Marseilles, Newcastle Reach Agreement On Fee – Remy In Talks

3:35 pm, Sunday, January 13th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 533 Comments

Things seem to be moving very quickly as Newcastle are very near to signing Marseilles striker Loic Remy and Joey Barton has wished his team-mate all the best and has told him what to expect at the Newcastle club – so does that mean it’s official. :D.

Loic Remy -300x168

Loic Remy – should soon be a Newcastle player

And it’s getting very near to being a done deal it seems,  as Marseilles President Vincent Labrune has now confirmed the following to the RMC Sport radio station in France:

“We have an agreement in principle with Newcastle, it is true,” “We have therefore given Loic permission to chat with them. For the rest, we must wait patiently.”

And it is being reported that Remy has left the Marseilles squad preparing for their game against Sochaux  this afternoon, in order to talk to Newcastle and possibly agree to terms,  and then the medical in Newcastle would be the next step, and perhaps he could fly back with Derek LLambias,  who is in France negotiating the deal.

And Joey Barton, who Newcastle allowed to move to QPR on a free transfer eighteen months ago, even though he one year left on his contract, tweeted this today:

“Good luck to Loic in Newcastle. Don’t worry I’ve told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him.”

Nothing is official yet – but with any luck Newcastle could have the lad signed sometime tomorrow, and that would mean he would be available for the game against Reading next Saturday, and could also have a full week of training with his new team mates.

And if Newcastle can pull this off, Derek LLambias appears to have done a good job in getting this deal completed so soon, and Alan Pardew said this morning the Managing Director was working on three or four deals, not just one, and that some were warming up.

There could be even more than one signing in the coming week.

Very good news. Hopefully there are no issues with wages and his medical. This will be an excellent signing if we pull this off.

  • 2 Toon73 // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:38 PM

    Get it done

  • 3 ToonDownSouth // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:39 PM

    Remy’s medical will take at least a month. Let’s not hold our breath (;

  • 4 Jan Stavik // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:40 PM

Great news! Throw him in, the sooner Obertan is out of the team the better. No passion, no grit, no confidence. What a waste of talent…

  • 5 Jonny // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:40 PM

We all know how good our new starting IX is on form, would match any team in uk, most in Europe. Question is, how often will they all be playing together on form? Unfortunately there will always be a perch or Jonas in it. Back up players aren’t good enough, do like perch but won’t win us trophies.

    Ooooo orgasmic, whose next!

excellent news! bring on reading! remy will tear them up!

  • 8 gonufc (up and Hatem) // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:41 PM

Exciting, my only worry is his form of the last 6 months or so, hoping it’s not a torres situation!

Then again, Remy, Cisse and HBA as a front three is pretty saucy!

  • 9 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:42 PM

    big big signing

  • 10 Spreadthetoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:43 PM

Can anyone tell me how they think Remy and

Cisse will link up together. Do we see Remy as part of a three upfront with either Marv/HBA tucked behind Cisse or do we see this as a potential partnership in a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1…..either way who sits at the top and holds up play. Not sure playing Cisse on the wings has improved his game….sadly his first touch was not great yesterday, but he had no support and very poor service until Cabaye came on where there was something? Btw has Cisse lost a little pace this season………really hard to tell with him running around in acres of space without any black and white nearby?

Btw fingers crossed Remy deal is signed up and sealed… will be a gr8 signal to other players thinking of joining us…especially if we already have signed 2 v.v.good int’l french players this window!

I see there is a flight from Paris CDG arriving at Newcastle at 4pm this afternoon -this is the 4.15pm scheduled flight. Next one from Paris is 9.20pm tonight.

if ba passed his medical at chelsea, trust me Loic Remy wont have any trouble here, his club president told last moth that there is no issues with his past injuries and he is fit and ready to play, but giganac was back and he is the main striker and is scoring goals, sooo.. he is availiable, and we have bought him. Cisse Ba wasn’t good, but Cisse Remy should work well, and we should play on the ground and pass the ball, Alan knows that kind of football and he wanted it from the start but there was other excusses, so if this time we won’t play a beatifully and WINING games since cabaye is back then i will be mad at pardew.. Not now thou, i supported and will support him all through this rough run..

  • 13 moonraker // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:45 PM

If we can get this deal overthe line;and I think we will, then I think some teams are in for a hammering in the back end of the season, starting with Reading next week, because the confidence this signing (and Debuchy) will give the squad is immeasurable.

The thought of Loic, Papiss and later on Ben Arfa up front is awesome.

This signing may even be enough to persuade Colo to stay.

  • 14 wreker16 // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:46 PM

If remy comes in, whilst Ben arfa is out, where do you put him in the lineup? Get rid of obertan or Gutierrez?

  • 15 Jarralad // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Afternoon guys, excellent news regarding Remy, anyone heard from Niafron about our two French Cenre-halves and Sissoko?

  • 16 magpie6699 // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Spread – won’t he have to get from Marseilles? Must be regular flights to Paris but there’s nothing direct to Newcastle these days.
Just in time for the snow coming. Hope it doesn’t put him off!

  • 17 Spreadthetoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:51 PM

If Dekka’s over there he probably went by MAs Heli, so I suppose Remy would be sitting on his knee on the way back to SJP…… could be a deal breaker..LOL 🙁

  • 18 Bambams // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:52 PM

    Great to read !

Right lets hope one of the deals is for a ‘CB’…….

We are desperate to get someone to shore up the defence!

  • 19 Jail for Ashley // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:53 PM

If the Remy transfer happens and it’s looking likely, if we then could bring in experienced CB and those two young lads from Burnley that Transfer sage said were in Newcastle I’d be over the moon, but me being me will still have a bit of a moan why it wasn’t done in the summer, and those Ashley supporters starting to come out and call people like me morons who don’t like like the Ashley regime might want to remember that this seemingly spurt in transfer activity doesn’t seem to me like he’s wanting to take us to the next level but rather more the case of keeping his eye on the supposed 70M TV money next year, I reiterate no matter what people think about Pards and I am starting to lose faith in him as well if all these supposed targets were brought in during the summer, Spurs , Arsenal and maybe Everton would be seriously looking over their shoulders at us.

  • 20 bettyswallocks // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:53 PM

Lets just hope we can play a system that suits him and the other technical players we have.

Can t see it though with Pardew at the helm.

  • 21 magpie6699 // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:54 PM

Thinking about the snow – seem to recall the story about when Tino arrived in Newcastle to biting winds and snow. He was said to be wondering why he had come – then they took him to the Bigg Market to see the lasses in their micro-mini skirts – and he changed his mind!!

