Coloccini Meeting Delayed Until Monday – Will Play Saturday

10:43 am, Wednesday, January 16th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 151 Comments

It looks like Fabricio Coloccini has not played his last game for Newcastle – well not yet anyway. It seems that the meeting that was to take place today has now been delayed until Monday, according to the Evening Chronicle who quote Colo’s friends as the source of that information.

fabricio coloccini - new colors

Fabricio Coloccini - meeting now on Monday

So we’re still not sure which way this thing will go,  but San Lorenzo wanted a decision this week, or else they said they would move on to other plans.  And it seems the rumors that he will leave this week have been denied bu the club – so that’s good.

It seems strange to us that Argentine club San Lorenzo want him to get out of his contract,  so they can sign the player on a free transfer – but isn’t that what contracts are for – to keep the player at the club?

It’s clear that Pardew wants to keep the South American at least through the end of the season, and that would help us in our relegation battle, and also give us time in the summer to replace him with a top center-back.

But it’s all still up in the air – but at least Colo will be playing against Reading on Saturday – so that’s some good news.

We need some of that after what’s happened this month.

Comments welcome.

Does anyone on here remember when we signed Killer… now that’s the kind of mind set we need in a defender for the coming months.
I remember watching him ‘introduce’ himself to the opposition’s CF at the beginning of matches… couldn’t get away with that nowadays

    3 points

    3-1 to the toon

2 to cisse 1 to Marveaux, Shola with an O.G

    If he plays sat
Our chance to let him know how much we want him to stay
Probably too late but give it a go

Maybe I am a bit young or not familiar with the street lingo in Newcastle, but who is Killer?

off topic i wouldn’t mind if we got Danny graham as a sub. loyal local lad who is better than shola and can score a few. as a sub obviously

    Good news!….sort of lol

I’m with Ed.. seriously, contracts seem to be ripped to shreds easier than old mail in this game. If I cancel my contract with the cell phone company I have to pay a $600 fee!

If I could get my own curly-haired Argentine center-half for free, I’d sign up in an instant

  • 7 Markaccus // Jan 16, 2013 at 10:50 AM

Ffs indian, to accuse shola of an og, before he’s even on the pitch is rediculous. You are the most awful fan that any sport has ever had.

    @ Lyon Capital
According to our information, the English club Newcastle have views Bafé Gomis (11 goals in 19 league games this season).
Desiring to replace Demba Ba, transferred to Chelsea, the Magpies who come to steal to Loic Remy by Queens Park Rangers are considering making an offer to OL in the next few days.
The Lyon striker whose market value is estimated at 10 million euros would finish the season at Lyon.

  • 14 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 16, 2013 at 10:58 AM

I started to follow NUFC in ’95 so maybe that’s why I don’t remember him!

-92-94 with 32 games under his belt.

    Taken from wiki:

‘When Kevin Keegan became manager of Newcastle United in 1992, “Killer”[2] Kilcline was his first signing, and was immediately installed as club captain. He became known for his hard tackling and aerial ability – he often would prefer a diving header to a volley, even for balls only half a metre off the ground. Keegan later remarked that Kilcline was the most important signing he had ever made for the club. This was echoed by fans, who considered him partially responsible for saving the club from relegation and possible bankruptcy.’

    *Respect! :)

  • 15 Markaccus // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM

No, I’m not sholas biggest fan by any stretch, but he gets far too much stick. Indian always dumps on him, even if he has done well in a game (it does happen). He hatred of shola is psychotic!

  • 27 BenbulbenMag // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:09 AM

Well, we wouldn’t want to disappoint San Lorenzo now would we ? How dare we take so long to decide over our players contract when they are offering us the princely sum of £0.00. Afterall when they go after an “A” class defender we should do everything to accommodate them including tearing up the contract of a player that could potentially save us from relegation and bring in around £5m in the summer.

