mbiwa + Sissoko = ~22m. Would be nice but it’s a stretch I’m sure.

  • 42 jeff // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:52 AM

10 m for tomkins is pretty good value. Hes a future england star and has all the attributes to make it on the big stage.

  • 43 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:55 AM

10mill for tomkins makes 35mill for Carroll look cheap.

  • 44 cyprus // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:09 AM

Never seen his Remy, hope he hits the ground running if we sign him, as Cisse is totally lost at the moment. Yesterday, he was a yard short in all through balls and when crosses came in he would not just grab them like Ba does. When he did get the ball he’d just randomly shoot, trying to do a Chelsea, which will never happen again. 3 points for his performance. 10 for Krul, especially given he saved Debuchy’s debute, when the latter was totally turned… Debuchy was ok, scoring a 5. Gave away many dangerous fouls, clearly left the right side open with a player ready to fire in, many times. Of course this was just a first game. Attack? Simpson did more. Colo an 8, was solid, Williamson too (7), did his job, hoofed it a few times, but that’s what CBs should do in hard situations. Ober, the usual, apart from a great shot. I still haven’s seen him dribble past a player, if anyone has video footage would be appreciated. Anita Marveaux had decent games (7), though they didn’t have anyone to aim for, given Cisse’s predicament. Guti is just not himself anymore (6) and Cabaye is miles away from the feisty, determined player of last season.AP? I don’t know, we are so desperate now I’ll take the point and so will he. Bigi for Anita a bad substitution and Ranger for Cisse did not happen, a fact that guaranteed we wouldnt score

  • 45 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:10 AM

Toby alderweireld was linked with a 9 million pound move to spurs in the summer. If he is available for under 10m I would certainly try and get him over Tompkins. Why shop in England for those prices when you can go abroad and get better for less.

  • 46 davybtoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:10 AM

I reckon we will sign 2 players this week don’t kno who but am hoping sissohko n a cb

  • 47 Slank // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:13 AM

    RonVanDam @ 27

‘… Pardew thinking going for Tomkins as direct replacement for Collo..’

I don’t think that’s the case as Tomkins would have been watched and researched weeks / months before Colo made his sudden announcement.

The club has a real problem with Colo as its his family that is the problem and employers always are sympathetic to employees with family trouble.

  • 48 89Norcal // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:16 AM

Sissoko is a steal IMO at 3-3.5m, but again, our owner is MA and we don’t really NEED another defensive midfielder, though he’d probably be great on the attack as well.

  • 49 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:16 AM

…I am pretty sure we won’t sign anyone this week since it is Sunday 😉

I am not sure what to expect this transfer window ’cause if we were really serious and had alot of money to spend then syrely something had happened by now.

For me it suggest if we are buying it won’t be for much; that is why we are taking our time (hope I am wrong; otherwise get a move on will you ;-))

  • 50 davybtoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:22 AM

We crying out for a sissohko someone who will win then has the ability to drive up the pitch 40/50 yards with it, just like diame did for west ham v us

  • 51 Bambams // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:22 AM

Watched the ‘lowlights’ when i got in…………

We have time to turn this around and finish in top half, but to do this we have to play football, we need the new faces to give the players a lift and we must try and change our free kicks and corner set plays.

  • 52 catchy in norway // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:24 AM

No one can look at new signings to dig us out of trouble, the manager has to be brave and go for results not just hope we will win

Draws against teams like Norwich will do us no good , these games are 6 pointers, if we want to get out of this mess we have to play teams like Norwich villa reading and go all out for the win

I don’t care what anyone says , we had a pretty strong side out yesterday and looked very poor , and still no game plan

For all obertans pace , it never gets used , I think he is a shit footballer but the kid does have pace , use that , frighten teams if he is not going to use it why is he on the pitch

Please watch the highlights , Norwich broke , 3v2 perch sprinted back and cleared the ball, you can see obertan jogging on the spot (lol) still in there 18 y box ,

Yesterday we were 2 players away from our best team ben10 tiote , and we looked very poor

  • 53 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:26 AM

Trouble is Davy I’m yet to see many so that in our league, if sissoko is a box to box midfielder then he could certainly come in handy. Yaya toure is a great exactly of someone with drive, Diame is another and Ramires at Chelsea is capable of doing it. I’m just not sure where we could accommodate him, Anita, cabaye, tiote and even Marv in the middle. It would be excellent depth but our defensive and striking options are more in need

  • 54 Rozzy // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:27 AM

Yanga-Mbiwa would be a perfect fit for us. I think MA would invest if we get decent money for Collocini (won’t happen).