  • 22 Marty-Toon // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:54 PM

    To Kets from last post
    206Marty-Toon // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:44 PM

Manu are not just good in attack, their team attacks as a whole.
The commentators yesterday on MOD said that the difference between City,Chelsea n Manu is that when they all play well they usually win but when they play badly only Manu win and that’s a lot of the time.
Evra’s way better than Santon,Debuchy could be as good If not better than Rafael.
Collo is a very different player to Vidic, don’t know if he’s better though.
Vidic is way better in the air, both in attack and defence and he’s quicker.
Collo is a better ball player.
Ben Arfa is a better player than Valencia I agree on his day and Nani I don’t even rate,he’s just another Obertan if ya ask me-little end product.
Cleverly Carrick and Scholes is a great midfield, they pressurize and get the ball back when lost and keep the ball well when they have it unlike our Jonas,Tiote,Anita midfield
Now I believe that if we had Ben Arfa(LW),Cabaye,Tiote (back to his old self),Anita then we’d have a midfield to reckon with

  • 23 yorkymag // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:54 PM

If this comes of its amazing
Never thought we had a chance of doing this deal
Credit where it’s du well done dastasdly

  • 24 t00ntime // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:55 PM

i think we will try and use remy in a hba role. for me this formation is perfect because you can make it more attacking/defensive with 0/1 sub. and with a small squad thats what we need imo a versitile formation, for example if needed/wanted you swap cabaye and anita and put marv as CAM.

    another option that looks good

again the midfield can be easily made more attacking/defensive if needed.

  • 25 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:57 PM

Santon’s been the best wingback in the league this season. He’ll certainly be getting player of the season for us. Evra was very good when he was at Monaco, but he doesn’t get as forward as much as he used to.

  • 26 Magpie from Lithuania // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:57 PM

i think after remy we will get two defenders if colo is leaving (probably Tomkins or Okore and Mirin or Douglas), and Bong in for competition and for Simpson, who i believe will be sold (as Santon can Cover RB if needed).

That french midfielder M.Sissoko will probably be on a precontract or something simmilar to Cabaye’s arival.

But i don’t think that we will be paying 8M for M’Vila (or whatever is he called)

  • 27 Adopted_Geordie // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:58 PM

    quote from wiki:
“On January 13 2013, it was said by Marseille teammate Joey Barton that Remy would be joining Newcastle. The two clubs agreed a deal, believed to be £8.3 million. It is understood that Sunderland AFC paid for his flight to Newcastle.”

  • 28 ToonDownSouth // Jan 13, 2013 at 3:58 PM

I agree. Over the moon if we sign Remy – as I was with Debuchy – and I’ll be very happy if we add a CB and keep Colo, but there are serious serious questions as to why it was not done earlier – especially after releasing 3 very handy squad players.

Pardew keeps saying that they ‘made a mistake thinking they were OK’, but it seems to me that he’s just covering for the board. Pardew spent the whole summer talking about how desperate he was for signings, then magically changes his mind the second he realises they’re not coming. I feel bad for the guy to be honest.

Spelling I know but you catch my drift…

    2 defenders please 🙂

  • 31 TheToonKing // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:04 PM

If this happens i’ll be very happy, but am a little surprised by this signing.

Remy is great but not sure where he fits in. I think he might be put on the wing.

He is similar to both Ba an Cisse insome respects but i don’t see him complimenting Cisse, just like Ba didn’t.

Remy is a pure striker. On the plus side he is quick, real quick. Paciest player in our squad by a mile. On the downside he has no left foot.

I would have liked more of a CF, ballplaying all around type striker, like Persie, Rooney etc.

  • 35 Spreadthetoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:06 PM

Yeah it gives us the ability to be fluid without any change in personnel i.e. subs which can be very advantageous.
I guess my main concern is link up play with Cisse and how we get the lad banging in goals for us like he did last season… I say I think Remy is gr8 news but as his assist rate is not prolific,,,,what I am asking is how the two will work together. Don’t want to see another Ba/Cisse partnership where there is a conflict of interests……would like to see another striker as we’re still short up front! Good news any how just intrigued in the detail as to how they’re gonna work together.

  • 36 Charlietoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:06 PM

I thought the news as of a week ago was that we had agreed a fee but Remy wanted to wait until later in Jan to see what other offers came up. How you are publishing new articles about this every hour ED is truly a journalistic wonder.

  • 37 Graeme // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:07 PM

Surely Remy will be on a private plane into Newcastle – cant see them waiting for a commercial flight to Paris, then the BA to Heathrow – maybe catch the 1800 out of Kings Cross lol

  • 38 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:07 PM

We could sell Tiote to Man Utd for £15m and sign Sissoko and M’vila for of combined total of £10m. Man Utd also want Cabaye for £20m. I would’ve rather seen us get rid of Tiote than Ba. We should’ve renewed Ba’s contract.

  • 39 Marty-Toon // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:12 PM

Santon is not the best wing back this season,Baines,Bale,Cole etc etc
He’s good goin forward but has given us huge problems with is defending.
He’s continually out of position but is definitely improving and has quality

  • 40 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:14 PM

Yeah i have to echo what others have said that it should have been done in the summer, it has wasted a season for us but at least we know the club are trying now eh? If we do sign Remy and a Cb you have to look at some of the recent signings and see that surely we must have improved overall on quality.

    Remy ?
    Cb ?

Biggest loss is Ba and its a shame we didnt bring in a third choice striker to replace best and lover but we might still yet. This window could give us a much needed lift, if we get a cb i will feel much better about things despite the past 15 games. I’m not expecting miracles from new signings but we have a good record lately and its the intent that counts.

  • 41 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:14 PM

Man Utd have got mid-table standard players and it’s only Sir Alex Ferguson who’s making the difference. On paper, we do have better players, but we need to start playing more as a team.

  • 46 Marty-Toon // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:23 PM

Well of course a manager of the caliber of the old one with the Big Red Nose would make a difference to any team,he takes no prisoners and expects his lads to put in a shift(as AP calls it) and if they don’t then they get moved on to us like Obertan and Simmo did.

  • 47 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:23 PM

It’s a toss up between Santon and Baines. Santon is a very good defender. His defending yesterday was top class. He also clears the ball well, unlike Willo. We do need a bigger player in the middle of the park. Sissoko would be an ideal signing.

Anyone think we’ll go back in for Kevin Gameiro?

After what Jayphoto posted about that Maiga last week I wouldn’t be unhappy if we signed him.

  • 56 bills-son // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:33 PM

Jail, if Remy signs and we get another one or two quality signings and all Ashley gets is hammer for not signing them in the summer, I think thats harsh.

We should have signed in the summer but nobody expected the injuries, suspensions and loss of form to compound the situation to the point where we are currently fourth bottom.

I’ve always judged people by how they react when things go wrong or they’ve fkd up. If Ashley brings in a few quality players this month you have to give him credit for recognising his mistake and reacting positively. Plenty on here forecast he’d spend sweet fa or buy cheap.

Arl the best, lets hope your hero Ashley has a few more belated pressies for you.

