Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player In 2-1 Defeat To Reading

5:06 pm, Saturday, January 19th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 88 Comments

Reading FC

For the second home game in a row Newcastle couldn’t hold a 1-0 lead, and went down to Reading, who are now only two points behind Newcastle, and this was a shock result and puts Newcastle deep into relegation trouble.

And Alan Pardew will take some criticism for substituting some of our better players, as he was holding out for a win, and that never works – and it didn’t this afternoon.

If we cannot beat a side at home who are only one of four teams below us in the league – after being 1-0 up – then who can we beat – and we now think Alan Pardew is under severe pressure at Newcastle, with the emphasis on severe.

This was probably Newcastle’s worst result of the season, and we don’t think Mike Ashley is going to stand by and see the team relegated for the second time in four years.

Bow all we need is t lose Colo on Monday.

You talk about doom and gloom – this was simply a terrible and unacceptable result.

I’ve been saying all season pardew could take us down and I’ve been ridiculed by Ian Toon, Tequila, Ruddy, Manxpie, even Ibiza.

Well no more please gents as you will just lose all remaining credibility supporting this one man car crash.

This was at home with more or less a full side out against the team with the worst away record in all 4 divisions!!! 2 wins in 18 that’s half a season!

I enjoyed the first half and I really hoped he wouldn’t just try and protect a 1-0 lead but true to form first perch for marv and then bigi for cabs, absolute pig ignorant lunacy and lose all momentum and initiative.

Pardew is an arrogant, pig headed, stubborn , clueless, sleaze. PARDEW OUT!!

Cabaye played well until pardew subbed him

  • 7 No Plain Saylor // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:09 PM

Get the fcuk out of our club pardew, I was wishin some lads would storm the pitch after the game and stab him putting him out of our misery. Takin marveux off for perch was a defensive move at one nil up when we should have been pushin for a second. But taking off cabaye at 1-1, our best player in a game we need to win.Tactics of a moron. Unforgivable, it took just 5 seconds of this game for me to laugh, we played two passes and after 5 seconds federici had the ball, the hoofball is ridiculous. I dont care if we get relegated, i dont care if we lose 48 nil to villa, whatever it takes to get pardew out. It’ll be better for us in the long run. But it wont be Pardew out will it? Over the next couple of transfer windows t’ll be colo, benny, santon, krul.. Replaced with what? GTFO NOW u pr1ck. Save Our Souls sent out to Laurant Blanc, Ole Gunar Solsjkaer, Roberto Di Matteo or Paulo Di Canio. Im fully behind the players, and always will be but its gettin very very hard to watch this happenin to NUFC

I just can’t even understand why he does these stupid things.

Why the hell do Ameobi and Jonas start so much? Why would we play 4-4-2 despite Ba leaving?
Why would he be THAT defensive and negative?
Why hoof HOOF HOOF HOOF despite the players we have?
Why do we have to be a joke of a club because of that ridiculous 8 year contract?!?!

  • 12 niafron // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:12 PM

  • 13 Spuggy // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:13 PM

I can only think that Marv and Cabaye were injured? What other reason can there be other than lunacy? An why not bring obertan on first, not his biggest fan but his pace is a good outlet at 70 mins.

Should of been obertan for Jonas and Saylor for Willo at 70 mins.

  • 18 geordie157 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:13 PM

1st half we were decent, Debuchy offered more in that half than Simpson has in an entire season going forward.

Saylor in for Wilo please vs Villa, Obertan in for Jonas.

There must be a winger out there for about 5mill that we can bring in so Jonas doesn’t have to keep playing.

If Mbiwa signs tempted to say stick him at left back and let Santon and Debuchy be a combo down the right wing.

  • 19 brighter // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:13 PM

Playing sh1t Shola in a wide right of a 3 behind Cisse ??? What is he thinking!!!

Is Ashley really willing to lose all that tv money next season? He has to get rid of Pardew and invest now!!

    PARDEW OUT!!

