Newcastle were interested in Ricky van Wolfswinkel in the summer of 2010 after we had been promoted from the Championship, and when Ricky was still at FC Utrecht, but no firm bid was ever made for the 6’1″ striker, and he eventually joined Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2011 for €5.4M (around £4.5M) on a five year deal.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel – Newcastle again interested?
But today the Portuguese Daily A Bola is reporting that Newcastle are again interested in the striker, who turns 24 next Sunday.
Newcastle also have striker Yoan Gouffran of Bordeaux in their sights, but it wouldn’t surprise us too much if Newcastle try to bring in two strikers this month – so that for once we have a full complement of four experienced striker on Tyneside, and we may even be able to avoid the dreaded drop.
Newcastle are in danger of being relegated for sure after the terrible loss to Reading, and that will lose the club a ton of money if we cannot remain in the Premier League, and Billionaire Mike Ashley is only too well aware of that – we know that. 😀
Ricky has just one cap for Holland, but he has 34 goals in 65 appearances for Sporting Lisbon and while at Utrecht in the Eredivisie, he scored 36 goals in 69 appearances, so he knows there the goal is.
But van Wolfswinkel could be too expensive as Sporting Lisbon rejected an €18M (£14.4M) offer from CSKA Moscow only last summer, however they are short of cash and perhaps a €10M offer from Newcastle could tempt them to sell in January.
Italian clubs Fiorentina and Napoli are also said to be interested in the striker, and he has been in excellent form ever since he joined the Portuguese club eighteen months ago.
Since he started his career at Vitesse back in 2008, Ricky has made 183 total appearances and scored a good 83 goals.
Here’s hoping.

Also, imagine if we announce Haidara, M’biwa, Gouffran and Sissoko, all at the same time. Talk about a lift!

Comment #344Sissoko and Mbiwa would be the vital signings, in terms of on-pitch dynamics, 2 who can drive the team onto a new level and instill belief in those we already have and fans like me, that we aren’t just happy with mediocrity. Will do wonders for the psyche of the club in general. The mental state is the most important facet in any competitive arena.
Would hope Sissoko could do something similar for us, what Felliani, Yaya, Diame do for their respective clubs – raw power – also a favourite album of mine, as it happens.
Mbiwa is a burgeoning leader too, I believe.

Been in bed all day for work tonight. Any medicals occured as of yet? I’v had a quick look at the latest news.
Sissoko. Looking good for us. Pre-contract and a move in the summer? There is a little bit of confusion as to when he will be moving. Can anyone clarify this?
Gouffran. Fee agreed pending medical.
So to my knowledge, 3 players pending medicals now. With sissoko hot on their heels.
Exciting times!

Comment #348@334 Spread. I know. It’s just that Loic Remy, or being 1-0 up and coasting against Reading feeling that makes me nervous. Oh yes, it’s bloody exciting, but recent disappointments have really got me down. I just hope, there’s a silver lining!

Comment #350Say we do get all four players, do you think Pardew would have the balls to put all of them in the starting 11 against Villa? Given that almost every one of our first team players is under-performing? I dont think he would, Mbwia centre half and thats it I reckon, but our bench would look strong for the first time in about 2 years!

Comment #356Great news about the signings/potential signings..Hopefully this toughens up our team .The ability of a new striker to hit the ground running will be crucial whoever he will be.Also vital our big 5 players are not sold namely Krul, Collo,Cabaye,Tiotie and HBA..
We need to be sure that our coaching staff are good enough to blend the players into a winning formation and this is some thing that must be addressed.

Comment #357£4M bid for Charlie Austin perhaps? I’ve heard his naem banded about a lot, but never really wanted him here. Been watching him a lot lately, and he is the real deal. Be nice to close the window off signing a british player! And at 24 goals in 27 games this season, he. is. on. fire. :O

Minus the 5-6m he collected from Ba, makes it closer to a 15m net spend.
Will probably try and sell Colo for that 15m 🙂