He just posted a good article about how that just because he doesn’t fit into FSA style of play doesn’t necessarily make him a bad player and after all we did seem to want him last year, Jayphoto seems to spend a bit of time in different places and comes across as though he knows his stuff and said he has watched him play a few times.

  • 69 Spreadthetoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:50 PM

  • 70 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 4:51 PM

interest snippet from Spreads BBC article:
“The average January outlay of the last 15 relegated clubs was £2.47m (£0.75m net), compared to the £4.4m (£3.75m net) paid by the eight teams who were in the relegation zone on 1 January but survived.

Of the eight sides who went down at their expense, the average spend was £2.65m (£0.9m net). Was it a surprise that Newcastle slipped from 14th to 19th in 2009 when their net spend was £-7.9m?
With hindsight, the Magpies might have opted to keep hold of Shay Given and Charles N’Zogbia. Likewise, Blackburn with Christopher Samba last January and Bolton with Gary Cahill in the same window”

Hi all, sorry to bring the Coloccini thing back in at this hour, but my hunch on something in his personal life is more than likely incorrect, which is not a bad thing as it suggests that the situation is repairable.

I knew that there were health issues in his family (not the missus), and I though that a particular situation had changed for the worse, but it appears that is not the case after all. Having said that, its also not the perennial case of homesickness attributed to his wife or the rumour about him playing away.

It appears to be something within the club after all, which is why I say that maybe talks behind the scenes may turn it around. Seems that the rumours of disagreements behind the scenes may be well founded, and it looks like we will all find out exactly what the problem really is soon enough. Suffice to say it currently makes Colo feel his position is so untenable he would prefer to go sooner rather than later even if he cant bring himself to force the issue with a full-on transfer request, or maybe its a way to force a showdown in a ‘either he goes or me’ style?

  • 74 mattnufc // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Has anyone mentioned how little the Norwich threat down the right was while (..ahem..) Jonas was in the team? Or did Santon coincidentally defend much better than in his last Half dozen matches?

Mind I will concede Jonas’ final ball into the area was no better dear oh dear.

Billson, thats a fair point re Ashley. I’ve panned him many time sin the past as you know, and deservedly so. I’m a very fair kind of person, and if we can sort Remy, them well done to him. Mind you, if we buy more, we may buy none in the summer??!! I didnt see the Norwich highlights but from what i heard on the radio, we were awful. Pardew looked like a man facing the firing squad when i saw him on Sky.

Really pleased if we get remy, i have no problem at all with our recruitment policy, yes a few more should have been brought in a bit quicker, however the quality we now have at the club for the money spent is second to non.

However the question for everyone is if Remy had of played yesterday instead of say Obertan, would we have setup or performed any differently.

I think that the answer is no, and that is due to having somebody completely out of his depth as manager, really has no idea of how to get his team to be a decent fluent attacking force.

Looking forward to Pardew selecting Shola over Remy and Jonas over Marv when everyones fit.

  • 82 Spreadthetoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:07 PM

I’d back Collo 100%, hopefully it is salvageable… did see Collo smile v. briefly @ Norwich so perhaps things aren’t as bleek as they seem. Suspect the difference is between AP and Collo….not the 1st time he’s pissed Argentinian players before….lost the dressing room at West Ham with Tevez and Mascarano. Hopefully it can be resolved internally otherwise we could see a massive divide in the dressing room. I suspect given the mild and timid nature most people will back Collo, so AP has to back down and find some middle ground.

  • 83 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:14 PM

Unfortunatly whether we like it or bit as long as ashley backs him pardew hasnt got to do anything, whilst if it is a problem between him n colo it would be in his intrest to sort it peacefully he doesnt have to at the end of the day he’s the gaffer and that really is as simple as that
I dont think the board would sack a manager because a player is threating to leave when would it end, the players would have to much power in the dressing room
Plus if it is down to a barny im sorry but colo has zero leverage, the club he wants to go to have no money and colo signed a huge new contract so he’s pretty stuck tbh

  • 84 mattyNUFC // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:15 PM

are you saying you’ve heard HBA and Colo have had a bust up so severe each is threatening to leave if the other does not?

I can’t believe that, not in the slightest. what i can believe is both colo and HBA having bust ups with AP, which both have been reported/rumoured

  • 85 Spuggy // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:16 PM

Funny he seemed to do a canny job last season. Oh wait that was luck for 38 games.

  • 86 Munster Mag // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:16 PM

Unless some of these muted signings are real characters, my concern would be hat we lack the motivation to fight out of this mess. Could anyone see us doing what Reading did yesterday? Thats one of the reasons I dont think Pardew is the man for us even if we survive – whatever way you look at it, we can surely do better.

  • 87 Spreadthetoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:16 PM

This was on Friday…. so I think PEA is still ON!

On the occasion of the reception of Toulouse (2-2), Newcastle has paved the way for a transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. At halftime of the game, in the salons presidential Geoffroy Guichard, scout debauched by the English club met with the entourage of the Gabon striker. A source close to the club’s management, however, no offers submitted on Friday.

This M’vila guy is a trouble maker.. Before the match here i norway(the last Qualifier for u21/23) they went out on the town and party all night.. so hes suspende for several matches for the national team.. but hes a great talent an a very skillful and strong lad..

  • 89 Transfer Sage // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:18 PM

    Bills son

The test for me is not whether Ashley buys now, it’s what happens in the summer.

It’s obvious he needs to spend now, we all see it. But I will give him credit for spending wisely if we get remy and a CB in, can’t knock him at all

The key is will he learn from his summer mistake. The mistake was presuming because the the team played well we could get but with only one first team signing.

If we finish well hopefully he ha learned you still need 2-3 new faces to kick people on their toes and provide a boost.

  • 90 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:21 PM

Im not saying ive heard fcuk all mate
Im saying a few ppl i know have a story which is very similar to a story davyb posted on here in which they had a bust up and AP sided with benny rather than colo
Like i said either way if colo wants a free transfer because of a barny he hasnt got a chance in hell

  • 91 Spreadthetoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:22 PM

Its an IF and a BIG IF at that, but irrespective of AP being the gaffer or anyone else for that matter…..if your the boss/ the leader and yet no one follows you…then you are ineffective at your role. I am not saying there is a divide in the dressing room….but if there is there is little survival for any manager…lets hope its all salvageable….Tsunki can you tell any more?

  • 92 Transfer Sage // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:22 PM

I don’t think the lack of ability to win after conceding first is purely down to pardew.

I guess the defensive way we play under him makes it difficult to then take the game to the opposition if we concede and they are happy to hold their lead.

I think the main problem is the players. They are lacking fight and steel. We used to fight back with great characters like Nolan, Barton, smith….maybe not great players but wise pro’s who knew what had to be done. The current lot seem a bit naive to the ways of the experienced pros and also they don’t seem to keep their heads up….it’s like they think “oh here we go again”

  • 93 Jail for Ashley // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:24 PM

Like I said on New years eve, if he spends a few quid and brings in the players we need I will stop criticising him but unless we win something under his stewardship I don’t ever think I will like him for what he has done for this football club I like yourself love with a passion.

