Gouffran To Sign For Newcastle Tomorrow

8:05 pm, Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 154 Comments

There’s news coming through that Newcastle are expected to complete the signing of 26 year-old Bordeaux striker Yoan Gouffran tomorrow, with the player himself breaking the news.

Yoan Gouffran _7

Yoan Gouffran – on his way to take medical at Newcastle

The 26-year-old has announced on his official Twitter account, that he will be joining Newcastle, and it’s thought the deal is around €1.5M – which is £1.2M – and it’s a great price for the Magpies, because Yoan’s contract runs out in June at Bordeaux.

Gouffran was gracious in his thanks to Bordeaux and is excited to be joining such a famous club as Newcastle:

“Big thanks to everyone who has supported me through the good times and bad times. I thank the leadership of the club and the staff for helping me grow.”

“I need a new challenge and therefore I hope that you respect my choice. I will follow all the results of the Girondins (Bordeaux).”  “Tomorrow I will be a new player of Newcastle and I am proud. Thanks to everyone….kisses.”

We have to think that tomorrow will be an unveiling of players who have signed for the club – we reckon that’s four by the latest count – and it will give the squad and the manager – and of course the fans - a huge boost going into the last 15 games of the season – but we have to pick up the points starting next Tuesday night at Villa Park – and hopefully climb up that league table.

Today’s been a  good day for Newcastle United – and that’s an understatement.

Even though I don’t particularly rate anything other than his pace, I hope he comes here and scores a hatfull (I tipped Cisee to fail, so what do I know?)

Apparently they are fitting a turnstile at the medical centre and new players have to take a ticket and wait for their number to be called out.

Absolutley thrilled with Mapou signing, he really is top, top class and a brilliant signing.

If we sign Gouffran, Haidara and Sissoko too I’ll wet my pants with sex wee – don’t worry, I’ll make sure I clean myself up before going to work.

  • 15 Fostino // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:11 PM

  • 25 Tsunki // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:16 PM

Colo I think will be gone. But never mind. Still, would like to know if he had a legitimate reason (someone dying, terrible degenerative illness stuff like that) before I decide whether to get the wallpaper photo of me and him off my phone for good. I was itching to get Dreamboat on there but now there are two…choices….choices….:)

Never thought we would sign two defenders of Champions league quality. We are quite privileged to have Mbiwa, Debuchy and hopefully Colo all in the same defense. Not to mention the potential signing if Sissoko which would be top notch.

  • 35 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:22 PM

Can’t believe you are all getting excited. Ashley wont be buying anyone, we will be relegated, Ashley will sell all of our players and….oh, we’ve signed two top French defenders? Debuchy and Mbwia?

I see. Give me a minute and I’ll come up with a new spin on it.

Not hanging about but great news. A bit late, but well done boys at the top…quality player.

  • 37 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:23 PM

Post number 31 is exactly right. Just hoping that’s Sissoko signs and plays on Saturday against a poor Villa team.

  • 38 Spuggy // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:23 PM

Great news! Hope Colo stays as it will be +1 -1 quality CB. We need our captain for the rest of the season make no mistake!

Great signing and hope to keep Colo ’til the summer atleast.
Tsunki, club PR dictates Llambias and Pardew are left out while Ashley wines/dines and sorts out the mess. Our very own superhero? More to follow, let’s hope so.

  • 53 nufc 11 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:28 PM

Very happy with the yanga signing, sissokko in the summer is perfect get rid of the dead wood, money well spent on the defence one place we needed it, a loan move for bent would be dream land until we get to the summer to poach top striker who knows benteke or michu could be availble well done AP and co results need to follow now

  • 54 Spuggy // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:28 PM

    Haha torq – nice!

    What a back line….

    Debuchy…M’biwa….Colo….Santon/Hairdryer

  • 55 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:29 PM

I think Mike realises that he made a big mistake not investing last summer. We still have a lot of work to do in the transfer market, but the Mbiwa signing is very positive.

  • 56 G // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:30 PM

Ketsbia9, who do you want him to sign for like? Are Villa playing on Sat? We don’t play them till next Weds.

  • 57 Tsunki // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:30 PM

I will ITK this and say Colo will go.

OK I am still just guessing.

  • 58 Beattie25 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:30 PM

In all my years this is the best defense we’ve ever had (if Colo stays):

    ————————–Krul———————
    Debuchy—M’bwia——–Colo—-Santon

  • 59 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:30 PM

As Billy Zane would say, Gouffran has a good bone strucutre.

