There has been news over the weekend that Newcastle have agreed an €8M fee with Montpelier for French international defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, and the Frenchman is due to fly in to discuss personal terms and hopefully have a medical.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – will Arsenal move for him at the last minute?
But guess what – there are rumors that Arsenal may make a last minute move for the Frenchman – and we know they’ve been interested in him for a while now, and we mentioned their interest over the weekend.
Didn’t something like that happen with a certain player from Marseilles who ended up at QPR last week?
And let’s face it Newcastle do not have the drawing power of an Arsenal – although we thought we had a lot more of it than that small club in London.
Yanga-Mbiwa is only 23, and he has proved himself a good and versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back four – and would be a great acquisition for Newcastle.
But like Newcastle, Arsenal have been looking closely at the three times capped French International for over a year now – and the story is being reported in the Daily Mirror – and it could even be credible.
And it seems anything is possible in this transfer market, given what happened a week ago with Loic Remy.
And the news that the Frenchman is a replacement for Coloccini, and who will therefore leave the club tomorrow, doesn’t hold too much water – since we were going after a center-back last summer, never mind just in January.
And if another disaster happens - and Colo is allowed to leave the club – heaven forbid – then we need to bring in another center-back – but whether we can do that in January is rather doubtful.
This story could simply be made up – because of Arsenal’s definite interest in Yanga-Mbiwa in the past – but it’s up to Newcastle to not get gazumped for a second time in just over a week, and we need to get this guy over the line as soon as possible.
Another transfer loss like Loic Remy would be another disaster for Newcastle in January.
Comments welcome.

This isn’t true Wenger buying a CB unlikely?? Plus he said already they won’t do nout in January.

Re-post
m just saying, he has enough experience as a player and knows about having a healthy team environment, his success as a manager dictates that.
Lets look at Brendan Rodgers, didnt have much experience as a manager. Coached Watford, Reading in a space of a year, Went to Swansea, got them promoted and secured their survival in the PL. Went to L’pool, see how well they are doing.
Some managers have the ‘IT” factor and Paul Tisdale is one of the rare ones

Dont think Arsenal will hijack this transfer. If they do, they we are doomed
7 pbandj // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:07 AM
Common, we can’t start crying everytime someone goes for one of our transfer targets. Remy had been closely watched by Arry for ages. The same is the case for Arsenal-Mbiwa, its the agents jobs to stimulate competition for a player and we can only do so much. Even Nufc have tried to hijack transfers just 2 years ago when we tried to get ruiz over the line after he was pretty much wrapped up by fulham. Thats just how the cookie crumbles. We are going for one of frances most highly rated young defenders of course there will be competition!
8 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:08 AM
In all fairneess the gunners have been tracking him just as long as us, same goes for most of our french striker targets

#pardewout I’m agreed but not sure how many wud like to come cos of transfer budgets and selling policiy. On the other hand massive following, great stadium and facilities and a squad all fit that should be top 8-9.(BA gone)
BLANC and MATTEO wud be nice Blanc preferrably Matteo had a woeful defense with brom. Wouldn’t mind Lucien Favre or wud be over the moon if we could tempt Frank De Boer.(unlikely).

Im glad we didnt sign Gervinho. Wouldve been a waste of money
13 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:12 AM
Gervinho doesnt know when/how to pass, hes a more skillful version Obertan

Think the best ashely will do tho is curbishley. Which probably is an improvement on pardew.

Oh dear Ed – a panicky editorial again. Yet the BBC are tweeting Mbia is due for a medical at St. James today (Monday) Go and have a lie down Ed. Stay cool man !
PS If anyone from the Club are reading this – how about a total news blackout on transfers – just let us know when you’ve signed somebugger eh !
16 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:15 AM
Glad to hear Paul Tisdale linked. It’ll be good to have someone in charge who can string a thought together.
17 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:15 AM
Are people not worried about what they are learning in training? how many corners do we earn, and how many do we score….. on the opposite side aswell how many goals have we let in from corners or deep crosses…
18 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:18 AM
@banjax, several people from the club have said, its almost impossible to keep a ”blackout” on a transfer due to agents trying to up the price. Although if they moved swiftly earlier in the window with decent offers both price and wages then i think we could have bagged our targets with ease
19 NUFC STEVE // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:19 AM
True ZERO that’s why we want him out. Also add bad formation, style of play and team selection and you have a brief description of pardwhos main qualities

has pards been sacked from every manager job hes had?
21 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:23 AM
Btw Zero, why are you glad we didn’t sign a more skillful version of Obertan?
22 hadthetshirt // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:24 AM
I wanted Curbishley and we got pard who.Now I think it;s crazy If we sack him.We gotta stick together, time for him to go is summer not now.
All this crap for Zola and Di Matteo is crap,if we change we need Le Blanc, the other 2 no way.
23 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:25 AM
because id rarther have neither, personally i think obertan is one of around 4-5 ”purple” players that need shipping out, add that to our lack of ‘decent’ youth players/benchers and its pretty bloody bleak on our squad front. But if i was to choose id take Gervo over Obertan, im not sure how much either cost so, can i truely compare them??

