Looks Like Newcastle Have Beaten QPR To Moussa Sissoko

10:23 am, Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 112 Comments

There’s some (more) pending good news for Newcastle fans today, as it looks like Newcastle have beaten out QPR to French International midfielder Moussa Sissoko, with the player expected at Newcastle tomorrow.

Auxerre/Toulouse - L1 - 16.02.2008

Moussa Sissoko - Newcastle favored to sign him

There are reports that Newcastle are in advanced negotiations for the 22 year-old French International, who has expressed his wish to join the large contingent of French players at Newcastle United.

Newcastle were hoping to get the player as a free agent in the summer, but Toulouse offered him up for sale this month, and after QPR seemingly have missed out on Yann M’Vila, who now looks likely to sign for Russian Premier League club Rubin Kazan, the London club went after the Toulouse defensive midfielder.

French clubs Monaco and Marseilles were also interested in signing the lad, but there was news last night that Marseilles thought they had missed out on the 5 times capped French International, who can also play as an attacking box to box central midfielder and stands 6’2″ tall.

Toulouse is the only club that Moussa has ever played for – and he’s played over 200 times with over 23 goals for the club, and he is good friends with a certain Yohan Cabaye – and there are rumors that Yohan gave him a glowing report on Newcastle United - and what it’s like to play in font of 52,000 mad screaming Geordies. :D

With Yohan’s fantastic display for the club on Saturday, and Newcastle having troubles with Fab Coloccini, which may be sorted out today, this lad would make a great future captain for Newcastle, and that would help to keep him on Tyneside over the summer too.

It would be fantastic news if Newcastle can tie up Sissoko – and then we could see Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa of Montpelier, Nancy’s Massadio Haidara, and Bordeaux striker Yoan Gouffran also join Newcastle this week – in addition to Moussa.

Then we’d definitely have to have our second strip as French Blue – with all the French players on Tyneside – and a possible French captain too in Yohan Cabaye.

Here’s hoping this all happens.

Re-post: If Colo goes surely the only logical captain is Cabaye? He is constantly selling the club to other players, first Debuchy and now rumours are Sissoko, and his defence of Pardew after the reading game was the sign of a model professional. He’s also one of a small handful of guaranteed starters.

  • 2 gaz 44 // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:25 AM

This could be the week we stay clear of relegation and give ourselves real chance of champions league for next year.. All depends if we can (as pardew would say) get them over the line… Then stuff villa by 6

  • 3 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:26 AM

Guess the game of Fifa didn’t end well with Fernandes.

Happy that we might be getting SIssoko and Haidara, but does that mean Tiote and Santon’s days are numbered?

  • 4 Moe-NUFC // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:26 AM

    CABAYE DESERVES A RAISE!!!

  • 5 colwell // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:26 AM

If we had these players at the start of the season we’d be around 4th again, Pards well Carr is playing Le fantasy football.

    Aubemayang next?

  • 6 JackButler // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:27 AM

I’m getting excited now (no doubt will fall flat on my face soon enough).

Now if only we had a manager who knew how to utilise all this quality thats coming in ;)

  • 7 yo-yo // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:27 AM

IMO Yo should be wearing the captain’s armband. He has helped us get Debuchy in and is a great ambassador for the Toon. He and Mapou (if we get him) are the kind of on pitch leaders we need.

  • 8 rainrix // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:28 AM

Shearer… Yup cabs would be my choice but i could see pards giving it to jonas on the basis that he’s been here longer than others most of the rest of our 1st team.

  • 9 Moe-NUFC // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:28 AM

    Surprised none mentioned Michu yet!?
Swansea got him for 2M offered them 8-10M and we surely might have a chance. He’s not too fast but one of the best second strikers in the EPL no doubt!

Needless to say, with a proper manager and a line up like this…. that’s a scary team. Especially with everyone on form

  • 11 JackButler // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:29 AM

    Moe-NUFC

I have a very close mate who works for Swansea and they’d want close to 20 million for Michu.

