It’s going to be such an important game against Reading at St. James’ Park tomorrow, assuming an expected snowfall doesn’t have the match called off, and certainly 3 points will be fantastic for Newcastle, and will help give our lads the confidence they need to start picking up more points to get away from the relegation zone.
Steven Taylor – should be back in the squad tomorrow
For the game tomorrow Newcastle will have three good players back – Yohan Cabaye and Shola Ameobi are expected to start the game, and Steven Taylor should also make the squad, and will probably start the game on the bench.
That’s good news for Newcastle, and certainly our defense needs to tighten up a lot, since it may prove difficult to score goals with Demba Ba gone, unless a certain Papiss Cisse can hit his stride, like he did in the second half of last season.
Alan Pardew was again upbeat as he talked to the local press today:
“We are not too far away now from last season and we have been involved in some tough games.” “Unfortunately through lack of depth and not having three players on the bench that can affect results, we have ended up on the wrong side of some scorelines.”
“We are a lot stronger this week and have some bodies back. The bench is a lot stronger. It makes me more confident.” “If I can keep what I have now and hopefully Ben Arfa and Chieck comes back, plus get a couple of bodies as well, ask me if we’ll get 40 points – the answer is for sure.”
It’s good news that Steven Taylor is back, because he will help the Newcastle defense become tighter unit, and don’t be surprised if Mike Williamson starts playing well, which we’ve noticed happens when his place is under threat.
But that’s all good news for Newcastle, but first things first – and the only thing that really matters right now – is that we can beat Reading tomorrow and make it eight points between the two clubs - that would be a good start.

Catchy…I wouldn’t say I’m confident at this point either. Right message from Pardew though imo.

So if Shola is a starter are we playing a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 with Cisse on the RW?
4 hotdog // Jan 18, 2013 at 1:53 PM
me neither – on being tired of the Transfer Window, im practically in a coma here ffs.
Anybody else having trouble with the mobile app on the iphone. Kicks me out when looking at posts and how the hell do you log in??

It’s snowing heavily here in Gosforth as I am posting this. I’d be quite happy to have the match postponed to allow STaylor to get fitter, and even for some else to sign up for us.

Good news. We need a leader on the pitch tomorrow to pull the lads through.
I think cabaye will be that man, giving orders from the middle of the park.
7 jimmysmith // Jan 18, 2013 at 1:54 PM
Shola to start. LOL. Ed, such a card!

What and you think under adkins we’d rocket up the table to europe?
Im all for making a positive management change, but for one that takes us forward not sideways or backwards
Roblee
For me if were looking for young exiting players we should be scouting more in the german and dutch leagues
The spanish and italian league players command big fee’s and big wages usually

If Shola starts and Cisse plays wide then my support of Pardew will wobble massively.
Needs to be:
Krul
Debuchy
Taylor
Colo
Santon
Anita
Cabaye
Jonas
Marv
Obertan
Cisse

@hotdog: it’s because the posts load independently from the rest of the page. Most mobiles simply don’t have enough memory to deal with it. I think there’s some old ones installed too which is causing a bit of a conflict.

So have bought anyone this afternoon?
12 rainrix // Jan 18, 2013 at 1:57 PM
Well at least he didn’t say “like a new signing”, wouldn’t want any more ammunition now would we
13 boater // Jan 18, 2013 at 1:58 PM
I’d play Shola and Cisse – we need experience and goalscorers on the pitch and Shola can hold the ball up for Cisse plus gives us some aerial clout at both ends. 4-3-3 worked with benny and ba – but with marveaux and obertan, very powder puff.

Atkins has been fired from Soton.

Sholas shite and lazy and is anything but a good example, why dont some people see this. Went to Stoke and they couldnt get rid quick enough, they were in the championship at the time.

*adkins
22 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:03 PM
I am sorry but Shola should be nowhere near the team
Reading are a poor poor team we should be attacking them from the off like we did against Man Utd and Arsenal with 5 in the midfield when we dont have the ball and 433 when we do
If Shola comes back in and Marveux drops out to accomodate him thats it i have no more faith in Pardew and I will be firmly in the Pardew out brigade
I can understand Jonas playing because he offers security for Santon and Debuchy getting forward which i can see a lot of that 2moro
But we need to control the midfield so Cabs Anita and Marveux in the middle and Jonas and Obertan playing on the wings
Although i would have Jonas on the right and Ober on the left
Although i can just image us playing
Cabs
Jonas
Perch
Anita
and Shola and Cisse up front meaning we will play long balls and be toothless up front

Yeah, I heard that one. Does make you wonder (they are very serious about stay up by the looks of it)
…I thought he’d done well though, but maybe it’s Houghton all over again?
26 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:05 PM
Steven Taylor and Shola Ameobi.
Thats our 2 new signings in the 2 key positions available!
We are saved!!
27 Mister Tuff // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:06 PM
jesper @11.
I’ve heard a few rumours about a new CB. I’m not 100% about this -he is called Michel Fils de Guillaume. I managed to get a picture but I’m sure I’ve seen him somewhere before. I’m not claiming a scoop though.

)
29 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:08 PM
I just don’t get what it is with Shola, he’s been at the club through a hole heap of managers, but every single one of them has seen something in him and given him a place in the squad, why do we not see anything in him on the pitch?
30 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:08 PM
Hotdog…Oh yes, the envy is eating away at me
Jesper….Seems bizarre to me, much like Hoots I guess.
Don’t really know much about their replacement, does anybody know if he is an improvement?
31 check the toastie // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:08 PM
Let me get this right, is Pardew now saying if we are unlucky and pick up some injuries again, he cant do anything to stop us being relegated, i think thats what he’s saying.
Bellend.
32 jimmysmith // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:09 PM
Good players coming back – yes. All fired up – probably not.
No fire in this teams belly and starting Shola under the circumstances would feel like adding insult to injury.

dammit ibiza, i spit my coffee on my computer after i figured that one out, you owe me for damages, lol…
35 boater // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:18 PM
Shola should be our 4th choice but he’s not. that’s not his fault, and he’s put himself on the line for the cause so often. Anyone who can’t see what he offers hold-up play wise during times like this completely lacks tactical perspective of any form.
I read Santonthenewmaldini the other day saying – ‘so he scored a goal against QPR ‘ whoopy do’.. that would be a goal to win us our one game in 14.. what a sickening way to hear fellow ‘supporters’ talk.
36 stuart no9 // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:30 PM
AP ” we are not too far away from last season” anybody know what that means ? not being funny , but i dont get that remark!
37 BennygivesmeTinglyBalls // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:41 PM
I’m not against Pardew but i think he lacks cojones. If he did our best starting line up would be:
———————-Krul
Debuchy—-Taylor–Colo—Santon
—————-Anita—-Bigi
Obertan——–Cabaye—–Marveaux
——————-Cisse
Anyone who wants guti to play is seriously deluded, awful winger. We might as well play with 10. If Shola starts, then Pardew has really bottled it. Lets sign, Sissoko, Mwbia and a pacy winger/striker. And with everyone back from injuries we can still get top 10. We just need a couple of back to back wins and we will rocket up the table. Easy…
