Still No Decision Reached On Coloccini Situation

8:39 am, Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 50 Comments

The meeting with the Newcastle Board, Fabricio Coloccini and his lawyers took place yesterday as scheduled, and the reports are that it lasted a long three hours, but that no decision has yet been reached on the situation – so what’s holding things up?

fabricio coloccini in action

Fabricio Coloccini – no decision reached yesterday

Newcastle top executive – Managing Director Derek Llambias – led the meeting but Alan Pardew was not part of the discussions, but we had expected some decision to have been reached – but that wasn’t the case for whatever reason.

Further talks are to follow – but it’s hard to know what’s really going on when you don’t know what the personal situation is of our captain – that has led him to wanting to leave the club in January to join San Lorenzo in Argentina.

Coloccini’s father is making this case all public (why?), which is hardly pleasing Newcastle,  and he had this to say about the meeting:

“There was an inconclusive meeting today. Tomorrow (Tuesday) there will be a decision, we both desire the transfer.”  Fabricio is very anxious, he wants a decision to be made one way or another. I believe this is the moment to move.”

“Newcastle have asked him to wait until May, the issue is if San Lorenzo will wait until that date.”  It would be beautiful if both of us were at San Lorenzo, the club we love. Fabricio is eager to return but he wants to do so in an elegant way”.

Well if you believe Colo’s dad – some decision will be announced today – but we’ll just have to wait and see.

To say this situation is weird is an understatement – and we’d be surprised if there is any other outcome than Newcastle tell him he needs to stay until the end of the season – period.

But i may not be as easy as that – for whatever reason.

Comments welcome.

I would be amazed if Colo was just allowed to walk away from the club regardless of personal issues. Football is after a business and Ashley, for all his wrongs has made close to a 25 million investment in Colo with the transfer fee and wages and there is no way that he’ll be allowed to walk away with NUFC not getting anything in return especially given our very precarious situation in the league.

Nancy confirm on their site this morning that Haidara is leaving their club and flying to Newcastle today. This was just put o their site at 6am this morning. Link:-

There are a few reports from yesterday indicating that San Lorenzo has a backer when it comes to agreeing a fee.

  • 4 Toon_Tom // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:43 AM

Mbiwa will be revieled today as the new Captain with Colo out the door.

The armband used as a weapon during negotiations

  • 5 G // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:43 AM

Agreed JackButler. MA is a businessman, and the deal would need to suit both parties, not just Colo. Even at his age, given his ability with a 4 year contract he has to be worth at least £7M. I looked at the San Lorenzo squad last week on Opta, and frankly all of their players wouldn’t even make our reserve squad. I just cant see how it would work out.

  • 6 TorqToon // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:47 AM

Good morning all. Latest from the Haidara deal direct from the horses mouth -

Nancy – Agreement with Newcastle – Haidara

‘The left back of ASNL (Association Sportive Nancy-Lorraine), Massadio Haidara is set to join Newcastle. Nancy and the English club have agreed to the transfer of the French U21 international. The transfer fee is around €3.5 million (with a percentage resale), a good deal for the Nancy officials. The player will sign for five and a half years with the Magpies. He is expected Tuesday in Newcastle to undergo a medical.’

    Repost from Previous Thread

So, Colo’s dad has said Newcastle have said to wait until May, but the issue is San Lorenzo may not wait that long. Well we better let him go now if San Lorenzo won’t wait till May….

To be honest, this is getting on my wick now, and the more it drags on and his dad and San Lorenzo come out with little statements, the more I think that there are no personal problems, and it is just Colo wanting out. Picture this, he joins San Lorenzo, they sell him and make a fortune, club set, we have egg on our face.

Not normally a conspiracy theorist, but something just doesn’t stack up here.

Why the secrecy Ed? Are you easy or not? ;)

Good morning all, ready for another day full of fun and games?

Colin confirming 2 in 1 out on twitter. So, ant ideas what’s REALLY happening!?

  • 10 Santon03 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:48 AM

He would probably allowed to leave, but not for free.
anyway is there any elegant way to leave a club in trouble by asking to terminate his contract?

  • 11 TorqToon // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:48 AM

  • 12 gonz // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:48 AM

    Alright lads,

I’ve recently been told some news about Colo and Mapou Yanga M’biwa and the situation. Now, whether it’s true or not is to be seen today, but I thought I’d share what I know.

So, basically we all know Colo and his advisers were meeting yesterday, which is now running through today for a conclusion which just so coincides with Mbiwa having his medical etc….right? Well, contrary to some reports saying Yanga is waiting on Arsenal is just journo twist when all it is really is that the player couldn’t make it into Newcastle cos of the weather (that’s believable) and since he didn’t make it in earlier we weren’t in a situation where NUFC can release a statement about Colo.