Why not?? did well with no money and top chep
28 toonLYF // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:29 AM
He would be the signing of the window. He is absolutely immense, along with Raphael Varane i’d say he one of the best centre back prospects in europe.
He is so good technically at football, you could see him being a terrific midfielder aswell, but his incredible maturity and knowledge of the game gives him a rare edge over other young centre backs. Special player i reckon.
29 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:29 AM
Zero – fair enough. Does Obertan count as a “purple”? Were f**ked if he does!
30 nick_9 // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:30 AM
Zero – I wonder all the time. Set pieces are poor, still making defensive errors, standard of play hasn’t approved. We played good pass and move football in several games over Christmas but since Ba left the link up hasn’t been as good. We don’t have goals in the team and rarely practice shooting in the warm up befor the game when other teams do.
Reading 2 shots on goal and 2 goals, I witnessed the whole team spend ten minutes shooting before the game. We only has cisse and only him, cabaye and obertan hit the target.
31 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:30 AM
Le blanc is a really good manager, but you need to look at this objectively, him and HBA dont get along… hes lost total control over dressing rooms before.
De Matteo has his ear bent too much by the players, could end up with a bad situation, plus he’ll most likely want a decent budget to sign players with.
32 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:31 AM
hts – mmm, not sure. Maybe i just don’t like to think of our club in the same way as Charlton Athletic. Maybe i’m “deluded”.
33 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:34 AM
@Eddie, Obertan i dont think is a purple, but he is one of Pards signings and one of his favs so i think that lifts him to purple status, similar situation with guti.. no way should he be purple but he his…
34 RonVanDam // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:35 AM
@Zero – 16
I bet they are assigned special training programmes at Benton. Oberton on Sprints and Jona’s runs a marathon around the grounds
35 Mister Tuff // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:36 AM
I was just reading about Curbishley when he joined West Ham. He insisted that his contract contained a clause saying that he would have the final say of who left and came into the club. The club subsequently sold players without asking him -he left and took them to court for “constructive dismissal”. He won and was awarded £2.2 million. I doubt whether Percy Parsnip has such a clause in his contract somehow.
36 hadthetshirt // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:36 AM
Oh and not a puppett either.I knew we were not gonna get Mourinho,Guardiola ,Blanc,,Scolari,Hiddink,Van Gaal,or Hizfeld, not dreaming but Curbs did a good job. Also knows more about tic tacs,or is that tactics than pard who

i know for a fact that aint true, guti is always blindfolded before hes set loose running so he can truely run ‘aimlessly’ and free lol
38 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:39 AM
To be honest, i don’t like to focus on players’ limitations. Obertan surely could improve/become more aggressive and Jonas, well, he’s been exemplary up until this season – maybe his legs have gone, not sure, but he’s certainly given to the cause.
39 hadthetshirt // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:41 AM
Eddie just trying to be realistic mate.We all have opinions.I would hate another Joke in here kinda guy.Hence I feel sacking pard who bad move just now.If ashley sacked him who do you think he would get.It will be cheap and nasty that’s for sure.

1.Laurent Blanc
2.Frank De Boer(won’t happen)
3.Lucien Favre
4. Matteo
5.Curbs
6. Tisdale
Wouldn’t mind any of the top four but couldn’t see any of them taking the risk of relegating us and having to manage a championship team.
42 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:43 AM
I suppose Curbs comes in the “cheap and nasty” bracket.
43 RonVanDam // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:43 AM
Oberton and Jonas should start training for the 2016 Olympics. We could have 2 gold medallist in our team. Imagine how much money we’ll make when MA decides to sell them
44 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:43 AM
Eddie your right, certainly with Jonas, yes in the past he has certainly helped a shed load, but both him, Shola, Willo and Simmo simply are not up to standard and certainly not what we need in a dog fight. Shola should have gone into coaching last year, i love the guy for what hes done for us and hope he has a chance to impart his mackemslaying wisdom into our raw recruits
45 RonVanDam // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:45 AM
NUFC STEVE
If we somehow get relegated then its Tisdale for me.
46 NUFC STEVE // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:49 AM
Possibility of Ashely trying to piss his nemesis Dave Whelan off and get in ROBERTO MARTINEZ. Plays great football with shite players. Terrible at the back but it’s prob because he can’t waste any money he gets on defenders.
47 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:50 AM
Well, i’ve already been critical of Shola’s supposed “wisdom” so i won’t talk about him! Am i the only one who still believes that a manager actually does something in real terms? I’m properly peeved that Pardew wasn’t replaced two months ago. Dammit – is it wrong to ask for better things?
48 veto // Jan 21, 2013 at 1:52 AM

50 Special K // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:02 AM
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m behind Pardew and 100% for stability in a relegation fight however if we were to change it has to be to Laurent Blanc, no other realistic alternative offers an upgrade on Pardew.
51 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:03 AM
But isn’t Martinez Wigan through and through? Never mind Whelan despising the Fat Controller.
52 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:04 AM
SK – what?! Do you really rate Pardew that highly?
53 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:05 AM
Pardew wont be sacked until after the transfer window, getting rid of him now would make it almost impossible to bring players in.
54 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:06 AM
Best solution really would be to bring someone in to help or guide Pardew in the right direction.
55 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:07 AM
True GAZ, as long as he is sacked once it shuts i’ll be happy.
56 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:09 AM
!!!!Bring someone in to HELP our manager?!!!! What madness is this?! Just bring someone in to replace him.
57 GeordieAnt // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:10 AM
Seems Cabaye isn’t injured after all. It was simply a misunderstanding apparently. He was signaling that he was tired, and was worried about straining his groin, Pardew simply took it as him being injured, hence the post match interview.

