We had reported yesterday that there were reports in France that Newcastle were close to signing Montpelier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, and last night there were many more reports that Newcastle had signed the French International.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – fee accepted by Montpelier
There were many tweets flying around late last week that Newcastle were in serious negotiations with Montpelier, for a player who has been a target of Newcastle’s for about fifteen months now.
But of course after what happened with Loic Remy – who scored on his debut yesterday to give QPR a good 1-1 draw at West Ham – Newcastle fans will only believe it when the signing is officially announced by the club.
But it’s the French daily L’Equipe that are reporting Montpelier have accepted an €8M bid for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, and that the player will now travel for a medical next week to sign for Newcastle.
We just hope the lad doesn’t have a last minute change of mind, as seems to have happened with Loic Remy – and Arsenal are also said to be interested in signing the player.
But we’ll have to get him in quickly, after yesterday’s terrible 2-1 defeat by Reading, which was Reading’s very first away win of the season, and they now have three wins in four games, and have gained 8 points on Newcastle in the last four league games, and are only two points behind us.
Newcastle are now left as the only club in the Premier League not to have won away from home this season, and we are at Villa Park a week on Wednesday night – who are playing as badly as we are, and are one of the four teams still below us in the league table..
And it’s the 10th defeat in the last 13 games for Newcastle, and to think we lost only 11 games all of last season – as things have really been turned around at the club – for the worse.
And the loss in the six pointer now puts Newcastle in serious jeopardy of being relegated again this season – there’s just no way of getting away from that.

Comment #4Could be off to Man Utd, Arsenal or QPR. We need to tie up Sissoko. Now is our chance. He is willing to listen to offers from English clubs.

I’d sooner believe, that a pig sprouted wings and flew towards the sunset, then Newcastle signing a second player this window… let alone two more players.

Comment #13What were the odds on us being relegated at the start of the season? Maybe the big man had a cheeky flutter in an attempt to recoup his losses.

Comment #14What was really frustrating today was watching us knock the ball about in the 1st half Krul was the only one launching it
When we were playing 442 with Ba and Cisse earlier in the season we could have played the ball on the deck as well but chose to go long and whenever we are getting beat we go long and lose out
Why is this??!?!?!?
Realistically Mbiwa if he comes could be amazing but only if Colo stays to ease him into it if the guy plays with Williamson or Taylor we could ship heavy goals
Also Jona’s time is up did anyone see Santon having an argument with him in the 1st half for ruining a move?!?!He stops so many of our attacks and if we get that Haidara left back playing Santon further up could be the best option
Also another thing why do we get a bid accepted and then have the player come over in a few days?!!?
Pardew should be going over to France 2moro 1st thing to get him and bring back Haidara , Sissoko and a striker in the suitcase as well

Comment #17Santon the new Maldini – did you not think a lot of the final balls were hoof like? The final balls disappointed me the most today but I so think cisse should have scored a couple more.
No more signings this window? After the atmosphere today I think we will have one by Wednesday and one by the weekend. Surely Pardew and Ashley know not that this is serious? We lost to reading at home, their first away win. Mike Williamson again played a part in a very easy goal for the opposition. If we sign this heidara? First I’m going to be a little perplexed. We’re crying our for a striker and a centre back and perhaps even a winger so we don’t have to play a blooming striker out of position on the wing

Comment #18It must be said though, Pardew has been an incredibly loyal servant to Shola! I still can’t bring myself to watch the interviews on nufc.co.ck – Pardew’s ghostly performances are disturbing enough but what really nauseates me is the prospect of another dose of pseudo-wisdom from Ameobi Snr. Just to be clear: i’ve got nothing personal against the guy – who i’m sure is a thoroughly decent human being – i just don’t rate him as a footballer.

