We knew that Newcastle were very interested in Moussa Sissoko, the 22 year-old French international central midfielder, but it turns out that Newcastle were hoping to secure a deal for the 5 times capped French International in the summer, but his club Toulouse putting a £3.5M tag on him in January has changed all that.
Moussa Sissoko – now a January target for Magpies
The two other clubs thought to be interested in Sissoko are Sunderland and Juventus, but Newcastle will now move quickly in an attempt to get the player on Tyneside this month – even though it will now cost them around £3.5M.
Certainly Derek LLambias and Secretary Lee Charnley have been very busy in the January transfer window so far, and they were in France over the weekend, and seem to have been successful in wrapping up the signing of Loic Remy – a five year deal that should be announced tomorrow.
And it seems that Graham Carr was at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Friday night for St Etienne’s 2-2 home draw with Toulouse, and a certain Moussa Sissoko played the whole game for Toulouse.
We’d be really disappointed if we lose out on Sissoko, especially if the lad moves to Sunderland – heaven forbid.
But the news in the local papers today is that Newcastle are after several players, and the next signing could be a center-back – and he will be coming in regardless of what Newcastle can work out with Fabricio Coloccini this week.
Apparently Newcastle will not go after FC Twente’s Douglas – and Sam Allardyce will not sell James Tomkins in January – so we wonder if it’s possible to get the Montpelier captain 23 year-old Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa through the door?
He would be an excellent buy for Newcastle – but the news is that Newcastle are also after Jores Okore, the 22 year-old 4 times capped Danish International, who was born in Abidjan, in the Ivory Coast.
What do you think?

I think this is our starting lineup for next game, even if Remy is ready:
Krul
Debuch–STaylor(if fit)-Colo(if he stays)-Santon
Perch–ANita
Marv–Cabaye–Guti
Cisse
Subs:Elliot,Tavs,Bigi,Remy,Obertan(Sammy),Shola.
Feel for Marv. Looks like he is gonna be back on the bench soon.

Would love mbiwa. As I was reading about this signing I was thinking we desperately need a defender not a cm, even tho I’d like us to get this lad. And then the last part came
and hopefully we tie up remy in time to play against reading as I’m at the match and with any luck mbiwa too

I will investigate the sunderland voodoo rumour as soon as my biohazard suit arrives…as well as my silver cross to repel those heathens.
And with regards to HBA being a PSG fan…..it’s hard to say as I have never heard it before and I don’t know the guy.
I would agree though that a journo will often ask loaded questions to get answers to write headlines….and when things are translated sometimes the exact meaning of words are lost.

OKay please treat this as an innocent question, because I do not know the geography around Newcastle as I’m from India.
Do Newcastle and Sunderland people hate each other outside of football.. like is there some class divison which makes this rivalry so bitter?

Will do Jesp.
Got the choice of Marseilles vs Montpellier or Toulouse vs Nancy this weekend. I’ve seen a lot of the first 2 so maybe venture to watch Toulouse – who will be without Sissoko I’m sure. Also gives a chance to watch Haidara play again for Nancy. Although rumours are rife that he was whisked away from training last week for a ‘meeting’! Although linked with us – this could mean a number of things.
16 lloydie780 // Jan 14, 2013 at 10:46 AM
God i really hope this one comes off purely as he is my favourite player worldwide. Watch alot of french football and i love this guy. One thing we have alwasy lacked is a big guy in the centre of the pitch who can win stuff aerially and dominate. A real powerhouse, if we get him we have finally got one. so so excited, but also worried my dream player doesn’t come. Just so you all know he is a very physical player and would be a perfect DM but he has so much more to his game too. Can play a pass and can chip in with the odd goal. Come on guys lets get the business done, this kid has to come.

iitiantoon
The rivalry extends back over a hundred years to the english civil war around 1640. The two areas were on different sides.
Newcastle is a richer city, has more high paid jobs and everything but both newcastle and sunderland have working class areas within the cities.
There is no real hatred between the two areas though, get the odd bit of trouble but it’s pretty much all football related and in the minority of people.
Both have successful universities and plenty opportunities to better yourself financially though.
18 TheToonKing // Jan 14, 2013 at 10:50 AM
Sissoko is good, but as with Remy i don’y quite understand the need for him. Surely strengthening the defense and the creative midfield must be of higher priority ?
Sissoko is like Tiote, a mosnter/bruiser in midfield with decent distribution, but not really somebody to score or feed the strikers.

