Newcastle Bid For French U21 Defender – Video

9:10 pm, Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 225 Comments

News is coming through that Newcastle have put in a firm bid for 20 year-old Nancy left-back Massadio Haidara, who has been capped twice at the France U21 level.

Massadio Haidara

Massadio Haidera – Newcastle talking terms with 20 year-old

And it seems the bid of around £2.5M may have been accepted by Nancy, because Newcastle are now said to be in discussions with the 5’10″ tall player, and his agent.

It seems that if personal terms can be agreed with player, he could be joining the club this week, but it’s thought he would be under-study to Davide Santon initially, although Newcastle will hope this lad improves quickly once he arrives at the club.

The player has played 33 times for Nancy and the Trappes born youngster has been capped at the French U19, U20 and U21 levels, and it seems we were first linked with Massadio about a week ago.

If we have any French readers who have watched this layer – let us know what he’s like.

Spurs, Aston Villa and Fiorentina are also being linked with the 20 year-old.

Here’s some footage of the player – compliments of reader 89Norcal

I suppose it’s nice as a cover to Santon and to keep him on his toes competitively.

God knows how long Raylor can continue on if he keeps wrecking himself.

  • 4 Thump // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:12 PM

    Left = centre?

  • 5 Toon1978 // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:13 PM

This is very confusing because imo we are more in need of a striker and a centre back or two. Really hope the club come up with the goods.

Looks a work in progress, but definitely higher effort on defense than Santon.

Seeing as we cant develop players, why buy him.
Unless new and reputable coaches are on the way.

Well done Ed, didnt expect yet another, the advertisers must be on your back to knock these articles out eh ha ha?

    Repost –

Oh great alf is hanging round like a red and white striped stench smelling of disaster. Hows the patter tonight, bob? You stirring it with your little stick again you bad boy ha ha.

So, let me recap – Remy is training with QPR tomorrow and looking forward to playing against us and sending us down to the championship, Beattie is the latest ITK wonder, Proud is flat sharing with Lucky Lucan, Tim Krul having a medical in Italy tomorrow morning, we are buying Mr Bunn the bakers son as our No 1 for two bob and a blood orange, and there’s a 3-way scrap arranged in the car park next to the Strawb saturday noon.

There or thereabouts? missed any details?

I dont think even Ashley is stupid enough to let Collo go and refuse to bring in a replacement or two. I have seen a lot of rumors on here today, names like Rami and the lad Mbiwi. We’ll see ;)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Wk46z28gTE

We could probably do with some LB cover so I’m not going to grumble..

Just a couple of CBs needed now… Striker would be nice but I’m not really expecting one..

If Colo is going back, it would seem logical to me for him and Lorenzo to be paying a small amount as compensation to MA. Even then it is a rather nice gesture from Ashley to cancel his contract if this does happen.

(For those of you slating Ashley saying he is doing it for the wage savings) – Dont be stupid, Colo could be sold to a PL club for £5M, I am sure he would rather do that given the option! Let alone the money needed to bring in another CB….

Off subject, and it’s probs already been mentioned earlier, but did anybody else see the picture of Michael Johnson (The one Citeh recently released) on the news? I thought he was a bloody good player, but now he’s just obese. Looks like he’s been taking eating lessons off Sam Alardyce.

  • 32 Nick 69 // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:26 PM

why do people automatically start shouting Santons away because we bid for another left back. Have none of you took notice of our team this season and what the managers has been saying? We don’t have a big enough SQUAD. We need cover, and competition for places. Santon is the only left back we have, so we NEED another. And have you ever thought that maybe, Pardew is also considering playing Santon further forward in some games, as we are also short on wingers. FFS before whinging about someone leaving, who by the way has said himself he isnt. Wait and see if something actually does happen.

  • 33 RonVanDam // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:26 PM

Sorry for my negativity earlier have had my dinner and feel more optimistic!!!

