Newcastle Close To Second Signing Of Transfer Window

2:06 pm, Friday, January 18th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 56 Comments

There are several reports in France today, that are saying that Newcastle have won the race for Nancy defender Massadio Haidara, and that they have beaten out Tottenham Hotspur (good), who were also said to be  interested in the 20 year-old.

Massadio Haidara

Massadio Haidara – next Newcastle signing?

The fee seems consistent with what has been reported in previous reports, and Newcastle will pay out either £2M or £2.5M for the French U21 International left-back, who is said to be one of the best young players in France at the moment.

The fee varies sometimes in reports between the 2M and 2.5M figures, so perhaps it’s €2.5M, which is around £2M.

Le10Sport had reported last week that as many as five Premier League clubs had expressed an interest in the youngster, with Aston Villa thought to be another of those clubs interested.

Nancy Vice President Jacques Rousselot, has said the player is now keen to try his luck in England, and things should be finalized soon:

“The player with the highest market value is Massadio Haïdara. It’s been two years that he has played in Ligue 1. He really likes the English market. Today we are in contact with five English clubs at the first part of the negotiations. We think it should be finalized soon”.

Of course we have no idea if these reports are true, and that it is Newcastle who have won the race, especially after what happened last Monday with Loic Remy.

But if Newcastle can get a player through the door in the next couple of days, it will certainly help the situation at the club, although our main requirements are still a striker and a center-back.

Maybe we can get them next week?

Comments welcome.

    why are we buying kids

we need players than have experience to dig us out,, more kids looking for more guidence with no one leading us AT ALL

these guys are taking the piss,,

    IBIZA

if shola and jonas are in the team i dont hold out much hope

reading tails are high after beating west brom, and by the way they did it too :(

i will not be watching it,, the football is too poor right now, and im not in the mood,, slowly losing the will to live

sad days ahead,, 8 more years of this shit

  • 4 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:11 PM

hmm, I think Im gonna wait till its confirmed.

There was a deal that was all but over the line recently, cant think of the player involved, but he fecked off elsewhere.

    & being first

I will wait till he’s signed on the dotted line!

  • 7 Spreadthetoon // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:12 PM

Good news if true but we need a ST and a CB and AM/DM.
News that OM are closing in on Sissoko – in view that OM did were partly responsible for Remy fiasco and the fact that Sissoko is a fantastic player, and we can compete with wages against OM, I would like us to sign this player (a) cos’ we need him – great distributor of the ball and will enable Cabaye to play in his preferred advanced role (b) just to wipe the smug smile of OMs face!

…argh maybe ‘Arry will hijack this one as well!

  • 9 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:12 PM

I do hope we get this guy as he is going to be some Talent

Might be that they think Santon is not that great in defense and would prefer to move him upfield in a Gareth Bale role
Always feel he is a bit wasted as a right footed Left Back would be better with someone who can whip a ball in 1st time with their left foot

Or it could be he is Santon’s replacement dear god i hate being a Toon fan at the moment got me so cynical

  • 10 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:13 PM

    @ 5

We need cover in other positions before we think about Sissoko.

  • 17 Hatem's better than Messi // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Better news … if it is to replace Santon then we’ll have got a good price for him.

This is what we have to do if we want to increase our squad’s depth. Ashley isn’t funding the squad properly to keep it intact.

  • 18 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:19 PM

    @11

SSN reporting Norwich have had an offer rejected for him, bloody Canaries, they are after Graham too.

  • 19 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:19 PM

    @Toon Mauritius

Yes Hooper will be great in the premier league playing with the right team eg one that plays the ball on the deck as Celtic do

I am from Scotland and he was actually better than Jelavic who is great for Everton

His movement is great and he can beat players and scores all types of goals

I dont think we will get him though as Celtic want silly money and in the papers in Scotland everyone connected with Celtic has a mindset that someone like Newcastle would be a serious step down

They have a bit of hate for the Toon after Pardew’s comments about Fraser Foster last season

  • 20 NUFCWill1986 // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:19 PM

This fits nicely with the Santon rumours

  • 21 archaeomag // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:20 PM

@Catchy – low wages for kids – thats why ++sell on value

  • 22 richyg01 // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:20 PM

    @ 15

That fits with the business model that like.
Get this lad in for a couple of Mil and sell Santon on, was a rumour earlier we had told Roma we want £15M for him.

