We knew that Newcastle were very interested in Moussa Sissoko, the 22 year-old French international central midfielder, but it turns out that Newcastle were hoping to secure a deal for the 5 times capped French International in the summer, but his club Toulouse putting a £3.5M tag on him in January has changed all that.
Moussa Sissoko – now a January target for Magpies
The two other clubs thought to be interested in Sissoko are Sunderland and Juventus, but Newcastle will now move quickly in an attempt to get the player on Tyneside this month – even though it will now cost them around £3.5M.
Certainly Derek LLambias and Secretary Lee Charnley have been very busy in the January transfer window so far, and they were in France over the weekend, and seem to have been successful in wrapping up the signing of Loic Remy – a five year deal that should be announced tomorrow.
And it seems that Graham Carr was at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Friday night for St Etienne’s 2-2 home draw with Toulouse, and a certain Moussa Sissoko played the whole game for Toulouse.
We’d be really disappointed if we lose out on Sissoko, especially if the lad moves to Sunderland – heaven forbid.
But the news in the local papers today is that Newcastle are after several players, and the next signing could be a center-back – and he will be coming in regardless of what Newcastle can work out with Fabricio Coloccini this week.
Apparently Newcastle will not go after FC Twente’s Douglas – and Sam Allardyce will not sell James Tomkins in January – so we wonder if it’s possible to get the Montpelier captain 23 year-old Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa through the door?
He would be an excellent buy for Newcastle – but the news is that Newcastle are also after Jores Okore, the 22 year-old 4 times capped Danish International, who was born in Abidjan, in the Ivory Coast.

Comment #1I think this is our starting lineup for next game, even if Remy is ready:
Krul
Debuch–STaylor(if fit)-Colo(if he stays)-Santon
Perch–ANita
Marv–Cabaye–Guti
Cisse
Subs:Elliot,Tavs,Bigi,Remy,Obertan(Sammy),Shola.
Feel for Marv. Looks like he is gonna be back on the bench soon. 🙁

Comment #5Would love mbiwa. As I was reading about this signing I was thinking we desperately need a defender not a cm, even tho I’d like us to get this lad. And then the last part came 😉 and hopefully we tie up remy in time to play against reading as I’m at the match and with any luck mbiwa too

I will investigate the sunderland voodoo rumour as soon as my biohazard suit arrives…as well as my silver cross to repel those heathens.
And with regards to HBA being a PSG fan…..it’s hard to say as I have never heard it before and I don’t know the guy.
I would agree though that a journo will often ask loaded questions to get answers to write headlines….and when things are translated sometimes the exact meaning of words are lost.

Comment #13OKay please treat this as an innocent question, because I do not know the geography around Newcastle as I’m from India.
Do Newcastle and Sunderland people hate each other outside of football.. like is there some class divison which makes this rivalry so bitter?

Got the choice of Marseilles vs Montpellier or Toulouse vs Nancy this weekend. I’ve seen a lot of the first 2 so maybe venture to watch Toulouse – who will be without Sissoko I’m sure. Also gives a chance to watch Haidara play again for Nancy. Although rumours are rife that he was whisked away from training last week for a ‘meeting’! Although linked with us – this could mean a number of things.

Comment #16God i really hope this one comes off purely as he is my favourite player worldwide. Watch alot of french football and i love this guy. One thing we have alwasy lacked is a big guy in the centre of the pitch who can win stuff aerially and dominate. A real powerhouse, if we get him we have finally got one. so so excited, but also worried my dream player doesn’t come. Just so you all know he is a very physical player and would be a perfect DM but he has so much more to his game too. Can play a pass and can chip in with the odd goal. Come on guys lets get the business done, this kid has to come.

The rivalry extends back over a hundred years to the english civil war around 1640. The two areas were on different sides.
Newcastle is a richer city, has more high paid jobs and everything but both newcastle and sunderland have working class areas within the cities.
There is no real hatred between the two areas though, get the odd bit of trouble but it’s pretty much all football related and in the minority of people.
Both have successful universities and plenty opportunities to better yourself financially though.

Comment #18Sissoko is good, but as with Remy i don’y quite understand the need for him. Surely strengthening the defense and the creative midfield must be of higher priority ?
Sissoko is like Tiote, a mosnter/bruiser in midfield with decent distribution, but not really somebody to score or feed the strikers.

Comment #21I know Sissoko looks a very decent player but is another CM really necessary? Aren’t there a few other voids to fill first?
I guess if this:
DCM – DCM
RAM – CAM – LAM
ST
Formation is going to be our new formation then maybe we do need him especially during ACN… personally after Remy is signed up and if we had all to choose from I’d put cabaye and tiote as the DCMs. Tiote winning the ball and Cabaye spraying it around to Benny Marv and Remy
Krul
Debuchy Colo Saylor Santon
Cabaye Tiote
Remy Marv Benny
Cisse
Pretty sexy to me…

Comment #23The picture showcases the man perfectly. Big and powerful, leaving opponents on the floor. If we don’t try and sign him it’ll be an injustice.
He isn’t the finished article yet but in a few years he’ll be up there with Viera and Toure in my opinion.

Comment #28the most sissokho has had in a season is 8 goals
a typical is season is 2/3 goals withe same assists.
We have cabaye and marvoux, even ben arfa as a creator who can play behind the striker
We currently only have tiote and anita who play a deeper role as a DM and can spread the ball.
I still would like diame but at least sissokho is french so wont be off to Africa every other season.

Comment #30I hate to be ride but priorities when it comes to transfers should never get in the way of the single most important thing which is overal depth and quality.
If you went into town and you needed a lock for you door to stop people trying to break in but as you wondered around you saw a power tool for an extrodinary price and there was only one left what would you do? Add to that the fact that you had more than enough money and your next door neighbour was sniffing around for it too of course you’d buy it.
I just think you need to open up your kind to a way of thinking that allows you to see that transfers aren’t a 1 dimensional process. You can buy several players at once. It’s a matter of bidding and talking and signing.
That’s why 3 or 4 are warming up.
This is one player we can’t miss out on.
Not one player we have has the ability to win the ball in defense and power up field. If Anita wins it or Cabaye they pass it. If Willo wins it or Tiote it’s a hoof. If Moussa won it he’d run, like Diame, up field and that’s something we need.

Comment #31Sissoko isn’t a goal scoring midfielder!!!!! First and foremost he is a powerhouse. He has a solid all round game but due to his size his defensive and physical elements are particularly strong.

Comment #32really annoys me when people say we dont need Sissoko. If a player becomes available, who is better than what you already have, for a very low price, then you always need them. Its not going to affect any other business we do as its already been said we will get a CB, and already have Debuchy, and nearly Remy over the line.
Im not the biggest fan of our board, but seems like they cant win. They get slagged for not buying players, then when we are apparently trying to bring in several top quality players, people start saying we don.t need them.
We DO need Sissoko because Tiote has been shocking for about 18 months now, a total liability who does mroe harm than good. Sissoko is twice the player he is

It is mate yes, and if you have been there and done that surely you cant single out one person? Look how many players play nearly half seasons on injenctions!

Comment #34Lloydie – did I miss something? Are people expecting Sissoko to come here and a ore goals?! That’s not what he is about at all. He is about adding composure and stability to our midfield and protection to our back line.
It’s not about goals with this lad! He is a player and will be better than Mr T in time! That’s for certain.