  • 60 Jayden // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:30 PM

    Kets, have you caught sanity?

  • 61 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:31 PM

We still need a commanding centre half that scores goals.

  • 62 Tsunki // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:31 PM

Beattie – except the Santon bit. Really.

And how come Ed still cant spell Newcastle in his header titles?

  • 75 lesh // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:35 PM

Well done to Mike Ashley for getting Mbwia over the line. It shows what can be done when there’s a somebody with the authority to negotiate and flexiblility to close deals off.

Now then, lets get the other two or three firmed up and this window’ll have been a great team effort.

I wonder if there’s anything else MA can do to help relieve the load on the clearly overstretched Mr Llambias.

Of course I mean that in the nicest possible way!

  • 76 Jayden // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:35 PM

  • 78 croftus5678 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:35 PM

i would rather our defence not go up for headers tbh as we allways get caught out ….but now we have gouffran maybe we dont need a defender who can score as he’s good with his head.

  • 79 G // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:35 PM

F365 have pointed out that all we need is a French keeper to put out an entire French 11! They are also referring to us as Neuvochateau.

Side note: Ed u really must get R Taylor in the banner. He truly deserves and I little suspicious our form is part of some curse his absence in the nufcblog banner has cause.

  • 84 JTOONJ // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:36 PM

I don’t really like that chant it needs to be unique to him! AHaha i like cabayes chant as we stole it from alberts old chant!

  • 85 pizzicatochan // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:37 PM

@Fostino, I think we also need to protect Steve Taylor’s health by purchasing Douglas or any CB (with Colo’s situation unknown). We gotta sell Williamson at some point.

  • 107 croftus5678 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:44 PM

mbiwa will have a bigger impact than debuchy imo and i can not see collo going think he’s just having a strop cos daddy wants him to play with him…i would not worry he will still be here and happy in a few weeks.

  • 108 pizzicatochan // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:44 PM

    @Jayden, they are equally important.

  • 109 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:44 PM

Well, I used to play just behind the striker but I’m getting on a bit now. I might eventually become the manager of NUFC. Instead of kicking advertising boards, I’ll kick the players if they’re not performing. That’s tremendous man management.

  • 110 G // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:45 PM

  • 111 davybtoon // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:45 PM

  • 112 Toon1978 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:45 PM

    Jayden

Both good signings. Equal imo lol. Debuchy simply because he is Cabaye’s mate and him being here will make both of them happier in Newcastle. Ohh, and they are both top players. Mbiwa is a top CH from what i have seen and i think we are lucky to have such quality. Not to get some bloody points on the board and get us up this bloody table asap.

  • 113 t00ntime // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:45 PM

if signings go through + colo stays, is this our best team?
4-2-3-1 is pards formation atm so:
    krul;
    debuchy, mbiwa, colo, santon;
    tiote, sissoko:
    hba, cabaye, marv;
    cisse

gouffran can play for marv or cisse. or you cud also go:

    cabaye, sissoko;
    hba, marv, gouffran;
    cisse

Alderweireld speaks French and will cost the same as Mbiwa.

  • 115 pizzicatochan // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:46 PM

@toonarmydownsouth, he needs more time for fully recovery. Don’t wanna rush him back too quickly.

  • 116 alf // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:46 PM

Just seen Pardew at the Villa game, with Glasses on, So that’s why he can’t see what the Fans can, Because he dosent wear his Glasses!

  • 117 numba9 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:46 PM

Nzogbia back would be a good one with a striker to replace ba

  • 118 Spuggy // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:46 PM

OMG I don’t have to cringe and squirm everytime Willo plays the ball nervously to colo, or plays it to Debuchy when there’s 3 players around him or lobs it.

    Joy.

  • 119 G // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:47 PM

Good grief, what a difference 24 hours can make as a toon fan eh?

  • 120 pizzicatochan // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:47 PM

@Kets, um, you are right. If we really have all the money, yea.

Remember, we are really splashing the cash like pouring out water these few days already.

  • 121 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:48 PM

We won’t go up the table if we don’t get any points on the board.

  • 122 Peter // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:48 PM

I don’t like it but being a Geordie has made me pessimistic. I still see Williamson playing next game :’(

    ehheeheheheh :)

  • 124 Spuggy // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:48 PM

So Mbiwa and Gouffran in the bag.

Would dearly love to get Sissoko in but nothing solid on that one yet. I think this is such an important signing as it gives us loads of options, stops tiote’s guarentee’d start and frees up anita to be deployed at full back if required.

