Yohan Cabaye – I’ll Be Fit For Aston Villa Game

10:21 am, Monday, January 21st, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 51 Comments

We could do with some good news today, and we have some form Newcastle’s excellent central midfielder Yohan Cabaye, as he explains he wanted to come off on Saturday because he was feeling tired after his first start in Newcastle colors for a good few months.

yohan cabaye reading

Yohan Cabaye in action – will be fit for Villa game

And Yohan was easily our Man of the Match with 76% of the vote, with Sylvain Marveaux next in line on 11%, and the French International had put Newcastle with a superb goal direct from a free kick in the first half.

This is what Yohan told the local press today:

“I asked to come off because my groin became tight. I didn’t want to take any risks on my first start for so long. I have come back much earlier than was planned. The pitch was very heavy, I think it was the right decision for me.”

“I was also feeling tired. You cannot expect a player to be 100% in my situation. I wasn’t fit enough to finish the game and that was why I came off.” I was afraid about my groin. I have come back from surgery and did not want to get pain again. I am not worried now – because I came off I think I will be alright for Villa”.

The problem with Cabaye coming off id that Alan Pardew had already taken off Sylvain Marveaux and we were left with our two best players on the bench in that second half, which made it just a little easier for Reading to come form behind and snatch a 2-1 win – which they did, after Newcastle had been dominant in the first half.

And it was Newcastle worst league defeat of the season in a match which was so important since Reading are below us in the league, but have now won three of their last four league games.

And our next game a week on Wednesday is also against one of only four sides who are still below us in the league – and if we lose that one – Alan Pardew will not have many games left to turn this terrible situation around at Newcastle.

The Newcastle manager caused consternation following the game on Saturday, by saying that Yohan had injured his groin again – which turns out to be not true.

It’s very good news that Yohan will be fit for that game, and he was only being sensible in protecting his fitness on Saturday – even if it could have cost us the game.

Amazing how much a player can change a team. Hope we can get 90 minutes out of him, as i’d say he’s our most important player.

Southampton was our worst defeat of the season.
They hadn’t won a game … ’til the Toon rolled into town.

That was an embarrassing afternoon they could have won 5-0.

if we stay up, Cabaye deserves a big pay rise; we have to secure his services.

  • 9 Ben3arfa // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:29 AM

    About Sissoko

him preferring a move here means nothing . Remy said the same thing.

And how many Central Midfielders does pork chops Redknapp want . Really hate that guy

  • 10 pawl250 // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:31 AM

We need a few additions no more accepting half measures!

    Get Mbiwa in ASAP!

Transfer window should look like this by the end!

    Sissoko – CDM/CM/CAM – 3.5m
    Debuchy – experienced RB – 5m
    Mbiwa – experienced CB – versatile across whole back 4 – 7m
    Alderwield – experienced CB – 6m
    Hadiara – young LB – 2.5m
    Okore – young CB – 3m

Possibly Colo leaving too. Not that I want it but we have to accept it could happen.

We DONT need a striker, we have ample cover if we player lone striker. We have likes of Shola, Sammy, Campbell, and versatility of Obertan, Ben Arfa. Its not ideal but it only comes into question should Cisse get injured.

Regardless we need to strengthen our back four we were 1-0 up, if we keep a clean sheet we win the game. Likewise to many times this season! Defence is our weakest area!

    Tony…If true, great news.

LYF…Cabaye is a player I really want us to hold on to. Such a class act.

  • 13 Williamsonsuks // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:34 AM

Cabaye seems to respect Pardew, he’s a big figure in the dressing room and is defending his manager. Maybe the players have more respect for him than it looks, that can only be good if Pardew is staying.
Ranger is suppose to be getting a club beasting for his rant about the fans booing. Cheeky a@@hole! He has brass balls or is as thick as mince. I’d go with the mince.

so are qprs according to some reports. there where reports earlier in month we had an all day meeting with them so this could be a second meeting … looks promising… (i hope). also noticable how in the interviews pards pointing out how we are missing tiote … 2+2 =5

Williamson….Have to say the recent support and showing of some key players really makes me think calls that he has lost the dressing room are really off the mark. They seem to be on Pardews side, which is great given the situation we find ourselves.

  • 17 nufc1984 // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:37 AM

Pawl I have to disagree with u there mate. We need a quick winger who can cross a ball and a quick centre forward. I don’t trust cisse to replicate last season. He hits and hopes most of the time. When he’s one on one he normally fluffs it ala reading.

  • 18 Shiremagpies // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:37 AM

@hatem, its not that i want to see him f*** it up i personally want to see the complete opposite. which i think we all do. wether its pards or someone else thats what we want, we cant do anything about it, guys heres a suggestion we could kidnap pardew and hole him up in OV thats sure to turn things around, perhaps, just perhaps saturday made everybody realise something and gave them a massive kick up the backside, plus with the positivity on the transfer front who knows……

  • 19 yo-yo // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:38 AM

Its a nasty business when Remy abuses our hospitality and is then poached and the same thing will happen over and over unless the useless management take steps to protect potential signings from being tapped up part way through the transfer process. Use the batcopter.

It used to be called industrial espionage.

Tony…We shall see then. I think they have been working on things, however, working on things and completing them are two entirely different issues.

Both Ashley and Llambias were there on Saturday, hopefully they do see the big picture here and will pull their fingers out and get some deals done.

