Yohan Cabaye And Shola Ameobi Both Start

2:04 pm, Saturday, January 19th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 808 Comments

Reading FC

Newcastle make two changes for the game against Reading today, and as expected both Yohan Cabaye and Shola Ameobi both start today.

Yohan and Shola come in for James Perch and Gabby Obertan,  who both start this game on Newcastle’s bench, and Steven Taylor is also on the bench today.

It will be interesting to see how Newcastle line up today – but we would like to see a 4-4-2 formation with Shola and Papiss Cisse up front together.

As young Davide Santon has said this week, we need to win this game – not draw or lose – we simply have to win this game and collect all 3 points, and then we have a game at Villa Park on Wednesday night, followed by a home game against Chelsea next Saturday.

For Reading, former Newcastle player Danny Guthrie starts in central midfield and Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak is up front.

First things first – we need all 3 points today and anything less will be a huge disappointment.

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Mathieu Debuchy, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Vurnon Anita, Yohan Cabaye; Shola Ameobi, Sylvain Marveaux, Jonas Gutierrez; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, James Perch, Steven Taylor, Gael Bigirimana, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Nile Ranger

Reading (4-2-3-1): Adam Federici; Stephen Kelly, Alex Pearce, Adrian Mariappa, Ian Harte; Mikele Leigertwood, Danny Guthrie; Jobi McAnuff (c), Garath McCleary, Jimmy Kebe; Pavel Pogrebnyak
Substitutes: Stuart Taylor, Chris Gunter, Sean Morrison, Hope Akpan, Jem Karacan, Adam Le Fondre, Noel Hunt

Gutierrez and Shola on the wings… Jesus Christ.

  • 2 Blaydon-Toon // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:06 PM

Good team depending on whatc formation we play …. Not sure Pardscis stupid enough to play Cisse RW can he ?

  • 3 reccerobbo // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:07 PM

Confidence is at an all time low!! No pace on either wing.
Got a feeling Danny Guthrie will score the day

    Long ball flick ons

  • 5 boater // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:09 PM

Best team available – mix of steel and creativity – no complaints. Shola to score first from the spot.

  • 6 Rowan Milsted // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:09 PM

I’m assuming that Shola will be behind Cisse – like a sort of number 10 role – with Jonas and Marv flanking. Well, it’s odd, but with players that are available I’m not altogether surprised. I’d rather we started Bigi behind Cisse though, or played Perch alongside Anita with Cabaye in the number 10 role. Shola will surely not be playing on the wing… that would be madness.

  • 7 Offkey // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:10 PM

nufc.co.uk says that Marv, Ameobi and Jonas will provide the creativity in a 4-2-3-1. Cisse up front then

  • 8 GAZ09 // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:10 PM

Ed’s getting carried away with the fixtures, isn’t the Villa game in 10 days time?

  • 9 petey // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:11 PM

    shola picked ahead of squidward….finally!

shame its not sammy for the wing!

  • 10 beddersmag // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Good to see shola playing as cisse will no doubt benefit. Thought perch would be in as we look a bit lightweight in midfield. Could see few goals lets hope we win this one or we are deep in it. Time to man up guys

  • 11 Mancgeordie // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Cisse back on the right for ameobi?? Jonas left and marveux in the hole. That’s absolutely dog sh#t

  • 12 petey // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:12 PM

Remy starts, please god (shearer) make him be rubbish!!!

  • 13 proudtobageordie // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:12 PM

sorry ed but villa a week wed followed by chelsea

  • 14 Toon1978 // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:12 PM

Pretty obvious that Marveaux and Jonas will play wide positions with Ameobi up top with Cisse. I hope so anyway. Anything is possible with the small squad we have.

    boater // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:09 PM

Not only that you predict that Shola will score, you are saying he will score first, and not only that, you are also saying that it will be from the penalty spot?

I bet HBA will score from the stands then.

Good for you mate. I hope you are right of course (although I prefer us to score from an open game).

*Never understand why people make these guesses, based on nothing at all.

    HWTL!

  • 16 tweaked // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:13 PM

willo ffs, really would think taylor should start

  • 17 Rotonda heights // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:13 PM

Is pardew just the most predictable manager ever.

We could be 433 with obi and marv either side of Cisse, but no, it’ll either be 433 with no pace Jonas and shola on the wings or a 442 hoofball with shola and cisse.

You couldn’t make it up the guy is so clueless. Shola doesn’t do 90 mins !!

  • 18 Indian Magpie (HD_07 on Twitter) // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:14 PM

Pardew again undermining Cisse with 442. OMFG SHOLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Certified donkey

  • 19 Rowan Milsted // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Markaccus, fair point, so long as the price is right then I will be reasonably happy – well, at least not unhappy. We don’t want a knee-jerk signing but we need someone – that much is obvious.