So, basically Colo is leaving and Yanga is his replacement. They put Colo off until today cos that’s when they’ll conclude the Yanga signing (possible others Sissokho, Haidara) as they were afraid of the backlash affect that would have on the club after the dismal results, demba leaving, remy U-turn and the recent Reading match were the crowd flipped on Pardew.

It’s quite possible the Colo leaving is only a temporary thing as he might get a months leave. Don’t know any of those details.

I’ve never claimed to be an ITK or anything like that. I’m always reading the blog and every now and then on I leave comments.

The only reason I’m putting this is because it does seem feasible and looks to make some sort of sense.

    Let’s see what happens today.

To answer about how reliable the source is.

I have to admit I don’t know the guy that well. He owns a box at St. James’ and I was invited by a colleague from work and met the lad and got chatting and exchanged numbers for future meetings. He just told me what he know’s, I don’t know his source and when he told me it sounded possible and kind of made sense.

Just thought you lot would like to know. Just have to sit back and wait and see if it’s true. If it is than I know I got somebody on the inside and will try and pass on as much info as I get. These things tend to be full of shit though.

  • 13 Brutooon // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:49 AM

If Colo heart is not here, then go release him!

  • 14 Santon03 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:51 AM

I think the hold up will be discussing what san lorenzo can give in return? money or player or something else?

  • 15 pieceofpapiss // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:52 AM

Markaccus: If Colin is saying that then it MUST be true…………..

Expect the opposite of what he say’s.

something else probably share of san lorenzo or free advertisment

    Llambias was the negotiator?

Hope Colo packed his bags before the meeting.

  • 20 Markaccus // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:54 AM

Gonz, you’re determined that everyone sees that! :D

Re san lorenzo’s attitude: deciding if they will ALLOW us to GIVE them our captain and putting a deadline on it, is like me offering to cut all your balls off and you paying me 20 quid, but that offer only lasts till thursday, if you don’t decide by then. I’l go and cut another blogs balls off instead. Arrogant b*st*rds

  • 25 Transfer Sage // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:56 AM

    This situation is very starnge.

Colo wanting to leave for personal reasons.

but everything from argentina seems it is for footballing reasons, not for anything serious.

  • 26 TorqToon // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:56 AM

@GFN_France: RECAP: #Mbiwa and #Haidara set for medicals today. Everything else agreed. Possible official confirmation today. #NUFC

  • 27 colwell // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:57 AM

Signing Mbiwa and selling Colo is not progression in my eye’s. Make him stay untill the end of the season, as the captain he should want too get us out of the shite before jumping ship.

  • 28 Markaccus // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:57 AM

Pappis, yes that’s what I thought. So wonder which ONE we will sign, and who the other one out is besides colo? :D

  • 29 pieceofpapiss // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:58 AM

    Markaccus: Simpson/Ranger hopefully

  • 30 ash1001 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:59 AM

    Dear Mr Ashley
I see you are currently discussing whether to let Coloccini leave Newcastle by scrapping his contract.
I was wondering whether with the same thought in mind if you would be prepared to refund 40,000 season ticket holders the balance that you hold for the forth coming games this season as we have ‘personal reasons’ as well – the difference is we will say what ours are – the team is not good enough and we fear relegation. and most of that is as a result of mismanagement at all levels within NUFC.
Hoping for a positive response but highly unlikely.
We remain faithful supports of the the TOON.

  • 31 89Norcal // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:59 AM

Please for the love of God, buy another CB to replace willo!

  • 32 Santon03 // Jan 22, 2013 at 8:59 AM

    Ibiza

If Colo is sold to another club (rich club), what do you reckon his price tag?

  • 33 Markaccus // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:00 AM

Papiss, too much to hope that the 2 out are simpson AND ranger, and colo stays!?

  • 34 JackButler // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:00 AM

Am I the only one that is seriously pi**ed at Colo for putting us in the situation???

He is supposed to be a professional footballer after all and that should be on and off the field especially as he’s out captain. If we were comfortable in the league then it would still be a massive blow but seeings as we are hovering over the relegation places is actions and the result of them and reprehensible.

Given that any new defender will need time to settle, Saylor spends most of the season on the treatment table and Williamson is well, useless, we need our captain more than ever

  • 35 Transfer Sage // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:00 AM

If colo is making all this noise about returning home (well his dad is but he could easily put out a statement if he wanted to stay) then he should have had the captaincy taken from him by now.

It’s a disgrace, get cabaye made captain, somebody who is talented and actually wants to fight for us.

  • 36 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:00 AM

Santon….Maybe both if Ashley includes some SD vouchers? ;)

Colwel….Whilst I don’t agree with just letting him go, if there is an issue you do have to wonder about his commitment to the club and whether he would be useful or detrimental to the club. It all depends on what is really going on.

  • 37 TorqToon // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:02 AM

TS – I agree ! I’d give Cab’s the armband in a heartbeat – although with Jonas being vice skip – I’m not sure they will overlook him.

