After Newcastle failed to bring in their number one top target Loic Remy from Marseilles earlier this week, there is news today that Newcastle are now after French striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
Bafetimbi Gomis – Lyon 27 year-old striker
The Telegraph is reporting that Alan Pardew and the Toon Board have decided to go after the Lyon striker, who is often called Baby Drogba because his playing style resembles that of the great Didier Drogba, and the price should be what they agreed with Marseilles for Remy – about €10M or around £8.2M
Newcastle were linked with this player way back in the summer of 2008, and news reports at the time said they had lodged a €10M bid for the lad when he was still at Saint Etienne, and there were also reports we were interested in the striker last month.
So like Loic Remy – Gomis has been a long term target of Newcastle’s, but the bad news is that Chelsea are also interested in acquiring the striker.
Gomis joined Lyon from Saint Etienne for €13M in the summer of 2009, and the striker has played 10 times for France with 3 goals. This is his fourth season at Lyon and in 174 appearances he has scored 69 goals for the French club, so he can certainly score the goals.
But if Newcastle are to have any success this time around, they will need to show a lot more drive and determination to capture this lad, then they showed for Loic Remy.
But there’s no doubt the 27 year-old would be a good buy for Newcastle – if we can get him through the door that is.

Comment #521I wrote that like crap. Hopefully, my points got across anyway. Money and position are certainly factors but I think we would be more attractive than WBA despe their league position if money was equl.

Comment #523Mike Ashley seriously needs to have a think about what he wants to achieve, if he wants us to be a force and challenge the top clubs then he better invest, if not he needs to sell up and get out now before he takes this club down.

Comment #524Odemwingie pushing for a move to QPR. QPR seem to be making the most waves this window for survival.

Comment #526Pardew also said that United’s ongoing work in the transfer market was not a sign of them being “negligent”. He said: “We’ve done our homework. You can’t force someone to agree a contract, you can only put your best case forward and your best offer forward and go from there.”
He explained that the delay any deals was probably down to the player waiting to see if other options emerged.
He said: “If you put yourself in the position of the agent and you have a player that is desirable, and a really good club comes in and a lesser side comes in as well, you sometimes have the impression, because of the interest and the media coverage, that an even bigger one will come in for your player. So why sign early? Even if terms have been agreed, they are waiting to see if a more attractive project becomes available. No matter what finance you throw at the deal, sometimes everybody just wants to sit and wait.”

Comment #527I think it’s pretty disgraceful that the club have made no official statement regarding Coloccini. They don’t have to spill any beans – but it would just be nice of them to pretend that they give two sh1ts about their paying customers.

They’ve never given a damn about the fans, they simply don’t care
