French reports are coming through saying that Newcastle have indeed wrapped up the signings of both Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa of Montpelier, and Massadio Haïdara of Nancy.
We have to hope (and pray) they are true and these are two excellent defensive reinforcements for the Magpies.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – a Newcastle player -yes!
The report is in Getfootballnewsfrance and the site is reporting 23 year-old Mapou Yanga-Miwa has been acquired for €7.5M and 20 year-old Massadio Haidra for €2.5M.
That’s about £6.2M and £2M respectively, and they seem to be two good deals for our club.
Newcastle were reported to have agreed fees for the players a day or two ago, and we hope these deals are announced tomorrow by Newcastle, and they are an excellent start – although we still need more players brought in before February.
Massadio Haïdara – a Newcastle player
This will certainly help strengthen the Newcastle defense (which needs it), and we hope that Newcastle will also announce that captain Fabrico Coloccini will stay through the summer.
That would be terrific news tomorrow – so here’s hoping.

Comment #45do you think this will be a step in potentially pushing santon further up field in the future?
for now however one thing is certain , its about time we had some cover for santon .
desperately hoping these go through tomorrow. i dont know about you lot but as much as i try to avoid this blog because it frankly depresses me everytime i look at it in the past few months , cant seem to drag myself away , ive even resorted to scouring tw@tter this window, and thats never good!
so with potentially 3 defenders wrapped up, who else do you lot think we would need to push through into league safety?

If we manage to get 5-6 quality signings after January and I see a sudden increase in form than it is a shame that we didn’t do it in the summer because we would of been flying in the league and we may not even have to make any aqusations in January and demba could of stayed.
But at least it seems we are finally making progress.

Comment #47How do u see Anita fitting in torq. His best form seemed to be when cabaye was first injured when he seemed to be pushing a little more forward.
I don’t think he is good enough for the dm role

Younes Belhanda, (a) cos’ he is creative, currently a winger but in the future will become a prolific striker so definitely one for the future and fits MAs +ward value for the future. Mkt value £9.5 so IMO an absolute steal! Think Fernabache in the chase for him, but if we got him I would be absolutely stunned. Same making and mould as HBA this lad has an amazing future ahead of him.

Comment #56Fingers crossed these two deals are made official tomorrow. Finally some cover at left back but more importantly a quality versatile defender in Mbiwa.
Get sissoko in next please! If we need to wait til the summer for the de jongs then gouffran will prob do for now, although siem and gouffran in Jan sounds much better.

Comment #57I am patiently waiting till the end of the January window to fully judge on Ashley’s commitment on NUFC. If this great piece of news todays is in fact correct and these two good players sign tomorrow it’s a huge stride in the right direction.
Please be true, I can’t take much more failure!

Comment #66Do any of yous think that with us getting the bodies in now and a couple like Sissokho and Gouffran were wanted for the summer at first, do yous think we’ll still strengthen in the summer or would yous think if we sign:
Debuchy,Sissokho,Hairairo,Mbiwa,Gouffran and Possibly Thauvin, Do yous think we’ll leave it at than unless someone leaves or buy more?

Comment #70Toon1978 – Hahaha the problem is I am like that every day and now that I think about it, even with my girlfriend I breathe, sleep, eat Newcastle United. I always try and turn anyone usually my girlfriends or non-football buddies into Newcastle Fans 🙂 Sadly the team usually embarrasses me during the induction period lol

David Henen (Anderlecht) – scored 107 goals in 3 seasons at youth level for previous club Liege, and scored 7 goals in 11 games at the youth level of the Belgium national side. A proper talent, this lad. Valued at €3mil. Impressive for a (I believe) 16yr old!!!
And
El-babacar Khouma – Fiorentina. Senegalese U21 player. 18yrs old, already broken into the Fiorentina first team. Again – somebody to really look out for. Valued estimate at €4-5mil.
The rest – I’d spend on sending Derek Lambias to finishing school to improve his interpersonal skills! 🙂

Comment #72Wolfswinkel or siem de Jong are the type of player we need. A number 10. Ben arfa is our player for it at the minute but I prefer him on the right. When he’s in the middle sometimes it’s a bit compact in there but outwide 1 on 1 with the full back is when I think he’s at his best. I also think that if colo stays then we don’t need another cb(this is given that mbiwa signs) Williamson, saylor, colo and mbiwa as our 4 main cb is decent enough in my opinion. I would prefer we signed someone of wolfswinkel or de jong type player and then a winger as well rather than a striker and a cb. Sissoko for 5 mil would be a great buy so if they’re are wanting 3.5 I’d pay that unfortunately I don’t have 3.5 million lying around to pay for him. Shame really

Comment #73Fingers crossed this is true. Mbiwa has been my first choice since we were very first linked with him. I actually couldn’t understand why we never went after him before.
Alas I do think this means that colo is on his way.
Colo and mbiwa seem very similar except mbiwa is lightening quick. My only reservation is that it will probably take him a while to adjust to out league. It would’ve better to ease him in like we did santon. Would be great if colo would stay until the end of the season.
This haidara looks cracking and if we get gouffran too ill be very happy. I don’t think he’s the calibre of a remy but he’ll definitely improve out squad.

Comment #74@GFN_France: We do understand that there are some complications with the #Haidara deal, but we anticipate they will be solved when the player arrives. Hmm. Should still go through only lose ends to tie up apparently.

Comment #79In the summer we should go all out to sign Julian Draxler. He is going to be one of the best in the world. He plays in midfield and is only 19 now but already at Schalke whom I doubt would be foolish enough to part with him- a superstar in the making.