58 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:11 AM
It’s a toss up between Blanc and Tisdale for me.
59 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:12 AM
I think a lot of Pardew’s bad management is down to the staff he has working with him, i really don’t rate any of them, i think a change of staff would be better than a change of manager.
60 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:12 AM
GA – so we don’t need to worry then?
61 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:14 AM
No way would Blanc come and work with us plus no way would Ashely hirer him, as for Tisdale that would be a HUGE gamble and i don’t think the players would really back him either.
62 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:15 AM
GAZ – i mean this question seriously: what is it about Pardew that makes you want to see him stay on?
63 GeordieAnt // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:16 AM
We don’t have to worry about him being injured…however we have plenty of other things to worry about. Lol. I’m torn between replacing Pardew and keeping him, so I’ve been choosing not to join in with discussions, because honestly I don’t know what I’d do. I think Pardew IS a good manager, I mean…you don’t turn crappy over night, and I doubt it’s possible for a manager to be so lucky that he manages to finish in the top 5. However, I personally would prefer Blanc as manager due to the fact like many have said before me, an international manager may suit the players we have currently when it comes to tactics etc. Like I said…torn.
64 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:16 AM
@Gaz, i posted this before but ill post it again here:
”we carnt sack pards because we are mid transfer window, noone will come” is complete horse crap… how about this for size ”people wont come to a club with an useless manager and a team in complete free fall”.
I think if there was a hint of Le Blanc or someone similar coming to the club then i really dont think it would matter if pards was sacked, in fact id think itd help… shows commitment to a new start and ambition
65 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:23 AM
You dont go from manager of the year to complete muppet for no reason, you have to surly give him a fair chance with a fully fit squad and a few new signings which we all knew was needed back in the summer, most managers under these circumstances wouldn’t have done much better, i would say he needs to be given until the end of February by then new players would have gelled and players back from injuries should be in the groove too.
66 remember69 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:23 AM
The last thing we need is to swap managers again. It has been proven that there is a greater chance of success with stability. For toss that fall back on AP being sacked from earlier jobs – don’t forget that Alex Ferguson was sacked from St Mirren and there were calls for him to be sacked early in his Man Utd career.
The manager is always an easy target, but for those who feel hey need a change of face perhaps we can persuade Joe f&$’n Kinnear to return.
67 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:24 AM
What makes everyone think Blanc would come here? and what makes you all think Ashley would hire him?
68 remember69 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:25 AM
Gaz09 -
69 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:28 AM
GA – the problem with managers is that it’s a slippery profession and perhaps not even primarily a technical one.
So i think it’s not so much a question of Pards turning crappy overnight any more than he turned brilliant overnight last season. Both cases are undoubtedly influenced by luck. But to be frank, i’m not worried by the technical abilities of our squad: what disturbs me is their lack of organisation on the field – which, to me, signals a managerial failure.
70 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:29 AM
Whats hurt us so bad this season is not being able to field a regular team for more that 2 games!
71 remember69 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:30 AM
Gaz09 – good to see someone thinking before they post. What’s all the buzz about LeBlanc? So we are pinning our hopes on a manger that has no EPL experience, over the guy voted manager of he season? I understand the desire for he ‘new manager’ affect, but do we really feel this will work long term?
72 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:30 AM
This “wait for a fully fit squad” talk is baloney! it’s the exception rather than the rule.
73 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:32 AM
I don’t want a “new manager effect”. I want an effective new manager.
74 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:33 AM
So what Gaz is saying is our manager is a brillant manager but only with a fully fit squad?? yeah signs of greatness that, put it this way if Pards keeps us going in the same direction we could almost be odds on cert to be relegated by Feb.
75 p // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:33 AM
Our failings are not down to one thing this season but having a mediocre manager is one of them and now he really seems to have lost the plot
76 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:34 AM
