Pardew – Newcastle The Most Aggressive Club I’ve Worked For

10:51 am, Saturday, January 19th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 106 Comments

There are lots of quotes from Alan Pardew today about the transfer market, and obviously most of the comments are aimed at trying to convince Newcastle fans the club did all they could to get Loic  Remy to Newcastle  but at the end of the day we failed to do that – for whatever reason - and “almost”  just doesn’t count.

alan pardew 321

Alan Pardew – Newcastle are very aggressive in transfer market

But one of the quotes from Alan that got our attention today, is when he talks about the people that do the transfer  negotiating for Newcastle - principally Managing Director Derek LLambias and Secretary Lee Charnley, with some help from Mike Ashley at times.

Alan says they are the most aggressive negotiators he’s ever worked for.

This is what Alan said in the local press today, talking initially  about the Newcastle fans:

“They have had enough false promises from managers here in the past – even from myself with the Andy Carroll situation.”  “I’m not going to fall into that trap again.”  “All I will say is that since I have been at the club – which is all I can talk about, my history here – we are the most aggressive I’ve ever seen us in terms of the people who do the negotiations.”

“Mike, Derek and Lee Charnley have been aggressive in the market.”  “They know that I’m weak and they want to strengthen my hand.”  “I thank them for that. Hopefully they get the players in.”

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, so we still have 12 days left to see what Newcastle can achieve in the transfer window this month.

But at the end of the day – the results are all that matters,  and if they are not achieved – it doesn’t really matter f you worked around the clock or were unlucky – or this or that happened.

It may make you feel a bit better, but the truth is if you don’t get the players in, you have failed.

That’s the bottom line.

We’re hoping Newcastle will not fail.

#MBiwa Update: We understand that the bid #Newcastle made for the #Montpellier man yesterday was between €7-8m. #NUFC

Someone said yesterday that this was a good name to follow on twitter. So I did and they claim that le10sport is NOT their source!

  • 3 Dannyo // Jan 19, 2013 at 10:57 AM

He’s not saying what you’re portraying in your headline Ed.
He’s saying they are more aggressive now than they’ve ever been since he was appointed.

I have to add, there’s been a lot of misguiding headlines here as of recent. I know it’s your blog and you do what you want with it, but staying within what is actually said would be an improvement as things are.

I’ve been waiting for Mancini to come into my store in Manchester all week to ask him if we can borrow Guidetti for a bit, I reckon I’ll be a better negotiator than Llambias!,,,,

    Dannyo

I think you should show Ed more respect you cheeky git. He works tirelessly around the clock to bring us all the latest news on Our great club and you have a dig over minute details.

Id like to see you try doing it. Having had my own blog in the past I know how much hard work it is, it takes up a hell of a lot of time and effort.

    Get a grip!!

  • 11 stuart no9 // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:13 AM

ok we lost remy! is that it? no other options? no plan b- 1 player identified to get us goals that we need to stay up- he goes to QPR and thats it ? f???ing pathetic. players should have been identified months ago ,ready to step straight into the team. 2 weeks it is feb, very little time to get points on the board to stay up. its not just our luck that has to change, the football has to as well.

  • 15 numba9 // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:19 AM

i would say it is why he employes a muppet and gives him a long term deal, because he will ask no questions and take the flack for jabba, hence why chris hughton went, he felt had had earned the right to be backed more and rightly so, but ashley went searching for a new muppet. we wont have a proper manager under this man, because he cannot cope with one, he is weak and a coward!

    Useless Prick.

  • 17 Dannyo // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:21 AM

    @nickfish90
In my comment i showed Ed the outmost respect in the way i said it. I didn’t even call him a cheeky git like a certain someone did in their response.
I don’t run a blog cause i don’t have the time to do so. But as I said, there’s been a few misleading headlines, especially in this window.
I’ve been commenting on this blog for the best part of 3 years, and Ed has my sincerest thanks for all the effort he puts in, especially given what he’s gone through.

That doesn’t excuse though, IMO, the way the headlines are put up and in no way portrays what is said in the article. Mistakes happen, but they’ve been reoccurring a few times as of late. That is my right to voice, and i’m not being cheeky whatsoever.

magic …fat sam charged by fa for suggesting that manure get preferential treatment by ref,s …or could it be manure get preferential treatment by fa…??

  • 19 Bambams // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:24 AM

Pards must get sick of being the one in the middle here, i wonder if ashley would ever consider doing a ‘Lance ARMSTRONG’ and just come out and tell us how it is.

We read Pards coming out with ‘we are after big names but only at the right price’ – you dont get the big names at the RIGHT price they are always inflated prices, just like we did with Carroll……. Ashley still has a grudge against us, that i am certain of. Only question is how big a grudge ?