21 Magpietillidie22 // Jan 14, 2013 at 10:50 AM
I know Sissoko looks a very decent player but is another CM really necessary? Aren’t there a few other voids to fill first?
I guess if this:
DCM – DCM
RAM – CAM – LAM
ST
Formation is going to be our new formation then maybe we do need him especially during ACN… personally after Remy is signed up and if we had all to choose from I’d put cabaye and tiote as the DCMs. Tiote winning the ball and Cabaye spraying it around to Benny Marv and Remy
Krul
Debuchy Colo Saylor Santon
Cabaye Tiote
Remy Marv Benny
Cisse
Pretty sexy to me…

The picture showcases the man perfectly. Big and powerful, leaving opponents on the floor. If we don’t try and sign him it’ll be an injustice.
He isn’t the finished article yet but in a few years he’ll be up there with Viera and Toure in my opinion.

the most sissokho has had in a season is 8 goals
a typical is season is 2/3 goals withe same assists.
We have cabaye and marvoux, even ben arfa as a creator who can play behind the striker
We currently only have tiote and anita who play a deeper role as a DM and can spread the ball.
I still would like diame but at least sissokho is french so wont be off to Africa every other season.

30 Beattie25 // Jan 14, 2013 at 11:01 AM
I hate to be ride but priorities when it comes to transfers should never get in the way of the single most important thing which is overal depth and quality.
If you went into town and you needed a lock for you door to stop people trying to break in but as you wondered around you saw a power tool for an extrodinary price and there was only one left what would you do? Add to that the fact that you had more than enough money and your next door neighbour was sniffing around for it too of course you’d buy it.
I just think you need to open up your kind to a way of thinking that allows you to see that transfers aren’t a 1 dimensional process. You can buy several players at once. It’s a matter of bidding and talking and signing.
That’s why 3 or 4 are warming up.
This is one player we can’t miss out on.
Not one player we have has the ability to win the ball in defense and power up field. If Anita wins it or Cabaye they pass it. If Willo wins it or Tiote it’s a hoof. If Moussa won it he’d run, like Diame, up field and that’s something we need.
31 lloydie780 // Jan 14, 2013 at 11:01 AM
Sissoko isn’t a goal scoring midfielder!!!!! First and foremost he is a powerhouse. He has a solid all round game but due to his size his defensive and physical elements are particularly strong.
32 Nick 69 // Jan 14, 2013 at 11:03 AM
really annoys me when people say we dont need Sissoko. If a player becomes available, who is better than what you already have, for a very low price, then you always need them. Its not going to affect any other business we do as its already been said we will get a CB, and already have Debuchy, and nearly Remy over the line.
Im not the biggest fan of our board, but seems like they cant win. They get slagged for not buying players, then when we are apparently trying to bring in several top quality players, people start saying we don.t need them.
We DO need Sissoko because Tiote has been shocking for about 18 months now, a total liability who does mroe harm than good. Sissoko is twice the player he is

34 TorqToon // Jan 14, 2013 at 11:04 AM
Lloydie – did I miss something? Are people expecting Sissoko to come here and a ore goals?! That’s not what he is about at all. He is about adding composure and stability to our midfield and protection to our back line.
It’s not about goals with this lad! He is a player and will be better than Mr T in time! That’s for certain.

We do need Sissoko.
He is not just a defensive player, he is similar to Anita and can play any role in midfield if needed. Offensive and Defensive he is a good passer of the ball.
Buying him for so cheap allows you to have quality beyond the starting 11, most likely by dropping someone like Anita/Tiote to the bench to accomodate him.
He will also be more dangerous during a set piece than Anita or Tiote.
3.5m we do need a player like him. If you want to get rid of someone to allow him to be “needed” get rid of Gosling, Obertan, RTaylor players who are not good enough or injury prone.
I would like to see
Sissoko
Remy
CB (Mbiwa PLEASE!!!)
LB
Why left back, because we have Ferguson as our only cover as a natural full back on the left. Atleast Santon can move to right back if needed.

…the club (manager/medical) knows the risk they are running and at the expense of the player.
Results are just too important – they cling to the slightest chance that a player is fit and ready.

Team for Reading :

Tiote Anita
Marvaux Remy Cabaye
Papiss
Who we got to replace Willo by next Saturday, ideally would want someone else in there but there is no-one else barring a new signing!
The Team i.d like to see when there is no-one injured and fit to play:
KRUL
DEBUCHY SAYLOR COLLO SANTON
SISSOKO
MARVAUX CABAYE HATEM
REMY PAPISS
The second eleven would probably see us not omly stay up but at least secure us a mid -table finnish and if no-one leaves this summer give us a chance to push for something special next season!

The name doing the rounds in this area at the minute is Toby Alderweireld. Rumours say he is already in talks but this is all just word of mouth from a friend at Lille with big connections in Belgium.

The thing with ashley is he buys on value….whilst I think munain would be too expensive but if we signed him for say 20/25mil (maybe less as spanish clubs are financially struggling) then he might increase even further in value which is a ‘good investment’ from ashley.