Love the way everyone is trying to work out who will be playing where and coming to different conclusions. Hopefully reading will be equally confused! I’m pretty sure Shola will be central with Jonas and Marv flanking.

    Any links guys?

  • 20 Rotonda heights // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:16 PM

    toon 78

nothing is obvious with our manager.

This is at home against the team with the worst away record in all 4 divisions. Wonder what excuse it could be this time.

  • 21 nickybutttt // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:16 PM

i guess, it could be 4-4-1-1 formation, shola located behind cisse

  • 22 NUFC_LEAZES END // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:16 PM

I hope it lines up like this today

    Krul
    Debuchy Williamson collo santon
    Cabaye. Anita
    Marv. Jonas
    Shola. Cisse

Cabaye and Anita in cm roles not dm roles.

  • 23 BarryBalls // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:16 PM

Just wondering exactly what Jonas has to do in order to enjoy an afternoon on the bench rather than shrugging his way through another 90 minutes on the pitch?
At least we should see some goals today……

  • 24 Unbelievable Tekkers // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:17 PM

  • 26 Grafton83 // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:18 PM

It’s obviously a 4-4-2 with Marv and Jonas on wings.

  • 27 Mister Tuff // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:18 PM

Game plan must be long ball to Shola – might get a couple of knock downs -as long as others anticipate it -could lead to a chance. If he’s out on the wing – this may suit Reading. Really Shola should not be starting but he looks like the only one who can head a ball -shows how week our forward line is.
Percy Parsnips comments about the Russian diver -will clearly lead to Willo panicking even more and fouling him -probably in the box. Very nervous about this game could go either way.
Need West Ham to beat QPR -to stop their recent momentum ., and I bet knowing our luck Remy will probably score.

  • 28 GAZ09 // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Whats with all the f##king bitching we haven’t even kicked a ball yet and people on here are already slating Pardew. Get behind the team and then voice your opinions after the game which will probably be complete different when we win.

  • 29 MacToon // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Shola’s showed he’s become a good impact sub so starting him is disappointing but understandable considering our squad. Hope he stuns us all by winning the game for us.

Getting nervous now, a HUGE game for NUFC today.

  • 30 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:19 PM

I think Shola is in there to give us a bit of height as Reading do play a lot of long balls only thing is they play 5 in midfield we could get outnumbered

Bet Guthrie plays his heart out might get sent off as he tends to leave his foot in

442 may actually work if we have Marveux left and Jonas Right As Santon and Jonas can do the running and create the spaces and Marv and Debuchy can put the final ball in 1st time rather than cutting inside

This could actually work have faith ha ha

  • 41 Markaccus // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:23 PM

Don’t think shola should start. Marv jonas wide. Cabaye as link man, perch comes in for shola and plays DF with anita. Why won’t any manager drop shola?

  • 42 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:23 PM

    Im just gonna say it
Thats a fcuking awful line up!
Wtf is shola playing in the hole? I mean ffs relying on shola as our creative spark is kinda like relying on an expired condom thats been pin pricked
And 2 of our most creative midfielders from a passing stand point our acting as CDMs?
Shola cant play 90 mins should be perch for shola with cabs pushed up thats way too defensive for a home game!

sorry to say but the man needs to sacked as soon as possible picking a lineup like this.

cabaye is needed higher up the pitch to provide the team with the drive and to play either cisse or shola on the right is the biggest joke.

we all know sammy and oba have been poor most times this season but they offer so much more on the right than shola will. even if you look at last season i challenge anyone to find more that 10 games we played well in, we were lucky that the big players changed games that were close or games we were being dominated in.

    SACK THE IDIOT

  • 45 Hatem's better than Messi // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:24 PM

tads….To use your charming likeness to a pin pricked condom…sometimes they lead to good things. Perhaps this will produce the birth of our running streak? Ha.

  • 48 MacToon // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:26 PM

Hatem’s better than Messi, I agree and if we see that we should see 3 points aswell.

  • 49 ConsettToff // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:26 PM

If we play hoofball – Pards must go.
If we play defensively minded – Pards must go.
If we shackle Cabaye – Pards must go.
If we rely on Jonas for attacking creativity – Pards must go.

We’ve proven that we can score goals against the likes of Manure & Arsenal. Only an attacking minded game with victory at all costs will satisfy me today.

This is a must-win game – there can’t be ANY excuses after the match. ‘Nuff said.

  • 50 Thump // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:27 PM

@joeinthecheapseats: Gomis? The Shola of Ligue 1? Say it aint so!