  • 55 yorkymag // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:28 AM

    Tomkins clearly splits opinion
I think he will be a good buy and will grow into an outstanding defender. He will fit straight in and make us stronger, much more so than someone joining from overseas.
The good news is it will be no where near 10 million.allardyce does not like Tomkins and the feeling seems more than mutual .now that’s a good start.
He wants new players at west ham ,but has to sell to buy 5m tops but it will be late in the window for me,maybe that is the chat with collo -can you give us another three weeks and then…..

    We will see

  • 56 nico // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:33 AM

You think if Collo goes we’ll bring in 5 new players. I’d love to see it especially if they were ready to play first team football.
To be realistic, I think they’ll bring in Remy and one centre back to go with Debuchy and hope to keep Collo.
We will here to samne old stories of how hard it was to negotiate transfers etc. Ashley’s plan is simple. Maintain Newcastle’s Prem status and make money. I think Ash will see 3 players as more then enough to see us stay in the league. With teams like Villa, Reading etc it shouldn’t be that hard. It’s a shame he doesn’t have aspirations for anything higher

The big miss yesterday was surely Steven Taylor for willo ,I am also not so sure that Tiotie adds much on current form.

  • 59 89Norcal // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:40 AM

I don’t think we could accommodate Anita, Cabaye, Sissoko, and Tiote at the same time unless Anita played on the left wing. One would have to be on a rotation.

This would be bold and interesting

Or a 4-5-1 with the same players? keep our dominance in the midfield and push men forward when necessary on the attack.

  • 60 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:42 AM

At the start of the window i wanted a cb and a fb and then a replacement for whoever leaves. Same still stands but if colo leaves I’m not so sure I can see two cb’s coming in. Four players in 30 days seems a big push for us and if we do get a cb and a replacement for Ba I cannot wait to hear how greatful we should be to big mike for allowing these deals to go ahead

  • 61 cyprus // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:42 AM

This was an ok result, given our total lack of confidence at the moment. Awooden performance, cagey. I predict we’ll be getting many draws in the second half of the season, but some of them must be turned to wins. Incredibly, the games we had vs. manu, city and even Arsenal(!), showed that we can turn up and be competitive. Our fellow relegation candidates are going for it and so should we. There are plenty of points to play for, still. If (only if) we should lose the next two games (6 pointers), AP must be fired. A new manager can get you 10 points just through a wind of change mentality,.

  • 62 cyprus // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:44 AM

please don’t do that with imaginary players, dude

  • 63 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:48 AM

Rozzy what in earth was that? 1:2:2:1:2:2?

Norcal with the current crop we have and sissoko we could probably make a better 4:2:3:1 or a 4:3:2:1seen as we have no real quality wingers.

    —–tiote— sissoko—

Could easily add Remy, marveaux or obertan to that and alternate hba and Anita. Width providing by the fb’s

A draw isn’t the end of the world, shame we didn’t draw those 9 games we lost.

  • 64 cyprus // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:48 AM

I have no intention to side MA, but surely you realise that is NOT his plan, come on. Have you been involved in business? If you have or ever will, do not buy a football club in order to make money.

  • 65 89Norcal // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:51 AM

@nick9, you’re probably right, Tiote, Anita, and Sissoko seem incrementally better at venturing forward compared to each other, with Sissoko probably being the most capable.

So as long as Sissoko was given license to push higher, and keep cabaye closer to Cisse to establish that much needed link. I could see that being dangerous. Poor man’s Yaya Toure but a decent on nonetheless :)

  • 66 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:54 AM

A lot of posters on here have been have been on here
for weeks moaning about transfers, and Remy this, and Remy that? Now the club have gone for him and some of the same posters are now doubting his mentality and commenting about his mentality etc!

