Pardew – The Russian Diver Is In Toon

7:48 am, Saturday, January 19th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 73 Comments

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has made the observation that Reading’s Russian International striker Pavel Pogrebnyak is one of the Premier League’s worst divers, especially close to or in the penalty area.

pavel pogrebnyak -300x270

Pavel Pogrebnyak – Russian diver

The Newcastle manager has singled out the Russian, probably to alert the referee of what the Russian does to get his team an advantage in games, although he’s probably only the third best (not sure that’s the right word) diver in the league behind Louis Suarez of Liverpool  (nobody’s better than this lad at going down),  and Gareth Bale of Tottenham.

Here’s what Alan Pardew said about the Russian:

“When we come to Reading, this is a battling side we’re playing. They’re great at set plays — but the striker Pogrebnyak, he falls over.”   “He’s one of the worst players I’ve seen for falling over and buying free-kicks, so we have got to be clever.”

There are some reports of this that say it’s a bizarre claim by Pardew that the Russian dives, but it’s not bizarre at all – and too many players do this in the Premier League these days, and it’s one of the dark sides of football, and it’s nothing short of cheating.

Wonder how Lance Armstrong would be at it – if he played football?

There’s a thought. :D

    Russian Diver !!!

  • 2 Sir Braveheart // Jan 19, 2013 at 7:57 AM

Think Ashley Young makes the top three ahead of this lad.

Some people are behind Pardew, some want him gone. Some support Ashley, some dont. The one thing we can all agree on regardless of our views is we simply cannot lose today. Lose to Reading and we’re no longer staring into the abyss, we’re hanging over the edge.

  • 3 iggystinger // Jan 19, 2013 at 7:58 AM

Tell u what if we got him de jong and a decent striker that would be 3 excellent signins give us supporters sumthin to be happy about for a change lol

Russian diver? Sounds like pards is letting us know the price of vodka has gone up to a fiver in ash’s casino!

  • 5 AusMagpie // Jan 19, 2013 at 7:59 AM

I think people need to relax a little. We’re not in as big a trouble as most think.

Tonight we’ll field a fantastic team with the likes of Cabaye, Cisse, Marveaux, Debuchy, Colocini & the return of Saylor. It’s almost identical to the team that got us to 5th place last season. We’ll win tonight and it will start a roll of undefeated games. Ben Arfa will be back in under a month.

I know going down is everyone’s fear right now but we will survive. We’re too good to go down, take a breath and realize that. We’ll finish top 10. Especially if we sign 2+ more players.

  • 6 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:00 AM

Anyone remember sholas hatrick against reading? Cisse or shola to repeat that today!!!

  • 7 TorqToon // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:03 AM

The talk is ALL about Mbiwa and De Jong over this way just now.

Mbiwa went deathly quiet for around a week or so but a delegation arrived in France on Thursday night and with a view to a meeting on Friday.

Lets hope we are getting more aggressive with our dealings and wrap up deals properly. If you believe some sources – they would tell you that price is agreed – terms negotiated and just awaiting official confirmation.

Watch this space lads ! :-)

think that’s abit harsh on gareth bale.. he’s been booked 3 times from What I’ve seen for diving and not 1 was

Game could be off Snowing heavily and we have a amber weather warning.
Pitch will be ok but seating/terracing will need to be cleared

  • 11 Toon_Tom // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:08 AM

Jonas falls over a hell of a lot too!

Those to lads along with the capture of debuchy wouod be a fantastic window tbf and id happily give full credit to the board, but im not holding my breath!
Id like too see us go for hooper, dont think we have any realistic ‘big’ targets left tbh and think hooper would be a great squad player, a real grafter, which when your hanging above the drop zone, cisse is a great finisher but im not convinced he has the fight to shoulder a relegation battle on his todd!

  • 13 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:14 AM

    Gaz
Bale is a huge diver for a lad his size and tbh comes across as a reet pussy in his interviews always whinging “if i get hurt of course im going to go down what do you want me to do risk hurting myself?”
The lads a talent but soft as a roll of kleenex!
Agree with Sir braveheart that ashley young is one of the worst for diving along with his team mate welbeck who both seem to do it regularly and embarrisingly for the national team
Then of course theres suarez who is just a cheating little b@stard!
    Oh and jonas ;)

  • 14 darrenfletcher88 // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:14 AM

Jonas is aloud!!!! Lol, am thinking 3 points today, cabaye to score first!!

  • 15 Toon_Tom // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:17 AM

    3-0 – Cisse & Marv

I think (hope) we will put in a good shift today

  • 16 iggystinger // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:17 AM

I only think hooper would be a squad player a non starter i personally dont rate him spl he maybe looks ok but european nights he gets found out piss control terrible passer and isnt a team player he walks about like hes on a leisurely stroll half the time we can do much better than hooper

Good morning all…So how’s everyone feeling about the game today? Will there be a game today (Is there a scheduled pitch, stadium or road access inspection or something)?