@67
Like i said a lot of it is down to his staff, yeah Pardew is the tactical mind of the operation but as you mentioned technical abilities his staff train the players too.
77 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:35 AM
I suppose if Pardew managed a fully fit Barcelona squad he’d be as good as Pep and Tito!
78 remember69 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:36 AM
Zero – good point about the LeBlanc / HBA angle. So we bring in a manager with absolutely no EPL experience and undoubtably lose HBA. Sorry, but I’m having trouble getting my head around the logic.
79 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:37 AM
Gaz. pards chose to alter a winning formation to suit one player in an attempt to keep him at the club, it didnt work both in winning games or keeping the player = his fault
he has made some serious hash ups when it has came to subs again = his fault
he has fielded completely inept squads even when purple players are fit = his fault
we are on our worst run in EPL history = mostly his choices = mostly his fault
80 SydToon // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:38 AM
Sick of Pardew and his excuses.
Sick of Ashley and his Minions Derek and Lee showing no ambition.
Sick of an owner who is less concerned with performance off the pitch then on it.
Had high hopes at the begining of the season when we beat Spurs and had hoped that win would make ashley realise that with the right investment we could have really kicked on.
If we had added some decent players we could have been fighting for the top four.
At the begining of the season I was sure we had a better Starting XI then Liverpool all we needed was Debuchy Mbwia and Remy and I have no Doubt we would be fighting for the top 4 Right now, Demba would have been more likely to stay with quality players around him and the club showing ambition.
Instead we are struggling to convince our targets to join and that Newcastle is an ambitious club.
Time for Ashley to sell up, Surley we can find someone out there that has some ambition for the club other than profit! We have all the ingredients to be very marketable worldwide yet we need to slowly build like spurs have.
How is it possible that we lose:
Danny Guthrie
Peter Lovenkrands
Leon Best
Alan Smith
Fraser Forster
and only bring in Vurnon Anita in a season where we knew we were playing Europa League.
Where did the money of smith wages that we thought was gonna free up a lot of room on the wage book gone?
Where was at least one replacement for the two forwards we lost?
Why hasn’t Sol Campbell’s slot been replaced from a while back?
All ashley does it throw out this spin that we will be well placed for Financial Fair Play etc, my arse we wont even be in the premier league, and the FFP seems to be a bit of a farce anyway as you can have losses for the first few years and we are not even gonna be in a competition where we could be punished as we wont be in europa or champs so that is all crap!!
We need a owner that matches the ambitions of the players the coach and most importantly the fans!
81 Zero // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:39 AM
@76 We are going to lose HBA anyway in the summer, hes pretty much came out and said hes leaving if things dont dramatically change and with AP at the wheel can you see them changing… they havnt in half a season…
82 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:40 AM
People just need to calm down a bit, i really don’t believe we will go down, hopefully Mbwia in tomorrow then ST shortly to add some competition up front, and then a decent run of playing the same team week in week out and we’ll be fine, mark my words.
83 p // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:46 AM
Gaz, have you seen the fixtures after villa?
84 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:47 AM
FFP will probably take a decade to have an equalising effect. in the mean time, we’re gonna see other clubs, run as rich men’s playthings, outbid us for players. this is why a
genuine football philosophy is so desperately needed – hell, the NE has produced some of the finest footballing artists that this country has ever known!
85 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:47 AM
Yes, Chelsea at home then Spurs away, why?
86 Eddie // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:50 AM
GAZ – where do you get your confidence from?
87 p // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:50 AM
Very little chance of points there if we continue in the same path. If we get nothing at villa that could very easily be another 9 points dropped.
88 remember69 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:52 AM
Eddie, we have to judge a manager by the players he has at his disposal. I think even Pep & Tito would struggle with the injuries and lack of squad depth. I was personally proud of the way the lads performed against Man U which was essentially a 2nd string. I’m fine knocking a manager where it’s warranted, but as others have said you don’t become a bad manager overnight.
I may or may not be an AP fan, but feel on how he and the team over performed last season judgement should be reserved until he can put out his best team I something close.
89 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:54 AM