Dream window -
Debuchy – DONE (6m)
Alderweild – Rumored talks (6m)
Remy – Confirmed talks (8m)
Sissoko – Rumored talks (4m)
I would try and sell
Simpson 1m
Gosling 1m
Ba 5m (DONE)
That is a 17m net spend, I would praise the board due to the investment and caliber the players bought.
We need CB, LAM, CM now if we are to have a successful window. This doesnt mean our players will gel instantly. We need to start getting points and I believe 6 points against Reading and Villa are required. Nothing less will suffice! Norwich draw is a good point I think.

Transfer Sage -
Sissoko is a very creative player. If you watch him he can play the final pass and has a very similar mold to Diame, hes a box to box player.
He has pace, despite his height. I am not saying he is Yaya Toure, but he will no doubt run forward with similar power.
I feel people assume he is a defensive midfielder when infact he is generally an allround midfielder and would be dangerous on a set piece.
66 lloydie780 // Jan 14, 2013 at 11:32 AM
I would say he is similair to Diame purely because of his physique but agreed not the goals. A better all round player though. He could drive the game in a single way. Just throwing a name in there for CBbut i would still like Simon Kjaer. Not throwing too much at it, young and a good rep.
Torq- its because we are signing/trying to sign players. To out a negative spin on it this should have all happeneed in the summer including Ba leaving then we would have been prepared and have a stronger squad for a hard season. We now have to hope we pick up second half with new player onboard and that our big players dont want to leave with no european football next year.
67 Transfer Sage // Jan 14, 2013 at 11:32 AM

the sissokho fee will be less….closer to 3 mil I think the club said they wanted.
That would be a great window though, and would cover every area we need as of now.
It would be a great sign by the board to rescue the problems left over from a poor summer window.
Providing lessens have been learned and they are treating the cause and not the symptons then we will hopefully not see another season like this.

on sissokho..
I’m not saying he isn’t capable of a final pass. I just meant he is more of a player who starts off deeper…moving forward with the ball as oppose to a cabaye who prefers to start high up the pitch.
I think players who play deeper still have a good final ball, look at anita…..maybe the best of all of them is xabi alonso…sits deep and sprays the ball around.
Having looked at diame’s stats though he may be that kind of player as he doesn’t bang them in either.

I disagree a bit there.
Cisse has been poor, not going to defend him there, but he has been played out of position a good half of the season.
I would say williamson gets stick because no matter how well he plays he is never really good enough for us…we need a better standard of player than him.
Other players who have underperformed are forgiven a bit as they can play better.

I favour Cabaye. He is in the right position in the middle of the field, speaks good English and is probably the senior Frenchman in the group of Frenchmen now at the club and being a regular in the French national team probably carries some respect. He is also hardworking, a bit feisty and is always going to be picked. My choice.

Williamson is shocking…he knows himself he is out of his depth, you can see it in his face during a game.
The main issue i have with buying so many players in this window is trying to gel them all together as a team (assuming we buy anymore players). QPR are a prime example of buying loads of players and struggling to find their feet in the EPL, especially CB’s.

ILLtianToon – I can guarantee that the majority agree with you. But that doesn’t make you right. Leaving him out of your matchday squad is doubly offensive: it comes across as playground victimisation and you trying to score cheap favour for kicking an easy target. 2 – It is shortsighted
Williamson is not responsible for our slump – he is perhaps the least technically sound player in the team so the overall ailing of the team is evident in him first. He is also first in the firing line.
The problems started this season up front – and without fluid attack and goalthreat eventually the defense began to creak – but only recently. Before Man U away we had only conceded 2 more than same time this season.
When anything goes wrong at NUFC we say it’s the defense.. then pick the worst defender – even one that led us to 5th last season.
I’m happy to see Williamson replaced this week – but guarantee you the difference in results will be nowhere near as you all fantasise about – if different at all.
Then you will need a new target to blame. And convince yourselves like squawking chickens in a coop that everything will be okay when they leave.
119 Transfer Sage // Jan 14, 2013 at 12:09 PM