As always, my heart believes we can do something great today and thus I am starting to believe that my heart is useless….apart from the whole keeping me alive stuff.

Come on lads, we need a win today….but no pressure :)

  • 18 chris_g // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:33 AM

Well, according to goal.com, the russian only scores 3.5 for diving:
    http://www.goal.com/en/people/russia/3691/pavel-pogrebnyak

    Jonas Gutierrez scores 6.5 :(

    @Ibiza
They’re a part of GFN(Get Football News) on twitter. 100K followers that one, but the one reporting french news only has 2-3K followers.
It’s said that they’re not very reliable and neither is le@10sport.
But there are reports on a bid for Mbiwa from various sources, so i’d expect that to be true.
However, the two sources mentioned here are dodgy at best.

    Only time will tell.

  • 33 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:54 AM

Jesper…This is starting to make sense…I think. Do you mean mañana? As in morning? If so, I think you’re spot on. I can’t handle this searching words like manjna and it giving me results for mangina….just not cool.

…why do spanish people have to make it harder than it is? lol

  • 39 reccerobbo // Jan 19, 2013 at 8:59 AM

Anything less than 3 points will not be accepted against a team that’s never won a game away from home all season.

  • 40 Toon_Tom // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:02 AM

    did someone mention marijuana??? ;)

  • 41 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:02 AM

Jesper….I wouldn’t expect you to, I live here and my Spanish spelling is terrible (Don’t worry guys, we wont be starting Spanish lessons again).

One thing I have learned though is that mañana means both morning and tomorrow. However, in my 8 years I have learned that what it actually means is not tomorrow but just not today.

  • 42 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:04 AM

isnt that what the reading fans will be saying too?

  • 44 catchy in norway // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:07 AM

    Bilsson

How does it feel different to tast time we went down

1 we are not winning games

2 players want to leave, ba gone , colo wants to leave, HBA is courting PSG

3 manager is blaming everyone but himself,

It feels exactly like the last time, and what is worse for me is idiots like you refuse to accept it could happen, because Pardew is some sort of god

What needs to happen , draw or loss today he has to go to give whoever comes in a good chance to turn it around ,

Teams that where dead and buried reading an QPR are catching us fast , and our manager just won’t accept this, Norwich was a game to say hey the big games have passed let’s go for it, we got a defensive show, great , smaks relegation to me,

  • 45 Papiss9 // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:08 AM

If we can’t beat a very poor readingside, i’ll be shocked, even if we dont,’t have our best team. that’s NOT an excuse home vs reading.

  • 46 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:10 AM

…that is probably a good life lesson you live there ;) (always been taught it means tomorrow, but now I kno…lol)

    So Mbiwa y’all say! Nice

  • 47 Bambams // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:10 AM

    Positive result today boys !

I honestly think we will do well, we are at St James’ Park and Reading will not want to be up here !

I am going for 3-0 Toon which will do wonders for confidence. I also feel the transfer rumours are so quiet due to a very close signing and not wanting to alert other clubs….

I am not ITK just have a feeling……..

    Come on Newcastle United !

  • 48 nufcjohn // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:10 AM

Can anyone tell me if le10sport and nufcstats and nufc.co.uk are genuine on twitter as they all say we have had a bid accepted of 8 million euros for yanga mbwia CB and they say its imment

    Genuine = YES
    ITK – NO

  • 50 geordiejamie89 // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:19 AM

If Pardew’s main concern is Pobregnyak falling over then there is no reason we can’t get three points. Because Reading are typically poor, although every dog has his day. Newcastle better be in the PL next season, buying my first season ticket at the end of this season!

    report
ccording to our information, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa will soon engage with the English club Newcastle.

According to our information, the final details of the transfer were resolved Friday between the different parties.

The transfer fee should be around 8 million euros. The French international will receive a contract on his side 3.8 million euros per year.
would love this to be true but until i see him holding the shirt…….

  • 52 D-rizzle // Jan 19, 2013 at 9:23 AM

According to French news, (their equivalent of Sky, as well as others), Nancy have accepted Newcastle’s bid for Mbiwa. After Remy I of course won’t believe it until he is wearing black and white, but this has made me much more optimistic!

    Agents mate.
There are journalists all over chasing rumours or the agents call the journalists.
Everything to raise prises for the selling club and not at least for the players and themselfes.
If you didn’t have agents or they had restrictions or had to sign a vow of silence, then maybe thing would be different.

Fair 1 they are coming off the back of a great result for them against WBA.

Newcastle United are confident that Saturday’s Premier League home fixture against Reading will take place.
There is around an inch of snow at St. James’ Park, which at 8.30am was being cleared from the pitch.
Given the preparatory work that took place, and with the assistance of the Council, the surroundings of the stadium are in good shape and not a cause for concern at this time.
Based on the current position, the Club does not envisage any issues with the match going ahead.

The Club will continue to monitor this and update via nufc.co.uk as necessary, as the position may change if there is further snowfall.
Tickets for the match against Reading are still available. For more information, or to secure your seat, click here