  • 23 Munster Mag // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:22 PM

I wouldnt care if we replaced Santon provided we made a profit on Santon. He’s neither a good full back ( on left anyway ) , nor a good left midfielder. he does have energy and technique and ok pace , but it doesnt add up into a good player. Do you remember how confident you were when Enrique had a winger running at him? Afterburners on, big bum ran across the winger, shepherded out. Great stuff. As I have said before Fat Sam bought some good players.

  • 24 Dannyo // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:24 PM

There is a rumour that NUFC are in clear leaders on Haidara. Time will tell if it’s true though.

  • 25 south coast toon // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:25 PM

just get sissoko in he would make a difference and it would help attract more players we were meant to be bringing in 4 or 5,surely we can make some silly offers to get in real quality cbs, bloody hell if salor breaks down and collo supended or injured we in trouble, cant he just dig in them pockets its so frustrating for us, we get told theres 4 or coming in and if 1 gos there be 2 in.its like walking into a bar with drinks half price only to be told that was last night .if we want anyone to come here of quality we gunna have to pay big transtere fee to blow others out the water god there must be 100 cbs we could go for.arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

  • 26 ToonMauritius // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:25 PM

    santonthenewmaldini
    thanks amigo

he is the perfect replacement for BA could cost about $10M

  • 27 Transfer Sage // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:26 PM

    munster

Enrique is an amazing full back, wish he had stayed one more year, might have convinced him to sign long term.

  • 28 Munster Mag // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:26 PM

Santon and Bale in the same sentence is bonkers. Mind you, Pardew’s defensive mindset might mean that he would like to se a defensive player covering the wing, a la Spiderman.

  • 29 Scouse_geordie // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:28 PM

Catchy_ no offence mate but surely that’s exactly the time the team needs your support, when things are going bad

  • 30 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:29 PM

    @Toon Mauritius

He is actually really good at linking up the play as well him and Cisse would do well he could probably play wide forward sort of a similar player Shane Long in that he is not selfish he will run the channels all day

Just hope we sign someone soon though cause if Cisse gets injured or does not return to form we could be in deep trouble

  • 31 Party Tyne // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Seems like a good player, much needed competition for Santon who has been poor of late, I think his form (like many other in the side recently) has been down to the team being so unorganized.

  • 32 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:29 PM

We won’t get him over the line. We still have a couple more months to go before the second signing…

  • 33 jimmyxavi // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:29 PM

    ATTENTION..

The N’gog rumour was started by a lad who openeded a new account, posted 5 tweets about us being interested in N’gog and then after 2 days and with only 3 followers posted that he made it up to see how far the itk rumor could spread – He was doing it for his research for an assignment at University, oh and he was a mackem. He then closed the account!

This proves how gullible our fans are and how the national press operates!

Can we please stop discussing Ngog from now on!

  • 34 Rotonda heights // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:31 PM

don’t think we should claim to be close to anything !!

  • 35 Indian Magpie (HD_07 on Twitter) // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:31 PM

    Jimmy Xavi

why did journos pick up on those then

  • 36 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:31 PM

    @Munster Mag

Dont get me wrong he is nowhere near as good as Bale but the way he glides past players with ease is similar

Think if we moved him further infield where he maybe only had a centre back to skin he would be very effective rather than having to beat 3 players because Jonas is useless

Count your lucky stars though at least Simpson is not playing against Reading!!!!

  • 37 Munster Mag // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:33 PM

TS, Enrique must be laughing at US now .

  • 38 hotdog // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:33 PM

jimmyxavi – Is Ed doing an assignment :-)

  • 39 Transfer Sage // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:34 PM

    munster

Santon does the attacking job of a fullbakc well, most full back dont get many assists or goals, its more they overlap and help create space for the winger.

Santon does this but when he does our winger tends to go defensive, was ok when Ba was on the left though, made more room.