  • 28 DarloGeordie // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:09 AM

Not psychotic just very immature inmho…

Kilcline they just don’t make em like that anymore and on the odd occasion when they do they get red cards for great challenges

  • 29 Markaccus // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:10 AM

Again, uncalled for, he’s been no more or less $h1t than anyone else this season so far, so he shouldn’t be singled out. People like you are the ones who, when at school, blamed the goaly for your team losing by one goal, even if they saved every other shot on target.

  • 30 Transfer Sage // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:10 AM

I like shola….but cannot really exaplain why other than he is a local lad. He played through injuries which is credit to him but it did more harm than good as he was always average and this made him worse.

He seems way to lazy on the pitch too.

However he is the only player we have (other than ben arfa) who is happy to try something on his weaker foot, he is also never seems to shy away from a hard situation and often comes through at big times in games….I appreciate this about him.

But his time is almost up.

  • 31 Transfer Sage // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:13 AM

This Colo thing is really annoying me now.

Why don’t we give him compassionate leave….after all that would be better as he could then spend all his time with his family back home and not worry about training and playing.

Then he can rejoin us next season. Or it gives them a chance to sell a few players to fund the transfer in the summer.

Also Argentina is a big place, I know his dad works at this club but is it near his where all of his family are based?

  • 32 Ben3arfa // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:15 AM

Im sure we wont sign any more players this window EVEN IF COLO LEAVES

Depressing following the club whilst being run by these clowns lol

  • 33 martoon // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:16 AM

I’m with Markaccus – Shola gets far too much stick on this blog – people forget it was his goals that helped us get back out of the championship.

  • 34 Markaccus // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:16 AM

Last comment was directed at indian and dubzy, just in case darlomag thought it was for him its not :D .
I agree he has had too many chances. He had a reasonable run of appearances and decent form near the start of this season, but as usual he’s falling back to mediocrity. He’s very much a 20 min player at best now. Only way to get the effort out of him.

  • 35 the1willy // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:17 AM

If Colo does leave, who should be captain. I think one of his weaknesses is the fact he’s ‘too nice’ on the pitch (especially now). We need someone who can really ‘lead’ out there. Tony Adams style. I don’t really see anyone in our squad willing to boss and impose

  • 36 Markaccus // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:18 AM

    Morning, Martoon. How’s things?

  • 37 @lukehodge_ // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:20 AM

  • 39 nick_9 // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:23 AM

Anyone using the mobile version of this season? Where on earth do you log in? I can’t see any options to log in even at the bottom it says “you must be” in the add comment section, but doesn’t say log in or out.

As for Collo if it is for reasons such as his wife being I’ll then I would like to see us show some compassion but the trouble is we need one cb as it is and I feel we will be lucky to get 1. If he just wants to return to dan Lorenzo then I honestly couldn’t give a carp. It’s one thing to want to go to a different club and its anther thing to have a family member very I’ll. I guess we will know more in the next week or so. Can anyone realistically see us signing two central defenders and a striker?

  • 40 nick_9 // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:24 AM

  • 42 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:24 AM

nick_9…there are problems with the mobile version of the sire temporarily. This is what Ed has posted:

“I’ve had to disable the usual mobile version of the site -because the CPU usage is far too high and Tiger Technologies is having difficulty keeping the site going – it’s under stress – so I am desperately looking for ways to save CPU time – please be patient with the new mobile version of the site until I can sort something out.”

  • 45 the1willy // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:26 AM

@lukehodge Yeah, but the IF is a rather big IF. He’s another that bleeds for the cause, but sadly he bleeds a wee bit too easily.

Erm… can’t really think of anyone else. Cabaye might be that type, but he does tend to get in a strop from time to time

  • 46 colwell // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:27 AM

If no more players come in this window and especially if Colo leaves no doubt about it we’ll be relegated.

Teams strengthened their squads around us in the summer and have climbed above us, now the teams around us are doing the same and may well leave us behind.

QPR are getting stronger and playing well it won’t be long untill their out of the relegation zone, even Saints are above us. Its definitely not a good time to be a toon fan.

  • 47 Markaccus // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:28 AM

I quite like this version. The other one displayed the comments in reverse order, which I didn’t like.