  • 12 ajcrawfs // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:30 AM

    cabaye is an absolute BEAST!!

    What a Legend!!!

  • 13 colwell // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:30 AM

    Moe-NUFC

Michu isn’t French or doesn’t speak French so Carr won’t look at him.

  • 14 SuperShearer // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:30 AM

@Moe-NUFC Swansea have come out and said they won’t let him go for less than £30 Million, that’s an exaggeration but no way they’d let him go for less than £15 therefore outside out price range.

  • 15 rainrix // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:30 AM

Michu? No chance, swansea put a 20mil price tag on him, its similar to what we did when tiote had a blinding 1st season. Cant see him wanting to leave either tbh.

  • 16 yo-yo // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:30 AM

    JB

Why would AP agree to sign all these ball playing technical players if he wanted a 1990s style 4-4-2 side ? We’re in transition.
This season is our rebuilding season – we ought to be 4th with the starting 11 coming in now but we did it back to front last season a lot of people thought we would be where we are now.

  • 17 croftus5678 // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:32 AM

cabaye looks on tv like he should be our captain (not sure behind the scenes) but surely he’s worth a punt for a few games to see what he does with the armband.

  • 18 yo-yo // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:32 AM

    rainrix

Aye cos Jonas has a good work rate. But can he motivte the others ?

  • 19 @lukehodge_ // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:33 AM

these 4 signings would be class.. would be very happy

  • 20 colwell // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:33 AM

To get the caliber of players (sissoko/Mbiwa/Debuchy) to come too us when we are in a shite position Cabaye must be offering to sleep with them as part of the deal.

  • 21 Shane // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:34 AM

Does our scouting network live in France… Have we never thought about other European countries; Spain, Italy, Germany and perhaps to a lesser extent The Vatican City?

  • 22 Novocastrian66 // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:35 AM

AF2258 PARIS CDG 1045 LANDING AT 1044 . Do you think the players will be on a chartered flight? Anyone at the airport?

  • 23 Shiremagpies // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:35 AM

@jack butler 6. m8 that’s exactly my feelings, had a little giggle at the comment in brackets… im that excited I cant stop hitting F5 on my keyboard, the worst thing of all I cant even stay in the bathroom with my 2 year old daughter bein in the bath, oh well im sure she’ll shout if she needs owt.

  • 24 @lukehodge_ // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:35 AM

haha to who whoever is saying michu for 8m.. like swansea would settle for that hahaha, and like he would even want to come here when swansea are above us and playing fast attractive football each week.. deluded

  • 25 rainrix // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:36 AM

yo-yo… Well i have seen noticed he shouts at other players a lot :) . But no i don’t think he’d make a good captain, it would just be a sign of pards playing the “safe” option

  • 26 JackButler // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:37 AM

    yo-yo

It was a sarcky comment in all honesty, but if we get these guys in he’ll be under serious pressure to get the best out of them or he’ll pay the ultimate price

  • 27 Novocastrian66 // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:38 AM

Shane. What about Belgium too? They seem to have a rich seam of talent at the moment. Not too far for our French talent spotters to go either.

  • 28 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:38 AM

Fingers crossed. Would be an excellent addition, and give us real strength in depth in the centre of midfield. Cabaye, Tiote, Anita, Sissoko. With Bigi coming through and Perch on Standby. 4 internationals, 1 with huge potential, and a solid if unspectacular back up.

Now, just to add the same standards to every other position.

  • 29 shearermania // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:40 AM

all right boys i must admit the player (anita) has improved but im still not convinced. when the going gets tough he goes into hiding and is nowhere to be seen…..hes obvious got some qualities but maybe pards dosnt know how to utilize them but to say the least over all im very unimpressed by Anita…apart from a couple of decent touches hes no better than perch in my opinion……way overrated

Anita – No mate. Neither santon nor Tiote will be going.