  • 51 Dannyo // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:27 PM

I think Shola will be bullying defenders for as long as he can, and in the last 30 minutes, bring Obertan on with fresh legs and outpace every player out there, creating chances.

  • 52 Grafton83 // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:27 PM

Thats the 4-2-3-1, we’ve had much worse starting lineups in our recent past, should have enough quality today. I’m pleased Obertan isn’t included but Jonas offers little and Shola can only sustain a light jog for a total of about ten minutes per match before he’s knackered.

  • 53 Thump // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:27 PM

WTF…pants pardew is doing it again…he’s gone back to 4-4-2 for god’s sake. Reading will play 4-5-1 and stifle us in midfield and Cisse won’t get a telling pass all day…Pardew has morphed into the biggest muppet we’ve ever had in charge at newcastle…why oh why change the system that did so well for us last year.

we should have ABC in the middle (bigi, cabaye and Anita), with Jonas and Marveaux giving us the width and Cisse up front

and as footnote…an unfir tayloer is twice as good as a fit williamson…I’m lost for words

Tbf if the line up pays off fair play to them but for me shola shouldnt be starting games especially with no recognised CF on the bench the lad just cant do 90 mins he just gets lost in the tempo of the game whereas bring him 65-70 mins and he’s brilliant

  • 62 Thump // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:30 PM

For what it’s worth, Shola is playing in the hole because that’s where he can hold up play and lay it off for Cisse. We’ve seen him do it throughout his career and that’s what we’ll see tonight, shortly followed by a beautiful rendition of Swan Lake by the man himself.

We are definitely being more aggressive in this transfer market. Before we didn’t even know if we had bit for our targets but we are actually having bids accepted for quality players. We are matching their valuation and not haggling over the price like Denuchy….

  • 113 AmericanGeordie // Jan 19, 2013 at 2:49 PM

I prefer to line up in a 4-2-3-1, but this XI is not suited for it.

I don’t care what the “official” team sheet says we’ll be playing a 4-4-2 with Marveaux & Jonas on the wings, Cisse through the middle and Shola as our target man.

He is adaptable and can also develop play from the back, he is also a leader and will play with our current French lads to cement his place in the national team.

Just a quick message prior to the game lads.

Fantastic news from France with regards Mbiwa. Spoken to a friend at the club and he won’t play in their game this weekend it seems. The club have accepted the €7.9mil bid and the player wants to come to us. Wages have already been discussed and agreed on and Yanga – Mbiwa is more than happy.

As far as a medical is concerned – I believe it is going to be conducted tomorrow IN FRANCE with details signed, and the player will arrive in the UK Monday with a view to be announced on Tuesday. There is also, allegedly, a clause agreed to prevent other clubs talking to the player as terms have been agreed.

This is all from a source from Montpellier themselves and, as with anything, isn’t water tight, however it’s the same person who told me last week (tuesday) that the club delegation was in for Mbiwa.

Fantastic news and the club taking every precaution to prevent a repeat of Loic Remy. HWTL

  • 281 Thump // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:50 PM

Only complaint I have is Jonas not wanting to run for balls that Santon is putting through to him. He looks like a shadow of the player we had, sadly.

  • 282 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:51 PM

I cried tears of joy when Debuchy got behind the reading defenders. Something we haven’t seen Simmo do, and it almost paid off.

Cisse could have had 1-2 goals, had it not been for high class reflex saves from Federici, his volley wasn’t half bad also.

Cabaye… Speechless. We have sorely lacked him in the team and its proven today.

Considering recent performances… this one has been rather entertaining.

  • 283 Williamsonsuks // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:51 PM

Happy with 1st half. Cisse could have scored, give him his due, they were all on target, keeper got lucky. Think Cisse will get a goal. HWTL

  • 285 Bambams // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:51 PM

Cisse is not looking along the line and keeps straying offside.

    He needs a goal……

Right, I hope Pardew does not NOT change it with ten mins to go by bringing on a further defender ! We cannot defend leads this way, we need to keep them worrying about us scoring again !

  • 286 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:51 PM

Yo….Well only because it upsets you :)

So, decent enough first half. Think we played better than Reading, which you would expect. Still some issues, but that is also expected. Could do with another goal early second half, but so far I’d say all is going to plan.

Yo – I agree mate. I hope lessons were learned with regards the Loic Remy situation and we won’t be burnt twice.

As I say, it seems the Mapou has the deal to suit him, the toon and Montpellier so fingers crossed all goes to plan. Will let you know if I hear more.

First and foremost – a decent first half and albeit a classy display by their GK this game will be dead and buried. Need to push on again second half and not switch of to get caught on the counter. Cisse looks impressive today, Cabaye is like a new signing and it was a solid display. Lets get a win hear – and discuss our future skipper (imo) tonight!