This window is slowly coming to an end, still plenty of time but we need players in for the games after Reading. Wont tempt fate but injuries happen all the time…..

  • 20 roe997 // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:24 AM

    Aggressive = tight arse hagglers

  • 21 Toon_Tom // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:24 AM

Dannyo wasnt incorrect in his post nor was he cheeky.

Simply voicing his own personal opinion, which i actually agree with.

  • 22 nufc1984 // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:27 AM

Dannyo- so ur greatful to ed, u appreciate the illness he has gone through. But u still complain about a couple of “misleading headlines” to be fair they aren’t that far from the truth when u think of the that few clubs pards has been employed by. And if ed didn’t run this blog, then u wouldn’t have anywhere to voice your opinions and wouldn’t be able to show your disapproval at a few typos!! I imagine your the type that sees the bad stuff in most but rarely commends the good people do??

lay off him for f++Ks sake guys.

He has posted on here for years and was in no way having a pop at Ed.

We all love Ed but Dannyo was simply stating what HE felt.

Yesterday, BillSon had a pop at Ed, other people have this month in a more aggressive way than Danyo.

    lay off

  • 26 BelfastMagpie // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:30 AM

I think he’s trying to bring down the blog…. Haha

  • 27 Williamsonsuks // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:31 AM

Pards they know you are weak. That’s why they employed you. Their a pair of rats who haven’t got the brass to even show face, leave it all up to you to stutter and stumble through interviews. Pards aint getting any younger, and looking at his past with his alcohol and whatever else, heart attack might be on the cards, from being stuck in the firing line, when their ducking for cover.
Hallelujah! Ashleys gonna take more of a hands on approach! Jeesssuusss just when i thought it couldn’t get any worse.

  • 28 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:32 AM

    Dannyo
Not saying your wring a few have commented on it lately
But try looking at it in a different view
Ed is a toon fan, he is not a journalist
Try and a find i single poster on this blog, me and you included, who’s postings this month have been up and down to match the frustrations of the club atm
Not defending him, he doesn’t need it imo, but we’ve all over exagerated in our views lately

  • 29 nufc1984 // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:32 AM

Belfast- I appreciate people’s opinions, I’ve just read on the last few blogs people posting negative criticism for a guy who puts his all into this blog and then people have the cheek to slam him for a few mistakes. That’s my view!:-)

  • 30 Marty-Toon // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:33 AM

So Mbiwa is our answer to set pieces? Lol
1 goal in the French league in over 100 games ;-)
Not dissin him as he’s a decent defender if we ever get him but hopefully the English game would let him score goals, although it should be easier to get them in France

  • 31 Toon_Tom // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:33 AM

When AP said “weak” he meant the squad not himself!!

  • 32 stuart no9 // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:35 AM

bambams the grudge runs deep. borders hatred imo. if it wasnt for the fact tv revenue is huge in the prem, and the spin offs were so lucrative, he would ruin us- hes not making a bad job of that as it is , imagine if the financial gain was not so lucrative,- the mind boggles!

  • 33 BelfastMagpie // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:35 AM

It’s a conspiracy. Dannyo works for @nufcfans twatter account & they’re trying to get us all to join their new blog.
    Keep an eye on him…

  • 34 toon kk // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:36 AM

The transfer window should be a exciting time looking forward to great players coming in but its just the same old shit. Pardew isn’t the manager hes just fitting in with MA plans or he wouldn’t be working there. Some 5 year project Like k keegan sead Ash & Lam haven’t a clue. So how can they be working hard.

  • 35 BelfastMagpie // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:37 AM

I agree nufc1984 ed does a great job.

  • 36 GeordieToon89 // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:38 AM

Nufc1984 – Dannyo has been commenting on here for ages and i dont think i’ve seen a bad word or an insult towards anyone especially not Ed, So for you to come out and play the guilt card on him is a total disgrace.. Everyone knows about Ed and everything he’s been through and although people comment about his headlines that doesnt mean we dont respect him, we all are grateful to Ed for the way he has kept giving us articles to read and comment on during tough times for himself

  • 37 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:39 AM

    Marty toon
Couldnt give to sh1ts about his scoring to be honest atm the main priority is to stop leaking goals all over the place and as long as he does the buisness at the back i dont care what ge dies in an attacking sense
The need to have a big lump to score from set pieces is mad anyway surely it would of been easier to just be a bit more inventive with our set pieces?

  • 38 Bambams // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:39 AM

    @Stuart No9

I fella i totally agree, i was certain i would have been shot down by other bloggers as a ‘negger’ (as in negative) but pleased you see it as i do.