Are you lot ever, ever. Satisfied ?

We need a Striker Big-time, there are also at least a CB and another defender needed! I have my doubts about Tompkins? Can,t undertsand why Fat Sam wants rid and we want to sign him and the 10 Mil Price tag? There is much better out there for 5Mil?

Debuchy played decent yesterday, but 1 played and 1 yellow? Hope that does,nt set the tone, he was lucky not to take a second yellow and get a Red on his debut!

We are still, down there and will have to fight to get something out of our next two games. Both teams did,nt play well yesterday, and the difference for me was; we were solider at the back with Debuchy there, there was a bit of the confidence at the back with him there!

Williamson is still garbage and i worry whenever i see him in the back four. We should beat the Villains and Reading but our form recently has been abyssmal!

Some of the injuries are clearing up, things are on the Up!

  • 67 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:55 AM

Norcal – checked your link and i like that too. I just don’t think we’re being given enough in return from obertan and I don’t want to start Jonas bashing but for all the running he does he offers little else. I think both would be better as impact subs or moved on.

This window could show a real statement of intent. If I go through the squad list there’s only about 15 senior players I think offer something in return, the rest are just taking up valuable squad places

  • 68 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:59 AM

Newexpatmag – it’s only natural tomquestion him given he is out of favour but if we do make a move for him then we know Carr approves. Looking at all our recent signings the only ones who have offered little so far is gosling and obertan but even obertan shows glimpses

  • 69 cyprus // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:59 AM

you are obviously biased. If you have recorded the game, count how many times Williamson cleared vs. Debuchy, even though I’m not a Will fan.

    @Nick 9,
Yes Obertan shows flashes of good play, but he’s so inconsistent and I don’t understand. His role is simple for his skill set: attack the fullback with his pace and dribbling and cross it in.

Seems like he’s another victim of low confidence in the squad. Marveaux is suffering as well. I’m guessing when Taylor and Cabaye are both fully fit it will make the difference, since the press is also magnifying the injury crisis.

Agree on Jonas, but dare I saw we missed him in that Arsenal game :X That’s one thing his work rate is good for; slowing the other team down in midfield.

‘..Debuchy played decent yesterday, but 1 played and 1 yellow? Hope that does,nt set the tone,…’

He has a long way to go before he beats Perch premiership yellow card record. I think it will take quite a few games before we see the real Debuchy.

Remember how everyone wanted to get rid of Perch. Not so now I bet. That race back to rob the Norwich player in our penalty box typifies his attitude and commitment. We need others to show the same desire.

    Was it a 433 yesterday?
Cause it seemed more like a 451 and Cisse being the 1 a long way up the field from the others.
I’m starting to lose patience with Obertan as I’ve been tryin to give the lad the benefit of the doubt and time but as we all can see the lad has bags of talent but he’s got the bags tied and I think his time s running out,he’s not 19 he’s actually been in England 5 years and 3 of those at the best learning academy in the world.
Looked yesterday with the substitution that AP is giving up on him too,he’s had loads of time on the field to get it together, sorry lad but adios
Jonas and Santon have to sort out those runs, double ups as Santon can’t get back if he’s furthest up the field and we looked very open there at times yesterday.
Jonas must check in for him if he lets him by him, otherwise Santon will have to check his runs and defend a little more.
It’s leaving Collo exposed and vulnerable

    Remy worse than obertan?

  • 80 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 13, 2013 at 9:16 AM

Tomkins would be more than 4-5 mil mate they wanted £5.5 mil when they were in the fizzy pop and he’s signed a new contract since then there not just going to let him go cheap
Personally think anything over 3-4 mil for this lad is way too much he’s a poor defender who is no better than willo if anything he’s more lightweight slower and has the turning circle of a cruise liner

I always try and not to be too biased but i think i am not the only one on here who is of the same opinion about Willo!

I can think of at least one game where his mistakes have cost us points !

Good news on Remy on other posts today, should have him signed soon, but not on time for Reading i fear!