    HWTL

  • 292 Baro // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:54 PM

Hopefully Colo doesnt leave …. but if he does Yohan Cabaye better be captain of this side! Not because of the goal, but he is always communicating and directing on the pitch

  • 293 Rotonda heights // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:54 PM

Think that coaching course must have done Pardew some good.

Finally at last some passing and moving with the ball for the most part staying on the deck.

Very enjoyable watch so far. Just hope Pardew doesn’t sit on it as per, but go for the second and kill them off.

Anita is a little gem and Marveaux a growing influence the more he plays.

Starting to dream of M’Biwa for Willo, Benny for Jonas and PEA for Shola and then we have a heck of a team

Once Willo can do that run afew more times, he will grow a heart of a lion, that can only be good for us.

  • 297 Toonacious T // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:55 PM

We started playing hopeful, direct balls, high towards the D on the edge of their box since we got the goal. Played some decent possession stuff before that without looking too penetrative. Need to go at them start second half as we clearlu need a second goal. I think we need Marv running at them more. Class free kick from Cabs. Cisse missed a couple of great chances, really hope he gets a goal second half here. HWTL!

  • 298 Crow59 // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:55 PM

Great team play all round every man looking as if theyve realised what it means to wear a b and w shirt, despite dreamboats freekick for me marv has been the man of the first half, his ability to beat players and turn on the spot is phenomanal and his distribution has been top class eg header to cisse for the volley and winning the freekick for the goal. All round great first half, cabayes return really looks to have spurred the team on now lets hope for the same second half HWTL

  • 299 voodoo85 // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:55 PM

Good first half. Short passing has been good but stop the long balls please back 4, Cabaye has been missed so much, his passing and reading of game is superb. Debuchy impressing at RB especially going forward, much better than Simmo so far. Marveax and Anita playing well too.

Glad to hear the Mbiwa news and he is not in the team today for Montpellier so something in it

As for Remy, give it a rest, he’s a QPR player, can we please focus on our great players and those who want to play for us.
Great game, good intent, I would like us to press for a 2nd goal as Reading r dangerous on the counter. Good passing and movement and despite Cisse has not scored his movement has been good and has been unlucky to score so far but every chance he can in the second half. Marveaux looks menacing, Cabaye great goal, movement and passing, Debuchy looking like a class act – I have nothing but praise for our lads and I hope we continue the same as we did this first half in the second. fkin cisse begining to annoy me now with all the obious offsides

  • 308 LGFUAD21 // Jan 19, 2013 at 3:57 PM

    Improved performance so far.

Shola and jonas have brought stability to the side.

The big difference is that we have held the ball.

Anita and Cabaye are working together well . Anita has a quality touch and passes well.

Cabaye Maria and Anita’s energy in the middle is helping us control the game at times.

Cisse needs confidence and fights. Doesn’t attack balls and whenever he is bypassed I think it gets to him clearly.

He needs to be a bit more mobile.

With jonas and Shola we have lost some of our attacking prowess but we are giving ourselves a better chance to create by keeping it simple and holding the ball and preventing reading from building momentum.

No changes needed yet for me. But and appearance from obertan or spammy on the wing late in the game could give us some energy and pass to seal it if we are still ahead.

One thing we are not taking advantage of is readings defensive set up. They are decent at defending crosses but their defence never covers the edge of the box on attacks. Balls should be put in along the ground to just behind the penalty area where IMO Marveaux should be positioned for them while the defenders are worrying about Shola and cisse.

    That’s how arsenal punished them.

Internet connection went off lads. Tell me what the goal was like. Precision or power, or a combination? Outwide or central? I gather it was a freekick from Cabaye. From what I could catch of the first half their keeper is having a blinder. If we keep up the pressure he surely can’t keep everything owt. Got to be careful of that break as they have a gameplan to soak us up and hit us with numbers.

  • 347 TurkishFan101 // Jan 19, 2013 at 4:14 PM

Hmm. Cisse is always left playing out Left or right. This is because of Jonas being a lazy twat. Even Santon is attacking and defending more then that guy. We really need a winger/striker to replace Ameobi. Apart from that its been a good half.

  • 379 LGFUAD21 // Jan 19, 2013 at 4:28 PM

I understand Pards wanting the preserve this lead at all costs but I think he’s been a bit shortsighted in it.

We were more likely to keep possession with. Marveauxs passing alongside Anita and cabs.

Now we will lack that and rely on perch to break up play, of which there isn’t too much from reading in the first place.

That change will have opened us up.

Would’ve been better taking off cisse and pushing Marveaux forward if he wanted to bring perch on.

