We knew that Newcastle were very interested in Moussa Sissoko, the 22 year-old French international central midfielder, but it turns out that Newcastle were hoping to secure a deal for the 5 times capped French International in the summer, but his club Toulouse putting a £3.5M tag on him in January has changed all that.
Moussa Sissoko – now a January target for Magpies
The two other clubs thought to be interested in Sissoko are Sunderland and Juventus, but Newcastle will now move quickly in an attempt to get the player on Tyneside this month – even though it will now cost them around £3.5M.
Certainly Derek LLambias and Secretary Lee Charnley have been very busy in the January transfer window so far, and they were in France over the weekend, and seem to have been successful in wrapping up the signing of Loic Remy – a five year deal that should be announced tomorrow.
And it seems that Graham Carr was at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Friday night for St Etienne’s 2-2 home draw with Toulouse, and a certain Moussa Sissoko played the whole game for Toulouse.
We’d be really disappointed if we lose out on Sissoko, especially if the lad moves to Sunderland – heaven forbid.
But the news in the local papers today is that Newcastle are after several players, and the next signing could be a center-back – and he will be coming in regardless of what Newcastle can work out with Fabricio Coloccini this week.
Apparently Newcastle will not go after FC Twente’s Douglas – and Sam Allardyce will not sell James Tomkins in January – so we wonder if it’s possible to get the Montpelier captain 23 year-old Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa through the door?
He would be an excellent buy for Newcastle – but the news is that Newcastle are also after Jores Okore, the 22 year-old 4 times capped Danish International, who was born in Abidjan, in the Ivory Coast.

Comment #42Torq- you were comparing him to Ben Arfa and Marveaux etc who are ‘creative’ players. You cant compare him to them but apart from that, i totally agree. Stability and a great all round midfielder who in my opionion is better than what we have. I also dont think he will need to adjust, he is ready to go.

He is not just a defensive player, he is similar to Anita and can play any role in midfield if needed. Offensive and Defensive he is a good passer of the ball.
Buying him for so cheap allows you to have quality beyond the starting 11, most likely by dropping someone like Anita/Tiote to the bench to accomodate him.
He will also be more dangerous during a set piece than Anita or Tiote.
3.5m we do need a player like him. If you want to get rid of someone to allow him to be “needed” get rid of Gosling, Obertan, RTaylor players who are not good enough or injury prone.
I would like to see
Sissoko
Remy
CB (Mbiwa PLEASE!!!)
LB
Why left back, because we have Ferguson as our only cover as a natural full back on the left. Atleast Santon can move to right back if needed.

Comment #48TADS…really dissagree with you there mate…
…the club (manager/medical) knows the risk they are running and at the expense of the player.
Results are just too important – they cling to the slightest chance that a player is fit and ready.
A sports doctor can easily tell you if you should play or not. I could have told you Benny should not play – and I did 😉
You don’t really have to agree with me you know 😉 I am not looking for confirmation lol (sorry that was not meant as disrespect)

Comment #51Okay ! If we are going to start putting teams on here:
Team for Reading :
Krul
Debuchy Willo Collo Santon
Tiote Anita
Marvaux Remy Cabaye
Papiss
Who we got to replace Willo by next Saturday, ideally would want someone else in there but there is no-one else barring a new signing!
The Team i.d like to see when there is no-one injured and fit to play:
KRUL
DEBUCHY SAYLOR COLLO SANTON
SISSOKO
MARVAUX CABAYE HATEM
REMY PAPISS
The second eleven would probably see us not omly stay up but at least secure us a mid -table finnish and if no-one leaves this summer give us a chance to push for something special next season!

Comment #57Sage – I would collapse in excitement if either of those players signed. But I can’t see it myself. I.M would command a HUGE fee that I can’t see us splashing out.
The name doing the rounds in this area at the minute is Toby Alderweireld. Rumours say he is already in talks but this is all just word of mouth from a friend at Lille with big connections in Belgium.
I’d still prefer Mbwia but either of these two would be unreal.

How do I have the wrong idea of sissoko?
I was stating he wasn’t a creator or goal scorer and more in the mould of tiote and anita? Sit deep, play it simple to the guys in front but can also drive forward a bit.
He is different from diame and toure for me….they both get much further forward and score more goals.

that would be a good signing…good old toby (I struggle with his surname haha).
I would like us to bring yanga-mbiwa and toby in but thats being greedy…one now, one summer please
The thing with ashley is he buys on value….whilst I think munain would be too expensive but if we signed him for say 20/25mil (maybe less as spanish clubs are financially struggling) then he might increase even further in value which is a ‘good investment’ from ashley.

Debuchy – DONE (6m)
Alderweild – Rumored talks (6m)
Remy – Confirmed talks (8m)
Sissoko – Rumored talks (4m)
I would try and sell
Simpson 1m
Gosling 1m
Ba 5m (DONE)
That is a 17m net spend, I would praise the board due to the investment and caliber the players bought.
We need CB, LAM, CM now if we are to have a successful window. This doesnt mean our players will gel instantly. We need to start getting points and I believe 6 points against Reading and Villa are required. Nothing less will suffice! Norwich draw is a good point I think.

Sissoko is a very creative player. If you watch him he can play the final pass and has a very similar mold to Diame, hes a box to box player.
He has pace, despite his height. I am not saying he is Yaya Toure, but he will no doubt run forward with similar power.
I feel people assume he is a defensive midfielder when infact he is generally an allround midfielder and would be dangerous on a set piece.
lloydie780
Jan 14, 2013 at 11:32 AM
Comment #66I would say he is similair to Diame purely because of his physique but agreed not the goals. A better all round player though. He could drive the game in a single way. Just throwing a name in there for CBbut i would still like Simon Kjaer. Not throwing too much at it, young and a good rep.
Torq- its because we are signing/trying to sign players. To out a negative spin on it this should have all happeneed in the summer including Ba leaving then we would have been prepared and have a stronger squad for a hard season. We now have to hope we pick up second half with new player onboard and that our big players dont want to leave with no european football next year.

the sissokho fee will be less….closer to 3 mil I think the club said they wanted.
That would be a great window though, and would cover every area we need as of now.
It would be a great sign by the board to rescue the problems left over from a poor summer window.
Providing lessens have been learned and they are treating the cause and not the symptons then we will hopefully not see another season like this.

on sissokho..
I’m not saying he isn’t capable of a final pass. I just meant he is more of a player who starts off deeper…moving forward with the ball as oppose to a cabaye who prefers to start high up the pitch.
I think players who play deeper still have a good final ball, look at anita…..maybe the best of all of them is xabi alonso…sits deep and sprays the ball around.
Having looked at diame’s stats though he may be that kind of player as he doesn’t bang them in either.

Comment #77Mbiwa, Alderwield or Rami … it’s like being in a sweet shop. It’s the stuff dreams are made of. All would make our team instantly infinitely better.
Can’t believe we’ve been linked with Rami for any reason other than him being French, he’s just too established already he would be a huge coup.

Why is Alderwield an unrealistic target – when Yanga-Mbiwa is a possibility?