I’m sorry, but didn’t we have our “best team” out at the start of the season? I just don’t buy this “wait til everyone’s back” line – demba’s gone, so he won’t be back; saylor missed most of last season, so colo and willo are the dream team that served us so well last year but have been totally found out this season; and anyway, this is football, you can’t even rely on a first 18 never mind a first 11 being available week in week out!
94 GAZ09 // Jan 21, 2013 at 2:59 AM
My biggest criticism of Pardew is giving Williamson far too many chances personally i would have gave his place to Tavernier along time ago, also Shola should never start a game, Shola is at his best when used as a sub.

We have probably played the WORST football in the whole league this season
Look at that line-up vs Reading good enough to win, lots of good players the manager isn’t getting them to play
He takes too long to drop his faves, marveaux shouldve been in the team long ago and now he subs him off!
Like 2nd Prem year at west ham when he wouldnt play mashcerano and tevez
98 messi_is_king // Jan 21, 2013 at 3:08 AM

yes AP has had a lot of injurys but he should still have done alot better with what he has got instead of 2 points of relagation like we are now the backbone of the side is mostly hughten and carr scouting anyway end of the day AP has not got the best track record when it comes to footbal manergment it just seems he been givan way to much time by MA when any other manerger would of been sacked by now
100 SydToon // Jan 21, 2013 at 3:15 AM
Ashley’s experiment of not having a squad and filling it with kids that if loaned out would probably only be accepted by League One Sides or Lower :
Sammy – League One
Fergie – Maybe small club Championship
Bigi has done well
Vuckic was promising yet injuries arrived
Amalfitano needs time playing but he is not ready for the prem
Curtis Good – Currently loaned to a league Two outfit.
Has been an epic faliure!!
In order to save a few pennies and hope that the kids would come good and he wouldnt have to spend on proper first team players in unnaceptable! I dont mind giving the kids a chance but they have to be ready and the only lads for me that were/are ready were Bigi and Haris. Ashley is too busy chasing pennies when there are dollars to be made. We have probably ruined the careers of many of these young guys because we have thrown them in too early. I do sympathise with Pardew because he wasn’t given an adequate squad to cope with the demnads this season has thrown up, however his excuses and acceptance of mediocraity gets on my nerves!
101 messi_is_king // Jan 21, 2013 at 3:33 AM
SydToon- disagree slightly, look at Villa their first XI are kids nevermind the back up players
Pardew just isn’t the man to bring them on he isn’t getting much out of our players atall, he wont get them to play
Sammy Fergie and Bigi have potential. I think people are judging Sammy too much by his surname he has ability he played well in the Europa league
102 SydToon // Jan 21, 2013 at 3:44 AM
Fair play Messi, but Villa have been known as a factory for producing top talent, we couldn’t even get our academy to be listed in category one. We have produced Carroll Krul and Taylor in the last few years and that’s about it for a while. I do like Sammy and Fergie my point was just that they aren’t being used correctly and that they are not ready to be playing for NUFC on a regular basis. They would all benefit greatly from some time out on loan in the lower leagues. Yet they are being forced to play in the Prem without having every really played against men! And that we are expecting them to come on and turn a game round, which is unfair but that is because they simply are not ready.

But I will still support the lads and wear my shirt with pride.
131 Spuggy // Jan 21, 2013 at 8:12 AM
So Pardew lied about Cabaye did he, strange but Cabaye doesn’t think so…
Cabaye, however, loyally defended his manager. “The fans were very angry but they did not realise I needed to come off,” he said. “They should not blame the manager for that. It was my decision. I was also feeling tired. You cannot expect a player to be 100 per cent in my situation. I was not fit enough to finish the game. That was why I came off.
“It is unfair to blame the manager when it was me who made the decision. I was afraid about my groin. I have come back from surgery and did not want to get pain again. I am not worried now because I came off. I think I will be all right.
“I asked to come off because my groin became tight. I didn’t want to take any risks on my first start for so long. I have come back much earlier than was planned. The pitch was very heavy. I think it was the right decision for me.
“When I came off it did not occur to me that we would lose the game. In this league you can’t afford to relax for one moment. It only takes a few seconds to win a game. Reading turned it around.
“What happened today we couldn’t foresee and we are all bitterly disappointed. In the first half I thought we played well, had many chances to score and win the game. In the second half we lacked some energy to push on and score that vital second goal.
“The confidence is a lot lower to what it was when I was last in it. There is a difference. It is low. That means we need to stick together to keep our heads up because we are in a bad position now. We must stay calm because there are a lot of games still to play. We must work hard and fight every week to get the points we need to stay in the Premier League. That is what is most important.”

The hatred of Alan Pardew, a man who got us to 5th and a return to Europa is nothing short of disgusting on here.
Yes he is under pressure of course, and he has to turn this round. But he also works with one of the most shocking boards football has ever seen, I dread to think what he has to put up with. Lack of funds, support, no involvement in negotiations with players. How frustrating must it be for the board to wait until we’re in this mess then go buy the players we so sorely needed in the summer. We’ve needed a CB for years.
The jury is still out for me – he needs 2-3 quality players NOW, before the next game, then see how the next 3-4 games go. If no improvement, then fair enough it’s time to make that decision.
But right now what the manager and players need is our support, as supporters. Turning up and booing at villa will only consign us to relegation.
The stuff I’m reading on here about pards being a liar is absolute bullsh*t – you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Didn’t post over the weekend
I will defend the subbing of cabaye yesterday, he was carrying a niggle/tightening up and cannot be risked as he is crucial.
The subbing of marvoux was disgraceful though. Pardew must have known cabaye would struggle in his first start for months so should have left marvoux on, just in case cabaye had to come off.
If he needed us to get more control he should have subbed shola for perch/bigi…another body in midfield but we’d still have that creative edge.
He is currently hammering the nails into his own coffin…..I said i’d judge him at the end of the season but he is making it very difficult to trust him until then and I wouldn’t be shocked or feel he is being harshly treated if he was let go now.

Booing after a game is fine in my opinion…let the players/manager/board know its not good enough…not keen on booing a substitution as what confidence does that give the player coming on…even if it’s not directed at him.
I’d say pardew is annoying blaming the fans for creating a negative atmosphere and saying the players react to it….it works both ways….poor subs and overly defensive trying to cling onto a lead will wind up the fans and his negativity makes us fans negative which is then passed to the players.

I am not currently calling for pardews head.
However I think we could get a better manager, a lot of continental clubs work under similar conditions, have no money, have a controlling owner who buys them players or a director of football who signs players. So there would be plenty interest from european managers I think.
And I get what you mean by careful what you wish for, we could get another joe kinnear, etc….but sometimes swapping a manager works….chelsea sacked AVB and with the same players di matteo won FA cup and champs league….spurs sacked rednapp and now are doing well under AVB.
There are a lot of examples where changing a manager does work….just as there examples that it doesn’t.

