Some good information in the Evening Chronicle today that in the last eleven days of the transfer window, Newcastle could be bringing in up to five new players, in a last ditch attempt to strengthen a squad that should have been strengthened last summer – but wasn’t – and we are paying the price of that huge mistake by being embroiled in a relegation battle.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – signing tomorrow?
And it’s very painful for the fans – to say the least. š
Newcastle are supposed to unveil Montpelier star and captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa tomorrow ā given that Arsenal (or even QPR) don’t make a last minute move for the player – and two other squad players should be recruited.
We think one of those is Nancy left-back Massadio Haidara and maybe Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko – although his agents are meeting with QPR in London today.
And we are also being continually linked with young 19 year-old Florian Thauvin of Ā Bastia, who hasĀ beenĀ strongly linked with Arsenal over the last couple of days.
Newcastle also need to bring in a striker, with news – which we hope is true – that we are after Darren Bent of Aston Villa, although theĀ ChronicleĀ isĀ reporting two targets under consideration are young players – said to be more hungry than Bent – who doesn’t do much for the huge wages he is being paid at Aston Villa.
And a surprise to us is that we are presumably going to try to sign goalkeeper Jack Butland of Birmingham for around Ā£4M, and then loan him straight back to Lee Clark’s Birmingham City for the rest of the season, so he can get games.
So what does that mean for the future of Tim Krul – are we going to sell him in the summer – because neither player will want to warm the bench at Newcastle next season.
Alan Pardew will make another request to the Newcastle Board this morning for new recruits, when he meets with them – but it could be an interesting meeting after Newcastle lost another crucial game on Saturday – and managed to get the loss from a winning position – and at St. James’ Park tooĀ againstĀ secondĀ bottomĀ Reading.
We’ve seen how difficult it is to get new players into Newcastle this month, after famously losing out on Loic Remy – and we’ll believe it when and if it happens.
And we are supposed to announce the signing of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa tomorrow, so we hope there’s no breaking news that another club – like Arsenal or QPR for example – are after him.
If we can get five new players in the next 11 days that will be a big boost to the squad – and we hope Newcastle can do it – because it’s crucial to our success in avoiding relegation in May.

Must admit I have been more caught up in NUFC turmoil so I have ignored football on a whole…too depressing haha
Lilongwe Geordie
Does sound like a Bigi type purchase to me so maybe in the summer we will move for him cant see it being this window as we are in a urgent need for first team players/seasoned depth imo but in the summer Id imagine (if we are still in the PL of course) the aim moves back to long term building and the likes of Redmond and Thuavin would be high on the agenda

no worries…post in your own time.

Redmond would be a great signing, give him a loan for the rest of the year and see how he gets on…he is only 18 still.

I try to watch other bits and pieces or just check on league tables every now and then, see how things are going.
I’m not obsessed with football to the point where a bad game for us ruins my weekend so I am quite lucky I think that way.

Comment #88Krul has been good this season, saved us multiple times against norwich. +had some great saves vs arsenal+everton
He cant stop everything, lets be honest the defenders have hung krul out to dry. That goal yesterday (the handball one(nothing wrong with it)) wasnt kruls fault, willo was in the perfect postion to stop it and for the 2nd time that game (shot in the 1st half) completly misjudged the ball and ended up being nutmegged which left krul stranded.
Cant remeber their 2nd goal so wont comment on that lol.

Comment #93Skysports report that we have alunched a bit for Gouffran. That’s the best news i’ve heard, lets hope we go aherad with it. If that’s the case then letsa not bother with Bent if he’s going to ask for loads of wages. Another idea.. Billy Sharp from forest. He’s a goalscorer, why is nooone in for him? Siem de jong sounds like a defo aswell.

Comment #95geordiesteve520… Good news? Hm not in my eyes, it just means that qpr will likely step up their pursuits of sissoko, as we all know they have the money for stupid wages.

Comment #99Harry Redknapp is clearly a HUGE fan of Graham Carr. It’s brilliant really. He knows that he is the best scout in the industry and particularly in France and he knows he can outbid Newcastle every time so he justs rides on our coat tails and gets access to Graham Carr’s scouting talent for free.
You’ve got to admit it’s genius. Frickin annoying for us… but nevertheless genius!

Didn’t mean definitely as in we’re signing him, but a definite that we need to go in quick for him. I think we’ll have one big signing and a few other relatively good ones, with Siem being the biggun, (moneywise)

Comment #108Dont honestly rate Gouffran that highly, journalists in france think he is a player that will find it easier in the premier league than ligue 1, which is what they said about remy as in france all defences drop deep and there is play is slow, hes very pacy and suits quicker play and can run behind defenders! For ā¬1m tho he is a steal and noteably better than what we have! Whoever gouffran plays upfront with usually gets goals, hes a good team player

Top class centre half young and has leadership qualities. Good on the ball, pace, puts Williamson to shame, must-buy! fingers crossed Arsenal stay away.
Haidara – Ā£2.5
Yound LB which would be much needed competition for santon, not much to say, would welcome his signature.
Sissoko – Ā£3m
Accomplished box to box player, I think we need, with tiote being away and out of form anyways i think we need more top quality options, for me a must-buy. QPR sniffing around but rumours say he favours an nufc move (can only hope this is enough)
Gouffran – Ā£850,000
Pacey, good on the ball, gets a few goals. Not prolofic but is the Striker/winger we’re after at a very very good price, get him in.
I think we should go and get these done and give the place a bit of a boost, and give the squad much needed strengthening, Mbiwa would be the most significant signing, will make Williamson look like a schoolboy. Will be delighted if we get these and think we’ll find some form if we do.

Comment #114One thing I would say is we have a lot of pokers in the fire at present and Id assume a lot of them are either or targets
Torq mentioned awhile ago we were looking at a young GK to come in and push Krul and now links to Butland have appeared its going to be a wait and see affair unfortunately
It does imply, considering the various positions of the players linked, we are looking to bring in multiple players though which can only be a good thing

Comment #115Looizallan – fair enough mate! An I agree! That’s a marquee signing should it ever happen.
Jay – I agree. At that price we would be mad to turn our back on it. Seems odd though that we have supposedly made a bid and its become so public so fast – part of me wonders of its to take watching eyes off of our real target!?

Yo – it certainly appears that way! Which is why it frustrates me when we get linked with a player and instantly it’s ‘to replace a current player’ ie Haidara to replace santon etc.
The link I heard was with Ali Ahamada but as we say, it shows that the irons in the fire are trying to strengthen the squad as a whole. Just need sufficient backing to achieve that.