I have to agree we lack a leader, i love colo but a few, including me were questioning his ability as a leader, not a player, before all this even kicked off (whatever this maybe theres still only rumour)
We definatley lack any bollox on the pitch when were up against it!

anyone else a bit disappointed by Amalfitano? I understand the young players need time to develop, but Amalfitano’s 23 and doesn’t look even close to our first team, which makes me question his signing in the first place? At that age he should be at least pushing for a place on the bench, no? Also, wish to God Xisco was given a shot in Uefa Cup or sumit, I swear he’s played well on the 12 or so times (in over 4 years, haha) we’ve seen him play! Can’t help but feel sorry for the guy…he cant even get a chance in our squad with so many injuries and poor performances. I’d stick him in just to freshen things up a bit

Makes sense to shift HBA to Left side and play Remy Right side.
Benny almost always cuts in on the right, though his right foot is okay, prob better than Remy’s left. If he’s Left wing then he can go to the by-line and cross or cut in for a hit on the outside of his stronger left.

  • 121 Mister Tuff // Jan 13, 2013 at 5:56 PM

I see one or two one here are suggesting a completely new and unknown of previously phenomenon. Paraphrased as follows:-
Club Captain and manager have longstanding disagreement on tactics, comes to a head in dressing room bust up – results in club captain requesting to leave the club. This may be a reasonable assessment so far -what some of you are suggesting/inferring by default is:-
As a result of her husbands bust up with the manager the club captains wife is so enraged by the club tactics that she deserts her children and husband in the matrimonial home.
Mmm I don’t think this version sounds correct some how.

Exactly. I think at 23 if you aren’t in and around the first team on a regular basis you never will be.

Look at players of a similar or younger age we have bought recently.

Santon, Anita, bigi, obertan….all have been heavily involved in the first team.

Maybe he just turned up and hasn’t put in effort and not got going…not sure but surely we can’t have been so bad at scouting that we disnt realise he isn’t fit to even be a squad player

    Look again 🙂

  • 157 Newcastle for alltid // Jan 13, 2013 at 6:17 PM

I won’t get excited over Remy until he’s actually put pen to paper and signed, I still have a feeling that his wage demands may be too high, or that some other thing stalls, like his medical. But I guess that’s just the way we learn to think as Newcastle-fans, since every transfer seems to go on for an eternity. If he signs, it’ll be a quality signing, even though he has struggled this season. I haven’t seen him play a lot, but of what I’ve heard, he’s a very good player when his form is good.

The rumours going around, and from what Pardew has said lately, there seems to be quite a few transfers going on, which is exciting, even though I have a hard time believing it. Out priority now should be to get in one or two good CB’s. Even if Coloccini stays my opinion is that we need two. Signing one to partner Colo would be fine as long as the two of them stays fit. My concern is that if Colo or his new CB-partner should get injured, we would be back to playing Williamson, since Saylor is constantly injured and unreliable as to playing every match in a season.

So with Debuchy in, Remy hopefully in, we should sign two CB’s. I also think we may need a new offensive player. Not as high-profile as Remy and Ben Arfa, but maybe a more exciting, up-and-coming youngster to keep it competitive. Gutierrez is showing his age, both his pace and ball control is lacking nowadays. Obertan is a strange case, since he varies from the exciting and spectacular to extremely poor. Maveaux we should keep, as he will only get better if he gets his chances. I feel like he’s better in the middle than on the wings though. Another fullback may also be needed, if Simpson leaves. There are far better backup options out there than Simpson, cheaper as well.

As to who should go, we should get Simpson replaced with a better backup, as mentioned above. Williamson should be sold to MK Dons or something so that he can actually look like he’s playing good football. Gosling should go and maybe be replaced with another CM as the case is with Simpson. No offense to Gosling, but he’s constantly injured and doesn’t offer us much. Obertan or Gutierrez should go IF we sign another winger. Otherwise, I would keep them as backup. Amalfitano, I have no idea what’s going on there. He’s been fresh when I’ve seen him, but he’s in his twenties and nowhere near our first team. So he should be moved on and replaced with a low-profile development signing IMO. Saylor and Vuckic are also constantly injured, but I would keep them. Saylor is after all a quality CB, while Vuckic should be given the opportunity to develop a bit more, but I wouldn’t cry to see him go.

    Ben arfa

    Williamson/new CB

Our bench will now have prem experience and the quality that is needed to compete at this level. The youngsters can drop back down with the exception of Bigi who I deem decent enough for the bench at this stage of his career. This is what I expect from an NUFC first team.

It should of been done in the summer, but they are rectifying it now. Im personally over the moon we are getting this all sorted out. I feel a great second half of the season is to be had now with a much more capable squad.

Great news, major coup, as it appeared there was allot of interest in the lad.. Seems like our negotiators had balls and weren’t ready to accept a protracted and dragged out exchange, as we need the lad now.. Hopefully things looking up, after the good point yesterday and the realisation of the team that we aint that good at the moment and cant expect to just show up and beat the likes of Norwich and we need to keep things tight.. unlike what we did against everton, stoke, etc…

  • 187 Toon1978 // Jan 13, 2013 at 6:52 PM

Been hearing that Remy has been out of form BUT after watching some videos of this kid, we will have some player on our hands if we get him and get him to his best form. A change might be a good thing for Remy. Exciting in term of transfers but we need to get some win asap.

  • 188 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 6:53 PM

Maybe Remy had a minor operation like Harry Redknapp did. He might be ok now.

Like the look of Bafetimbi Gomis.

  • 189 Ashton // Jan 13, 2013 at 6:53 PM

Watched Valenciennes’ game against Nice. They got destroyed!

Isimat-Mirin was very bad. At least two goals out of the five they conceded were from direct mistakes from him one of them was Bramble-esque. He is very young and inexperienced. So he isn’t the player we need. He does have good attributes but he is just not ready for Newcastle yet. He is one for the future and is miles away from being a finished article and the accomplished CB that we desperately need .

Bong was also very average. He is a slightly better left footed version of Simpson. He would be an okay back up to Santon. He is worth 2m max. If his club asks for more we should look elsewhere.

    this blog is nuts!

now people saying they will judge MA on what he does in the summer….not last summer or god-forbid the window that is open right now

people putting jonas in their line-ups ahead of Anita….

folks now saying ‘reading is the must win match’, never mind lowly Norwich who’d just lost four on the bounce….never mind two four game losing streaks, a few three game streaks tossed in for good measure.

yeah, I’m sure I appear negative all the time but that would be a wild miscalculation. every match i feel we’ve got a chance, and for 22 or so odd matches this season, bar Man U and arsenal (with ‘inferior’ ‘injury-hit’ squads no less) every match has either been painful or a downright bore to watch

it blows my mind other people can be content in anyway with what’s going on on the pitch, in the board room and presumably on the training ground

  • 221 Newcastle for alltid // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:14 PM

    Toonacious T

It just looked like a bad day for him really. The service from Obertan and Gutierrez was lacking, so he didn’t have too much to work with. I think he also drops down to much, which is a bad thing because of his lack of passing quality and his ball control. He should be waiting in the box to finish of the chances. The space behind him should be left to Marveaux. So I don’t think you should worry too much, he’ll have better service with HBA, Cabaye and Remy around him.