Right lets get this guy signed up before Roma actually make a move

Say what you like but we do need a left sided defender could also push Santon as the left sided forward in a 433?

Then get Rami , De Jong , Mbiwa and Sissoko and just be so solid at the back that teams dont even try to attack us and we win every game 1 nil!!!

  • 35 Tsunki // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:28 PM

Wonder if Sol would be interested in a half season.

  • 36 d4ve19 // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:28 PM

I have noticed everybody keeps saying we dont need an LB we just need a CB and a striker.

Im not gonna argue we need those positions but we have even less depth at left back IMO!! If santon gets injured our left back is one of… R.Taylor, Perch, Ferguson or Dummett! Santon has played every game this season and has looked exhausted recently in my opinion, not to mention his history of knee injuries.

He has also been wooed by Italian clubs for the last year inc. ROma and Milan this week. If he decided to go back to Italy in the summer we dont have anyone.

I think the board realise the glaring weakness (one of many admittedly) in the squad and are attempting to rectify it before one of the above happens and we all tear them to shreds in a months time for not having the forsight to buy a left back!

  • 37 G // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:28 PM

@ post 30, to be fair if I had spent the last couple of years being paid Citeh money, but being unable to train due to injuries, then I probs would have sat around drinking, smoking and living off takeaway. I dread to think what sort of shape I would be in (Spherical is a fair guess?). I was just amazed at the decline.

We have another full half a window to go, and we know nothing about who is on the list so we could all be busting vessels for nothing. Our club saviour and his negotiating wizards will save the day.

  • 55 Nick 69 // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:39 PM

tequilamag – Im no fan of Ashley, but fact is, its obvious he’s realised he’s made a mistake in the summer not buying and they ARE working to fix it. We have signed 1, came close to another and made another solid bid. And widely reported to have met/contacted quite a few others clubs regarding players.

Like I say im not huge fan of Ashley, but seems if we don’t sign people he’s slagged, and when we do try and sign people he’s slagged. Wish people would just sit back and wait, as so far this is one of the most interesting and active transfer windows we’ve had in a LONG time

  • 56 globetrotgeordie // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:39 PM

Many years of globetrotting stopped me from attending many games, but this blog has kept me going we’re ever I was over the last 3 years! Great work Ed ! This is my 1st post

This transfer window is going alright I think so far! Ok Ba has gone, we all knew it would happen. Colo, well what can u say! As for signings, Debuchy should have been sorted in the summer but he is a class act and he’s here. As for new signings, I saw plenty people loving Remy, but having watched my fair share of French Ligue 1, there is better. If he was so good, the big boys would have took him long ago! Now the circus starts on who is coming in, Haidara is quality, quite raw, but has fire! I love that in a player the dons the black and white. For the other names mooted, de Jong etc. I can, and the rest can only hope, we are a massive club, do why not?

As for players in our squad, we have so much dead weight. Gosling etc. the squad in my opinion needs trimmed of all this get 17 top quality players, no more Obertans on the bench etc. trim it, then build it in the summer.

I do hope we just shape up by the start of next season. Don’t let players leave because we lack ambition. We are NUFC, we are ambition! Build in what we have. We aren’t gunna get relegated. But the management have made the error this summer gone, and trust me nike won’t make the same error twice! He got over a billion to prove it.

    Thanks for letting me speak

    HWTL

  • 76 BigKirky // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:49 PM

If this lad comes in Santon can push forward to left wing. John Carver said on his interview on Radio Newcastle that they see Santon’s role further forward in the future.

Just because we look to strengthen an area, I don’t understand why some people panic about players being sold. Players come and go, don’t get too panicky that one in means one out. It’s not like that all the time. Strengthening is good most of the time. Priority is in other areas, but hopefully they have that still to come.

I really want a CB and forward winger in before Saturday.