The problem with santon is he is a very average defender, which is odd as he was very solid at inter.

  • 40 WWYCD // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:34 PM

Best way to get players to play to their full capabilities is to introduce competition at the moment Santon knows regardless of what he does he is starting the next match much the same across our starting 11 at the moment

Plus from what I have read on this lad he could be the real deal in a few years utter bargain IF we get him for the prices quoted

Still need 3+ players on top of him though

  • 41 Jail for Ashley // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:35 PM

    Lads,
I think everybody who has followed this blog for awhile knows how much NUFC and this blog means to me, I do not use any other blogs and certainly dont post under different names but I think I have lost the will to post anymore as I feel I have nothing of value to give to this blog, I am not saying goodbye but simply farewell, goodluck this season.
    HTWL.

    Respect Jail.

  • 43 proudtobageordie // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:39 PM

Don’t think davide is going anywhere tbh. We have heard pards stating there is no back up for him And he needs a rest from time to time. He will be a good addition if he does arrive.

  • 44 Crow59 // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:42 PM

hmmm interesting, still dont see santon leaving even if we sign a new left back as his geordie lass is cooking an italian muffin. Really hope this means he’ll either push forward because lets face it gutis now a squad player at best or this lad can play centre half.
    Ideal signings -
    LW – N’Zogbia / Sinclair (loan)
    DM – Diame / Sissoko
    CF – PEA / AC
    CB – Alderwierald / Bassong

Strange that i have mentioned 3 explayers in my signings list and each left the club in rather strange/contraversial ways but all struggling at there current clubs and would be a huge improvement on what we currently have.

  • 46 mr.guilfoyle@hotmail.co.uk // Jan 18, 2013 at 2:51 PM

we will sign him. he will be a good accquisition. and his purchase will mean that pardew has told no lies. every window is the same. pardew says i need this that and the other, he gets what he is given. he knew this when he took the job, he should spend more time coaching, when he speaks he is full of shit, he really ought to fucking coach his fucking players. haidarra, welcome to newcastle

  • 47 barry_ben_arfa // Jan 18, 2013 at 4:14 PM

I would like to see Danny Graham in as back-up. He got 11 premiership goals last season and he was often used as a substitute. If you put him in a long ball team like ours he’d get even more.
Also would like to see him re-united with Scott Sinclair, could get him for about 5-6m

  • 48 GFH // Jan 18, 2013 at 5:27 PM

I have just completed the BBC prem League predictor up to the end of the season and was relieved to find us midtable but just ABOVE the mackems . ( Did someone say Clutching at straws ? ) The relegated teams were Southampton, Reading and Villa. We need to start that process this weekend with a 2-1 win over Reading.
Well it makes a change from pipe-dreaming over transfers, and at least the outcome cheered me up .

Any signing is a good signing and in two years time this kid could be the new Abidal, so for f#cks sake whinge at something that needs whinging at, i.e Pardews inability to look past long ball football.

  • 53 Jinky Jim // Jan 18, 2013 at 8:09 PM

This blog has become like what comes out of Pardews mouth.
    Absolute Shite !!!! HWTL,s

  • 54 DxK // Jan 18, 2013 at 9:42 PM

Our prayers have been answered if he comes in, two full backs added to the squad in the window, hopefully we’ll get a goalkeeper next, Butland for £4m maybe..

Seriously, Debuchy is totally understandable, but although this kid might be a bright prospect it doesn’t really help us in the short term.

I feel like there’s going to be a scramble on deadline day, a failed offer for a centre half (Tomkins) and the £4.5m deal that see David N’gog join the club.

Obviously we’re also signing Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Steven Taylor and Tiote soon, as well as Ryan Taylor in the summer according to Pardew, so Ashley’s backing the manager.

So far a desperate window, I really hope the club proves me wrong and snaps up some top notchers whilst keeping the purples at the club.

  • 55 nufcburty // Jan 19, 2013 at 7:12 AM

Got a VERY strong feeling Santon may soon be playing higher up the field, not sure when exactly, but apparently john carver has announced it (good source)