You are right there.
With tiote and cabaye together we did very well last year, even with cabaye and guthrie.
But this year with no cabaye we have struggled to get a grip in some games.
I like bigi and think he has talent, but he is young and still a bit naive, he needs to be bedded in slowly so he can learn without it having a negative impact on the team performance, very important in defence and centre midfield that your players have some experience.
You can get away with mistakes in advanced areas as they don’t often lead to a goal scoring opportunity for the opposition….in dm or defence you need players who are confident, especially against the top sides.
120 TorqToon // Jan 14, 2013 at 12:13 PM
IIiantoon – Is a fair simple issue to be honest. Basically the heart is a primary and automatically operated organ – as it you don’t need to tell your heart to beat each time. Same with lungs, kidneys etc. The issue with Remy is the mechanics of his heart differ from a ‘standard’ heart in that the fibres that form the heart aren’t the level of thickness they you would ideally want. This can lead to weaknesses and palpitations, but only in a rare occasion. His heart rate fluctuates more than it should, however – it’s a fully healthy heart, works perfectly under normal and high level of usage and he is able to play at a professional level and not have the condition affect him at all.
This is NOT like the issues that were discovered with Fab Muamba, Marc Viviene Foe or piermario Morosini.
It’s something that unless tested at the top level (ie the professional game) it might not ever be discovered or known about throughout a persons life.
Mo Diame has the same condition as did Kanu at arsenal. They all remained unaffected. It’s just something the medical teams need to take note of and be aware of.
121 Magpietillidie22 // Jan 14, 2013 at 12:13 PM
Some very good points about the need for Sissoko, I mean his quality isnt in question at all but yeah if Tiote and Cabaye are out it would be Anita and someone else who wouldn’t be able to fill Cab’s boots.
Are the links with the Ajax defender true? That would be awesome, I don’t mind having foreign players just think we should expand the net further than France lol which I’m sure the club will do. I’d like to get a Spanish and/or German player in. Don’t know who just wouldn’t mind some Spanish flair and German ruthlessness to the team

123 IITianToon // Jan 14, 2013 at 12:15 PM
@boater
– I have never said he is the ONLY one at fault. THats an assumption you made, a wrong one.
– When Williamson gets the ball, they know he isnt gonna do much with it, so they hound our right back or CDM who are under immense pressure.
– Williamson wins like 1% of balls from set pieces, even though he is 6’4″. Reason? Watch closely. He DOES NOT ATTACK the ball running during headers. He just arcs his head and hopes to get a touch. If only he could run in and head, he would be such greater threat.
I am NOT BLAMING Williamson for not being able enough. IN fact he does the job as best as he can. The blame lies with the board who did not bring a suitable upgrade in the summer.

Also, you are absolutely right to warn about too many players coming in at the same time re QPR.
It’s a rock and a hardplace situation. Damned if we don’t and damned if we do. If we don’t people will blame the club for a lack of investment or we do spend and it goes tits up the club will be blamed.
Myself, I think we should spend now. Carpe Diem
125 rainrix // Jan 14, 2013 at 12:16 PM
Short Bru… The players we are buying though are of a different quality to the ones qpr bought. Park Ji Sung? Cisse? Bosingwa? Mainly over the hill players looking for fernandes’ money. Besides our spine is going to stay the same really, cabaye tiote HBA cisse Krul Santon Saylor, Thats 7 i’d say would start from last seasons squad, the spines still there just several positions have been upgraded.
Although i agree about defence especially as its going to be multi lingual, communications could be an issue. Against norwich i could already see willo and debuch having issues communicating.
126 Transfer Sage // Jan 14, 2013 at 12:17 PM

There are so many issues at the club it is difficult to blame one player like you say. Willo did a decent job last year when next to an inform colo and supported by tiote and jonas playing some good defensive football.
Here are our issues for me (summed up briefly)
- no pace in the team…means we struggle to push teams back, no space for us to pass, they can then press high, make it harder for us to pass and also they can win the ball higher up the field making it more dangerous for us
- we play too defensive in a lot of games, try to stop the opposition without offering a threat..this means other teams can commit more players forward as we have too many back so don’t threaten on the break
-we don’t have a consistent 11….or even a single consistent area of the team like a settled back 4 or a settled midfield
- we seem to be confused in what style to go for, players are too quick to unload the ball upfield to avoid losing it trying to keep it (not just willo, they all have done this)
- little movement – a lot of players seem to stand and watch santon or ben arfa run with the ball
- ba was appeased…pushed cisse into a position he couldn’t handle and we didn’t have a player on the bench to take his place out wide so he was played even when it didn’t work
Hopefully the signings we make will allow this to put right…remy adds the pace, a few players coming in means hopefully we will field a settled team or have more chance to anyway, more attacking football might happen as pardew recently has them playing better on the ground.
So things look to be going right….we do need a new CB but with the other improvements I think willo will look better.