    Hope we are both wrong

  • 39 nickfish90 // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:40 AM

Fair response Dannyo, and the cheeky git was tongue in cheek. Adjust think people having a pop at Ed should stop for a second and think if how much time he puts into this blog for us fans.

Constructive criticism is all well and good but if you are going to pick up on something as small as that then ID have to ask on the other end of the scale where your praise is when Ed bands out 10 articles in a day for example.

If you’re going to criticise someone when they do something you don’t like, then you should praise them when they do something you do like. A bit like a manager I guess.

    No hard feelings mate.

    I – as in ‘AYE’ ….

  • 41 two steps forward one step back // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:41 AM

Aggressive negotiation does not equate to good negotiation.
Negotiation requires compromise, positive reinforcement, relationship building and confidence, not getting f….d over by the guy you’re dealing with.
The reason they are failing is BECAUSE they are aggressive.

Remy got to play computer games with the MD we have got Robin and Charmless. Nuff said

His whole demeanour is so negative and dull.

  • 45 two steps forward one step back // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:44 AM

The other problem about this blog just now is that some guys are getting into “shoot the messenger” mode.

It applies to Pardew who is the public face of Batman and Robin and Ed who reports what is a very fluid situation.

  • 46 nufc1984 // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:44 AM

Gt89- I’m not singling him out. I’m saying I’ve read a few who seem to think this is cutting edge journalism! It’s not. It’s one guy who is sharing his love of toon with us. No need to jump on the poor guy when he gets an article slightly wrong. That’s my opinion. It’s no problem if u disagree. I wouldn’t say I played the guilt card, more trying to air on the side of common sense when commenting!!

  • 48 Williamsonsuks // Jan 19, 2013 at 11:46 AM

    @Toon-tom… It works both ways.
The whole of Europe can tell we have a weak squad, well really thin, quite strong team when they are all fit, but no back up.
I’ve stood by Pards all season but am getting fed up with his defence of the board. Surely he knows there is a divide between the board and the fans, yet he takes their side in every situation, when he knows their full of it.
Yeah it’s a job, he needs his wages, wish he’d just stop the brown nosing. Its public suicide

  • 60 Puppet Pardew // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:05 PM

“This club has already been relegated not so long ago,” said Puppet Pardew. “To be fair to Mike, he was in a position where he could keep the team together. If you keep the team, you go back up.” Press Statement 19/1/2013

Now before you wag your fingers at me, fans, I realise that several players did in fact leave in 2010. And yes, several teams who did keep the team together still struggled in the Championship. And maybe that Chris Hughton geezer did have a small amount of input – but nothing I’ll not be able to do if we do slip up.

Look, I’m just preparing for the worst today – and stating with due modesty that whatever Chrissy did, I can do better. I’ll get the team straight back, I can promise you all. And even if we don’t beat Reading today, it’s not like it’s the end of the world, is it? Better to be top of the chumps than bottom of the prem, I say.

Anyway, must go now, five minutes weekly pre-match tactics talk…

In order to generate income he has to bang out articles in quick succession for the advertising revenue. When working in haste, there are bound to be typos or the occasional misleading header, but remember that transfer windows are Ed’s opportunity to make most money because of the shear volume of transfer gossip.

Tbf re: Dannyo he has been commenting on the blog for years and always contributes, is insightful, constructive and sometimes gives little bits of intel.
Love Ed’s blog and the amount of articles he publishes is great. Dannyo was just pointing out a misinterpretation thats all.

  • 69 Kekasa // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:19 PM

Some posters seem to be grasping the wrong end of the stick here. Pardew is not “brown-nosing” or being a puppet here. Saying that this club is aggressive is not meant by Pardew as a positive. What he’s doing is complaining that the powers that be (not him) are far too aggressive, and, as a result, losing out on deals and jeopardising the club’s future. Pardew is rightfully worried about the board, to the extent that he’s complaining publicly.

yes – it can be seen in 2ways, but he only meant it in one of those ways. He was complimenting the staff for being “aggressive” not complaining they are too aggressive

For the love of Christ will you shut the hell up pardew , stop defending laurel and hardy , aggressive in negotiations my a*#e , another instance of your lips moving when fatboys hand is up you backside

  • 82 Kekasa // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:36 PM

You may be right, but I beg to differ. Aggressive negotiation, i.e., hardball negotiation, can often result in losing the deal. Had Lambias been less “aggressive” re Remy and others, we might have got those deals done. On the other hand, I like the fact that NUFC is careful with its cash. We don’t want to be seen as a walkover either.

  • 83 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:38 PM

If we bring in Mbiwa and Gouffran before the end of the window in addition to Debuchy, This would have to be considered one of the better Transfer windows in recent years. especially if we keep Colo.