  • 48 bemba da // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:28 AM

Only people I’d give the captaincy to would be Krul or Saylor (providing he’s fit). Only people I can see imposing themselves to others on the pitch, that speak decent English. I think Shola would try and be a good captain but I dont think anyone would pay attention because whether he does or he doesn’t, it doesn’t appear that he has a high workrate

  • 49 Shane // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:29 AM

The “lazy” tag Shola has always been nailed with is completely rubbish. nothing about the way he plays says lazy. He has a low stamina, we all have different levels of no matter how fit and how hard we train. He always wants the ball, will challenge in the air for any ball, he likes to hold the ball at his feet and does this brilliantly. He has a brilliantly accurate shot on him and can use both feet confidently and well.

Just because he doesn’t have the pace and stamina to bomb forward or track back does NOT make him lazy.

Is he good enough for our squad, no. Have we got anybody proven in the prem with the experience he has on our books other than Cisse, no. So should he get games, yes.

  • 56 nick_9 // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:34 AM

Jesper and markaccus – thanks, had not seen a note from ed and will keep an eye out for the login near the top corner.

Glad to see the snow melting away, I just hope the club or council make sure the game can go ahead on Saturday. Hate travelling down to sjp and finding out its cancelled.

As for a captain I think cabaye is the most passionate player we have sometimes and we have a lot of French speaking players in the eleven. I think it would be in our interest to get all the lads up to speed with their English and especially cabaye if he cannot already. Colo was always a strange choice for me as was Guti as vice.

  • 57 @lukehodge_ // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:34 AM

the mobile version is shit anyway.. the last comment comes up at the top of ther page so you have to constantly scroll down.. and i would like to say cabaye as captin but really dont know what hes like behined the scenes! you would have to say next captin would be french though..

Shola is lazy….any player can run more than he does…..he is way to static.

He does have his positive attributes like you say, he just lacks any form of consistency.

John Tudor – If it got personal then there’s no excuse for that. However what has been already said is that he may have riled people up by constantly barraging and criticising the club unfairly rather than in a decent and civilised manner.

We all hope he gets better, and we all hope that once he does and is back on here – he can use the blog properly and constructively, therefore avoiding any repeat.

    well…mrs Tudor

I think everyone on this site receives criticism, a lot of it over the top and people get personal. People seem to think that when conversing on the internet all usual social protocol doesn’t apply anymore.

Best bit of advice I offer you and your husband….don’t take any of it to heart. Rise above it and only respond to people you respect. The more you criticise these other people the more insults you get.

However if a controversial view is posted expect even genuine people to challenge you for it, not to criticise or put your view down, just to understand your rationale behind it.

  • 65 Raffo // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:39 AM

Jonas shouldnt be in the team, he isnt good enough anymore. Hurts to say but there you go.

Perhaps the meeting has been delayed so we can find a replacement, Alderweild or similar, and he gets to say goodbye to SJP on Sat. Lets see his reaction at final whistle. I for one would be happy for him to go to San Lorenzo if it is for the right reasons, if he ended up at AC Milan then I would find that hard to accept. Family is everything, to be honest he just has a job with the Toon, and no jobs worth more than family. We have a slanted view as we are the lifeblood of the club.

Heres hoping for some good transfer news today. Please Mike

I agree, family comes first. And Colo is in a great position where he could probably walk into another ‘job’ closer to home and be made for life from a few years work.

What I will say though is the club cannot be ‘too kind’ here and we need to be a bit selfish.

I think, providing the circumstances are right, allow him to go on compassionate leave for a few months if san lorenzo cannot pay an acceptable fee now.

He would then not be playing for them or us so could spend all his time with his family, surely the better option.

This gives san lorenzo a chance to save or to sell players to finance a move for colo.

Afternoon sage – No nothing I’m afraid. All very quiet.

As I said first thing today – I believe that our Haidara bid has been accepted as of 10 days ago and we are now in advanced discussions. This ISN’T with a view to get rid of santon (lazy journos) but to move him further up the park and have Haidara as full back.