To IitianToon, Transfer and any others that dont really know the rivalry between ourselves and the unwashed please read………………………………………………………………..Newcastle Upon Tyne is a city unlike 5under1and who were incorrectly awarded City status in a sympathy vote by the Queen! You need a cathedral to be a city.
Newcastle Upon Tyne is a city where by majority of 5under1and players and backroom staff live, shop and dine, why’s that? i wonder i will tell you why 5under1and is a shit hole. How many Mackems socialise in Newcastle? Thousands!. Newcastle was top UK short break destination 4 years running, 5under1and has 1 hotel and was recently confirmed as the 4th worst place on Britain to live, how many mackems go on holiday from Newcastle airport? Why’s that? Because 5under1and hasn’t got one!… When abroad the Red n Whites proclaim to be Geordies as nobody knows where 5under1and is. The word Mackem is a derogatory term used by Geordies to those on Queerside, this came from the shipyards. Now they are happy to call themselves Mackems – a derogatory name, however Red n Whites from Durham, South Tyneside hate been labelled a Mackem and find it highly offensive to be accused as coming from 5under1and or been a ” townie”… The Magpies – Newcastle United gave been called the Mags for over 100 years, 5under1and had to hold a fans vote on a nickname 10 years ago as they have no tradition or history.
In 119 years of football on Tyneside NUFC have only finished below 5under1and 27 times, we have only lost on Queerside 3 times in 50 years, NUFC are still one of the top 20 most profitable clubs in Europe, we have played in Europe over 100 times compared to 5under1ands 4.. Nobody in Europe knows where or what 5under1and is.. Everyone has heard of Newcastle United. Our lowest attendance in the league in the championship was the same as 5under1ands average for the same season the premiership.During the English civil war the good men of Newcastle fought for king and country, the urchins on Queerside sided with the enemy, the battle of Boldon was fought and won by the king and his backers from Tyneside! The settlement on the Queerside was forever cast ASUNDER by the king – a land divided, and was born ASUNDERLAND! A land of perpetrators and scum, this is still evident today. Geordies comes from George’s men. Triumphant through a brave defence this also came from the civil war. Which is still displayed on the city Crest today……………………………. not my words but that of a fellow Magpie! HATRED is a strong word but i would definitely say that there is hatred between the two clubs!

Transfer- I have to agree with you and others of the mentality of some posters. Reading afterwards comments made during our games could lead you to believe that they were those of opposition fans. Today it seems though that Beattie has sorted out his medication because he could currently be mistaken for a fan. The highlight on Saturday aside from getting a point was the wonderful reception for Cabaye from the travelling Toon army. He reciprocated at the end of the game by throwing his shirt to the fans. He has a real presence and should Coloccini depart these shores make an ideal captain. Noticeably his arrival produced the best spell in Debuchy’s game with good link up play. Previously Debuchy having taken up good positions in an advanced area was often totally ignored. I suspect because it was not the sort of ploy in Simpson’s game. A returning HBA will bring the best out of Debuchy in an attacking sense. Cisse was poor but the service to him was non existent. Krul looked assured again and Williamson was steady and won a number of balls in the air. Anita’s touch was poor but maybe explained because some of the midfield movement around him was limited. People criticise Jonas but he covered painstakingly for Santon who had is best game for a few weeks. We looked more solid and organised defensively. It was good to see Debuchy getting goal side of opposition attackers when the ball was on the other wing something that was often not apart of Simpson’s game. Coloccini organised the defence and I strongly share the view
that he should stay. Transfer news is great and let’s get behind the manager and the team . The selection of players coming in is that of Pardew and if speculation becomes reality he is to be commended. I might even recognise MA’s cash contribution!!

We do have pace (Jonas and Obertan) but their end product doesn’t deliver goals for themselves or others. Beckham had no pace but he could deliver. Bale has pace and can deliver. I think it’s more down to coaching or the lack of.
I have to disagree with you about ‘consistent 11….or settled back 4′ in the sense that it’s not Pardew’s fault (although some fans would blame him) about the extent of our injuries this season which has been unprecedented.
I agree with the rest of what you say. To me the biggest problem has been a lack of confidence probably brought on by the scale of the injuries plus the strain of the added European games and being forced by necessity to throw too many second (and having seen many of them now) third string players on at once.
Hopefully with many senior players now coming back from injury and some new faces the team should bounce back.

Under Ashley the club pays the full transfer fee to the selling club upfront whereas before we and currently so many other clubs would pay in installments.
For the selling club this is very attractive as they can either bank the money and gain interest or use to buy replacements without having to borrow from their banks.

I do know the history between the two clubs and rivalries between two cities.
I don’t think there is hatred between the majority of fans at both clubs. I know a lot of people who are mackems, a lot of friends are, they don’t really hate newcastle nor do I hate sunderland, I see them as a rival and a team which is usually below us in league position and quality but ideally I would like them to a similar standard to us to have real competition, would love us both competing for the top 4, ideally with boro too but never going to happen with those two as they don’t attract the players we do and they don’t have the money either.
Sunderland is correctly a city under knew terms though…although not in the traditional sense as you say…even though there is no reason for them to be a city as there isn’t much there.

that’s my biggest criticism, the passing and moving is truly abysmal. The number of times you see a guy with the ball with no other black and white shirts anywhere near him in support. I guess it’s a by-product of hoofball I’m afraid. That has nothing to do with inuries or lack of signings, just rank coaching.

I’m not blaming pards for an unsettled team…he has lost players so often that’s its been impossible to get a team out consistently….I do think that has impacted on the season, we were settled last year.
Jonas doesn’t have pace…got to disagree with you there.
Obertan is meant to have pace but I have only seen him run a handful of times….he often rarely runs in behind the fullback, so even if he has pace he doesn’t really use it as it should be.

