Newcastle Still Keen On Cameroon Left Back

We had reported a few days ago that Newcastle had in fact tabled a bid for 24 year-old Cameroon International left back Gaeten Bong, who plays for Valenciennes in the French first division.

Gaëtan Bong 99

Gaeten Bong – Newcastle have already made an offer

And as an update to that, Mercato 365 are reporting that West Ham have sent some scouts to take a look at the player in the Ligue One game later today, when Valenciennes travel to Nice.

But Jean-Raymond Legrand, the Valenciennes President has said:

Newcastle are very interested, they have made an offer. We will wait and see. But I will not sell players unless I can replace them.

Valenciennes will not allow Bong to leave before they first secure a replacement for him, but with a bid already in, we have to think Newcastle are in the driver’s seat for the player, whether West Ham enter the chase for him or not.

And the 6’2″ tall Bong seems a good player, and he’s fast and good in the tackle, and one reason Newcastle have been following him, is that his four year contract runs out in June.

So if Newcastle cannot get him through the door in January, they may be able to get him to sign a pre-contract agreement, and then complete the deal in June.

Newcastle are also able to talk to the player about wages, since he becomes a free agent in six months time.

Maybe if we toss simmo in a cash+player deal someone will bite, lol. Tbh I don’t see the huge benefit in letting him go since we’ll just lose depth.

Big Sam will be after him alright, he loves tall full backs.
He was the tactical genius that didn’t sign baines for us from wigan because he was too small.
Phew good job we didn’t get him eh?

Norcal how about we try and offload Simmo, gosling and obertan for Remy? Haha

    http://hereisthecity.com/2013/01/07/mn-five-premier-league-clubs-want-him-so-who-is-massadio-haidara/

Haidaro in talks with five English clubs in the top half of the league apparently.

Do fans really believe we are building a squad and want him to challenge santon? I struggle to believe that when money is right and we still need a cb and a striker. If collo leaves we will need two quality cb’s. unless this guy can play in the centre?

Ligue 1, like Amalfitano? Another one for the future? We need proven players from top leagues Mike. And, send Carr to S. America. Cheaper players, feisty, technical. France is a bit on the down in footballing terms, these days. Does Carr have a maison there?

I really think we struggle to score due to the lack of players in our team who WANT to score. Take Cisse out and what do we have????

If we play with 3 behind Cisse(in theory) then all 3 have to be a threat to the opposition to score. Right now we have Jonas on one side, Obertan on the other and both our midfielders dont score either.

If the formation is done correctly like Chelseas do, you have to have a goal threat from all over. I know they are on anther level to us but they have the CF and all of Mata, Hazard and Oscar get goals, PLUS one of their midfield 2 in Lampard.

I know we cant get this calibre of player but we still need players from the next level down who want to score. Again I didnt see Jonas getting into the box with Cisse when the ball was with Obertan on the right, Anita and Perch both held outside the box, Marveuax isnt the type to get in the box and nick a scrappy header.

When we had Nolan or whoever, we have a goal threat from outside the CF, we need that back. On paper emy playing LW would add that possibly though the jury is out as to whether he is the same player as of 2 seasons ago.

Personally getting rid of Tiote for decent cash and bringing in M’Vila would make sense if poss, espec if the mackems are indeed interested in him!

    Ideal team for february:

    Krul
    Debuchy-CB-Colo-Santon
    Titoe/M’Vila-Cabaye
    HBA-Marveaux-Remy
    Cisse

Morning bloggers. Decent point yesterday and we stopped the rot. Some posters have said it was still long ball but I didn’t see that. We had Anita and perch collecting the ball of the cb off our own box. If anything we we were too cautious/defensive but I can understand why pards did this as he knows he needs to cover his fragile defense, especially willo. Good to see krul have a good game as his confidence might have been an issue with the goals he has conceded.

On tomkins. The lad is only 23 and has a good England pedigree. He is still learning as a centre back and would be decent cover. No way at 10 mil, 2 mil maybe!

Nick9 – I know some readers here who wouldn’t mind that.

Pardew needs to instill some confidence in the team and get us playing like we did vs. Manu, then our strikers will have proper support.

Vs. Norwich, all we did was struggle to hold posession, then boot it to Cisse because there was no outlet. Whatever system Pardew used v Norwich it may have made our defense solid but ffs we had no offense.

How much do people think Stephen Caulker is worth? anyone think it would be a feasable buy and he would want to join us???? Also jamaal lascelles looks to be a future star why we dont snap him up before one of the big boys comes in is beyond me? on par with williamson at the mo and only 18

JDdubai – I think if we had Ben Arfa, cabaye and a new left sided attacked like remy then that attacking midfield three would have a goal threat. It would be nice to see cabaye in or around the edge of the box. Aside from the two strikers last season who else chipped in? We need goals from all around the team. Vermaelen scored 6 goals last season, that would have been the third highest in our team.

Would anyone consider lower league strikers given holt scored 15 last season, graham got 12 and long got 8, even lambert has got 9 this season which is more than tevez, Rooney and Torres.

89norcal – how would you be feeling this morning after another defeat. It’s not great but it’s a point away from home. We can build on it but until he buys good defenders he knows his team are vulnerable if he attacks too much. Admittedly he has to find the balance but we will attack more v reading that is certain.

Unless you are a defender or DM why would any player sign for Pardew when he has openly admitted he tries not to lose matches, rather than try to win them.

If Pardew spends 4 out of 5 days training the defence no wonder we only had 2 shots on goal in 90 mins!!!

Pardew says he has being watching Tomkins progess. Is that the Tomkins who can’t get a first team spot and that West Ham are asking 10M for!!

Times yesterday when no other Newcastle player was anywhere near the Newcastle player in possession. No support or runs off the ball whatsoever.

Long ball hoofball is one thing, but to be so defensive, negative, dour, boring and with very poor fitness levels is another and for that reason reason I am out on Pardew.

I just don’t feel the team as a whole has confidence, but that’s typical on a poor run like this.

With Saylor and Cabaye back, and Debuchy and Remy, we should look a restored side. Just hope Pardew drills them well.

If and when Simpson and Williamson are moved on (fingers crossed hey) will we need to bring in more homegrown players to meet requirments, i remember a Poster called English Players For Toon was a bit of a T**t but had a valid point we need to bring in more English talent even if we have to over pay a little………….

I agree with Stephen Keegan. We need a bit of steel & team spirit that comes with the homegrown boys. However, I think this is a bigger problem with the Prem which is ruining our national team. We need enforced number of British players in the squad. In fact I’d go further to say 5 British players in the first 11.