I would still like the board to do their bit to make this situation more tenable as I don’t think firing him now will prove anything other than the board want someone to just pass the blame to.
Much like I was disgusted with the sacking of hoots, I would be if Pardew was fired now.
On fans of this site, I do understand where the negativity comes from, things are looking bleak indeed. However, it isn’t helped when they will take any point and twist it to suit their argument…such as Cabaye was fine, he ran off the field! Yeh I missed the first half but caught the 2nd, only saw highlights so couldn’t really comment which is why I didn’t say anything over the weekend.
I think fans can change a club, we all saw how protests manager to see off liverpool’s owners and bring in a better one.
But you see the negatives of booing mid game, chelsea boo benitez and cheer di matteo, they have a shocking record at home under Rafa and that can’t be helped buy the fans, therefore booing mid game isn’t really beneficial to the side.
169 Spuggy // Jan 21, 2013 at 8:35 AM
So we’re hanging pardew on the basis of one subjectively bad decision to sub Marveaux and try to add resilience to a midfield which since half time was being overun????
Cabaye was unfortunate – but perch is a cracking player if you want to shore things up.
Most of you on here act like we came out 2nd half playing like barcelona – we didn’t we were playing terribly, probably partly due the the fact that cabaye was starting to feel his groin and was worried and tentative (I would be).
People also talk about the anita sub for obertan (80 mins) – another sensible sub to try to get some momentum and pace going – how is that negative?? Anita was tiring and without cabaye and marv had little chance to dominate midfield at that point, the obvious outlet was the wing.
The lose of cabaye in my opinion had the biggest impact on the game – we haven’t played well without him much at all this season, he is that influential.

I was trying to say just that over the weekend, of course fans have power, but surely there are ways to do it rather than boo mid game which does have an adverse effect on the players…rightly or wrongly.

Cabaye was NEVER gonna last the full 90 anyway, and would not have liked him to last.
He is crucial to the team now and must be handleed with care.
Again looking on the positive side.
The world and their dog seen that Shola and Gutti are not good enough for our side. Obertan is terrible and a one trick pony.
CABAYE was outstanding from start until the point he went off. Inspirational even.
I would tie him down on longer term deal and smash the wage structure for that bloke alone. Build the team around him and him only.
180 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jan 21, 2013 at 8:43 AM
My problem with the substitution of Marvo was when Perch came on he went straight into the defence playing as part of a flat back five which left a huge gap infront of our defence which Reading exploited.
Pardew went to hold what he had – that against a team that had not won away from home this season.
181 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2013 at 8:43 AM
Agree with cabs being captain should colo go today. He has the right attitude. Hopefully he’s up for a season in the championship.
182 Tsunki // Jan 21, 2013 at 8:43 AM
Ok cabaye was the difference but if the subs are good enough stick to your style. We started punting it again when they put their 2nd half spurt on. Dire performance relly. Weak on our left side still, that’s been the story all season.

got to agree that the marvoux sub was poor…if we are being over ran we then need another body in midfield (shola or cisse off) this allows us to be more defensively solid but means we still have players on who can keep the ball which is just as important to relieve pressure.
I’m not saying pardew has to go for this reason, I’m not calling for his head.
but those who are calling for his head have a lot more than just this to shout about…I back the man and even I am beginning to question a lot of what he does.
I will say though that with our current squad, hopefully another 2-3 coming in we will survive and still have a decent squad that with 3-4 summer additions could easily be up around 4/5th.
It requires the board to invest in the right players at the right time and also for pardew to learn from the mistakes he has made…i’m sure he is capable of this….wish he would hire a new coach to help him though.

185 Scottishmag1 // Jan 21, 2013 at 8:47 AM
I for one, will continue to back Pardew for now, everyone makes the odd error in which he has admitted. I would be more concerned at the poor defending that cost us the two goals in particular the second. Santon did nor get anywhere near the lad to the header back across, Jonas turned his back on the player who admittedly scuffed the ball left and then to add insult to injury, Perchino of all players stopped and allowed the lad to find the corner!!
I have missed only one game this season (Maritimo) away and trust me I am as frustrated as everyone on this blog but changing manager at this time is not the right thing to do…………experience tells us that continued change of manager is only moving the problem not resolving it.
Expanding the squad is the answer, i would be very surprised if that message has not been received loud and clear by the Board.
186 TorqToon // Jan 21, 2013 at 8:47 AM
Tsunki – another reason why we need Massadio Haidara in my opinion.
Move sant’s to LW and Haidara in at LB. shore up that backline massively and allow santon to make those pressing runs forward.
But yes – Mbiwa to sign today/tomorrow
– Colo to stay or a replacement identified
– Haidara to sign
– Tie down Sissoko
Do all this – we are in good shape squad wise. Just need to pick up some bloody points!

I agree cabaye wasn’t going to finish the 90….unless he was risked which would be suicide at the moment.
My point was that if we knew he would struggle to finsih 90 mins, surely pardew, the medics and cabaye himself knew it would be impossible. Therefore the subbing off of marvoux meant that when cabaye would have to come off 10-15mins later then we would have no creative player who could keep the ball.