  • 222 Ashton // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:14 PM

Yes. But he is better off staying at his club at the moment. He has all the necessary skills and tools to be a very good CB in the future but he isn’t ready yet and it showed tonight.

We don’t have any one like him at our club (A young CB with loads of potential and the quality to fill in when someone gets injured or suspended) He is just not a player that we desperately need. We need someone who is more accomplished and experienced.

  • 223 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:14 PM

Hope Remy does not expect that we will offer anywhere the wages QPR would have offered him….

As for people saying that he has been out of form and been injured is this not the type of players Newcastle like to target??

Santon, Ben Arfa and Obertan are players who were out of form and been injured when we got them at a discount and 2 out of the 3’s form has improved since they have joined us.

Could be a change to a country where he will have to up his game will bring out the best in Remy he was rated at 20 million last season !!

On Amalfitino i have watched him in Europa league and some reserve games the boy has some talent but the way we have been playing long balls would not suit him as he would need it played to his feet and also Pardew plays him out of position whenever he has played he is not a left winger as he is all right foot

We should maybe loan him out to a championship team like Palace where he could properly learn about the English game

  • 225 Transfer Sage // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:15 PM

I said i will judge Ashley by how he spends this summer.

He made a mistake last summer, we all accept that.

If he corrects that this window that’s the minimum I expect, it has to be done to keep us safely in the league and not be scrapping all the way til the last day

I then said he needs to learn from last summer so providing he invest properly in the summer, bringing in 2-3 players to freshen up the team and add to quality in depth then he will have learnt and past mistakes can be forgiven.

If he strengthens now and does nothing next summer then I will question if he has truly learnt from his mistake last summer or if he was merely patching the side up

  • 226 Spreadthetoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:16 PM

Don’t think anyone’s happy…but you can either try to look for the +ve’s, realistically assess what going wrong and proffer solutions, or you can bltch 24/7…just like Catchy….its a simple choice.

His confidence might be a bit fragile atm, just wondering if people think Remy arriving will help him out or not?

  • 230 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:18 PM

Matty….I think what people mean by judge Ashley this summer coming is that it’ll be the first time the club has been already running making a profit plus there will be the extra TV income. Whilst we may want him to put his own money in, his stance has been to be self sufficient, which we will be in abundance this summer. I think it’s a case of there are no excuses left as of this summer.

I still think people are judging him this window, but for me, the next window is a huge sign of where Ashley is leading us, without having to guess what’s really at play.

Remy would be great, but can’t help thinking if we got Messi, pardew would play him as a DM!

I just want a manager who goes out to win every game, not just try not to lose. I want a manager who can get a team passing and moving for each other.

with Remy and Debuchy etc, inc 4 French internationals, pardew is running out of excuses if he continues to fcuk it up now.

If we get a good CB we are petty much back to full strength if Benny is back again soon. Laurent Blanc or Rudi Garcia would be awesome though.

  • 239 JackButler // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:26 PM

I think Remy will take up Ba’s wide left position from last season so yes his arrival will be to the benefit of Cisse, but unless we sign a proven quality, commanding center half it wont matter who we have up front

  • 240 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:27 PM

Completly agree that we need a CB for right now who can by walk into thr first team, who would your choice be? For me, if colo stays then alderweild, not 100% finished article but think he would be great next to colo
If we could get this mirin lad in as well and loan him back think that would be a great bit of buisness as you say we really dont have any CB’s coming through
Although in all honesty dont know tonnes about mirin he’s supposed to be a bit of a powerhouse?

Im not judging him by the next window for me he fcuked up big style in the summer, he has alot of work to do this window too show some intent, debuchy and looks like remy are a massive step and a big investment so fair play to him for that but he still has work to do atleast one CB 2-3 if colo goes sissoko and a young cf, if that happened yeah i’d have to give him full credit

  • 241 theroosta // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:27 PM

We are getting a really gud kid in loic remy, we will have hopefully ben arfa back soon and hopefully a quality CB to partner colo, players of the quality of cisse and cabaye and santon and debuchy and marveaux and tiote and anita and shola (only kidding) and a class goali in krul with decent back up of elliot n harper, all in all there is an awful lot of quality lets just get us playing in a more free flowing style.

AP is very set in his ways and has us playing absolutley awful stuff this season, but we have the players coming in and coming back to surge away from the trouble we are in. Come on AP we have players of genuine international class, get them interacting with each other and connecting, let us not miss a trick, there is some technically very gifted players in our squad, let us play them to their strengths, lets get POSITIVE.

  • 242 Billythefish // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:28 PM

If indeed we do get Remy and a CB, we should hopefully go on a decent run and finish mid table. Another wasted season should of done this business in the summer not when we’re on our knees. Better late than never though I guess.

  • 243 DxK // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:29 PM

Remy would be a fantastic addition to what we’ve already got.
Then if Sissoko and Douglas (realistically) could be signed in time we’d have a much stronger pool of players.

    If all were fit with that squad I’d pick;

    ———–REMY————————BEN ARFA—-

SUBS: Elliot, S.Taylor, R.Taylor, Tiote, Bigi, Marveaux, Shola.

Tiote would have to fight to get back in, he’s really out of sorts.

If we stay up it’s clear that we’d need to add more quality to squad – Andy Carroll would be an interesting option now and I can’t see him costing more than £12m now.

Mbiwa would be more willing to come to a side that was safe I suspect, even though it would take a hell of a coup to get him and that Bong guy sounds like he’d be a good freebie.

    Xisco will be released along with Simpson (if he doesn’t get sold this month) and the following should be put on the transfer list as it just ain’t working;

    Dan Gosling: £1m
    Gab Obertan: £2m
    Shola: £1m
    Williamson: £1.5m
    Ranger: £200k
    Abeid: £500k

Tavernier, Ferguson, Sammy, Vuckic, Good could all do with a bit of /more loan time.

I know that’s a radical amount of activity, but it would make sure that we kept all of our top stars, wouldn’t bump the wage bill up really when you take Xisco’s £50k per week and the other guys like Gosling who are on big potatoes.

Anyway, there’s a long way to go before any of this becomes more than a pipe dream, let’s just get Remy over the line first!

  • 244 Graeme // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:29 PM

Ibiza – I guess it depends mate.