  • 380 TurkishFan101 // Jan 19, 2013 at 4:28 PM

  • 492 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 19, 2013 at 4:37 PM

Fair enough. Bring on a defensive player to protect a lead.

But why bring on a second defensive player while we are still at 1-1.

Replacing two of our more attack minded versatile players with the ability to pick out passes and create magic, for players that are defense-orientated.

I’ve yet to shout “Pardew out”. But I’m at my limits here.

Santon too far from Kebe for the cross for the first goal, Willo missed clearance let’s Fondre score, Jonas not closing down Akpan and the defenders not getting out quick enough leads to the second.

You know what makes it even funny. Looks whos on the pitch. Perch, Bigi, Jonas, Obertan, Shola. Now tell me Perch is a championship player, Bigi is not ready yet, Obertan cant cope in this league, Jonas has lost it he cant dribble, cant pass, cant track back do nothing but dive. Shola? Dont get me started first 20min his out of breathe no stamina left no nothing. Who will supply the ball to Cisse?? Williamson panics and and hoofs it and isnt a Prem player. This has all gone wrong with addition of worst ever tactical philosophy in addition to hoofing, worst f£*2king ever substitutions ever. I want anyone to challenge me to say I am not correct.

  • 660 chanty // Jan 19, 2013 at 4:57 PM

I’ve been patient, optimistic even, but enough is enough. something has to change! first half was so positive, then negative substitutions and tactics end up with the same result, with a pretty much full strengths team

  • 661 geordie157 // Jan 19, 2013 at 4:57 PM

we gave them the win today, well with an assist from Le Fondre’s hand! But we should have attacked them, not sit back and try and win 1-0, rubbish 2nd half, and two people stand out for the blame, Pardew for being negative and not have the balls to drop Jonas. And secondly Jonas, who is a serious liability, offers absolutely nothing to the team.

Get Jonas out and give Obertan or Fergs his place. Or even better buy a quality winger.

  • 665 Spuggy // Jan 19, 2013 at 4:58 PM

I’ve been subjective when it comes to pardew. But today the subs of Perch and Bigi for our two most gifted attack minded players on the pitch was very very odd.

I think he’s lost his nerve.

Wow. How can this team be in this kind of trouble.

Cisse so unlucky first half – nothing going for him, he can only connect with the ball and get it on target and he did a few times.

Cabaye put in a world class performance.

    Collo was immense.

Marv has some flashes of excellence.

Debuchy delivered some decent balls and looked steady again.

    And we lose? we LOSE.

Terrible terrible subs today. That’s the first time I’ve said that categorically from Pards.

    Wow, readings first away win.

We have turned back the clock by 4 seasons, with much much better players.

    I’m speechless.

Don’t mean to be a pessimist but we are on 21 points and there are what 33-36 points left to play for.

We need to get 9 points from 19 points from those. Hats not much less than 2/3. Who are we going to beat for those points?

Desperate times desperate measures. Ashley: go big or go down. You’re a gambling man. Show some ambition and appoint a decent manager.p and some signings. It may be a risk but either way we will lose players in the summer because we don’t have any sign of promise and ambition for the players to write this season off and come back fighting next year.

Benitez was out of the job, Jol was out of the job and we appointed Pardew who got Europa league because he had a young, hungry and fresh squad all eager to prove themselves in the prem.. Add to that that we were unpredictable because of it.

It’s when you can’t throw money around that the real managers show themselves.

He was lucky that the players made him look like a good manager but now that that same set of players actually need someone to manage them his true colours have come out. We will be thrashed by Villa if he is not sacked because we will play well until we score and then he’ll f it up. 1st 45 mins was good, but 2nd half was poor and AP went out with a negative attitude. He subbed our most creative players in Marv and Cabaye and replaced them with Perch and Bigi when we needed to win this game.
Reading had not won at all away from home, all season. We lost at home to the worst team in the league away form equal to us. I have never seen such an inept manager, AP reminds me of Ruud Gullit. Now is the time for immediate change – I will no longer defend AP. Today he had a near to fully strong team and he still managed to lose the game. Its unforgivable, AP must go – and for those who want consistency and stability, the only thing that I know that is guaranteed is that if we continue to stick to AP your gonna keep getting the same result. He hid behind the injuries all season and today just proved that the man has lost the plot. Really wanted AP to prove me wrong but the man is clearly very incapable of doing that. Pardew must resign – otherwise we’ll go down – he is out of his depth and is talking us into relegation! Disgusting!

  • 710 NUFC FOR SALE // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:02 PM

it doesn’t matter who we sign.