However… there is more chance that pigs will sprout wings and begin flying then Newcastle bringing in a second signing this window

Ed – let it go man, if qpr wanted to pay silly money there’s nothing we can do about that, did you want us to pay silly money? He’s not exactly been prolific or even really moved off the bench. If qpr hadn’t got stupid he would have been here

  • 86 askar // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:52 PM

I was over the moon about Rémy signing because Rémy = 10000000000*(Ba+Cisse*Shola*Nil)…. But now I’m a bit stressed thinking about our transfert strategy!
and maybe Colo and HBA Will go if no one comes right now! F****!!!
    I am sade…

    So what’s happening folks?

See Ed’s in trouble again :) Does anybody actually write to him via email? From my time on here, I’ve only ever seen him join in the comments a couple of times, therefore writing to him directly may be more beneficial and wont start a comments section war…just a thought.

On to Pardew….Am I to assume people are unhappy with his comments in this article? What’s a man to say? He obviously believes they’re trying to buy players, but this stage is out of his hands. If anyone thinks Ashley isn’t at least slightly worried at the idea of going down I think they’re mistaken. What he does about it though is anyones guess.

    Any team news yet?

  • 88 two steps forward one step back // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:57 PM

Pards is also quoted in a previous article that being too aggressive won’t bring players in so youse’ll all have to read it the way you want.

  • 89 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:58 PM

Askar…Are you saying Remy is better than all those players combined? Really?

  • 90 Marzy // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:59 PM

Watching football focus & watched Garth Crooks take the Michael out of the signing of Remy in a interview with Harry Chops….! ££££££££££££££££.
    Brilliant watching Harry justify it!.

  • 91 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:59 PM

    Danny Simpson ?@dannysimpson

Any of the Toon fans who dont have tickets 2 the Reading game today want some so they can support the boys??

Even Simpson doesn’t want to watch us play :)

  • 92 Nufc-83 // Jan 19, 2013 at 12:59 PM

Good few bottom of the table games today so teams will be moving up. Lose today and relegation is a cert for me

  • 93 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:02 PM

Nufc-83…Some important games today. Whilst it would be a nightmare to lose, it’s not an absolute decider as to who goes down.

The one game I’m struggling to chose which way I want it to go is the Wigan vs. Scum. Keep Wigan away from us or give us a chance to catch the webbed feet 11?

  • 94 two steps forward one step back // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:06 PM

    NUFC83

that’s a bit premature on the relegation.

Agree if we can’t beat Reading at home there is little hope but a resurgence in form anytime over 5-6 games before the end of the season and we’ll survive just fine

  • 95 Williamsonsuks // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:06 PM

Ibiza… a draw would be best in that one I’d say.

  • 96 south coast toon // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:08 PM

if agressive was toilet paper you woulnt have enough to wipe your a.se pards, for god sake just say it like it is ,we got debuchy in which is great i dont know who else is coming as you know as well as i do it depends on the money- fact. come on the boys today we need this big time be agressive…lol

  • 97 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:08 PM

Williamson….Probably right….it’s just my desire to see Sunderland get beat holding me back :)

Two Steps….My thoughts exactly. Still, better to get back on track today.

  • 98 askar // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:14 PM

@Ibiza: yes Rémy is better than all those players combined!! Rémy = Van Persie or Rooney trust me…He is french international and he is one of the famous “génération d’oree”! QPR and Harry know Rémy’s quality and that he’s obviously a vert good striker! F***

  • 99 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:16 PM

Askar…. Seems a bit odd that no one else was keen to take a punt on him, but we will see.

Either way, it’s over and we need to move on to another target.

  • 100 askar // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:27 PM

@Ibiza “No one” was keen because Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U, Man. City.. already have players of his quality.
Agree with you: it is over we need to move on.

  • 101 bzak12 // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:27 PM

  • 104 bzak12 // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:36 PM

Ibiza Dont forget its a 2 way bet I must win one way or the other

  • 105 bonjovi // Jan 19, 2013 at 1:43 PM

Sell williamson, simpson and we will end upp with a better team. They are useless. I promise we will not let in many goals if they are gone. But i guess nobody wants them.

  • 106 clartybank // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:37 PM

My first match was the Jackie Milburn testimonial. It was magical. I have loved the toon ever since then. Now i am exiled in australia and it seems there is no more joy in the game. Keegan reflected the heart of Geordie football, passion and exhuberance.
Pardew is an anxiety football specialist. It’s definitely more anxious than football. I love it when we attack … that’s what it’s all about. We need to feel exhilarated when we see our team play not depressed. What’s happened?