They didn’t spend last summer and were certainly not expecting to have to shell out the sort of money they are doing at the moment. I think that a bit of concern has triggered what would probably have been next summers activity, early.

The positives are that by bringing in Remy, Debuchey; with possibly a pair of very good CB’s now, he is putting in very strong foundations for the next season, while at the same time getting us away from relegation worries. The fact these new players will get 17 games together, will then have a full pre-season, will stand us in great stead for the 13/14 season.

We should really hit next season the same way we hit last season, with a much stronger squad, who know each other and what is required to succeed!! Fingers crossed lol

Rotonda – I think it was MickEire85 – who ‘goes to lots of games in the pub’ apparently, who got the homophobic ball rolling.

Toonacious T – I agree. The official party line is ‘nothing is created for him’ which is hard to disagree with on one hand. But considering the amount of attacking midfielders who have tried to set him up all season – it’s an interesting point, that maybe Cisse’s movement is too erratic and static for teammates to put him clean through as much as we’d like to see.

People say he needs the ball to feet – true but he also is pretty ineffective with his back to goal. In and around the penalty box is where we need him and I hope Remy’s addition will help us to do this.

Graeme…Well all will become clearer, well I hope a bit at least.

Wouldn’t shock me to hear “Well Mike
fronted the new TV money in January, so the new funds are repaying him”. However, in my head, they were after a RB & CB last summer, which I assume funds were available for. Only real “addition” this window would be Remy, but that’s a replacement really.

Anyway, I’m going to stop over analysing, been a busy weekend…time to relax and enjoy life.

Krul, Santon – Colo – Taylor and Debuchy are world class!
Remy-Cabaye-Tiote-HBA: wordl class with HBA from another dimension.
    Cisse-Marv-Ober-Shola-Anita are decent.
others: poor, very poor, but hard worker 🙂

Kets – Just read the post on a bit of worry about his heart condition – just to put minds at ease, it’s nothing to take great concern over.

I know first hand about it inside and out (literally !) and its nothing that will affect his performance, medical or health.

A cracking signing! Absolutely made up! 🙂

  • 261 Newcastle for alltid // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:42 PM

Tror ikke han er norsk, han skrev Newcastle For Alltid siden han svarte på min post tidligere, og det var det eneste kallenavnet jeg kom på. Ser nå i ettertid at det er et litt rart navn.

But enough Norwegian, I don’t think they like foreign languages being written on this blog, we should stick to English. 🙂

  • 262 boater // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:43 PM

Toonacious T – It crossed my mind that the real explanation for this season’s mysterious collapse is actually Cisse. Not so much him – but the allowances we have made to accommodate him. Defender’s form, back-up players sub par performances, injuries, Anita bedding in, etc. are all subsequent developments which have only compounded matters.

There are shades of Tino about Cisse… awesome technical ability, but impossible to rely on as a sole-striker or lone front man, and as such a bit of a luxury player eventually.

The worry is we do what Liverpool did with Carroll – build a whole team around a player that will never be consistent.

anything else would be a huge bonus but i think next season we need to look if our younger strikers are good enough or look for a 3rd striker as ameobi is only a 30min man imo.
amalf is a prospect we got him for next to nothing from a strange league and was a good gamble as he looks good from what i have seen of him mostly and seems the kind of exciting person that teams pay big money for if he does do well ! he may be a late developer or squad player but on low wages and will more than likely fetch us a profit transfer wise at the right time.

Belfast we did not go far enough in the summer to push forward for a possible top 5 finish again, but no one would have predicted the debacle of this season, no one would have said we would be one place above a relrgation spot, just as no one said we would finish top 5 last season, its highnsight of course.

Our manager has got our team playing in such a strange way from last season its like we are going out just to make sure we dont loose, he is so bloody negative and cautious, we just have to build more from the back, have faith in your players Alan Pardew, you have our great crowd at your disposal as well, make the most of it.

Suppose Alderweild fits with the criteria of defender Pardew wants.. he’s a ball playing defender with a foooking unreal striker and is a real threat from set pieces with his height

  • 290 Ashton // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:52 PM

Cheikhou Kouyate would be fantastic. I’ve watched him 4 or 5 times this season and he is one of the most promising CB’s in the world right now. He is very strong and very good in the air. He is also very quick for a 6’4 CB. He is also quite decent on the ball and has a cool head. What I don’t like about him is that he is too quite and rarely communicates with his team mates.

He won’t be cheap but we wont find a better CB than him in this transfer window. He would cost between 7 to 10m.

Moisander is also very good. He has outclassed his team mate (Alderweireld) every time I’ve seen him play this season. Yet everyone is nuthugging Alderweireld like crazy, around here and no one is mentioning Moisander. It’s quite funny actually.

Curiosity is getting the better of me, so please accept my apologies.

Let’s go to a parallel universe (as I don’t want to jinx anything, nor discuss the possibilities of such an event really happening at this point)…Say Newcastle were relegated, do you think that would have an impact on the Wonga sponsorship deal? On the face of it, sponsorship for PL and Championship teams must be different, but did Wonga think for a second we would be in with a chance of relegation?

When i say “we” I mean us in parallel universe as fans of the other NUFC…of course.

  • 297 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 13, 2013 at 7:56 PM

I honestly think after Remy signs we will probably bring in one more player and it will be a CB. That would be a very good transfer window under Ashley and his wallet may finally be dust free for a change 🙂 . Then in the summer bring in Sissoko & a young striker aas backup to Remy and Cisse as Campbell is not ready yet and Shola is just well Shola 😉 .

boater- to be fair Tino produced some memorable games up as a lone striker but he did blow hot and cold. I think that Pardew’s style would be suited to building a team around an AC type of player, whereas a Cisse type needs to be fed by pacey direct wingers like Spurs have. Who do we put on the other wing assuming one flank will have Remy on it?

I’m convinced Batman has been persuaded to bring Summer window’s business forward as he does not want another relegation with the TV money going up 60%+. Its going to be now or nothing – except development players in the summer.

If AP has managed to get some real movement and we get another 2 players after Remy (ideally 3) then we will all be much happier that Batman has a real commitment to the club as four quality players ought to make us top 6 material. We can then feel free to blame the manager for future underperformances.

I suspect that AP will play a continental game once he has got rid of the also-rans from the staring 11. He’d be crazy not to do that.

  • 320 nick_9 // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:10 PM

Really cannot see Remy and alderweireld but it would be welcomed. I think it would certainly discredit that value cannot be found in the January window.

Anyone slightly jealous of the teams still in the league cup? Imagine if that was us, we would be milking it right now. Swansea have a very good chance of knocking Chelsea out and playing Bradford In the final. That would be a kick in the teeth if a team like Bradford got to the final.

