The news on Fabricio Coloccini yesterday was that the meeting that was supposed to take place to resolve his future, was moved to next Monday, after it was supposed to take place yesterday.
Fabricio Coloccini – could be leaving on Monday
We may be the only ones, but we think this is all so bizarre with a club in Argentina – San Lorenzo – trying to get one of out best players for nothing basically, and Fabricio wants to just walk away from his contract at Newcastle, that still has three and a half years to run.
What’s wrong with this picture?
Coloccini has told Newcastle that he wants to return to Argentina because of personal reasons, and that’s all we’ve been told, although as you may expect there are lots of rumors out there, as to what has really happened.
San Lorenzo President Matias Lammens said this to TyC Sports:
“We were always very clear and we said that it depends on the player.” “We are going to offer him a good contract, he wants to come and I have hope that it can be done. We understand the people of Newcastle, it is hard to let a player like him leave.”
“But Coloccini has to end his contract. We depend on the feelings of the player and on what he can negotiate in England. We can’t buy his transfer in no way. He has been chosen as the best defender of the Premier League, he is an elite player.”
“San Lorenzo can only point to Coloccini’s feelings and not to his pocket. He has personal problems and wants to return to Argentina. We can only offer him a good contract.”
“Coloccini would be an emblem, we will wait until the end of this week – Sunday or Monday. But we do have a Plan B, and the preference of the coach is Mauro Cetto.”
This seems so unfair to Newcastle and if and when Colo leaves, then our fans will require some explanation – of how come we lost our captain and one of our very best players half through the season – when we are 5th bottom of the league table.
January so far is turning out to be a disaster for Newcastle, and maybe we’ll get some answers today from Alan Pardew during his press conference for the Reading game – but we wont be holding our breath.
Surely things can only go up from now on?

Comment #41Jarra….On Pardews recent silence…I would imagine it’s a case of fans wanting to hear something, but whenever anything is said it is not believed and met with anger by many fans. It is my hope and belief that they are working to bring in players and he’d rather send his message across with action rather than words.
It may be as simple as Pardew cannot say with any certainty what is happening and can only say we are working on the various situations. Not going to appease anyone really.

Comment #44hold on a min hows this any different than tapping a player up ?
surely toon can sue for unsetling the player.
and if collo was to buy out his contract would he have the millions to do it ? prob not i guess.
not worried about him going as i think its just a temper tantrum that pards is dealing with in the best way to make him feel like it was his choice to stay.
sign gomis and mbiwa pls

Comment #45Pardew has gone quiet because he is off thinking up his long list of excuses as to why we have signed no body that we desperately need in this window.
He has to think up why we have not replaced BA.
He has to think up why we are going to let Collo, our captain, walk away for free, with no sign of a replacement.
He has to think up why the board are not backing the ambitions or fulfilling promises made to the players.
He has to think up why Saggy Chops Redknapp can talk a player into a club that sits adrift at the bottom of the table, over a club full of French players.
He has to think up why he seems to have lost the morale and the never say die attitude that there used to be in that dressing room.
He has to think up why the hell he still has his job after the run we have been on, with no sign of change.

Comment #46What is it with the fathers of our central defenders? Is it some kind of paternal conspiracy – sign me, sign my dad, sort of thing? Over to you Mr Taylor senior?
Increasingly this stinks of skullduggery, and I have always been a great admirer of Colo. Come on lad, out with it, wtf is really going on here?

Comment #49Rumours going round that San Lorenzo have now set a deadline for this?!! WTF, a deadline for what? Us to release one of our star players for free? And if we don’t? Then what? You’ll move onto other targets? Oh no! What will we do? Idiots.

We all know the announcement.
“We would like to confirm that Newcastle United have completed their in coming transfer activity in this window. The club cannot guarantee that players will not leave before the window closes, but we can only address these departures when/if they happen.”

Comment #51Surely San Lorenzo must pay the going rate for Collo or Collo buys his contract out? We can’t be expected just to cancel his contract to have to spend a lot to replace him? Or are we?

Comment #52Posters complaining about Pardew being silent
Who cares?!?
Maybe he is using that time to spend more time on the training field which is what counts?
Im sure if he was doing loads of press conferences you would complain that he wasn’t spending enough time on the training field
Stop complaining about nothing, if you want to complain, then complain about that dire game at Norwich

Comment #53ibiza- i think ash wil just do enough to get by in the prem. staying up is a good year for him. as long as we are a “premier” side, he has all he needs to finance his lucrative babe (SD) .to some that may be fine – to me its not enough.
as for bonus’s i dont know – but maybe if he was to pay a little better wages , we may not lose all these players that slip through the net, i dont mean stupid money , but his policy must be more flexible for the more “quality” players we have in our sights .

Comment #54Stuart….Was just clarifying as it read to me that you didn’t think Ashley cared about league finish at all, so that could also included relegation, obviously not what you meant at all.
I honestly think there is a line with Ashley and what he wants to achieve that people misconstrue a fair bit. Obviously the first hurdle is to stay in the PL, the money is too important to miss out on. After that it’s a balance between investment and return. I think he’s “trying” to spend like a mid-table club, but to build us as a club that can push the EL spots etc. I say trying as clearly in the summer they failed in spectacular fashion.

Comment #55morning gents… Ibiza hows tricks fine sir????
I include myself in this comment so please feel free to have a pop… unlike many on here I can take a battering if deserved. but the point I want to make is how fickle we all seem to be….
I say this because only 9 or so months ago we were all hailing pardew as ‘pardiola’ (im sure we all remember), now only a matter of months later he is more hated than Osama was by the US marines. all because of his apparent tactics…
now I made this point the other night on this and stand by it 100%, now I agree that he will never be Sir alex or guardiolaesque but the guy is only playing to the strengths of the team at this time. he doesn’t/didn’t have cabaye, ben arfa, and others available to trick our way into the box so to me he didn’t have much other option.
also on the gaurdiola for the toon thing wether joke or not,i ask you the question how do we even know if guardiola is a decent manager?????? jesus Christ Ibiza could walk into the barca dressing room tell them to play the way they have always played and be crowned the best manager in the world because he has apparently turned this barca into some super force when they were that long before he was appointed manager… get my point and Ibiza sorry for using you as an example bud.

Comment #56I personally think talk of sacking Pardew at this time is disgusting. We need to be focused on reading and villa not chopping and changing. If he was sacked today would that benefit us going into Saturday? No it would be like xisco’s debut and hull city at home all over again.
Let’s get through two games and see where we fair. 6 points is the target, 4 is acceptable and less than that not good enough.
We won’t sign anybody until after reading when we have 10 days between games. Focus on playing wirh a more attack minded attitude on Saturday with cabaye and Taylor on from the start and wait and see.
Regarding Pardews silence. That is a good thing. Leave him to coach/manage. He is on tv far to often and should decline more interviews as there is only so much he can say anyway. I’d rather not hear him at all as hear spin which has no relevance.

Comment #57The whole thing stinks, if she is having medical treatment I can see why she left the kids with him. However, if it’s the case that he’s been a very naughty boy, why leave the kids with him? More to this than meets the eye and we will never know the full story.

Comment #58The decision in respect of Collo going has already been made. He is end of.
The discussions are to negotiate how much Collo will have to part with to terminate his contract with NUFC.
The reason is he is going to become a father again. The problem Collo is that his wife is not the expectant mother.