All eerily quiet with regards Mbwia and Alderwield, Adil Rami is open to a move but not heard anything concrete about a bid.

And striker wise – absolutely nothing! I wish I knew somebody based in Spain so they could do some digging over there. :-)

    Any news your end?

That is the problem though, if Haidara signed after a CB and Striker/Winger were signed great but before worries me.

He will count as a player signed and Pards could come and say he wanted 1 or 2 in and thats what he got?

  • 84 check the toastie // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:50 AM

    Still not signed anybody :(

However personally think if Saylor can get fit he is pretty much the most important member of the side. Gives the team leadership and a real example of how to put your body on the line.

Limping to try and stop Chelski attacking last year with a snapped achilles tendon is what Stevie Taylor is all about.

  • 85 Markaccus // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:51 AM

Given the amount of time it takes us to sign players we really shouldn’t be wasting time tying up a deal that can be done in the summer

Cant see Colo being allowed to leave, Ashley wont show sympathy if the rumours are true about him cheating. If his father or family member was dying maybe then.
This shit window has deflated my love for the toon. It’s not to late to sign defenders but cant see it.
Hoped we could bring in a decent freebie to play up with Cisse, believe he’ll come good with a tall, fast, eager youngster alongside him, but that wont happen either. Sounding , nowt to be enthusiastic about.

The way we have imploded is staggering, and none of us saw it being this bad. But in reality, as I have said here umpteen times, Ashley is NOT a good owner and those who have espoused his patronage and the wonderfully tight way our club is being run need to wake up and smell the coffee. How could you have been blinded by so many of the devisive and stupid things he did – all because we went on a run and our strikers were in good form last season. So you then decided that his type of stewardship was what we needed, when clearly eh showed all summer long that he has NO REAL AMBITION for NUFC . If Cisse doesnt start scoring we’re in major trouble. So much for the cockiness of all those who sang the praises of the regime in the summer, and bracketed people like me a “negger” for chastising the club for their unambitious transfer policy. Egg on faces. Another concern I have is that the players we sign ( usually because of value ) dont seem to match Pardew’s more direct philosophy but I am still hoping that will evolve. Strangely, it still seems that no-one else was interviewed when Pardew joined. How bad is that , and what does it say about Ashley and Llambias??

  • 101 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 16, 2013 at 11:59 AM

  • 102 TorqToon // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:01 PM

Jesp – On Gomis – all I’ve heard is that we have being in communication with Lyon with regards transfers. I assume its him – and given that KK was interested in signing him all those years ago – it’s not come as a massive surprise to the club.

Financially Lyon aren’t rich and a decent offer would secure him I believe. Like I said – nothing really new with regards a striking option – but that isn’t necessarily a bad sign.

  • 103 Magpietillidie22 // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:01 PM

The only the thing I can think of is with COLO still here, Taylor due back and Cabaye now back that the board think theyve got more time to wheel and deal as we are now close to full strength again…

I just hope we have all players in, colo sorted and nobody leaving by the Villa game. I do think (hope) there are some cisse style aces up their sleeves though

we are signing a left back because pards wants santon to play wing, no matter what santon says about prefering full back.

  • 106 Munster Mag // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:04 PM

TDS, I have explained our purchasing policy before. It is driven by value and discount – these are the key factors, not what is needed immediately on the pitch. Santon is a crap defender but lb isnt our priority. However the regime may see value in this French left back, and thats what is driving it. The key issue here is that when given a choice, MA failed the acid test of ambition. ie, when it was a good time to buy players in the summer, given Europe etc, he chose not to build on it. I think that said it all, and thats why I was such a “negger” at the time. And believe me , I want to like the regime and Pardew more ( I was a staunch fan ) but how can I with all this ineptitude and excuses from MA to Pards and back?? Look, lets hope we can get Sissoko – that would be a great lift…its a pity Tiote has gone backwards – maybe thats why he was sold in the first place ??

