Newcastle A Fantastic Club – I Love It Here – Pardew

10:45 am, Friday, January 18th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 240 Comments

It seems that Alan Pardew took a little time off this week to go on a coaching course, and it seems to have done him a lot of good, as he realizes just what a fantastic club Newcastle United are – even if we have our ups and downs every season – and they are usually downs – if we are honest. :D

alan pardew in red

Alan Pardew – loves it at Newcastle

This is what Alan said in the local press today, and he says he still loves life on Tyneside:

“I went on a league coaching course this week and came away knowing how lucky I am.” “To be manager in front of 52,000 fans is great. It is a fantastic club – I love it here.”

“There is nobody more determined than me to turn this situation around. Hopefully I can do it with my captain.” “No season can be written off. Every season is very important because it builds momentum and confidence.”

“Everton are an example of a team like that. We are where they were last year.” “They had a great second half to the season last year and look where they are this season. They have been injury-free and on a nice run.”

“They have had close games, like the one against us recently when they edged it 2-1. We were winning those close games last year.”

Newcastle fans may be getting just a little concerned with the current situation at the club, with less than two weeks left in this transfer window, and at the very least we need a striker and a center-half brought into the club – and there’s still the Coloccini affair to be sorted out on Monday – and that’s a really bizarre situation for any club to have to handle half way through the season.

Unfortunately it had to be Newcastle.

Some would say - of course.

    SSN Latest:
Newcastle may have missed out on Loic Remy, but France Football are reporting that the Magpies are very keen to sign St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while L’Equipe claim that the Magpies have held initial talks with Bastia over full-back Florian Thauvin.

  • 5 AusMagpie // Jan 18, 2013 at 10:50 AM

Why is it that the board fails to see what the entire fan base sees?

  • 6 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 10:51 AM

TalkSport are saying that OM are wanting to replace Remy with Modibo Maiga of WestHam, hes got 4 goals in only 2 starts for the Hammers.

most people here give blame to pardew as well as Ashley.

The general consensus is that Ashley and co have underspent in the summer, didn’t improve the squad to the right level and left us woefully short of quality and experience outside of the first 11.

However most people also accept that pardew has made mistake as well and that he hasn’t got the best out of the players when he has had them available.

Nobody is saying it is easy for pardew but likewise it isn’t the impossible job he is making it out to be.

I back Pardew and will judge him over the full season, thats my stance. I do, however, call for the immediate dismissal of derek llambias.

  • 13 geordie157 // Jan 18, 2013 at 10:55 AM

quality cb and Sulejmani that will do for the Jan window.

As for the Nancy left back, if he’s good and available then get him in. Just because a CB and ST are the priority it doesnt mean you should not be looking to improve other areas of the team too. You can’t stand still in football, something i hope we have learned from the summer window!

lots of doom and gloom this week – However i strongly agree we will get a result tomorrow.

    3-1

    not pardews fault
    - not enough quality in the squad players
-injuries (except hba, just for you jesper haha)
-youngsters not having come through as expected

    pardews fault
-repetitive set pieces, which do not even work
-not finding a solution to playing ba and cisse in the same team
    -bizarre substitutions in games

Then there are things open for more debate like motivation of players, caving into Ba, formation, players out of position too often, no real style.shape to the team.

Florain Thauvin is not a full back

  • 19 Pardew You Dog You // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:01 AM

Just get Danny Graham in! Hes available on the cheap and can do a job in the Premier League. He loves Newcastle and would be more than up for the fight we need players like him. Players that care!

  • 20 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:02 AM

And in another line coming out of France, L’Equipe are reporting that Nancy left-back Massadio Haidara is still to reach an agreement with Newcastle over his possible move to St James’ Park, with the Magpies understood to have tabled an offer in excess of £2million for the 20-year-old.

Way to easy an excuse. You talk like it’s a new phenomena. We were rubbish before injuries because of the stupid reversion to 442 when 433 had been magnificent for us and cabs, benny and cisse.

Playing ba and cisse for so long in a 442 was never going to work. As for injuries, Marveaux has had to wait ages and only just now got a game and should have been played left of a front 3 with ba and cisse rotating in the middle.

No manager has to tell simmo, willo and krul to hoof it so that we have a worse long balls played record than stoke. It’s by choice not design.

No manager has to tell the players to sit on a 1-0 lead no matter how early in the game they take the lead.