Transfer – You have listed lots of things that aren’t good. At any given time there is a list of things that aren;t working well- but we are in the midst of our worst premiership run of all time. Williamson is ‘not good enough’ for Toon okay..but then Man U fans say the same about Evans, Arsenal about Koseilny, Chelsea about Luiz – but they don’t go 11 out of 14 defeats in a row.

Thats what I am saying.
Williamson is not responsible for all of those defeats.
I am saying that if we add a new CB, get some pace in remy, continue with our recent, better passing game then we should see improvements.
Williamson is just the face of everything people see wrong, error prone, long ball and out of his depth….but i do agree it’s not all down to him.
And regarding cisse….I would say he has been a winger not a right sided forward….the amount he is tracking back and the amount of time he spends wide i’d say is a problem.
But when he has played central he hasn’t been much better.
He is a player that scores…he doesn’t create his own chance like suarez or aguero…..he needs good service and he simply hasn’t had enough….but he has missed some chances he should have taken.

I agree pace isn’t essential but it is there is nearly all the top sides…so whilst it’s not a major problem and not a reason to be 15th….it is a small factor which isn’t helping us. Not so much we lack blistering pace but we also lack even modest pace with a lot of them.
The main problem did come from getting cisse and ba together…it clearly didn’t work and this should have been identified by the manager earlier.

There is a myth relating to a ‘lack of creativity’ in football.
When we don’t create chances, the first thing people do is say ‘we need a creative midfielder through the middle’ or ‘Ben arfa/Cabaye back to unlock defenses’.
Even with them in earlier this season – we haven’t created nearly enough chances. At times we’ve had 3 or 4 attacking midfielders on the pitch and not carved a single opening.
Passing and tempo is the real mother of creativity. Otherwise teams can just pick out the ‘creative player’ and stem the flow from them.. too easy.

nick-9. Agreed. I think what Nobby said about players wanting too many touches was a good insight into where we are going wrong as a team.
I remember under SBR how big the pitch looked – his newcastle teams stretched the opposition. Against Norwich we looked a bit better in the 2nd half – but still passed hither and thither and lacked movement off the ball.
206 beefman13 // Jan 14, 2013 at 1:30 PM
Beattie, it was one of pardews interviews after the game he actually said, we have went a long way to putting right our miserable performance against Brighton last week in the cup, and the fans got a more worthy honest performance from our players.
Ilistened to the game and in all honesty mr pardew it was the most depressing game i have listened to for a long long time, we gained a point which is a plus but dropped a league place which if it happened on the last game of the season could take us down.
I really do support the regime at NUFC, and that regime employed Alan Pardew, and he did so well last season but one swallow does not make a summer, i am praying we improve as we obviously have to, but our manager is stagnent in his approach and tactics and it needs to change or even with the improved personel we could be in for a serious nailbiter come the last few games of the season, he has me that worried.

I cant help thinking cisse might not be a good fit if we are to persist with a lone striker in a 451as many on here want to see. He is not great with his back to goal, although has improved, is weak in the air, lazy and hasnt got very good movement off the ball. If we are to get the best out of him i really think 442 is the only way. Feeding off shola (or remy?) who would absorb he hits and win flick ons etc i could see him doing a lot better. Do you play a formation that suits your players or select players that suit your formation? I always thought the former. If the latter, then remy might go straight in as dont think cisse can do it well enough right now

Beddersmag…he played loan striker last season in 433 and bagged 13 goals.
Problem saturday was we really played 451 not 433, which made it very easy for the centre halves as they only had one guy to deal with all game…there DM was pretty effective so he was just so isolated.
That was the consequence of playing not to lose. When we have Remy and Hatem they will be playing alot closer to him, dragging centre halves around and giving him more space.

Christ it may be someone like Baines (surely 28 is not too old) if I really want to dream.
We might just have a decent squad, but shame we could not get them last summer.
All I want is to go to the Villa game and have a chance of a win – hoping they will get signed quickly and bedded in before then. I have been to 5 Away games this season and seen 1 point out of 12 Prem games (one was Brighton in the Cup).
Was anyone else impressed by the young Left Winger from Club Brugges, Lestienne? If HBA goes in the summer then he would be my replacement.

Given Reading’s porous defence we should be able to score a couple at least. However they are up for a scrap by the looks of it; so we cant be soft fairies in this one. T all you lot knocking Pardew – especially Catchy – listen to what Ben Arfa has said “First, I must save my club. I only think of that. Help my team and my coach, with whom I get along great. We really want to fight for him.”
So there you have it from the mouth of a player “We really want to fight for him.”
Those claiming he has lost the dressing room are talking utter bollox. HBA had no need to say what he did, he said that because that is how he and the other players feel.
Apart from the Brighton game, when the young uns failed to perform, there has been no lack of effort and determination from the team. No way has Pardew lost the dressing room or anywhere close.