  • 26 Trent Toon // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:14 PM

Pardew tactics to basically want to sit behind the ball with the subs of James perch on for Marv and more terribly bigi on for cabaye was THE reason we lost. Even after the equalizer it was an insult to the fans in the freezing cold and in my case up at two in the morning whatching to put on another defensive midfielder and take off the life blood of our attacks. I can’t understand pardews tactics and neither can anyone else including his own players. Shola Gutierrez and Williamson must be shipped out immediately! And new players must be bought. Get Pardew Out! Hopeless and insulting to us week in, week out! Mike get your wallet out and let’s do some spending!

  • 27 danuneek // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:14 PM

I don’t usually post after games because everyones so negative. I’ve tried to support Pardew all season believing we need stability. But … what were those subs all about? he lost us that game trying to defend a 1 – 0. The best form of defense is attack. If we have the ball then they don’t. The last thing we want to do is get behind the ball and try to defend a 1 – 0 with 30mins to go with a nervy team / crowd.

    PARDEW YOU C**NT.

    Rotonda

I didn’t ridicule you, I disagreed with you, there is a slight difference.

I agree that the tactical decisions cost us massively in this game but in my view we never should have been in that situation. We should have been 3-0 up by half time making any tactical decisions pretty much null and void, I am not making excuses for him because he mucked up big time but shoddy finished and dreadful defending also played their part.

I won’t advocate sacking him because instability at this time could really backfire but I am very deflated, as the rest of you guys probably are too.

    …now 31pts max this season…

  • 37 Rowan Milsted // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:15 PM

Never been so angry with football. Great 1st half, best 45 mins we’ve played in ages, then as soon as the 2nd half started we were negative. Once again we try to defend a 1-0 lead when we’re playing well enough to be 2 or 3 ahead. Then it all goes down the pan. Terrible subs, negative tactics. I’m not calling for Pardew to be fired but he seriously needs to wake up now. Taking Marv and Cabs off completely cut Cisse’s service, then when he did get a chance he wasted it after playing so well 1st half. Gutting. And how did Willo manage to get ahead of his man but miss the ball? Two horrendous individual mistakes but for me the man who lost that game is Pardew. I’m gutted, furious and terrified of relegation.

MOTM Cabaye. Colo was great, Marv did well and Cisse had a good 1st half but needs to stay onside. Debuchy and Santon were good going forward but not so great defensively, esp. the latter.

So who would come to newcastle under Ashley?

    di matteo turned down liverpool?

I am seriously worried and have given up really because if i didn’t support the club like benny, cabs, santon i’d be long gone

  • 46 boater // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:16 PM

The player whose subpar performances have cost us more than any other is Cisse. He began the season as a passenger and is now bordering on a curse – it beggars belief that people on here harp on about building a team around him at the moment.

I have know idea how we can resolve it – and worryingly neither does Pardew.

Sack Pardew now or I can see him taking us into the bottom half of the Championship.
Get DeMatteo in asap if he will take a Championship team on.
Start sorting out who we want to keep and who we know won`t be with us in the Championship.

  • 49 geordiejamie89 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:16 PM

  • 50 terencelim // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:17 PM

It’s easy to tell Ashley needs a yes man rather than someone who could truly and finally win something for the club after so many decades.

When the owner has the right intention and ambition, the team could win something even during the worst form in the league games (Birmingham, Liverpool and Chelsea) which Newcastle would never achieve under Ashley.

In all seriousness though I thought players played well until wor Alan changed it (why did he fricken take off all creativity anyway!!!).

Cabaye was brilliant today, Pardew would probs argue he’s lacking fitness so he was subbed out which is fair enough, but atleast have like for like or something? We were controlling the game! I woulda used bigi over perch, he has a decent touch where as perch is a pure DM. Lord knows what he was thinking putting bigi on for Marveux at 1-1.