I can see Sissoko as a potential replacement and indeed upgrade for Tiote, but not right now. And sant’s will just be moved further forward into a ‘bale-esq’ position in my opinion.

  • 38 gunnarnufc // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:42 AM

Pleaase stop jinx-ing every single deal Ed! It’s not done until it’s done.. we are just torturing ourselves by getting overly excited by every single tabloid story. If it would not be for the obnoxious reporting on every single little step of a deal, most of which is pure guess work, the transfer business at clubs like Newcastle would be way more simple. We are not beating any club at any transfer deal until the guy is pictured holding the shirt in front of the Benton training ground.

  • 39 shearermania // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:42 AM

one player who really caught my eye was this cb okore or something we have been linked with….that boy is a beast, very young but boy he can play…would be very impressed if we could get him over the line but doubt if we are even looking at him

Pawl, panic ye not. That was last night, and it was because his flight was cancelled due to snow.

  • 42 Moe-NUFC // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:43 AM

    20, 30M .. Dang!
talking about dreaming big, he’s not even an international yet for crying out loud
I say they might have doubts when they see a real offer on the table, but of course our club don’t “dare” challenging bigger (Tottenham, Arsenal ..) on financial basis.

I’m sure QPR fans had a little giggle when they heard about the Remy romurs.

  • 43 Novocastrian66 // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:43 AM

Pardew’s only saving grace is the paucity of the squad. If he gets these players in and nobody leaves and does not improve results his excuses are gone.
If he continues to select Shola for example there is no hope. Why was he selected ahead of Obertan on Saturday? Obertan v Harte only one winner in my book.

  • 44 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:43 AM

Pawl – Relax, the medical was always scheduled for today. Luke Edwards is just stirring.

Aye. Carroll wasn’t gonna leave either. How’d that turn out?.

If the price is right, they are off. Proven in the past.

  • 46 sirtoongospel // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:45 AM

The whole starting 11 thing is great, but the point is that if these players arrive, then Cheick could be rested, or have cover when suspended!!! Anita, Marv, Santon, they don’t have to play every game! It would be a massive boost to the season in general for the manager to have options. I don’t think he has ever had a selection headache since he came here.

Also, Cheick will know that if he misses a game, we are well set, so he can play full tilt again. A fully committed Tiote is a force of nature! But we have all known that we have lacked a bit of power and have been a soft touch for a while now. It seems though that we are adding three 6ft plus powerhouses which we desperately need.

Can you imagine if all 3 came plus Butland and Gouffran? Incredible. The whole place would be buzzing. The manager especially. Players seeing real top additions on the bench also helps.

By the way, Sissoko wants to play with Cabaye as everyone in France knows that he is going to be the main man in the national team. If he forged a partnership with him here then he will be on that French team for sure.

  • 47 JackButler // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:45 AM

The amount of rumours and BS thats printed/attributed to this club is absolutely astounding.Yesterdays weather caused havoc everywhere but the good old british press claims that we are using it as an excuse as to why M’Biwa didn’t have his medical.

If I had been in charge of the Levison Inquiry I would have recommended that all journalists be taken outside and shot

  • 48 lewisbbk // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:45 AM

Its all good going for these French players, but I think the French clubs will start to clock what we are doing and raise the prices :/
We need to expand the places we are buying players from, there are many class players in the Dutch league and the German league.

  • 55 TorqToon // Jan 22, 2013 at 10:48 AM

Anita – I get that – but what I’m saying is this players AREN’T being brought in because others are being sold.

Should somebody come in and offer silly money for ANY of our players, they will be sold. That’s the joy of supporting this club.

with players like Santon who if he shores up his defensive side of the game, would be 1 of the finest fullbacks in the world in 3-5 years time, that is 1 heck of a line up. Replace Anita with an in-form Tiote.

If Laudrap or Van Gaal had that side of team we’d be flying even in the champions league. But sadly, Pardew is more than capable of getting us relegated with that squad. That’s how inept he is.