  • 77 Nick 69 // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:49 PM

Thump – of course they’re trying to fix it, they’re trying to buy players. Making bids, talking to clubs and players. January is always harder, teams dont want to seel, and players are a lot more reluctant to move. Wait until the end of the window before complaining he hasn’t tried. Fact is we’ve probably been more active than most other clubs so far

  • 78 No Plain Saylor // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:50 PM

    NUFCarter,
Its on Sky Sports mate! Yeah i know, but if your puttin up an article have a quick google search see the latest! The last thing toon fans need is to start thinking haidara is amazing, becoming excited, and watch him go to roma.. Pretty depressing window without feelin like we missed out.. again

  • 79 jayphoto // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:50 PM

seen Haidara a fair few times on tv, never live but i reckon enough to give an average opinion! if hes signed to bolster the squad then amazing, but if he’s signed to replace santon then its really bad! He’s not in the same league as santon! Very hard working and amazing athleticism but little composure, not great passing, crossing or control and he can pull off some heavy tackles but then he can misjudge a few badly too, kinda goes all in on a lot of challenges, ball and man! Hes very quick tho!

  • 80 p // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:50 PM

I know some people are complaining about how newcastle are targetting left backs atm which people have pointed out but to be honest they are right we shouldnt be signing them until we have a CB and ST signed up for they are our priorities but a left back after that will be very pleasing. focus on the priorities first.

Makes me laugh because people are scouting Valciennes defense to death, with Mirin, Haidara etc….suprised no one is talking about foued Kadir or Gael Danic, they are the reason valciennes have performed so well! they arent right for toon like but Valciennes are doing well in the ligue 1 because of their offense, not defense, their defense hasn’t been amazing

  • 87 G // Jan 15, 2013 at 9:57 PM

He has the body of a 7 foot titan but the stumpy legs and arms of a 3 foot weight lifter.

I certainly could see Santon as a winger in the future, but right now we have no one to cover for him effectively.

Maybe Gutierrez, but that would be taking a chance I think.

Good grief..are some posters here stuck in a time portal or white hole? Talk of ‘let’s wait and see’, ‘January is a tough time to buy’, ‘we are trying to get players over the line’….it’s all a crock of shite. The people who are running the club are incompetents, flying by the seat of their pants and don’t have any credible strategy in place.
They are beginning to realise that next year’s pot of TV gold may be disappearing under the increasing threat of relegation, yet we have 1 out and 1 in! Of course, Jan is a hard time to buy – our own MD told us that 2years ago when he bagged £35m for Carroll. So why the f**k did he sit on his smug arse and do nothing in the summer??
“Mike Ashley knows nothing about football and Derek Llambias knows even less than him.”
The club is a farce and it hardly stacks their cards up for a successful conclusion to the begging negotiations they will hold with Colo tomorrow!
I happened to be in the company of a club official lastnight and felt pity that such a decent person had to work in such an unfortunate role, trying to defend the indefensible.

Its that dreaded time of year again, yes transfer time is here. We have bid for lots of targets but will end up with none I fear. We have already lost our prime target in the shape of remy, pardew has egg on his face but redknapps popped a semi. Money is the deciding factor but remy was a gamble, a hope hes just a major flop just like titus bramble. Ba has left a sinking ship but let’s all wish him luck, I obviously mean this sarcastically, the money grabbing f***. Alls doom and gloom for our great club and everyone feels gash,so come on fat man see the light and part with lots of cash. We only need a player or ten to reach those lofty heights, but players who want to play for us not money grabbing s****s. I don’t blame pardew for this mess and therefore would not sack him, look at the positives my geordie friends at least your not a mackem.

Players should have been identified and secured as soon as January dawned at the very least, because a huge opportunity was spunked 6 months ago….we have crucial games coming up which, if they go the wrong way, will only ratchet up the pressure on the team and any new arrivals…they should have been secured and settling in by now so that they could boost the morale and contribute to the huge games against Reading and Villa

  • 121 jimiley // Jan 15, 2013 at 10:21 PM

When we get our performers back, we will not need players like Ba and Colo who do not want to play for us. We should be positive and trust in Alan to get us up the league. we would all like more quality players but we have enuf now for mid table security. Get behind Alan and Big Mike. In the next 10 years we will win something!!!