  • 24 yo-yo // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:42 AM

It would be fine not to sign a striker if Cisse was on form and as long as we had cover in case he was injured.

I think a replacement/ upgrade on Shola is more important than a replacement for Ba at present – for the same reason as you give. Play lone striker and someone in the hole.

But we do need 2 more at the back

  • 25 TorqToon // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:42 AM

News coming out of Bordeaux (not the French papers as I don’t trust certain journos) – we have bid last night for Yoan Gouffran. Highly rated winger.

26yrs old and wants out of Bordeaux. The papers say we have bid €750,000 but they want around €1,000,000 for the lad. Which – I would say – is a bargain.

It sounds true and my connection with Bordeaux would suggest this – and with us going in under the going rate for the player is a very ‘Newcastle’ thing to do!

    Will keep you informed.

i hope we send them down and the mitalls / fernandes bail on them. another southampton / pompey mess by sad sack.

  • 27 posada // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:43 AM

A manager would have planned and thought this through. He would have asked Cabaye for 60 mins and then had someone properly briefed to come on and do a job. But, no, he simply made it up as he went a long. Cabaye looked distressed and confused and Bigi when he came on looked lost. The Chuckle Brothers could manage better than that.

  • 28 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:44 AM

Pardew needs the backing of the board strongly now.

A new manager might get more out of cabaye, marv, cisse….but even a top top manager would struggle to change a game with players like obertan, perch, bigi and ranger on the bench.

Pardew isn’t helping himself but he is carrying the can for failures at all levels within the club which is unfair.

Get him the players, continue the passing game we have got going in recent weeks and then hopefully pardew can back the lads to be more agressive for 90 mins, not just 60

  • 35 RooneyToons // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:50 AM

You’ve got to be joking me… We need 2
    A winger/striker and a Ba replacement.

Where are goals gonna come from??

We don’t have one winger who can cross… It’s actually ridiculous
Debuchy on the other hand can. Cisse really should of scored from his great cross. An in form striker would of scored.. Which is what we need.. Hence the need for more strikers

Hatem – I don’t like that paper very much for information as they are the French equivalent of the Daily mail in the way they try to fabricate whatever they can to sell papers.

However after speaking to my friend – it seems there could be some truth to it. I’d just put in a million euro bid and tie him down. It’s peanut in this day and age of football.

  • 38 RonVanDam // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:51 AM

As to Rangers twit in theearlier post

    I would say he’s 3/4 right and 1/4 wrong

1/4 – Yes we the fans have the right to voice our opinions, especially when you’ve paid for your ticket with your hard earned money and dont want your beloved club go into relegation aftter getting promoted 3 seasons ago

3/4 – We dont know the full extent of players injuries and whos match fit or not. We base our judgments on players reputations and who fits into the the next opposition we are facing and the tactical approach to the next game.
Pardew comes across as intelligent and is spot on with most of his analysis, he’s the only manager that i can understand in interviews who does make sense, maybe im biased because he is our manager. You know he loves this club coz you see him fighting for us on the sidelines and interviews. When i look at the picture, it doesn’t make sense. Somethings missing as there’s a invisible piece that incompletes this puzzle.

  • 39 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:51 AM

I have nothing against QPR….their owner is interested in football and has every right to spend his money that way.

If he can turn them into a solid mid table side, maybe even push for europe next year if they sign the players they are linked with he can then curtail his spending.

Its like all business…you need investment upfront (bank loan, savings from previous job, investor, etc) to get up and running….thats what teams like man city, chelsea and QPR now are looking to do.

@Hatem… team would be better with both. We wouldn’t see any of the profit, we know what fatman’s gonna do with it. Santon shows signs of brilliance, a must keep player, great for the future.

I think this period of time we are going through right now is the most frustrating i have ever known.

I cannot decide about conspiracies happening, whether the chairman wants success, just wants advertising, wants to sell, is the manager just paying off a debt, are they going to sack him, will we get relegated, can we get players in………..

Head is battered so you spend ages researching every post and you read sentences like ‘ Newcastle should sign in next few days’ or ‘Its believed Pardew wants’ or ‘ We have heard (player) would come to Newcastle’……

bloody hell can some club/player give us a break and do a deal that will improve this team.

Finally i have never had a go at Williamson, my god fella that was terrible for first goal !

    Toon toon !

  • 47 TorqToon // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:56 AM

PPB – I agree mate! Very low numbers ! Which is why I always take the figures with a pinch of salt.

However Bordeaux can either take a sum of money now or risk him running down his contact and walking for free in the summer.

  • 48 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:58 AM

Belfast….More empty promises. You could get a job working for Ashley.

  • 49 sirtoongospel // Jan 21, 2013 at 10:59 AM

Cisse should have scored but it was a great save. The keeper had a blinder. Had he been on form it would have been a scuffed shot that went into the corner of the net. When you are low on confidence you tend to smash it and he hit it lovely, on his wrong foot. But the keeper saved it. Pardew playing him on the wing has taken his confidence away. He is snatching at things. But when a couple hit the net he will be fine. The thing about Cisse is he still gets in positions and he still wants the ball. Other than cabaye and Anita he is the only player who comes and wants the ball. Too many hide and try to avoid the ball.

  • 50 Rotonda heights // Jan 21, 2013 at 11:04 AM

I don’t mean it nastily as it’s an awful affliction for anyone to endure and I’ve seen it at first hand.
But how long have you been shizophrenic with multi personalities? How many play mates will you be bringing out today to support you.
