Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias seem to be doing their jobs in the January transfer window (which they didn’t do last summer), and it looks like we’ll be signing three more players today and tomorrow – Yoan Gouffran, Massadio Haidara and hopefully Moussa Sissoko.
Massadio Haidara – should be signing today
Andof course our second signing through the door in January was yesterday, and it was French International Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, and he is a seasoned player in the French league – and his experience and leadership should be a big boon for Newcastle in the final 15 games of what has been a terrible season – so far.
The new boys will have a chance to train with the team for a number of days before we face Aston Villa at Villa Park next Tuesday night – and we must take something out of that game.
Alan Pardew is well aware that a relegation fight will be a new experience for his incoming Frenchmen:
“This will be new for the French players.” “They have not been in a scrap at the bottom of the English Premier League. Now they are going to be fighting to help us stay in this division. They have to be strong enough.”
“The French players we have here are quickly learning what English football is all about.” “They saw on Saturday that everything was rosy at half-time. They were in front and on top of the game. Then in the second half it changed.”
“There is pressure in English football and games can change quickly. We will have to talk about that; it has affected us.”
If we can do well next Tuesday night it’s very likely to be a full house against European Champions Chelsea a week on Saturday at St. James’ Park – even after our pathetic second half showing against Reading.
And maybe we can get a different result at St. James’ Park this time?
Hope so.

just seen your response.
But surely there are parts of Africa maybe far north or south where football could take place in the summer.
You could have a summer tournament in those countries in say june 2014…then a winter tournament in a hotter country in jan 2016, then back to a summer one in june 2018.
so would be only 1 disruption every 4 years to major leagues in europe where a lot of those players play.

Comment #43For once in a VERY long time everybody seems upbeat about the Transfer Window! That article about 5 players in 11 days actually seems possible! M’Biwa, Gouffran, Haidara, Sissoko, RVW? 🙂

Comment #46Tiote is a quality player.. Think his problem is he’s been too comfortable as he knows no matter What he’s obviously on the team sheet there’s only perch to challenge his spot .. Hopefully competition for places will get him back to his best where chelsea were contemplating a 25mill bid

Comment #48You guys have give Ashley a hard time. He hasnt been rash and sacked pardew. He has spent nearly 17mil on playersand is getting more involved in transfers. What more do you want in a chairman? Yes he had a terrible start as the owner but it looks like he knows what he is doing. Any way here is my dream team;
krul
debuchy mbia collo santon
Anita (sissoko if he joins)
Cabeye
Benny Gouffran
Wolfswinkle
Cisse
Now that is a team who should be challanging champions league!

Comment #49if Cashley wants to spend big on striker ( DOUBT IT ) i still say Leandro Damiao 18-25 mill and if he came to Newcastle he will score about 50-60 goals per full season and could be sold around the 50-60 mill mark or even more

Comment #50Don’t wish to over execite anybody – but I’m hearing that Sissoko is at Benton for talks and there’s a “strong possibility” that the deal has been ironed out for a move this window.
Man our medical team are earning their money!!

Comment #55TS…what ever happens I am convinced that the current structure of the ACON has outlived its purpose.
…it will have to change (any other tournament has.)

Well it is difficult for them. If thats what they think is best for players, will be right temp to produce best football and therefore sell more tv rights, etc…then it’s difficult to change them.
A lot of these countries are in poverty although I don’t imagine a lot of that money gets to grass roots football never mind helping people who need it.

Gouffran was there on another shot though.

Comment #66Can we take a moment here and applaud a certain Ben Arfa? He came out last week saying he would stay at Newcastle IF they showed ambition. Clearly that message was received loud and clear by Mr. Ashely. Vive la revolution.

Comment #68TS…It is a problem and money is probably the biggest concern.
…I would think FIFA would compensate them (to some extend).
*but at some point the reat of the football world is going to ask FIFA why the ACON gets special treatment and why the big leagues has to pay the penalty! That’s been the argument from FIFA; plus the issues with the FIFA International calender.

Comment #73Looks like mick lowes was in thw know concerning our transfer dealings, he is the type of fella who would not nail his colours to the mast unless he was pretty sure about it, sissoko would be an extra bonus for sure, maybe a pre contract for him to join in the summer?
Van wolfswinkel stories are gathering pace, a real quality kid this aa well, We all need this lift, but our manager gas to change his mindset concerning our style of play, he is draining all of the positivity our of us fans with his negative style of play, and it needs a shake, new player will get the message soon enough what the manager is about. Is he for change, well we are bringing decent quality in, lets start playing mote quality football an get us out of this predicament, they need as we all know to hit the ground in a sprint!

Comment #78Yes, Roosta, got to be something in it if Mick was that confident, as he’s usually in the right ball park with incomings and outgoings etc. He did say we were seriously advanced with two £8m players on top of the other players we’re linked with.
M’Biwa is one of them, but is the other one the equivalent of Sissoko at full price, but we’re getting him for less I wonder, or is that discounting that? Interesting, especially with more announcements hopefully to be made soon.
May the good news keep coming!