  • 38 gonz // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:02 AM

    @Markaccus,

I am determined for everyone to see it for two reasons:

I believe it to be true.

And trying to keep it up with each new post so everyone can see it.

  • 39 hdavid23 // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:02 AM

i seriously don’t understand this Colo situation btw… i mean i’ve never been to Argentina, but surely healthcare must be a LOT better in the UK than there… okay, i know it’s also effin expensive, but the club could pay for the wife’s treatment and it’s a win-win for everyone

  • 40 Mister Tuff // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:03 AM

torq – I must say I know nothing about twitter -but somebody has clearly gone to some lengths wasting their time making things up. I really wonder how they can be bothered.

  • 41 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:03 AM

Why is it that his father is commenting on the situation and there is no statement from the person himself (grow a pair will you)!

…and where is the club in these matters (it’s all cloak and dagger! why?)

Even if Colo stays until the end of the season why would club release him for free so he can sign for San Lorenzo who says they cannot pay for him (when has this become a charity thing?)

  • 42 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:03 AM

Santon….I really don’t know mate. I’d stab a guess at anywhere around £8m given his ability, age and length of contract….what I do know is he’s valued at more than £0.

JB….Not angry at all, I think it’s great business to let our captain leave for free. We may not see the benefit now, but all will become clear…keep the faith :) (100% a joke, in case it’s not clear)

  • 43 Transfer Sage // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:03 AM

    jack

    Couldn’t agree more.

It was only 1 year ago he signed this contract, if he didn’t want to he shouldn’t have signed it.

  • 44 goldenbolux // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:06 AM

I think this thing with colo is pathetic
    Everyone knows
And I mean everyone that his wife caught him with his girlfriend from crammy
Anyone that gives him any sympathy needs to jog on
He played about and got caught
She has gone back to Argentina and left him with the kids
This isn’t a recent development, this is the reason why he has been crap too this season. He got caught and obviously the pressure of dealing with it has got to him.
Come on though, lets be honest he should just man up.
If you play around and get caught you need to deal with it and get your dad to make some pathetic excuse for you.
Personally I would rather he be gone if he is gonna act like this.
Sorry for this rant but we need to stop all this sympathy crap
If any of us got caught would we get any of this sympathy

  • 45 geordie157 // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:07 AM

The Colo situation is bugging me, it’s bad enough if he leaves, but San Lorenzo have nothing to offer us, no fee, no players (the only one in their squad i’ve heard of is Stracqualursi).

Hopefully he will stay until the summer. regardless of what happens Mbiwa alone is not enough we need two centre backs, one of them pref is a beast a Hangeland type but with a bit of pace.

hoping Mbiwa and Haidira are confirmed today, Sissoko hopefully to follow and Thauvin. two of those are more for the future so another experienced player or two is still needed really. Especially as i’m worried Saylor will come back and only last a few games.

  • 46 Santon03 // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:11 AM

    Ibiza

Well.. If I were Ashley, I will say to san lorenzo : “You are asking me to give away 8 million, what can you give me in return? 10% of your shares?”

  • 47 south coast toon // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:12 AM

this is bisar, if you had personal problems both you and your family would not want them all over the web and papers, can any sane person expect a team to just let a quality centre back go of collos quality and value for nothing. even we dont try to get 10 mil players with 4 yrs left on the contract.this situation will not of helped us getting players in, and as for elagent….ffffffff agree with torq toon on this 1 who the f do they think they are. something stinks here.

collo “can i leave on a free transfere and leave you in the sh1t to go and play for my dads team back in argentina”
ashley”r u completley off your head, we didnt give the falklands away and i didnt pay 10 mil for them ,now get down to cleephorpes and buid some sand castles on the beach, cause yer not going home to play wid yer daddy on the beach now”

  • 48 ballerfan2 // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:24 AM

As no one really knows the facts I’m putting in my 2 pence worth. We hear nothing from Collo because he is embarrassed by the whole situation – his own folly (allegedly) his own father’s interference and the knowledge that he as captain is somewhat responsible for the situation the team find themselves in. He is almost certainly aware that he is in NUFC’s debt but torn by the fact that his life partner(?) is 5000 miles away and he should be doing something to sort it. I know I would if I was in that situation. Collo is between the proverbial rock and a hard place and I think the club are trying very hard to accommodate his dilemma. NUFC have acted humanly and honourably. throughout, giving nothing away to the press and suffering negatively asa result. Meanwhile Collo’s dad acts like an idiot thinking he is helping ….????

  • 49 sir_norman // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:26 AM

remember that a certain carlos tevez wanted to leave man city because of homesick?? this is all look too familiar with tht situation and i bet tevez gave colo the advice to do same thing too. this is all about the money for colo and his dad. a few months at san lorenzo, then he will leave for some arabian or chinese league that pays crazy money in terms of wages.

  • 50 south coast toon // Jan 22, 2013 at 9:48 AM