Isn’t it amazing? Monday I was UP, looking forward to Remy and the possibility that Pardew was actually being backed financially in this window, excited that the owner seemingly had learned the lessons dished out this season from not strengthening in the summer. Everything in the garden was rosey.
Not 3 days later, someone has come along and backed a truck full of horse-shite onto the roses and killed off any hope I had.
    Predictably unpredictable.

My one glimmer of hope is that this might (might) be an ego blow to Ashley. Fernandez personally talked Remy out of coming to us (cos that’s the reality of what he did) and that Harry Dogschops pulled yet another fast one when he fed us all the line that ‘Gordon Bennet, me trousers. I couldn’t even get a meeting with the lad, guv’nor’
Maybe it’s time Dickhead Lambsarse and his portly boss showed the other owners what a nasty pair of bast@rds they are, instead of proving it to us supporters time and time again.

  • 117 Transfer Sage // Jan 16, 2013 at 12:18 PM

I posted on an earlier thread that to do things on a budget we need things in place…a proper football MD not derek llambias, some plan of how we want to play and coaches/managers all through out the club at all levels who play the same and link up well, we also need more scouting and to bring in the right players (seem to do that now).

I think our aim should be consistently in top 8, and push for europe when we can…I think that is realistic, top 4 would be nice but I think that is too much money to expect…although nothing to say it can’t happen building slowly over time…but mainly top 8 for me.

I think ashley messed up hugely in the summer…after having a relatively good 2 windows before that…not perfect but acceptable.

I’d say as long as he learns from the summer I am happy, if we strengthen now what we should have done in the summer and replace Ba then its ok…..then in the summer he need to show he ha learned and strengthen again…another 2-3 into the squad plus any kids on top of that, not instead of.

Pardew’s career is on a knife edge for me, we have seen better football of late against man utd and arsenal but some dire stuff against norwich and qpr…those are the games we should attack…where we have a good chance to win, not hope for a late goal off shola.

Hopefully pardew can show he has learned….if he hasn’t shown that by the summer I’d like him shown the door…might sound harsh to some but one good season isn’t enough. I appreciate he has had problems this year but we aren’t using a style/system to get the best from our available players….we are too negative and long ball orientated….this has to change.

Another sleepless night where I beckoned the icy finger of doom to save me from this mortal coil but she just laughed at me, knowing that the living day with a heart surrendered to a team dressed in black and white is a punishment more severe.

I’m not trying to defend Ashley and co. as I hate them as much as the next hater, but to be fair to them NUFC do need a LB.

We need a LB, 2xCB, CM, LW & ST.

I’m not saying we’ll get those but saying signing a LB is stupid is wrong, unless it is all we sign then it is stupid.

All of the good managers can outwit him, most of the inferior ones too. Anyone who played Simpson at RB for so long then had Cisse on the right as well is an utter fool. ” This is an excellent addition to our club, he has replaced the scouting network, which used to be tony fernandes pointing to his favourite players in his sticker book, and will be deployed on his first and only assignment, tracking every move of newcastle scout Graham Carr.” says Redknapp.

He went on to say “Tony has been great to me since I arrived, times were hard in my household so he managed to find a job for rosie as a guard dog on a wage of 100k a week, she has however trusted me with her income but for legal reasons funds will be paid into her own account in Switzerland.”

I don’t believe any of us who haven’t shared your optimism since the summer are losing any sleep over the likelihood of losing Remy. You have been calm and pretty consistent in sticking to your guns. I hope you are right. I do worry that Shola has gone from being fourth choice this time last year to second choice now, and a starter if we go with two up front. Good on you for not printing £25 million fantasy teams and claiming that’s progress. I worry that the Butland rumours, among others, suggest two things. One, that the club is still targeting “double your money” signings, whether of not they are an on the field priority NOW. And that money WILL be made available for these signings. My other fear is that any other signings, including the ones you and I agree we need, will only be made if the funds and space on the wage bill is met by selling. Once this window is closed, I’ll leave Ashley alone. He will have lost his main tool of intervention (bar changing manager). We need to get a wiggle on. It’s surprising, even to me, to see us entering the last fortnight of the window with so much still up in the air.