Only 10 days to go to the Villa game and 12 to the end of the window. Players in = 1. (should have been 2 re Remy).
A CB should have been the priority – if we had one today we might have salvaged something. It ‘s fine saying Williamson had a good game but time and time again he costs us -not his fault but he should have been replaced ages ago.
I had thought we might get a minimum of 4 players in with a high value/surprise purchase -not looking so good now -unless in the previous 2 weeks the board really have been working away and there is going to be a flurry of activity in the coming days.
Collo will be away so second CB is needed and a quality striker/attacking midfielder who knows how to head a ball.
Our loss today will give confidence to the others in the relegation fight that they may survive/overtake us. Not a good day at all.

Comment #24It be interesting if ashley does spend. Everyone knows he is a complete tight arse but everyone else does know he has cash that he can blow. I cant see him be that much of a dick and not bring the supplies in before the window shuts and allow pardew to loose more games. These next 12 days will determine what our board really think of our club.

Comment #25Nick_9 some of the final balls were long passes not hit and hope hoofs although in the 2nd half it was all useless passes especially when we took Marveux Anita and Cabaye off god knows why??
There was a long ball that Cabaye played in Cisse for a great chance which their keeper saved and Marveux done a similar one which nearly got Shola in as well so sometimes a long ball is fine but there was also some great little flicks and passes and another day Cisse would have had a brace
I am a bit worried that new signings might be too little too late as we need guys who know what they are doing someone like Lescott at the back would be amazing he is a winner, a leader, is very vocal and is a great defender
Will be interesting to see who we get as a foreign player could take a while to get used to our league Debuchy looks to have settled in quite well but you never know
Also if Pardew does bring in new players will have the guts to drop some of his faves like if he gets a new striker will he drop Cisse or Shola taking into consideration he has probably promised Shola that he will play because he missed out on ACON?
Also if we get a centre back will he put him right in or give the slot to Taylor or Williamson??
Same with Jonas and Obertan who have not delivered if we get another wide forward will he drop either of them??
Marveux and Anita as well they do not deserve to be dropped its only when those guys go off do we lose every time

Comment #26Also can any serious tell me why Pardew loves Shola and Gutti so much. Dont get me wrong they wear heart of the shirt and i know they do care but both have no speed and shalo sometimes just looks like he does not give a toss very frustrating.

Comment #28I know we all like to post up our starting elevens and subs and that this rather harmless pastime can seem a bit simplistic but isn’t it fair criticism of Pardew that his selections betray a rather basic approach to the game we love? i know, i know… last years 1st 11 was great and could mix it up etc – but show me a competitive team that doen’t tweek itself every year to avoid becoming predictable, that doesn’t have a recognisable shape or philosophy and that doesn’t have players on the bench that can fill in without a noticeable weakening of the teams effectiveness? Sure, this purple player idea is a bit dodgy but what the hell are all these carefully selected bairns there for if not to do a job. It’s got to be the manager’s call on all these counts, surely?

The only thing th makes any sense in that silly last post Is that pardew has no idea what his best team is and has adopted lucky dips as his latest technique for team selection

Comment #34Problem is he’ll be thrown into the deep end of the most demanding league in the world, same with Debuchy and most likely any other signings.
No time to adjust and no room for failure with potentially terrible consequences in the likelihood they do. It’s an extremely precarious situation.

Comment #36while just like basically everyone, i also want Pardew out, i hope Ashley doesn’t sack him until we have a replacement wrapped up, most preferably Blanc…
on another note, am i the only one thinking we shouldn’t have this many french players? i mean look at international tournaments, when it really matters, french players don’t perform and turn on each other…

Comment #39I think Shola has been given assurances that he will be played if he did not go to ACON, I also think that playing ba down the middle was to keep Ba at the club and sign a new contract.More than likely said the same thing to Jonas to get him to sign
Pardew needs to grow a pair and play marv and anita flanking cisse.
Cabaye Perch and Bigi in the middle.
This would give us strength flair and pace up front and Perch sitting uin front of Colo Mbiwa, Santon and Debuchy.
Play your best team, its no time for loyalty, its time for tough decisions.

Comment #40This is a start, although i think our main concern should be a striker, the amount of chances Cisse fluffed yesterday was laughable. We need a goalscorer more than a defender.