  • 125 Fostino // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:49 PM

debuchy is a bigger name..did you see the euros??

  • 127 Barton // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:49 PM

Never thought the day would come were i would be praising M Ashley, but if all is to believed and its thanks to him taking personal charge of transfer business (and hopefully pluggin his left foot up Owlheeds backside as he kicks him out the door),excellent signing, and if/when we get the other 3 lads through the door will be forced to eat humble pie,Mike am giving you another chance, please dont throw it back in my face with any more silly carryon like the first few years of your ownership.
    HWTL!!!!!!

Merci, merci! MA has shown mercy for his suffering customers!

Have we diagnosed what’s wrong with him yet? Bodysnatched? Been smoking cobwebs? What!?

  • 130 Toon1978 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:51 PM

All this excitement and guess what……Mbiwa will start on the bench and Williamson will start against Villa hahahahahahaha…now that would be bloody annoying!!

  • 131 Rake // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:51 PM

Curtis Good with back pass of the season.

  • 136 BDin9 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:54 PM

Need to get the Colo issue sorted quickly. It’s a distraction we do not need right now. Mbiwa is great news. Looks like more to follow …… at last.

  • 137 rharrison // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:56 PM

I dont usually comment on these, just avidly read to catch up both news and general opinions! But I would like to just state here that I think a lot of the problems with our club is down to Llambias. Sure MA is ultimately responsible as owner and he should be accountable to his appointments, but Llambias from day one was clearly out of his depth from his previous casino manager job.
The man has stalled on transfers and getting players over the line, think back to this summer with the huge anti climax from our great season where our squad was insultingly left adrift by failing to sign players, excessive haggling and excuses. Letting Remy slip through his fingers and stuttering until now. MA has come on board and sorted out 3-4, maybe 5 signings in a day, and without a vast outlay. Let’s not also forget Llambias disgrace in dealing with the press, slagging off shearer so publically, his ‘purple’ players excuse last summer, his rigid lack of public communication. I believe that this transfer window must surely prove to MA that perhaps it might be time to bring in a chairman who, like our excellent scouting network, has a deeper understanding of the game and the unique business it is.
I don’t believe Pardew is quite the great manager, but he is articulate, honest and can see why he is backed by the board. I think our performance last season warrants him to have a chance till the end of the season to turn things around, given a stronger squad, a few wins and less pressure to evaluate him under fair conditions before we bring in yet another face to be sacked in a few years.

  • 138 woodsee // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:56 PM

Ha ha ,the staff at the club shop are gonna be tested to there limits with these names going on the shirts

  • 139 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:56 PM

The start of the turn around has began!

1st of four through the door in the next few days.

And hopefully a surprise left on deadline day, not that im greedy.

You know, in a way, i hate where we are in the league. But I feel this current situation can only benefit the team in the long run. We wouldn’t be going after these players if we were riding our luck with injuries like last season. Its kicked the board into action in a monumental way. Lets hope they have learnt their lessons.

    Onwards and upwards.

  • 140 jj // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:57 PM

Villa cannot defend set pieces….WE NEED to exploit that

  • 141 numba9 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:57 PM

  • 143 alf // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:57 PM

The Frog Press are saying Sissokos a done deal and will sign in this Window. Now he’s a good signing in the mould of Viera. The old Toons on the up again! Bradfords scored.

  • 144 yorkymag // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:00 PM

  • 150 Toon77 // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:37 PM

Just watched Gouffran on Youtube – forget Remny this lad looks very quick with a nice touch & finish. Kind of reminds me of Les Ferdinand back in the day when we were kicking everyones ass! Oh Harry I forgot too mention, he has scored more goals than Remny this season and it looks like Sissoko is up for joining the Geordie a le France revolution! Good luck in the Championship next season!

  • 151 Wandering Geordie // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:45 PM

I am extremely worried…………………………..How are we gonna fit all the new faces on Ed’s header?

  • 152 lesh // Jan 22, 2013 at 11:22 PM

G @ 110, Uni is indeed French for United.

    Allez le gars!

  • 153 lesh // Jan 22, 2013 at 11:23 PM

    Wandering Geordie @151,

Ed’ll have a word with Mr Mike and he’ll get you a wider monitor!!

  • 154 lesh // Jan 22, 2013 at 11:26 PM

Toon77, Wow! If Gouffran reminicent of Sir Les….. all we need now is a French equivalent of Shearer to begin slaying the dragons again!!

    Suggestions any one?