  • 321 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:10 PM

    Graeme….You, me, outside…now! 🙂

Mick…I think you put peoples backs up a little with your original comment. Is referring to a player as dreamboat really that big a deal? Seems fairly harmless and whilst it may not be done at your pubs etc, it is on here by a fair few and doesn’t seem to cause any offense (Unless I’ve missed Yo’s press release on the matter).

  • 322 Mister Tuff // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:12 PM

proud – no I’ve heard nothing about Alderweireld coming. There is that much speculation on the web associating players with exactly the same clubs year in year out -stories repeated and so on.
If this is true then it would be a magnificent signing -he will not come cheap.
I think the Toons original intention was to probably get a CB to replace Willo and cover for Taylor due to his fitness record. I think now in view of the Collo revelations -if they have learnt their “summer lessons” they should be thinking about another CB as a replacement for Collo. I read the Collo situation as if they do not let him disappear for a short period to sort things out he will end up doing a Tevez and go back to Argentina without the clubs permission. hope I’m wrong but the management need to be on top of this – ie we do not want a new CB to be partnered with Willo for the remainder of the season.
But it would appear so far so good, a bit slow perhaps for expectant fans -but I’m looking forward for our new “half team” to arrive.

I tell you what, what this window so far has proved without a doubt to me. These people upstairs can get the job done properly when they really have to.

I expect all transfer business whether it be in the summer or winter to be conducted as sufficiently as this in the future. This is the standard it should constantly be set at.

  • 345 Mister Tuff // Jan 13, 2013 at 8:29 PM

People need to remind themselves the El Gordo is not getting the cheque book out for the love of the Toon -it is to protect/ensure receipt of future millions. The great summer no buy gamble falls directly on him, Dastardly and Percy Parsnip. The lack of quality players/new signings must have had an impact on who was played in the games -compounded by the additional EL games -thus not allowing much rotation. It raises questions about Cabs and Bennys injuries etc. The whole summer shambles has had a massive knock on effect.
But from what we hear and see so far this window El Gordo appears to be redeeming himself – not for the love of us or the club but to protect his money.

    Debuchey Taylor Collocini Santon

    Cabaye Anita

    HBA Cisse Remy

Would be quite an achievement to go down with that squad. Quite an achievement!

I think the only thing stopping us from having gone down in the prior history of the Premier League was Shearer, who as a player simply would not have entertained the notion.

Don’t see any players with the character and mental strength of a Shearer in that squad, bit of a worry really. More steel please!

But if any club can do it, it’s us.

Thanks. He would be a great signing. Hopefully there are no snags and all goes well. His pace will make a huge difference. This striker is much better than Martins (remember him), he didn’t use his pace well but I feel that Remy will be explosive and cause defenders all kinds of problems with his trickery and pace. I can’t wait! 😀

IMO we need a third striker before we touch the midfield. Shola forth. If we play them both regularily and on gets injured – were into shola territory.

  • 411 Beattie25 // Jan 13, 2013 at 9:09 PM

I’d rather have Sissoko than M’villa.

All that pace, all that power, box to box, tackles turning defense into attack, perfect for our needs.

If we miss out on this player for this little a cost it would be a travesty.

The guy is a brilliant player and will be one of the finest CM in a couple of years.

  • 412 Spreadthetoon // Jan 13, 2013 at 9:09 PM

    Toon 1978
Quick post….we need Sissoko to come in to provide direct competition to Tiote. Anita and Bigi are similar but Tiote wins hands down in his physicality even though sometimes his performances warrant him being benched occasionally. Therefore I would very strongly welcome Sissoko who would push for a 1st team place…..thereby each would want to out perform the other to get 1st team place – its healthy and good for player and club to have this. Laters.

    Have u heard different ?

A very interesting article on who we are looking at in the way of “Development Players, as those we have are in danger of being binned!!

Some of the names mentioned are – “That recruitment process has already begun, with United having made contact with Valenciennes in an attempt to take left-back Gaetan Bong (pictured left) and having expressed an interest in Bastia striker Florian Thauvin.

Others will follow, with 17-year-old defensive midfielder Kevin Mbabu – who plays for Switzerland under-19s – also linked.

Looks like we now mean business!! Exciting times!!

    Aye Jack,

Apparantly West Ham want 10 mil for tomkinson. He isn’t worth that like. Give them 5 and Simpson?

Seems to be many who do not want Tomkinson. Hardly anyone seems to rate him. Im unsure. He has played for England through every age group so far.

S Taylor and Tomkinson for many years to come? English Centre back partnership can’t be bad?

£2m for Tomkins plus Simmo 🙂

  • 464 JackButler // Jan 13, 2013 at 9:58 PM

Tomkins would be an improvement over Willo and I’d have him as a squad player but only after we have brought in a proven center half.

But 2 mil and Simmo would be a good deal for us

  • 465 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:00 PM

Be lucky if Simpson is worth 2 mill. No way would they let him go for 4 mill. To do a deal in January I’d think they would want at least 7 for him. And that’s at least

  • 466 BelfastMagpie // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:02 PM

They can have 10 million if they want.
10 million strawberry millions that you used to get in the sweet shop.

  • 467 WWYCD // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:03 PM

10 mill for Tomkins? I rate the lad but that’s excessive when we could get a foreign full international CB for less

  • 468 JackButler // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:05 PM

And thats why so many managers go oversea’s for players

  • 469 Spuggy // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:06 PM

If we do get Remy a quality CB and CM like Alderwereild and Sissoko our bench could look like this:

Elliott, Saylor, Anita, Perch, Jonas, Marveaux/Obertan, Shola.

  • 470 Transfer Sage // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:06 PM

Tompkins is bobby average in all aspects if his play.

Would be a good back up/squad player but why would he leave being back up at west ham to be back up for us?

If he is the man we want to be our long term CB then I worry.

Hopefully we will sign a much better player in yanga mbiwa or alderwerield.

  • 471 BelfastMagpie // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:08 PM

Cheeky c****. 10 million for a centre back that cant get a game ahead of Winston Reid. No thanks.

  • 472 Transfer Sage // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:08 PM

    Spot on there.

There is no value buying within the league. Or rarely anyway… Sometimes it’s good business but not often.

Your better off buying 5 players from abroad then 2 from within England and hoping 3/4 can actually make the adjustment to the league

  • 473 Spuggy // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:09 PM

Actually it makes huge sense to get sissoko in as Anita from the bench can cover RB, LB and CM. Gives us plenty of cover.

  • 474 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:10 PM

I think 7 million wouldn’t be a bad shout for Tomkinson.

He is well known throughout the England set-up and is highly thought of. Obviously they expect him to make the grade and step up to the senior set-up at some stage. A bit like our very own Steven Taylor.

Taylors fitness is letting him down badly now though. I’d be very worried if I was him. He is never just out for a few weeks either, it’s always months.

I do think we will be very lucky to get him for 7 mill though. If we could for that price, I’d take him.