Didn’t marveaux have a knock too? The problem isn’t in taking off creative players, its simply not having any game changers on the bench. We need players dammit!

I have faith…I heard this would be the window where we have pushed for transfers the most…I heard this in december and pardew said the same last week.
I remain confident 2-3 more will arrive.
193 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:01 AM
The main reason I am not ready to sack pardew…
He is starting to learn. He has us playing some decent passing stuff over the past 4/5 games without our full strength team.
We have shown we can get back to the success of the end of last year I think, when players are back.
What can Pardew do with the defence, willo made a mistake but he hasn’t got anyone better to bring in so he has to play. Santon, for all I love his forward runs, he is leaving the team so exposed by leaving his position…another place we don’t have a player to cover who is better.
Yesterday man utd were under pressure and had rooney, hernandez, valencia on their bench.
We had ranger, obertan, perch, bigi….what can they really do coming on…not a lot.
194 STB // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:02 AM
I cannot believe that the club would be unprofessional enough to get caught out by the same ploy twice.
Non Disclosure Agreements can be agreed with players, agents & clubs so that all details can be agreed before it gets out.
Pretty sure this is what happened with Cissé. Obviously not the case with Rémy.
I hope it is the case with MBiwa although given Arsenal’s defence with the exception of Vermalen, Mbiwa would get a game pretty quickly. He would obviously prefer to go there so if there is the slightest sniff I’m sure the agents and Mbiwa will be on to it like a shot.
I suspect we will end up with a desperation move for a Scott Dann type player who has a bit of PL experience and I doubt we will manage to get a sttriker in better than Danny Graham so we might as well go for him. He is a better option than Shola who should be a 30 min impact sub not playing 90 minutes.
195 cestriasteve // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:02 AM
Torq, is this guy going to adapt to the pace of the EPL ? would a fit Steven Taylor not be a better option, I take it the reserve game is off tonight so he cant make a run out pre the Villa Game. Sissoko is the man who will make ALL the difference in the middle we MUST sign him !!
196 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:02 AM
PPB…Well don’t bother turning up then.
Mark….That’s my thinking too. It’s all well and good saying leave the creative players on, but they’re often the ones that tire quickest. We need options from the bench and whilst I’m not Obertans biggest critic, he’s hardly a game changer like Marv or Cabaye.
197 catchy in norway // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:05 AM
as far as im concernd the guy lied to try and cover the big hole he just dug,,
yes , i was not expecting cabaye to last 90 mins, but the mistake was he should have subed cabaye first , he chose to take a fully fit guy off, for no reason,,
pardew chose to say cabaye was injured, then back tracked when he thought shit,, if i say he is injured , then i shouldnt use him in the next game and i need him
the guy dosnt think before he speaks
i guess the plan was to take him off at some point, very sensible,, why marv???
he f’d up
he went defensive
198 Tsunki // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:05 AM
I think its possible to get haidara and sissoko in its up to ashley to lose this by all accounts.
If we had a decently organised defence we would not have to resort to ‘defending as a team /unit’ our back line would just cope, which would mean our midfield would not have to shrink back and leave holes in the middle where our wide men fall into, and leave the sides exposed. Thankfully Debs has enough experience to not let that happen his corner was solid. If simmo had been playing they probably would have had more, sorry to bash that one but – am glad for at least one constructive signing. Now nail these other lads down and look to next season. Be nice to finish above the mackems, I don’t think I am asking for much.
199 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:08 AM
Right, didn’t post over the weekend, but by the looks of things haven’t missed much.
Pardew made an error in the Marveaux sub, and having made that compounded it in his choice of replacement for Cabaye. Had he brought a more creative force on then I don’t think there would have been to much too complain about re his subs.
But, the result puts him under massive pressure. I can’t see the board sacking him now, although it wouldn’t surprise me if we made a change in the summer. On that note, whoever brought up Tisdale failed to mention he also took Exeter down last season. I struggle to see who would come in now to turn things around, it is to much of a gamble for any top or even young potential managers who may see their reputation tarnished with a relegation on the CV.
Signings wise, let’s get Mbiwa over that bloody line and quickly. His agent in Germany told the Journal he knew nothing of any deal, and had no idea what English and French Journos were on about. Hopefully, that is him doing the opposite of Remys agents as he wants the NUFC deal done. Following that, lets get Haidara done, and a striker/winger. If we also tied up a deal for Sissoko, either now, or for the summer then excellent.
Colocini is key to the above, we need another centre half if he goes, and there are rumours flying about that local businesses will stump up the fee for him to go back. If that happens, I would sacrifice other deals to secure a centre back. Obviously would prefer it to be as well, but I feel 4 is already a tad optimistic.
Finally, Ranger should just pack his bags and leave. Whether I agree with the booing or not, he has no right to call out fans and tell them to stay away, or not buy tickets if they boo. The club have stood by him, I don’t care if we have to pay him off, he is an odious little toe rag, and the club would be better off binning him and stepping Campbell up.