No manager has to put Sammi on ahead of Marveaux. Etc , etc

No manager has to play Shola for 90 mins etc , etc

If we lose or only draw at home with krul, debuchy, colo, santon and saylor in our defense, that would be unforgiveable.

  • 23 croftus5678 // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:05 AM

@17 agree but the ba/cisse was not as bad as we fans are making it out to be ! look how many goals they scored together in how many games and list the striking partnerships that did better then them.
most fans was only crying because cisse was not scoring as many as last year and in fairness he was never going to.

  • 24 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:05 AM

Rotonda…You were asking about the Ibiza cup yesterday, did you see my response?

  • 25 geordie157 // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:07 AM

Yes of course, sacking Pardew is the answer, why didnt i think of that! Sack him now, get new manager in who joins after the window closes and gets us relegated.

All we need are a few signings and a few players back from injury ie Saylor and Ben Arfa.

And yes Pardew isnt the best manager, but get behind him and the team. Aside from Moyes i dont think anyone could have done much better with the small squad, numerous injuries, players out of form etc. We need to get to summer, stay in the premier league and improve the quality and depth of the squad. Ship out big earners that are in decline like Jonas and fringe players like Gosling and Ranger.

If all we sign in this window is Debuchy and a centre back, even that will make a huge difference. Shore up the defence but also add quality going forward as Simpson gets all confused when he crosses the half way line.

  • 26 Transfer Sage // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:08 AM

    croftus

The problem with Ba and cisse as a pair is that to get the best out of one the other was sacrificed

it happened to ba last year then cisse this year.

They couldn’t play together and both get goals. The team looked good with Ba left but terrible when cisse was to the right.

I think it had to be one or the other really, especially if Ba wouldn’t play left.

  • 27 Pardews Parsnip Bonce // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:08 AM

ok first time our squad is nearly fall strength with the right formation and without ba causing bother. lets bloody win

Agreed, the team shd be able to beat Reading.

  • 29 Markaccus // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:11 AM

Rotonda… That’s one fault I can accept… And it was down to him being to soft on ba and cisse. He should have stuck to 443 with ba wide. He funked off anyway so it didn’t placate him. Definite mistake there by pards. But people saying better managers would cope better with injuries, I disagree. Wenger and mancini’s teams both lost form during injury prone times, and their squads are much better than ours. Just saying.

  • 32 Munster Mag // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:16 AM

Transfer Sage, morning mate. It was Pardew’s fault that he thought Ba and Cisse would work – they didnt , and havent for Senegal. When he signed them he said Ba would pkay short, with Cisse the striker furthest up the pitch. Poor research by him and the over vaunted Carr.

  • 33 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:16 AM

  • 39 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:23 AM

    @35

    He will definitely start Shola.

I just don’t get what it is with Shola, he’s been at the club through a hole heap of managers, but every single one of them has seen something in him and given him a place in the squad, why do we not see anything in him on the pitch?

What’s the weather like in Newcastle ? Does anyone think the match will be called off ?

  • 42 croftus5678 // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:28 AM

    @26

nope your right we did not look as good but they still had a great scoring record with them both in the team both last season and this (before ba left) not matter what happens i could not blame our strike force this season as we went though a fair few games (cabaye out and marv not 100% fit) with no creativity and our defence has been far more than poor imo.

now if cisse does not score as many as ba did there is no excuse for fans who was calling for ba out to blame pardew.

and our position in the prem means it will put a hell of a lot of players off coming to us so i do not think we can go for the worlds best players here i think the club have signed players with better quality than what we should be getting so i will not moan if they sign ngog who “could” be a great player instead of a rooney.

pards aint done bad neither has ashley if players dont wanna come to us what can we do ?
we only have so much time and its not a case of “do you wanna come for £x yes or no?” it doesnt work like that so unfortunatly every player we go after takes time and if the player i.e. “remy” messes around it means 2 weeks are down the drain.

  • 43 Shot Bru // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:28 AM

Cheik the toastie…..I agree with you, I have a shocking feeling Pardew will start with Ameobi, assuming the game is on tomorrow.

Another thing, i reckon we won’t sign a CB. The plan will be to get Colo to play till the end of the season, pray Saylor comes back and stays fit, buy haidara cheaply for LB and use Santon and Williamson as cover for CB.

Ashley will wait till the summer to pick up potential free transfers in Douglas and whoever else they have scouted.