Thing is, if we were to go down, if that was the case, can anyone see us coming back up like the 09/10 season? No. We have no leaders in the team. I love Colo, if he goes we are screwed but I don’t see him as captain material, not particularly vocal. The basis of our team is players who would easily get into a top 10 team. If we were to go down, who would we be left with? And as for Pardew, if he were to leave, I cannot see MA going for someone decent to replace him. I wish I was more optimistic….

    Rotonda>

Aside from personally experiencing you being a complete ******** I have to agree now that after today’s showing Pardew could very well take us down.

His decisions today (Cabaye aside because although he was our best player he was knackered and needed to be taken off) were shocking, really shocking.

Marveux should NEVER have been taken off and to change ALL of our mid-field and defend a 1-0 lead against pathetic opposition like Reading AT HOME 25 minutes or so before the end of the game was very telling:

Pardew has lost the plot and the dressing room.

We need great players in and now but who wants to join our car-crash at the minute? I’m not sure that Pardew should be kicked out right now but if no quality players are coming in to give the lads some confidence of our intentions then Pardew might as well walk away now.

BUT WHO WOULD YOU REPLACE HIM WITH THAT WOULD COME?????

    :(

  • 64 Premiership Manager // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:21 PM

We need 4 new players and a new manager, I’ve stood by Pardew, he’s had his chances and now this is the last straw.

Ashley needs to put £20M on the table and get Di Matteo or Martinez in, (he’ll probably end up with Mark Hughes as we don’t seem to be able to get anything right), and move forward.

It’s no good us sitting on our haunches as Pardew has lost the fans and the dressing room and he needs to d the decent thing and resign.

  • 65 Tubai // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:22 PM

Alan Pardew doesn’t know how to manage a big club especially a club of Newcastle’s stature. The fans like us who root for Newcastle really feel let down. He doesn’t has any tactical sense at all. If Mike Ashley persists with him and stick to his whimsical transfer regulations, I fear Pardew could take us down. Last year proved lucky for him as we had luck on our side. This year has shown the true qualities of his managerialship.. If Chris Hughton was sacked without any dire reason, there is plenty now for Pardew to be sacked. PARDEW SHOULD BE IMMIDIATELY SACKED!!

  • 66 texasgaijin // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:22 PM

Biggest problem with getting rid of Pardew is the lack of available alternatives. Who would come in and work with Ashley? A potential manager would have to know he would be left in the dark on anything related to club management and have no say over transfers. What kind of candidates would that attract? The team needs a real manager to drag it out of the mire and fight off relegation, but Ashley must be the most hated owner in the league. You reap what you sow.

  • 67 Assam Toon // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:22 PM

Wonder what pardew’s excuse will be now. We are going down it seems…or at best going down to the last day…which shouldn’t been the case ti begin with.
Pardew out! Or maybe wait till January..but it’s obvious that he isn’t the guy to take us to the next level. Unbelievable how he has messed up this season.

  • 69 lucasnufc // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:24 PM

Ultimately I think Pardew has become complacent and his ego has enlarged. I am absolutely desperate for Pardew to succeed because I really believe in the value of stability. But he’s taken the fans support, the players ability for granted which is unacceptable. It’s unacceptable for him to delegate responsibility for the team’s improvement on the fans with quotes like “we need the fans” “this is when we need you the most”. NO. You need to pull your finger out and leave if you are not up to the job. Very annoyed.

  • 71 Malta Mag // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:30 PM

Reading first goal was solely down to Kruhl staying on his line but we were nervous long before the substitutions. I too have defended Pardew and Ashley but not sure what’s next as we need a boost and a big one at that. Nerves crept in for sure and the crowd were lifeless long before they scored. It reminded me of the cracking atmosphere of the Boro game 4 years ago and then the Fulham game which ultimately took us down. As someone said, the game should have been sewn up in the 1st half. Seems like yet another crisis just when we were starting to look and feel stable. Huge week ahead for sure.