If other clubs want other clubs to come in for their player why would they agree to a non-disclosure agreement with us? It’s ok if we want it but other clubs might not, and if we want their player we need to play by their rules.

I know what you mean but marvoux is a top player for us. He keeps the ball well and that helps slow down the opposition, they can’t attack us if we keep the ball.
players like perch, bigi, obertan, jonas…all give the ball away often which then puts us right on the back foot again.
Pardew is very limited with what he can bring off the bench though.

why not on 65 mins , say right cabaye,, im not going to risk you any more,, and why a defensie sub?
he came out afterwards and told everyone, he thought cabaye was injured,,
cabaye ran off, straight down the tunnel,
he was trying to shut up shop

I did miss the first half and only caught highlights….which looked positive.
If federicci hadn’t had such a good game we could have been out of sight.
The problem was that allowed reading to come back at us and we then made the mistake of being too cautious.
Anyway, there are positives to take from the game, although we do need points now not performances, but hopefully performances will help bring points.

Cestria – I believe the lad is made or the English premiership.
He is big and strong, quick off the block and a true, ball playing centre half. I like tayls a lot – I just wish we would get him and keep him fit. Should colo go – and we be guaranteed that Stevie T can stay fit – he and Mbiwa would be colossal ! Should colo stay – that’s 3 fantastic players to have. I’d have liked us to buy Forren who has gone to Southampton I believe, from molde. Very good and technical player that many people will be talking about soon.
On a centre forward – I’ve heard nothing! It’s all very quiet here, but as we know that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Who would people like to come in as our new striker? Realistically..
207 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:13 AM
I don’t doubt us pushing TS, I’m just worried that, when it comes down to payment, ashley will still keep his wallet tight. He’s probably still hyperventilating over buying debuchey! And we have to contend with ‘arry in most of our transfers now, with his silly qpr money. Can’t believe I’m seying reports on them trying to get sissoko from under us.

I think you are just picking fault with everything now beyond what is reasonable.
I mean there are plenty mistakes you can complain about but not that.
Cabaye was obviously not fully fit, he said himself. also cabaye would be a better defensive option than bigi so i don’t buy it that he wasn’t injured.
I do agree that marv should have been kept on to anticipate that the cabaye sub would have to happen at some point.

@Ibiza soap box negativity shouters like you in the last summer transfer window?
210 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:15 AM
Tsunki – All the best teams defend as a unit from the front. Harrying opposition defenders forces misplaced passes and mistakes. Having said that, doing it without a strategy is foolish, and makes players look like headless chickens.
I remember watching old Ajax teams who worked on the philosophy of only pressing and harrying once the opposition reach your half. It makes for a compact and strong defensive unit. This is particularly effective if you are playing stronger teams as they will want to come at you. Pressing high up the pitch leaves gaps and spaces for opposition players to play in.

jamesthe first. Good Morning to one and all.
Rotonda – So it is not mass hysteria? It is just my patronising persona? This from the best fans in football ! I must be blessed in having mates who also can’t see the woods for the trees.
I hope you’ll look back on this episode and recognise that maybe we were just the victims of our own success last season . Let me explain.
Had we not over performed last season then MA who does not understand football would have seen that you need to invest to continue the momentum. That we might not be so lucky with injuries and players can get too comfy and need to be dropped or rested. The benefit of rotation is wasted on many. You can’t just turn form on like a tap. Instead he discounted the managers advice and then demands for new players. I won’t yet again paint the full picture but it is worth factoring in the impact new players have on the existing ones who fear for their places. Just look at the respective squads from the PL games over the weekend. That will bring it home to you what a relatively weak squad we have. I am not talking about in comparison
to top of the league sides but the bottom. Might get you thinking and their not in European competition.
Catchy– Thanks for asking after my mental health. Everything is rosy
and hunky dory from my perspective but maybe I am just deluded.
I am hearing a lot of positives about Pardew’s longevity and quality players coming through the door.
Enjoy your day one and all.
214 Rotonda heights // Jan 21, 2013 at 9:34 AM
Although I would prefer a continental technical coach, I think Tisdale could actually be quite an inspired choice. He really is a winner it would seem, doesn’t just claim to be one.
People always said Shearer should have gone and got some experience in the lower leagues, but his ego wouldn’t let him.
The way I see it with Pardew we are in spectacular freefall. The players look more and more demoralised after every fresh defeat, a bit like how he left the staff feeling at Southamption apparently, so I don’t see how getting rid of Pardew could be destabilising. If anything a new face could lift the place unless it was Hughes or JFK of course
Yes pardew had 1 good season, so did Roeder, but 1/2 good seasons over 10 years, always followed by a huge downturn like 2 wins in 18 games and the inevitable sack can’t just be co-incidence.
Pardew took Charlton from the premiership to the bottom 3 of the championship before they sacked him. West Ham were a bit luckier and got rid just in time.
Blanc has got EPL experience with Manu and has not fallen out with Benny. In fact a French manager may help keep him on Tyneside next season.
I think players would much rather sign for a name like Blanc. However, I think Pardew has very little input on transfers, apart from Obertan and Elliot. Enough said.