Hehe. PEA is a beast on Fifa apparently even though 79 rating. Lovin’ the review and more mouthwatering than that is if we could get the real life version (as well as being in my Fifa team of course ;-) . Although his club are in the cup final aren’t they, so it would be very tough to get him now.

Danny Graham could be a goog signing. Cheap, local lad and his work rate is great. He has scored some good goals in the PL too. Danny Graham > Shola anyday. Shola can’t play 90 min, too lazy. For me Shola is decent to put on the last 20 minutes and should never ever start a game in the PL again.

Good morning to you as well sir.

I think that was poor by pardew regarding Ba and Cisse.

I don’t blame Carr for that though, he did nothing wrong, he brought us a very good striker. All clubs have players which cannot link up but are used at different times. It’s up to pardew which striker comes in, he did say carr gives him a list and he decided, then dekka does the deal.

I just think there are a lot of problems going on now.

Hopefully 3 points tomorrow and a few players coming in will lift spirits and make things easier on Pardew and the team.

  • 56 oo aa demba ba // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:37 AM

Pardew is definitely at fault for the shocking football we have played for the majority of the season. Defensive 442 against teams like Swansea, West Ham etc have cost us. With the attacking players we had in Ba, Cabaye, Ben Arfa we should have been looking to make them have to defend us.

Now the main problem is our defence, against Norwich (basically a championship/league 1 assembled side) we were showing little attacking threat and they were managing to counter a fair few times with more attacking options than we had defenders, if that game was against a team with a bit more quality we could have been turned over.

I’d definitely take Danny Graham, good strong goal scorer who wouldn’t cost a lot, definitely a good option when you consider our only two senior strikers are cisse and shola. My only worry would be that we would offer him pennies to try and take advantage of him supporting the club

  • 62 Transfer Sage // Jan 18, 2013 at 11:44 AM

If Danny Graham is brought in alongside a pacey striker or a winger then it’s good…if he is the only forward player we get I don’t think its enough and doesn’t cover the left side forward role we need.

Graham got 12 goals last year, played in a swansea team that was all about possession so can keep the ball and play that style, he is only out the team this year as michu is bang in form…even still he has 4 in his last 5 off the bench.

He would be a very good squad player a probably willing to play 2nd fiddle as he is a toon fan.

Get him in as he will get us goals.

Then go and sign a gourffan as well…a forward come winger…perfect front 2 we could do with this window.

Get cissoko and then mirin in to.

Cissoko is available for 3-3.5mil according to his chairman, gourffan is in last 6 months of contract so cheap, graham is for 5mil apparently and then mirin would be 5mil.

Not a huge outlay to get some good strength and depth in the squad.

Then look for the bigger signings like PEA, alderweireld or yanga mbiwa in the summer

Can’t understand bloggers complaining about Danny Graham, he is a proven goalscorer, something we need right now and he’s a geordie, if there is one thing which football lacks right now its soul, big football teams hardly convery any local pride at the moment when their teams are filled with overseas players just looking for big wages and step up to the super club, no loyality. redknapp probablydislikes newcastle because last year we showed him up. he always goes on about what he did in such a short time at spurs then we blew his bragging out of the water with our brilliant season. he’ll be happy now.
also how come redknapp couldn’t be punished for publicly revealing ba’s clause? you can’t talk about other clubs’ players’ details right? especially publicly

Newcastle are keeping their manager after not really spending / recruiting enough in the summer

The question is who will do better for the rest of the season?

Nice piece on NUFC.COM gotta say, realistic and exactly how i see it, Pardew has gotten off lightly, not off me but by most of the folk who sit around me for sure, i really dont understand how some folk can sit and watch some of the shite served up and still remain so positive/blinkered and so optimistic about how Pardew is going to turn this around.

I want an Arsenal away first 75 minutes performance tomorrow, personally would play young Bigi as he hunts the ball down and presses high up the pitch, unlike Jonas who just stands on Santons toes.

    Krul

    Anita Bigi

harry has decided not to bother with him…said he was good value and as such could not justify spending such a small amount of money….if his club will accept 9mil he will make a bid

  • 182 fray bentos // Jan 18, 2013 at 12:50 PM

    @ibiza

I go over to Madrid and Barca to visit him all the time, he’s constantly trying to teach me spanish phrases and funnily enough thats one of the only i remember so i end up saying it all time even when its not needed ha

  • 183 shearermania // Jan 18, 2013 at 12:51 PM

difference between me and the poisoned dwarf is i actually care about my beloved club..i got the logo tattooed on my arm, i named my oldest son Alan (my wife wouldnt agree to name my daughter for albert – silly woman) i got two dogs named beardo and batty…..i care for my club…and yes i might not be right but i still got hope and i still back our manager……he might not be the best but i can feel he really means well and wants the best for this club….man he took us to fifth (yes with a bit of luck) but our squad was sh!t last year and still managed it – you dont become a looser overnight…..keep the faith…
im not itk by any means but a bit of loyal support and a half full glass goes a long way..