Pardew has not got them playing as a team, they dont defend as a team and they certainly dont attack as a team.

pardew has to go before we sign anyone

thank christ pardew is not in charge of player recruitment, we’d have a team full of plodders

    Pardew go now

  • 711 navsingh1 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:02 PM

we can all talk about how pardew is rubbish and useless and taking off 2 best attacking players was stupid beyond belief. But the players have to take some of the blame…why can we not defend a 1-0 lead at home against a team below us and supposedly havent got international players in their team.

Pardew may have said just back off a bit, defend defend, but players should say wtf, we wont attack as much but least close the players down and make them play quicker rather than have time to look up and play the pass. the first half was like last year, and the second half was everything that was wrong with this season.

i think we all deserve pardew to come out and say what he said at half time cos it was 100% wrong.

  • 715 Rowan Milsted // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:02 PM

I’m f furious, sorry for swearing but it has to be said, f disgraceful. I’ve never called for Pardew to be sacked and I’m not now but that defeat is all down to him. We were so good first half, positive, good going forward and would have been 3 up but for the keeper. As soon as the second half started we were negative, then the subs were an absolute joke. We cut off all Cisse’s supply by taking Marv and Cabs off, and fuck saying Cabs needed to come off, he was playing superbly and could have played to the 80th minute at least. I’m sure there will be a story about how he needed treatment and then lo and behold he will start next game. Bollocks. Only 2 faults of players was that Willo should have dealt with the cross, he got there first and seemed to pull out, and Cisse’s miss was horrific and stupid, but for me Pards lost us that game with negative tactics and ridiculous subs. I’m so, so angry.

It’s no longer a case of injured players now. Pardew is clueless. So so so frustrating to watch Newcastle!!! All the players look lost, why the f*** sit back after going up a goal? We should have got rid sooner than this. Pardew out.

  • 718 stevie101182 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:03 PM

This is first time I will say this

    PARDEW NEEDS TO BE SACKED

His subs today whay was he thinking I can understand Cabeye coming off as he is just coming back from injury but Marvo coming off for Perch.

We need to do some major signings in the next 4-5 days or we are in serious serious trouble I do still think we have enough to get out of trouble and still think QPR, Reading and Villa will go down. There is also Southampton and Wigan who are poor. but we majorly need to sign so players Striker and a winger needs to be a priority now.

one of the saddest things is that we arent even surprised that we lost.

if im honest, ive been a “pardew apologist” as some of you have dubbed. but after this terrible season and especially today’s game, its not hard to see that pardew is a freaking lunatic.

i cant wait for his excuse, if im honest i still dont think that we are getting relegated (maybe im in massive denial) but if we keep going on like this, we will be.

im basically done with this season, after this i wouldnt be surprised if our squad gets thinner as well…

  • 726 BrightonMag // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:04 PM

Couldn’t agree more with the comments so far, I don’t comment on here often, but after watching that match I feel compelled to. What the f*%k was Pardew playing at? Marveaux and Cabaye, our two best players on the pitch and you take them off to replace them with Perch and Bigi and then to top it off you bring Obertan on for Anita!? I’ve been supporting Pardew all season and willing to give him the opportunity to prove the problems this season have been down to injuries, but his complete lack of tactical common sense today has completely changed my mind, I want him out now before it’s too late, 2 points above relegation is not good enough, with our team today we should have wrapped this game up by half time, Ashley, take note, get rid NOW!

  • 727 noladonna // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:04 PM

  • 729 DanRo // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:04 PM

    Substitutions changed the game.
Newcastle could and should have been 3 up at half time.
Cabaye came off – tiredness. Fair enough.
Marveaux – simply because he doesn’t track back enough. I personally don’t subscribe to this belief.
AP has done himself no favours. He will know that. Up to him to change.

  • 733 Special K // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:04 PM

That’s home losses to West Ham, Swansea, Reading and Draws with Villa, Norwich and what should have been WBA. Your home form usually decides if you go down, we’re well and truly f##ked.

Can’t see where the 18 ish points we need for survival will come from? Seriously our first choice XI wasn’t getting it done at the start of the season and now with injuries, we’re in trouble. Somebody look at our fixtures and tell me where 18 points are coming from. I can get 14/15 at a push.

Pardew needs to earn his stripes now, the argument will be sack or not? You have to believe that if anyone can get us back to last years form it’d be Pardew but I don’t know. Stability v Gamble. The latter hardly worked in 08/09…

If he went, who could not only save us but kick on next year towards the heights of last year? Curbishley, Martinez, Adkins… I’m leaning towards Pardew but from next four games, Villa (A), Chelsea (H), Tottenham (A) & Southampton (H), if we can’t get 5 or 6 points. He has to go.