  • 123 p // Jan 15, 2013 at 10:22 PM

Well there was a match tonight for QPR and it was away so, maybe key personnel were traveling and attending the game.

I do expect him to be unveiled tomorrow but, you never know.

I think everything about this has been said though, he is risk signing that has moved to QPR for money not footballing reasons – everyone in the game seems to agree with that.

If so, no one at Newcastle is to blame.

QPR are putting all their chips on the table, survival or bust.

Hey everyone, I’m trying to think of the best XI for Newcastle over the last ten years… what do you guys think?

    ———————Given————————-
    Solano—Woodgate—-Coloccini—-Bernard
    Ben Arfa—Parker——-Cabaye——Robert
    ————–Shearer—–Bellamy————-

Subs: Krul, S. Taylor, Speed, Ba, Dyer, Carroll, Enrique

Right back and 2nd choice striker were difficult for me. I’d sooner have Solano on that right hand side.

Other players who need a mention: Owen, Kliuvert, Milner, N’Zogbia, Tiote and of course Viana (who could forget, after all it is his birthday!)

Anyone I’ve forgotten? Remember this is the last 10 years!

I agree, most players seem to go backward in their development when they come to the club, always been the same. That is worrying and should be addressed. You can have a nice shiny academy but that is a waste of time if you don’t have the coaching etc to develop players.

However, to the other point, yes all signings are a risk but this guys valuation more than halved in less than a year. There are reasons for that.

    From tomorrows Daily Fail!!

Newcastle are planning to bring the brilliant Ajax captain Siem de Jong to the Premier League in a £9million deal that will show their transfer ambition.
De Jong, 23, is a playmaker who can play either in midfield or attack. He can also play as an old-fashioned No 10 and his capture will excite the Newcastle fans.
He has scored seven goals in 18 league games this season and this Swiss-born attacker would light up St James’ Park.

if we stick to pardew i think qpr will finish above us…eventhough i dont like redneck hes 10 times the manager pardew is.. qpr are in form.. we wont be with the style we play.. we might get a few scrappy wins, but i dont see us playing real football in the near future.. perhaps if cabaye starts ignoring pardews style.. hatem will score some wonder goals..so we might survive, but thats it..

  • 183 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 15, 2013 at 11:22 PM

Mick Lowes is probably bunged cash by Ashley to feed us bullsh*t TBH. The only thing he knows is how to eat food, and vast quantities at that :)

Anyone else think there is real trouble ahead? Everyone is linked away!
    HBA – PSG
    Collo – Arg
    Santon – Italy
    Krul – Italy

That is the core of our squad and a lot of players seem unsettled.

I think what bothers me most is that I have never rated Cisse even last year. He is clumsy, misses sitters, can’t hold the ball up and looks impossible to partner! I almost believe Shola would be better off up top with 3 in behind!!! Desperate times, this window is vital.

This situation would never of happened if MA invested in the summer instead of panic buying now….. Worried for our survival in the prem I really am.

yeah i think its quite possible we will go down…but this time i dont think we will come back in 1st try..

first off…ashley needs to spend…at least 3, 4 quality players so other players will see nufc is serius about 5 year plan..& he needs to sack pardew.. what we play now is no football.. its not attractive to us fans, to player that might join..& to players we already have.. sure..pardew was 5th last year..but that was cos we started the season so well..11 games unbeaten..that lifted the players..not to mention ba, cabaye & then cisse with wonder goals.. pardew didnt really have much to do last year..

    obertan, cisse, marv

thats whats on Cashley mind, and thats a Newcastle guaranty.

  • 202 nick_9 // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:17 AM

ToonLyf i was trying to go for as recent 11 as i can with mine otherwise i would have gone with Given, Robert and of course Shearer over Ba.