Agree we have alot of squad players who have served us well (and some that havent!) but if we want to kick on they need upgrading, obviously not all this window! Glad debuchy’s in thats simmo upgraded we need a CB no doubt and in the summer i think we need to look at players like obertan and gosling and say do they really have a future here?
I get what your saying about the youngsters
For me they have been underwhelming, but they have come into the team under tricky circumstances
But there our a couple that for me at there age they should be much futher with there ability than they are
Steve stuanton was on goals on sunday yesterday talking about the amount of youngsters villa have used this season and is it harsh when people are saying we should be seeing better from them, his answer was no, although there 20/21/22 there grown men who are paid to do a job and shouldnt hide behind there age you cant do it in real life at that age so why can you in football?
Have too agree maybe not with the 18/19 yr olds but the lads over 21 for me should be showing alot more than they are imho

Bills son i support the regime at nufc i ihave stuck up for MA through thick and thin and had dogs beacuse of it, but manager has been a shambles this season, injuries or not, catchy is severe in his critisism i know hat but he really does have valid points about AP, we haveno second plan, he has handled ben arfa well fair commen on that but he continually downtrods players by saying they are not good enough for us tet he pleaded with the owner to keep theml together, none have shown up this season apart from the ba who is away, it showsme things are not right, he has to change his without doubt,
On the brighton game so you are saying pech williamson santon shola were spot on and the youngins were all crap? Well for me only sammy ameobi was really poor, the younger players performed better than the seniors imo, you sound like themanager in your previous post, and that is not good at all

Wonder how much Wilfred Zaha costs?
If it is around 12million then to be fair no criticism can be aimed at our club for signing a french international footballer with plenty to prove for 8 million.
English players are a waste of space.
Mind you wouldnt of minded Sturridge, even though he is nearly as greedy as Ba.
Just wonder if we get a team full of international footballers will Pardew stil set the team up to get a draw at teams like Villa, Reading and Norwich.
If Ashley signs these ‘Purples’ then Pardew has no excuse for not getting the team playing good football. By the way Jonas covers for Santon fine however if he didnt give the ball away so much then maybe we wouldnt have to defend so much.
Jonas should be not just be dropped but sold, he no longer belongs at a top club, unless he is happy as a backup.

i agree,,
obertan has been my big bug bear since he got here
he was 22 and had been at the biggest club in the world, working with some of the best coaches in the world, and went backwards
he is 24 soon, and hides in games, for me he is very lazy, he makes poor decissions in games,
and worst of all he can not cross a ball, for a winger that is bread and butter
i think players like amalfitano, have not been given a chance, he is 23, seems a tidy player
ferguson, i think he is the best out of all the kids we have, and should start ehead of sammy for me, sammy has no problem going past players, but does not no when to pass, and i still have not seen a cross from him
biggi, has been given a good chance, and isnt bad
abied,, i like the kid,, i have seen him in the u21 and looks good in pre season 2 years running he has been one of our better players,,
vukic, i think could be world class, he is very injury prone,, he could become a very strong box to box MFer
campbell, very excited about him, he has something special about him
what i dont like about pardew is,, when things are going well for him, his subs are always the same, shola, obertan, its these time when he should be blooding kids, not throwing them in the deepend and expecting them to dig him out of a hole

Two Points.
Bills – totally agree with those words from Ben Arfa, it is reassuring that our best footballer has a great deal of time for Pardew, so credit there and it was good to hear.
People know my view on Pardew, there has been signs of good football, Arsenal away was brilliant for the first 45, and Man Utd away we got the ball down and played, however those games we pressed up the pitch and Anita and Bigi were great at that, yet again he brings Jonas straight back in after injury who just sits on Santon, he is a big problem to the team for me, and Pardrips continuous picking of his faves will contribute to his predictable sacking.
If only he changed his ways and started letting his team express themselves So So Sad.

Catchy so if you don`t pay much attention to what managers say then why do you feel the need to slate Pardew for whatever he says?
If any manager had an axe to grind with Newcastle and Pardew it is Hughton. The fact that he saw our problems in terms of injuries to key players and extra Euro games seems pretty honest to me. He also had the same problem with Birmingham last year. The slightest hint of a problem and you jump on Pardew but when players and an ex manager speak in support then that evidence is irrelevant.

met Hoots last year at the GR football show, top gent! Reckon he is a very good manager for a low budget side! From what i’ve seen he does well to get the best out of whatever players he’s got! Can honestly say he’s the only manager thats got much out of Andy Carroll! Could also argue he’s the only manager jose enrique performed under too! At norwich hes assembled a side from scraps and their far out performing their stature! I’d say they have the weakest squad in the league yet theyre not in the bottom 6! Also, look how he did at Birmingham last year compared to clarkie this year, virtually the same squad! Hoots is underrated, cant see him ever being a top 4 manager but hes a very good smaller club boss!

can’t believe i’ve seen Rami linked with us! that guys a collosus! Not seen him play since he joined valencia but was so so impressive at Lille!
Be very excited if we sign sissoko but he is not nearly the player of his midfield partner at toulouse, Etienne Capoue! Can also play centrehalf! If Carr has been watching tolouse there is no way he has not been mentioned!

