There’s no doubt that Alan Pardew lost support among some Newcastle fans over those last 30 minutes of the game with Reading on Saturday – which we ended up losing – but still remain only 5th bottom of the league table.
Alan Pardew – Reading just scored
The Newcastle manager has admitted to making errors in his substitutions against Reading, and it cost us all 3 points against a side who are now only 2 points behind us and who had previously been in the bottom two all season.
But Pardew is showing some courage, fortitude and some guts too, as he has said today he is more determined than ever to turn things around at Newcastle.
This is what he said in the local press today:
“None of it will deter me – if anything all of this makes me more determined to succeed with Newcastle.” “I will take the criticism from the fans. That is part of the job at Newcastle – I have to accept it.” “And I’m certainly not going to ignore it.”
“Once we get our best players on the pitch and fully fit again – and sign new players – I am confident we can get out of it.” “They are frustrated with the team and frustrated with me. But I can promise we will emerge stronger for it.”
“I can handle the situation. And I am determined to get it right.” “Those rumors (about getting the sack) are way off the mark. We are here to get it right.”
We hope Alan Pardew can turn it around with upcoming games next Wednesday and Saturday at Aston Villa and at home to Chelsea respectively – and these are now two massive games for Newcastle.
We think Mike Ashley has been extremely patient with the manager through almost three months of more than trying times – but if we lose the next two games – it’s hard to believe the owner would stick with Pardew for too long after that .
Especially if that means having to drop down to the Championship again for the second time in four short years.
I’d be very happy if we just survive this season – and with the number of players we could get in this month – Newcastle will then have a clear-out of players this summer, and we think we could be in great shape to take another crack at a top six place next season.
But first of all we have to stay up – that’s all that matters right now.

Comment #6Pardew needs to be more tactically astute. The Marvueax sub wasn’t a single game mistake. He made tactical blunders all throughout the season and that’s why we are where we are. We are probably the most predictable team this season where bottom clubs and heck even championship teams like brighton has outplayed us.
I have no faith in him. He needs individual brilliance to buy him out of trouble all the time. and paper the cracks over poor tactical management aspect of him. he’s not our long term answer. we need stability but not from him.
watch ben arfa come back and turn the season around for us. and it has nothing to do with pardew ability.

It will have shown him what way we bets play football and it will show ashley that without continuous investment you slide down the league.

Comment #11allways supported alan but after the reading game i became a hater then heard the reasons why cabaye came off and that he admitted he made a mistake and i became neutral as changing a manager half way through a season will definatly do no good unless the manager is way below par (i think alan is avg manager) but i really will be cheering him on and hopeing he does great (until he mucks up again)

Comment #13Ben Arfa is a real livewire in our attacks and his unpredictability makes sure the opponent defence are constantly watching him which allows us to buy time and move forward slowly.
We desperately need him to fire us up the table. He’s the key.

Agreed
As much I as I loved this Cheikh, for me he’s the most likely to be sold in our midfield. Too many silly yellow cards and by the looks, the number is not going down. Add to that he’s not been half the player he once was for the club, got similar demons to those of a certain Barton certainly not the same type tho.

I always thought he was a solid player but over rated by many.
He would be good to keep hold of as if we have him, cabaye, sissoko (hopefully), anita, marvoux thats a good bunch in midfield. Variety and they will all be fighting for places.

Comment #19No more excuses. If we get these signings in, there will be no place to hide for him. All these players want the ball and want to play football. At the minute, I’d say opinion is pretty evenly split on Pards, and how we perform with the new signings in the next month will determine his fate.
Even if he keeps us up by the skin of our teeth, then I see him out in the summer. However if we start playing good attractive football, and comfortably move up the table then I see him continuing.

Comment #21i thnk all that is happening is he being given more rope to hang himself with
its not the first time he has tried to shut up shop and got it wrong, and while the guy puts his faith in players like perch , jonas , shola, obertan, the noose is only getting tighter,,
its just a guess, but i recon they are out there looking at managers too, we have villa spuds chelski next 3, and villa an away game, i can not see us getting more than a point out of all those games 🙁
the whole thing needs a shake up

Comment #24How many defensive players are we buying? Sure it’s great but didn’t we just lose our top scorer and have our no. 9 well out of sorts, I am worried that we have not been linked with any top striker yet with the clock ticking… Ben Arfa has to play a free role behind the Cisse when he comes back….

Same for…the main goal is to make sure we survive.
But we have to also show some signs of evolving as a team and playing in a way which suits the lads we have.
The latter is starting to show so if Pardew can start picking up points and continue to improve the play I will be very happy for him to stay as it shows he has learned from the mistakes he made.

Comment #29I would love van wolfswinkel. He would be great just behind cisse when we play 442. He is like the exact opposite to cisse. Fast, tricky and a great finisher but I don’t think he has that strikers instinct. Some one said yesterday what striker would you like for 10mil and I thought of him however he probably cost a bit more

I agree, they are probably assessing other options at the moment if they decide to part with Pardew. However I don’t think it will happen as soon as you expect. I think we will stay up, but if we only just stay up, which I suspect could well be the case then he will be replaced at the start of the summer, with his replacement lined up ready to come in straight away.

Comment #31My only issue is ‘if’ we do sign M’bwia, Hadiera, Sissoko and Gouffran we still have no threat from set pieces.
Yeah Cabaye can score a free kick but his delivery from corners and set plays out wide are pants.
We need a good crosser of the ball and/or a decent CB who is not only tall (like Williamson) but powerful (unlike Williamson).
Even just someone who causes havoc in the box leaving other players unmarked. I’d love a Samba like player to go alongside M’bwia or even a Alderweireld who has superb delivery and can score free kicks from 40 yards.
You guys know what I mean.

Comment #34Ed I think you’re forgetting something (or probably avoiding it).
This summer “clear out” could well include the likes of Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Santon, and Colocini if he stays. Not looking bright I know but that’s the cost of being cheap in last summer which helped us in no way!

Comment #35Although I was as down as the next fan after the game on Saturday, I can’t help thinking that Ashley seeing this game has gave him the kick up the backside needed.
If we were sitting a tidy top half position of the table, would Ashley be spending the money? I’m not sure if he would!!
Any how, all positive things coming out of the club at the minute and I always said that I would reserve judgement at the end of January. So far so good, if rumours are to be believed!!

Comment #36Also I have defended Obertan from day 1 but I really believe the pressure has gotten in the way of his obvious talent.
I think we should use him to either get Gouffran for nothing (and allow Obertan ti return to his old club) or as a deal sweetener (give him Bordeaux/Toulouse on loan).

a manager should not be judged on what he can do with his best squad,
but on what he has availible at any one time,
pardew keeps asking for time to see him with his best players,, it will never happen, for what ever reasons
the thing is, the next thing he will say, is my new payers need time,
its just one big circle with pardew
he has had 23 league games , and failed in most
nocked out of both cups
the kids got him into the next stage of europe and he slated them
born loser

The problem with our corners is they are directed to williamson all the time, too predictable.
What we need is to just play the ball into a dangerous area, around the 6 yard box say 7/8 times out of 10 and then use a variation the other times.
If you put the ball in a dangerous area you will likely cause a mistake or have a player get on the end of it.
We try to overly complicate it but use a poor tactic.