  • 206 fray bentos // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:23 AM

Some of these best and worst teams are mental?!

I realise some of you are probably young but how can you not include some of these players; shearer, Beardsley, gazza, lee, ginola etc in them, you must have watched videos from before robson

Also Anderson is quite simply the worst forward to ever play for us, trust me there is nobody’s worse

And boumsong has to be the worst defender, putting Williamson in there is a bit ott, we have had far worse, he’s just having a bad patch as are the rest of the team at the moment so you all put him in, very fickle

  • 207 nick_9 // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:25 AM

Nightfall i mentioned Gourcuff a few days back after seeing a transfer report on sky. Its crazy how much value their is in France, i think a lot of players want out because of the income tax rate. There will be no talent left over there soon.

Wonder if we are any closer to seeing a new recruit though the door.

  • 208 toonLYF // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:25 AM

i’ve got Santon to the left of me, Debuchy to the right, here I am, stuck in the middle with Mike.

  • 209 GAZ09 // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:26 AM

No good blaming Redknapp it basically boils down too QPR wanting survival and success more than we do. Ashely shows very little ambition and drive to move us out of trouble and bring some success.

  • 210 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:27 AM

well lads lets just face the fact that no one is coming to the toon anytime soon and i still say what i said at the begging of the season that them cockney twats will only bring in 1 player in jan and look whats happening,

any way WHEN we get relegated any1 fancy taking up rugby instead. LOL.

  • 211 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:30 AM

toonlyf, great song lyrics mate i wonder if pardew sings that about Cashley and lambass

  • 212 nick_9 // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:42 AM

Haha good work Toonlyf. funnily enough i also heard Colo singing those song lyrics with his hands on his head. I think if i was paired up with Willo in another country i would get pretty homesick sharpish.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21032414

Redknapp stating how its “The type of money hopefully we can pull off two deals for is fantastic.”

There is a man who doesn’t care about the accounts or wage bill. Wonder if Fernandez will stay around long enough to make sure they dont go bust? If they go down they are in serious trouble with some of the older players. I imagine most of the new players will have release clauses

  • 222 Sav // Jan 16, 2013 at 1:04 AM

This Haidara kid looks a good prospect for development and as such, a decent investment for £2 mil of FatAsh’s money. However, he is not what we need specifically now and we’ll be neither better nor worse for his signing as we head south in the table.

  • 223 nick_9 // Jan 16, 2013 at 1:15 AM

Nufc Leazes End – They really went all in on the description in that link didn’t they….

As for Remy someone tweeted tony fernandez him the following: ” Shocking! Remy £8.3 m to Marseille. £80,000 p/w AND a free transfer release clause if the club get relegated @tonyfernandes please not true”

His response was “Hahahahaha. I’m seen some crazy things. This beats them all.”

Could be press rubbish or perhaps he is in denial. I hope Remy has gone their for a pay packet otherwise its a bit more of a kick in the teeth if he hasn’t. The sooner we sign a decent striker the sooner we can forget about Remy!

  • 224 soundoid // Jan 16, 2013 at 1:15 AM

Remember when we beat sunderland 5-1 or coming from 4 goals down to draw with arsenal.

    Happy days fellas,

    WTF happened?

  • 225 nick_9 // Jan 16, 2013 at 1:34 AM

Fighting Spirit has gone Soundoid. Not many players have the cojones to grab the game by the neck when times get tough whereas Barton and Nolan did. I worry about our players in the derbies since we lost so many british lads. Cabaye is back now so he might give it ago and i’m sure both fullbacks will have a crack at it. We need the steel of tiote again, the drive of ben arfa and the pride in steven taylor on the field.

Sign some players man, sick of reading about colo leaving, krul and santon to italy, ben arfa to psg. If Ac want a fullback and a keeper they can have the loyal Stevie Harper and Danny Simpson, if Psg come knocking Obertan can do a few stepovers