  • 186 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 18, 2013 at 12:54 PM

Fray….I find if you mumble your words but loudly and then grunt occasionally you can get by quite easily.

In fact Spanish grunting is the first thing I teach visiting friends. At first they laugh, but by the time they leave they see exactly what I mean. Plenty of “eeeehhh tío” – what more do you need? Oh yeah, cerveza. Sorted.

  • 187 roblee7 // Jan 18, 2013 at 12:54 PM

checkthetoastie – yes, i have to say i agreed with pretty much everything i said. you have to remember also that he wasn’t wanted here in the first place so yes, he has most definitely got away lightly. at the games there has been no ‘Pardew Out’ signs or anything like that…just wonder how long it will be. A win tomorrow would give him some time mind…a defeat and he will be sacked, i would be amazed if he wasn’t. but, where would that leave us with regards to signings in this window?

  • 188 roblee7 // Jan 18, 2013 at 12:55 PM

  • 190 Rake // Jan 18, 2013 at 12:57 PM

    @ Check

I like your team but Santon is often caught out of position after an attack and Jonas usually covers him. Marv certainly wouldn’t do that and we all know Pardew will want to keep it tight at the back.

  • 191 Transfer Sage // Jan 18, 2013 at 12:58 PM

    roblee

If he was to go the club could still bring in new players anyway, Carr has some good players scouted.

It’s no different to taking over and having players already there, they would just be coming in at the same time as the new manager.

I just want Pards to turn this around, seems genuine if nothing else.

Fray…You’ve been reading the English idiots guide to Spanish as well? I mean the English idiotos guido to Espanyolo…. :)

My worst one is using “para” as a filler word for everything. It means for, but gets used by me as if, from, when, etc etc.

I’ll get the hang of it one day…probably the same time Newcastle wins a trophy.

also, since 08/09 season with totals from incomings and outgoings, i make it that we should be around £38,000,000 in profit, that is since MA bought the club. However, if he see’s this as being owed to him for previous debt, we may never see most of this profit. HOWEVER, these figures do not make reference to the huge difference in salaries being paid now to say 5 or 6 years ago, so we should have plenty dosh

  • 211 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 18, 2013 at 1:20 PM

Rob….Another factor to consider is that £24m “profit” on transfers was made when we were relegated. I would imagine some of that went towards the cost of relegation, but no idea how much.

  • 212 bzak12 // Jan 18, 2013 at 1:20 PM

OMG Nine o’clock this morning checked the odds on Pardue to be next manager to go stuck a fiver on. 12 oclock heard on radio premier manager had been sacked get in I thought until I checked sky sports. How the hell can Pardue keep his job when Atkins gets the sack with his record. As much as I think he is arrogant he is doing a great job at Soton would take him over Percy anyday.

Rob…It certainly doesn’t consider any other costings, so hard to judge with any certainty, but it’d be safe to assume that as we’ve only just reached the point of breaking even that when we were relegated it cost the club some money and that players sales would have covered a part of that.

  • 230 ToonDownSouth // Jan 18, 2013 at 1:47 PM

anyone else a bit bored of the constant french links? I mean, how many countries are there in the world? And the french league is hardly the best, id say quite a way off premier league, german league, spanish league, italian league, id say the portuguese and dutch leagues are the most similar standard wise. i mean, if we’re after bargains, would the Greek league not be a good place to scout, due to the terrible financial state of their country?

Adkins had 2 back to back promotions, came in to the premiership with arguably one of the weakest squads, stood his corner and still played football and was starting to acclimatise, culminating in coming back from 2-0 down at chelsea.

No he wouldn’t be top of my list, but we are talking the realms of attainable managers who could possibly do a better job.

Having said that, with :- Krul, Debuchy, Colo, Saylor, Santon, Anita, Cabaye, Marveaux, Cisse, we only have to replace Shola with PEA and Jonas with Benny and even Pardew couldn’t screw that up!
