The news in the Newcastle Journal this morning is that Newcastle are indeed making a move for Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who Newcastle were after in the summer of 2010 when he was still at FC Utrecht, and it seems the Dutch International is open to a move to Newcastle, although it appears that some other clubs are also interested in the 23 year-old.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel – Newcastle favored to sing striker
It was reported in the Portuguese press yesterday that Newcastle were in the lead to land the £10M rated striker, although it seems that Tottenham, Liverpool and Cologne are also interested in the player.
van Wolfswinkel’s agent Lous Laros has not denied there is Newcastle interest in his client, but it seems that Sporting Lisbon would want very good money to part with their top scorer, half way through the season.
This is what Laros told the Journal:
“I won’t name specific clubs as that is a private matter, but what I will say is there is big interest in Ricky from England.” “I have passed on this information to Sporting and it is up to them to come to any agreement and then we could negotiate.”
“Can something happen this month? In football, you just never know what might happen. We are laid-back about the situation.” “Ricky is like any player in that he is ambitious and the Premier League is a fantastic place. He is happy for the moment in Lisbon. There have been reports that he has requested a transfer, but that is not true.”
“I know the club well. I spoke to them a lot in the summer when they tried to buy Luuk de Jong, who is also our player. They are not in such a good position right now in the league, but that is a good club.”
Newcastle have moved with lightning speed to sign Mapouu Yanga-Mbiwa of Montpelier yesterday, and are also lined up to sign Nancy’s left back Maassadio Haidara and Bordeaux striker Yoan Gouffran today.
Newcastle are also after French International midfielder Moussa Sissoko, and the reports are that Newcastle will sign him on a pre-contract agreement and he will move in the summer – but why wouldn’t Toulouse accept a fee from Newcastle this month and make the deal permanent?
They’ll get nothing for him in the summer, so we think that’s what’s going to happen with Moussa (we hope it does too) – but it would be great if we can also get Ricky van Wolfswinkel through the door too.

Comment #6does anybody think Ashley has been the victim of credit card fraud?
He went to pay for a gregs pasty and somebody stole his details and has been running around buying us these players?
Get more signed before he notices.

Comment #7Pretty sweet if we can land this guy as well.
I’m sure it’s Ashley, when the hell have we had this success with lambias doing the talking.
That bushy eyebrows piece of human waste is probably landed a job shampooin Ashley’s bag.
He’d screw that up to I’m sure

Comment #8It’s becoming more and more clear….the poison in our club is not MA, but rather DL…he needs to be sacked Mike…You have given him a job to do, he ain’t doing it = time to go….We need a Chris Mort type lad in there, with a smiling friendly face…not that horrible sulking face of DL
Totally shocked and really happy with Mikes contribution to what is looking to be our best ever transfer window…touch wood 🙂

Comment #9TS….Brilliant. If they could find a way to process it on his bill as either a casino purchase or food he may not cotton on for a while yet.
Yo…It’s all making me slightly nervous…as with any abusive relationship you always have to wonder when things start looking good 🙂

Comment #11Ashley was very badly hurt by the whole remy saga , he is many things but has one massive ego
Tony Fernandez is a pauper in comparison although the Indian backers ave a bob or two
But the papers suggesting Fernandez out foxed Ashley did us a real favour
Beware be very beware of the spurned billionaire

Comment #15Despite the fact Llambias is more thaan likely a terrible person, he’s excellent at his job. Once Carr & Pardew identify a player, Llambias goes to work on negotiating a price. He’s ruthless at it & is one of the main reasons we pick up so many bargains. In Freddy Shepard’s case, the club would want say £5m and he’d offer £10m. With Llambias we’re getting quality players for next to nowt.

Comment #16Wolfswinkel is very similar to Cisse, or am I wrong? Decent striker, but if we can get siem de jong for that he’s much better value.

Comment #17Okay…if everything goes our way this window (I am almost afraid to write that :)) then surely we have a couple of players we need to offload and a few who we meed to consider going out on loan.
I am thinking:
Out:
– Simmo (we can still collect a fee)
– Xisco (maybe someone will take him on loan a pay a part of his wages)
Loan:
– Sammi
– Fergy
– Abeid
– Tav
*depending on the outcome of the Colo debacle, we might need another CB!

Comment #18Wolfswinkel? at first I thought it was a joke posting!
But all credit to MA for getting players in. I just hope that they turn out to be worthy of gracing our famous Black & White stripes.
Oh my God, if all this turns out like all true Toon fans want, I’ve just realised we’ll have to be nice to MA & DL. But I think I could live with that.

Comment #26Problem with dl, is he’s almost to cheap. Granted we’ve had some bargains but we’ve got a bad rap in Europe to some degree by placing in some welfare bids. If someone offered us 5mil for Ben arfa. What would they say?
I wonder if they try to land wolfswinkle, and dr Jong (either one) in the summer. And hope poopiss has a good rest of the season and offload him?

Comment #29RVW we need more than Siem at the moment I would say, we have Cabs, Marv and HBA who can play the CAM role but only Cisse who can really play out and out striker (Sholas a grand impact sub but thats all these days) and Gouffran will be a winger for us surely seems to be where he is best suited imo
I think Siem is a summer target (probably the same with RVW tbh but u never know)

Comment #33Even though lambias comes across as out of his depth this year you can’t dismiss previous signings under his control. For me Ashley realised he could’nt risk delays in this window due to the league position and had to come in face first – you can imagine trying to get him to OK things at the end of a phone line what with all his other business dealings was a slow and fraught process, so to say that things have moved quicker with Ashley hands on is a bit out of order. Still like Chris Mort back though – or even better a specialist footy knowledgeable MD

Comment #37@15 Special K. Very interesting, and to some degree i have to agree with you. It’s ok having a great scout (Carr), but what we are really seeing in motion is long term relationship/admin management by ’employees’ of the club, as these signings have not been clutched from mid air. If it wasn’t for Fat Harry &co, Remy would be here too, so there has been a lot of work going on with clubs, agents, players way before Jan 1st…
Somebody is doing a very good job indeed… and it’s all about Ashley making the money available.
This whole idea (as posted on this blog) of NUFC setting up an office in Paris all seems to be bearing fruit…. and i for one, laughed it off as ridiculous! I guess i was wrong! 😉