  • 734 ramboreilly // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:04 PM

I said a few weeks ago I would judge pardew when we have some of our players back, well i am judging him now.His record in league and cup is terrible, some of our wost performances in the last 20 years have been under him.We have had some big defeats and some humilating cup exits to lower division teams and our really good wins have been very few.The mans mediocre, very much like willo,perch,ameobi,obertan,4 players he rates very highly.

Can’t believe how the mood of you bloggers changed in space of about 15 minutes. We can’t close games out. Not just this home home but those against West Ham Swansea, Everton & Aston Villa apart from leading 3 times at Old Trafford and being 3-3 at Arsenal with 15 mins to go will cost us dearly. Question will Villa send us down again ? Will the big lad from Montpelier want to come now? Fear all back will now go i.e Santon & Simmo as well as Krul to provide MA with funds. No doubt the start of the old Sack the Board, You fat Cockney b…..d get out of our club & We want Pardew out chants will begin again but will it really do any good. Fact is we havn’t got the players up for a dogfight.

  • 759 pedro // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:08 PM

Pardew obviously felt like he still owed Reading for when he walked out on them. If you could make 3 subs to give the advantage to Reading it would be Cabaye, Anita and Marveaux. We had bossed the game, they are the 3 players who can pass a ball, keep posession and create chances and he takes them off with 25 mins to go to defend a 1 goal lead. Terrible decisions. There can be no other excuses today because that was so clearly the factor in this result.

Never been so angry with football. Great 1st half, best 45 mins we’ve played in ages, then as soon as the 2nd half started we were negative. Once again we try to defend a 1-0 lead when we’re playing well enough to be 2 or 3 ahead. Then it all goes down the pan. Terrible subs, neagative tactics. I’m not calling for Pardew to be fired but he seriously needs to wake up now. Making Marv and Cabs off completely cut Cisse’s service, then when he did get a chance he wasted it after playing so well 1st half. gutting. And how did Willo manage to get ahead of his man but miss the ball? Two horrendous individual mistakes but for me the man who lost that game is Pardew. I’m gutted, furious and terrified of relegation.

I have been reading this blog for years. Now I have to share!!
    I am so mad.
Pardew is to blame for this.

What team does Pardew want to put out against a team like Reading? We have better players in every position.

Unbelievable…We lost to the last team in the league… We lost to a team that did have an way win… A team that doesn’t have the facilities or the scouts or the talent that we have. And the worst thing is we NEEDED that win.
How many of you really trust Pardew to turn things around?
Man this guy has a really bad manager record

  • 780 steveshearer // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:12 PM

Never posted before, but always come on to read others comments.

Genuinely devastated. I don’t understand the Marveaux substitution at all. Maybe Cabaye had to come off no matter what was happening due to his fitness, but taking off Marveaux was mental. Why take off our most dangerous and positive player over this whole dreadful period? He was playing well and confident. I’m no football manager, but why the hell do we have to shut up shop at home against Reading? I know we’re desperate for points, but surely (due to us being anything but solid) we can’t rely on sitting back and defending to win a game. Also, we were playing Reading, not Barcelona. Why can’t we attack them and get more goals, instead of relying on one? With Marveaux gone, if they equalise, who is going to create a winning goal? Is Shola going to take on 3 guys and slip a through ball in? Although to be fair if he did Cisse would have been offside or just hit the ball as hard as he can as soon as he gets anywhere near it.

We have now lost 2 home games in a row in exactly the same way. We never looked like getting back into it. I’m not saying this because I’m annoyed, but I genuinely do not think we will beat Aston Villa. Why would we go and beat them just because they’re in bad form. We are just as bad. I still remember Shay Given saying it in around 2004 and I agree, teams in bad form must relish playing Newcastle. It’s the perfect chance to get a win. Sickening!

  • 781 BarryBalls // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:13 PM

There was only one team playing for the win in the last 10 minutes. There’s no way Cabaye, HBA and Marveaux won’t be asking their agents to sniff out a Jan move. Career-threatening otherwise!
I can handle defeat easier if there’s effort on show but that second half was unbearable.

AP couldn’t get a grip of the game in the 2nd half – and so he thought that bringing on defensive players instead of creative players. He excuse “we’re not used to winning” no shlte! Pardew you gormless fcuking idiot………..OUT!

The squad today was full of Internationals, more than capable of beating a poor reading side. No more Injuries no more excuses pardew. I can’t remember the last game where we dominated an opposition this season and won comfortably.