I reckon remy may go in at rw with benny switching to LW, as yoy said there have been signs of wanting to play good football hopefully this window we will get the last few puzzle pieces and see a much more fluent team this second half of the season
330 DokToon // Jan 14, 2013 at 4:07 PM
maybe a dumb question, my friend went over and picked me up an authentic toon jersey, blank on the back… i wanted to put HTM on it, but do you think hell still be a toon this time next season? if not, who would the board recommend for it… its near impossible to find one over here, and dont want to jinx it…
all recommedations appreciated…
331 jayphoto // Jan 14, 2013 at 4:08 PM
@TDS – always thought Remi was more dangerous coming in from the left when he was at Nice! At Marseille he drifts out to the left alot! The only annoying thing is when he plays central he never holds position in the middle, is quite Henry esque in his postioning! Always said i prefer aubameyang to remy, hes a better character, happier, no dark cloud, but if the club get Remy happy then we have a player on our hands! Gonna need to keep him out of the Bigg Market and the quays though…..

I might be a little cynical but i have a terrible feeling that if we sign Bong then Ashley will sell Santon
We are crying out for some midfielder who can create chances because with the loss of Ba we are very short of goals in this team because without Cisse scoring there is nobody else who will score goals and this scares me

DokToon – If by HTM, you mean Hatem? then i wouldn’t like to say where he will be this time next year in todays current climate.
However, i have had players on the back of shirts before who have left the season after and i have not regretted it, and still been able to wear the shirt and player proudly afterwards. Just because they’ve left doesn’t mean you can’t still value them for thier time in black and white.
Examples would be my shirts with Emre and Milner on the back, which i still reguarly wear, as i think they’re two absolutely fantastic players regardless of who they play for.

Good point.
Ashley has to not only strengthen this window but show he understand why he has to strengthen.
Even if we sign 3/4 players and then get to the summer and sign none or only 1 I dont think we could say he has learned.
He needs to realise the summer was a mistake and to not repeat that.
But I will judge him on this window for now, no point worrying over summer business yet.

is he aged 29 or over?
has he played for Man United (at any level)?
does he have an extremely average and usually 4 letter long English name?
does he cost twice as much as a similar style player from Europe who’s twice as good?
If yes to 2 of 4, sign him up on 50k a week, if yes to 3 or more, sign him up on 75k a week.
get a few other 32-34 year old gadgies in on loan and we’ll start to resemble a team that could’ve won something 5-6 years ago.

Torq – stated earlier that Remy is not keen on Rednapp…..and NUFC have strong contingency of French players. Remy needs to be settled mentally to re-gain his best form….and so I believe that NUFC is his best choice…….I hope that he agrees and decides to stay with NUFC in his choice. We can help him regain his pedigree and his French International status….we ‘ve helped HBA and we’ll help Remy through these tough times….the lad would be lost at Spurs and would not be the right move either.

385 check the toastie // Jan 14, 2013 at 5:10 PM
For me if Remy signs so be it, the club has agreed a deal with Marseille and with the lad as well, if he fancies a career in the championship with Arry in the championship so be it, he wasnt worth signing.
The club should be applauded for trying to do business quickly, if the player does pull out at the last minute for cash then let him go, not totally convinced by the signing anyway.
Strikers who have always relied on pace over 25 rarely progress, bellamy excluded.
I would like to add i would be pleased if he signed.
I would also like to add i have no idea what im talking about.

Would be very disappointing if Colo does go, having too many changes in our defensive line up midseason could swing either way, good or bad, it’s another gamble. Getting a Lescott type, one that’s already upto the pace of the premier league etc. would be less of a gamble though.
If we get Remy that certainly seems like good news and I think would fit into our system well. I mean our system as in the fans prefered 4-3-3, 4-5-1 rather than Pardew’s prefered as only he seems to know that.

If Remy has been on blower to cabaye then he’s coming here, I just hope we offer competitive terms to what seems like a top player.
As for Benny he sounds fully commited to us but Its obvious he wants a move to psg at some point but loves it here. Ben Arfa should go down as a winner of something in history but if he stays here he will only be remembered by mainly toon fans. I admit we’re doing ok minus the recent spell but its is thing to get these players here but it’s another thing to keep them. Not even arsenal can keep their players and I would argue some of ours are better.