  • 72 toonluvva // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:31 PM

Cabaye was man of the match for me and I had no complaints with his substitution, after all he has not played for ages and will be short of match fitness.
However, the other subs robbed us of any creativity and hence cost us any chance of holding onto a slender lead.
Once again the opposition wanted the win more than us and showed more in the second half.
I wonder how much relegation will cost MA. He is not going to spend anymore in this window. We face a long drawn out end to the season with a chance of being in the championship next.

Just hate that i care so much about this club, if we do end up going down i can’t see us repeating our last effort and getting back up. We will lose most of the quality we have and the backup We’d be left with would never be good enough .

Newcastle’s problem is the lack of British player’s, good hard honest defenders playing in front of their family’s with pride in the job .. and knowing the importance of a clean sheet .. I would have took a nil-nil today but a defeat to the bottom side at home ..Pardew needs to look in the mirror for today’s result.

Who would you want as the next Manager?

  • 76 reccerobbo // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:38 PM

Looks like our away days will be to the likes of burnley, millwall and Peterborough and our derby mate will be against Leeds as looks like Middlesbrough will be coming up

Why is this question asked every time we get beat? It was obvious Yohan was a class above everyone else but he probably tired towards the end as he has been out so long. Problem is there was no one on the bench to bring on to get us over the line on top of Big Jessie not delivering yet again. Fear is on Feb 1st we will get bog standard response from management team: We tried to bring in quality players in January but just fell short AGAIN!

in fairness marv wa crap but should of been replaced with obertan and if cabs asked to come off ya can’t argue with that

  • 81 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:48 PM

Scouse Geordie My sentiments entirely. We’ll be left with the shower that played at Brighton (less Anita)

  • 82 Tubai // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:52 PM

Players like williamson, perch, gutierrez, obertan should immediately be get rid off, and Shola Ameobi should be immediately sent to the African cup of nations(i fear even Nigeria considered themselves fortunate not to take him with them). It doesn’t matter whether he is in the team or not it is always the same. He will never give u goals. I just wonder when Newcastle will get rid off him bcoz i am sure there will be no takers for him. And this is also an eye opener for Ashley. Instead of strengthening the squad in the summer and building on the 5th place finish he tried to act very smart. And also a reminder to Mr lambias, now can u see how many “purpels” a premier league team needs. Even now if the owner doesnot react we could be in deep trouble. I urge all our fans to raise the voice of their protest which becomes audible to Ashley&Co.

RHeights- so your resigned to us going down!!
Well I am not. The game should have been over
at half time. Cisse could have had at least 3 goals and we need an alternative to Shola. Nothing has changed we need MA to do what he should have done in August. We are quite capable of bringing 2-3 players in before our next game @Villa in 10 days. Cabaye was inspirational and HBA will make a big difference as well. Pardew as he did against WBA appeared to want to close the game down at 1-0. Well he wasn’t as lucky. We don’t have to many players to bring on that can change a game. Pardew has said that he had no option but to bring Yohan off. It’s not time to abandon all hope. As I have said I would bring in a Hangeland type CB if Fab is bailing out. Call me deluded but I still think were going to have a good second half of season. Having a drink and not to drown my sorrows but to celebrate Cabaye. Everything is going to be OK with Pardew at the helm we just need Ashley to get the cheque book out. Once we close down on the defensive weaknesses we can look to winning games away from home like at Villa. For a young guy you need to be optimistic just like me. Enjoy the weekend. I plan to see Django unchained which is supposed to be Tarantino’s
best since Pulp Fiction. Go on call me delusional it will make you feel better- LOL

Williamson are the worst player i have watched in the league. Even titus bramble are better. And pardew can stay home and eat “pytt i panna” for the rest of the season. Changed the hole midfield when we really should gone for the win

You guys….can’t you see? Pardew meant to lose this game….and any fixtures ahead..so he’ll be sack by Ashley….then he can enjoy his compensation from his eight years contract…build a farm and enjoy his retirement while playing guitar, singing Elvis….

Pardew….I salutes you….you are one hell of great thinker….