  • 475 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:14 PM

About W’Ham’s valuation of Tomkins isn’t this just a question of our valuation of Simmo?

…I mean value him at £8M and do a swap plus cash 😉 two can play that game lol

  • 476 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:18 PM

I’d like to see NUFC get away from using players as cover and rather have them situated in their natural positions. I think this has been a part of our shocking season to date.

Players being utilised all over the park.

  • 484 Transfer Sage // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:26 PM

    Toon prodigy

From what I have seen if Tomkins over the years I see him purely as a squad player in prem league.

I think he is a player that is always “breaking through” then he gets to the age of 27/28 and has never made it.

Not a massive fan of him and for that money there is much better players…cough up the extra couple million and get alderwerield

Thanks for taking the time to correct me. You must be bored?

To my knowledge, he has played through all ages of the England set-up. With that, you have to think he has something in his locker. All im saying is 7 million wouldn’t be a bad shout 😉

  • 494 dmac // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:39 PM

  • 495 Transfer Sage // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:41 PM

    Both similar in my opinion.

I rate Saylor higher but not sure if that’s because I remember the good things he does more.

I oils expect us to pay 7 mil for Saylor so wouldn’t expect us to pay that or Tomkins either.

Id rather pay a few million for hangaland now and have him here for 2 years to allow us to develop a younger CB from Europe without having to pin our hopes on him hitting the ground running.

  • 496 toonLYF // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:41 PM

    regarding Reading…

an early goal is vital in this one, as Reading will be confident they can score, so we need to take the sting out of them asap. Don’t see why Remy shouldn’t start if he’s signed tomorrow, going by the Norwich game, we will need him.

I’d like to see this team.

Just get out, put them on the back foot, don’t give them an inch, and give the fans something to cheer about. Least’ you expect when playing Reading at home.

Tomkins is average at best and it baffles me that at one end of the pitch were signing players like benny cisse and remy but at the other end relying on wilo taylor anx mow tomkins?
Ideally over this window and summer we’d bring in a top CB and a youngster to learn under colo then summer look at replacing wilo and taylor

Both bang average English CBs but ours is older and far more injury prone, not a Colo replacement but a Saylor/Willo replacement Id have Tomkins (not at the price branded about though unfortunately)

Wouldnt want Hangaland personally be a waste of money for a decent player but no future to him

  • 502 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 13, 2013 at 10:51 PM

saylor “was” the future for us great tackles great heading very strong good positional sense and tried the hardest i’ve seen a player try “when he was younger” after the injury however he’s now a bag of s**t and it is a close call on him or willo.
i really do hope its a confidence thing with him though if we got the old saylor back playing with collo it would be great (however i very much doubt it) i can not remember a time when we had a very solid back 4 and now we could potentially have 3 or them so please buy a quality defender who can organise.
oh and give cabaye the captains armband.

If there saying 10 million for Tompkins then why not go in for Micah Richards, I think he is injured and not sure how long he is out for but to me he would be amazing for us, fast and strong, a real powerhouse and he can play cb and rb, plus he struggles to get in the city team

  • 506 beddersmag // Jan 13, 2013 at 11:05 PM

Our back 4 last year was solid enough. Take out a few kickings where we shipped 4/5 and we conceded relatively few, lots of clean sheets and the success was built around a solid team defensive unit. You must have short term memory block mate 🙂

So far this season our back four has been very inconsistent.

No static back line for most parts due to injurys and suspensions.

We have had Anita, Tav, Perch, Williamson, Colo all operating in different positions at different times. Where last season we were ok with injurys. Got found out big time this season because of the silly gamble in the summer.

Hopefully, this will be the window all of this is rectified.

Never seen sissoko play but part of the problem vs norwich was titty (or woteva his name is) and johnson were alot more powerful than our midfield and we lacked height so looks like he can help out.

Theres so many diarras, cisses and sissokos in france its hard to keep track of them

  • 515 No Plain Saylor // Jan 13, 2013 at 11:38 PM

Apparently Yanga Mbiwa would cost in the region of £6m, that would be my number one choice, followed by alderweirld, sakho and okore. Any one of those (two if colo goes) plus douglas on a pre contract, remy tied up and sissoko for £2.5m. Would be an excellent window.

    Who knows.

  • 519 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 13, 2013 at 11:45 PM

Isn’t Sissoko a defensive mid though? I see everyone bandying his name about, but a defensive mid is the last position we need to look at?

  • 520 Special K // Jan 13, 2013 at 11:47 PM

I know Mike Ashley & Llambias get a hard time on here especially when we go through losing spells but you can’t really argue with their January so far.

£10m net spent on two French internationals and we’ve offloaded a disruptive player who had no intention of staying here beyond this window. Mike is not a stupid man, stupid people don’t become billionaires, unless it’s through the lottery.

No doubt they will have held their hands up over the summer’s poor decision making. Pardew said 3/4 were hotting up and Mick Lowes said the same not including Remy so please God we’re not even 50% there with regards to incomings!

    Keep the Faith

Sissoko used to be a defensive midfielder, but has been converted into an attacking midfielder over the past two seasons, picture a yaya toure type player. Powerhous, speed, starts attacks, breaks attacks. In three years i gaurantee he will be a 20 million pound player, hes availabe for 2.5 it would be madness not to take him, he is exactly what we need, for gods sake hes available for less than we would get for dan gosling! ha

  • 523 Robby Bobson // Jan 13, 2013 at 11:52 PM

You know i seen remy a few times, but its only from youtubing him ive seen his aerial ability. Seems like a really powerful attacker of the ball…im dreaming of hatem beating the right back, floating a ball in and remy powering a header above the left back. That will be the plan when shola plays anyway!

  • 528 Robby Bobson // Jan 14, 2013 at 12:06 AM

If perch plays how he did vs norwich for the next 3-4 games, no way should tiote walk back into the team….class moment yesterday many wouldnt have seen, debuchy went chasing the ball infield and i thought crap theres gona be a hole but within seconds of debuchy going walkies perch is sitting in at right back.

We need selfless players like that in the team on the run we are in.

  • 529 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 14, 2013 at 12:07 AM

Aye, I see where your coming from in regards to Tiote. I think he is very much a confidence player, unstoppable when full of confidence. Problems arise once his head drops or he has a dip in form, like his sending off against the Makums for instance. I think that hurt him, he took alot of stick for that. It’s like he has never recovered from it.

To be fair to him, the confidence has been rock bottom with everyone lately. We just need the return of form from a few big players and those few wins off the belt and we will be good to go.

@nimo: I also think Simon Kjær would be a good buy. But it appears, that its’ been a while since you checked up on him, as he is no longer having a torrid time at Wolfsburg – they changed their manager in october I think, and he has been playing every game since, and has been in the Team of the Week on a regular basis. He just recently said, that he was again very exited about the Wolfsburg project, and I think his last 10 games have made his market value go up significantly ..