@ yo-yo: Sorry for not getting back to you yesterday.
Like I said – the president of Monpellier did indeed say, that he wouldn’t sell Belhanda to a Turkish club. He would rather sell him to Germany or England. I he really wants the money up front, I can’t think of many other clubs apart from Newcastle, that actually do business that way anymore. Most deals are done with monthly installments and all kinds of performance based clauses .. I’ve read, that Monpellier will sell Belhanda for €8-10m – if so, he would be an absolute steal! He is 22, and was probably only outshone by a certain Eden Hazard last season. I’d rather sign him for our left wing, than any striker that might push Cissé back on the wing, or force us to play 4-4-2 – not many of our midfield players are suited for that system …

Belhanda for me is a dream signing!

    Agreed
As much I as I loved this Cheikh, for me he’s the most likely to be sold in our midfield. Too many silly yellow cards and by the looks, the number is not going down. Add to that he’s not been half the player he once was for the club, got similar demons to those of a certain Barton certainly not the same type tho.

If they’re not on there, hopefully Ashley has stumped up for a private flight. Is the batcopter ready? Anyone at Benton?

“I’d love it just love it” if we stick it up the spiv.I don’t think Moussa’s dog has same bank manager as the spiv’s so we have a better chance of getting him with no brown envelopes flying about.;)

  • 99 Novocastrian66 // Jan 22, 2013 at 11:17 AM

I always thought French was a waste of time at school. “Why do I want to learn French?” I asked my French teacher in a rebellious and ignorant manner. ” You’ll never know when it will come in handy.” Was his reply. “Total waste of time, I’ll never need French.”
Some 30 odd years later I try using my very limited understanding of French to read French newspapers to see who and when we are signing.
Teachers. They’re always right. If only I knew then what I know now.

Never over till he`s holding up the black and white shirt with NUFC in the background.
Dont trust candle face one inch

  • 101 Lynxie // Jan 22, 2013 at 11:25 AM

Newspaper reports in portugal linking us with Ricky Van Wolfswinkel. Profile fits perfectly. Pacy, strong, brave, goalscorer (33 in 71 for Sporting), 23 years old, Lots of sell on value (just to keep Jabba the Hut happy), and WILL score goals for us.
Sporting are in dire financial mess, and HAVE to sell, so a bargain can be picked up (still gonna cost us 9 or 10 mill). But, this lad can score with cynical portuguese defenders marking him……….
Hope there is some truth in this rumour.

    @99 Novacastrian66. Quality mate ! ;-)

Sissoko would be a great signing for us… it’s all getting a bit exciting!!

But, we need a CB! Mbiwa off that plane yet?

  • 104 burnzy // Jan 22, 2013 at 11:50 AM

come on the toon get this lad and now all we need is a striker :-)

  • 105 bills-son // Jan 22, 2013 at 12:10 PM

One of the biggest mistakes we made was not signing Ricky Van Wolfswinkel for £4M before he went to Sporting Lisbon. IMO the guy is class and he would be an unbelievable signing. He reminds me of Van Nistelrooy – he is that good.

  • 106 Lynxie // Jan 22, 2013 at 12:25 PM

    bills son:
Totally agree, the lad is dangerous from first minute till last. A natural goalscorer, he poses a threat as long as he is on the pitch, and its many many years since we had that (including Cisse and Ba by the way).

  • 107 Toon73 // Jan 22, 2013 at 12:26 PM

Sign Van Wolkswinkel just so I can get his shirt :)

    VAN WOLFSWINKEL

“a possible French captain too in Yohan Cabaye”

I would love this… tbh our resurgence may depend on it.

  • 110 NUFC_LEAZES END // Jan 22, 2013 at 1:11 PM

’52000 screaming Geordies’? Not the case these days. No one joins in with chants, there’s a lack of passion coming from the stands

  • 111 FrankfurtMag // Jan 22, 2013 at 1:21 PM

Frenchies at work have told me he has just snubbed Marseille and QPR and agreed terms with us.

    Fingers crossed.