  • 790 irishtoon999 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:20 PM

Where is all the positive nonsense this evening then? All the people on here that got on Remi ,s back for not signing should concede that they were wrong and it’s our wanker setup that should f off to qpr . Who do does Ashley think he is playing hard ball with the likes of ba and remi.. Well his crap wage policy is going to get us relegated

  • 791 Pardew_out // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:20 PM

A manager do not dare to win a game
How could to players win the game
    Get out pardew

  • 792 hatem786 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:22 PM

    AP OUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!KEEGAN IN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOW:)

  • 793 Toonacious T // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:22 PM

Phil Thompson saying Guti looked leggy from the start and should have been the one to be subbed. Cisse has minus confidence atm. If we can’t beat Reading at home, who can we beat? Pardew said Cabs was complaining about his groin so he was forced to take him off!

  • 794 hallelujah..john tudor john tudor // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:24 PM

THE TRUTH, we had luck last season, pardew has been found out, when was the last time we hammered someone, PARDEW HAS TO GO, how many managers would love to work with our group of players, NO MORE COCKNEYS, JUST GO

  • 795 icon3815 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:25 PM

As long as we have Pardew and MA that fat bastard we’ll go down, or situatuion reminds me more and more of Blackburn since they got those VENKY weirdos, they got venky we got fat mr. sportsdirect and mr. greyfox aka pardthrew him away.
Williamson, Jonas, Cisse, Perch, Obertan,Ameobi OUT

  • 796 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Spudzzz SELL Big Jessie to Yeovil no Give him away to Bishop Auckland & I’ll drive him there meeself & all you HBA lovers that mon needs to concentrate on getting properly fit for the Toon instead of saying he wants to go to PSG, Chelsea, Liverpool or whoever.
What the team now needs is this Club’s fantastic support. It’s not over till the fat lady sings. I know the away support at Villa next week will be fantastic. Let’s hope MA shocks us all, gets the dust off his wallet & brings in three class players but he needs to keep the other regulars apart from Willo the Weak as back up (I think strengthen is the word)

  • 797 izzyb1991 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:27 PM

Okay so last time I posted was Summer transfer window deadline day. I’m still here, just never have time to post but today- today was a joke and Pardew has been given more than enough time. Sack him because he’s obviously not the man to turn this ship around.

  • 798 izzyb1991 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:28 PM

I miss Joe Kinnear. At least he had balls.

  • 799 Dondatta13 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:28 PM

Llambarse and co have left Pardew out to dry. We all new we need recruits brought in, why have we been dragging our heels?

1st Jan 2013 we should have players undergoing medicals and signed up.

We’re told the ground work is done all year. Clubs should have been approached November/December time. Pre contracts should be signed during that time and the deals done first week in Jan…

On the game, one word… UNLUCKY.

Hard to swallow I know but last season we took the good luck, now we have to all stay united and suck up this bad luck.

Pardew looked to sure things up and it went wrong. It hurts, it makes the manager look inept and the supporters get on the teams back.

A great man once said “We’re in a dog fight BUT there’s fight in the dog”…

We all need to show some fight, lets get out of trouble first, THEN address the short comings of this season, be that the playing staff, manager or board/recruitment team.

Icon If we had Venkys as the owners we could at least act the part :

    Running around like headless chickens

  • 801 Marty-Toon // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:36 PM

Santon has gotta be at fault for the first and poor challenge for the second from him

  • 802 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:38 PM

Dondatta – good constructive comments just fear that we just don’t have the spirit in the squad for a dogfight. HBA (any real pace we have is still injured) Tiote at African Nations perhaps to mid Feb. Need to buy big : TWO quality CBS, a pacy free scoring forward & midfield destroyer but the management team should know this if they have any interest in saving their “investment”

  • 803 hallelujah..john tudor john tudor // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:43 PM

PARDEW OUT, even my 5 year old grandson disagrees with his subsitutions

  • 804 Dondatta13 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:46 PM

Pardew brought Cabaye off as Cabaye told him he was injured…

  • 805 chefclarkey // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:48 PM

The only thing I pray for is that we are playing in the EPL next year, when May comes around. I dont care how we do it, but one thing is for sure – If not now, Pardew has to be gone by the summer. I would love it if he got sacked now, however I think it will be extremely risky sacking our manager now without a replacement found. (Hopefully Blanc)
I have heard people stating that they want Atkins, why? He is identical, with his tactics and man management, compared with Pardew. Any manager would love to come to the club, especially with the current quality we have, and especially if he can add to it.
I will support us through thick and thin, and am genuinely hoping we do not get relegated again, but when Summer arrives, I really do not want to look at Pardew as our manager anymore!

  • 806 numba9 // Jan 19, 2013 at 5:52 PM

Weak management to do what the owner wants and will only carry on doing so. Weak squad because of lack of ambition in the last two transfer windows to build on a good season . Players would have came In a good position but he wants to undergachieve because he does not want to fork out
