San Lorenzo Say Coloccini Staying At Newcastle

3:54 pm, Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 858 Comments

There is news just been posted on the San Loremzo FC site (their official twitter account) that Fabrico Coloccini will not be joining their roster – so it looks like Fabricio  will be staying at Newcastle.

fabricio coloccini in action

Fabricio Coloccini – staying at Newcastle

The is the short statement from Lorenzo FC:

“Finally, after long negotiations, we announced that Fabricio Coloccini not join the roster of Lorenzo”  “It was not possible to release the Newcastle player and therefore the club will look for another alternative to strengthen the defense.”

There has been uncertainty at Newcastle for several weeks now regarding the future of the Newcastle captain, so if this news is true – it’s even more good news for Newcastle fans this week -a dn indeed the news is being reported elsewhere – so we assume it’s true.

Fabricio Coloccini has some personal problem, and his wife and two kids have returned to Argentina, and Fabricio made it clear to Newcastle that he wanted to quit the club he has been at almost five years,  to return to Argentina.

It was only last March that Fabricio signed a new contract – said to be worth £60K/week – that will keep him at Newcastle until the summer of 2016, but of course we don’t know if he will be returning to Argentina this summer.

But the San Lorenzo statement seems to suggest they will be looking for other defenders, and they had said Coloccini would have to join them this week, or else their pursuit of him would end.

This is not official news yet, but the statement has been posted on the FC San Lorenzo site – and we are hoping for the best – and we assume Newcastle will be making a statement shortly, although his father usually beats everybody to it. :D

But it sounds like more good news for Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

What will be Pardew`s excuse if we loose the next three games

  • 13 Markaccus // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:02 PM

IF they gel instantly, we will beat villa. If not, I’m not sure. If the DON’T gel in 2 or 3 games time (ie if they’re still playing poor AFTER the chelsea game) then even I will be looking at the Manager. (Bano, I believe we may have just come to a middle ground on this! :D )

  • 14 GeordieAnt // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:03 PM

Wait a second, someone said on an earlier thread that maybe he was looking for a move away due to us not strengthening in the summer…now we’ve brought in 4 (potentially 5 depending on what happens with Sissoko)…he’s staying. Colo is actually a mastermind…he had this planned all along…what a captain.

Can someone tell me why there is big money coming in for PL clubs next season?!

  • 16 JackButler // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:04 PM

We need to keep the status quo until the summer, his performances over the last couple of games have shown that he’s professional on the pitch at least, stripping him of the am band now could cause more problems than we need.

    darrenfletcher
Hes only captain because we had no other player who could take over from Nolan at the time, hes a poor captain on the pitch and doesn’t lead players plus he has enough on his plate atm without needing to be captain oh and the small matter of him not wanting to be here anymore is slightly worrying for our leader on the pitch

Thanks for the advice though I will chose to stay as loud as I am cheers

#13 my latest article instigated that Pardew now has all the things he has asked for. He has no more excuses left.

This will show AP for what he is. If he manages to kill the optimism and feel good factor these signings (and Colo) brings then dont mind me if I dont hold back.

I will go down on record to say that I think he will on some level. I am just hoping it isn’t completely!!

it´s gonna be fab second half of the season :) if we sign wolfswinkel then we should have an ideal attackers for playing 442 and 433 – i always liked strikers with different skills between them- i mean fast/pass and strong/finisher – so i can see some link up play in our attack finally

  • 27 Williamsonsuks // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:08 PM

What has changed? Either Ferguson calling us a ” Wee Nothern club” or Benny saying ” Need to show ambition” or maybe just the fatman getting a conscience. Whatever it is totally loving it.HWTL
If Ashley has turned the corner, good on him. I’ve been his worst critic, and don’t mind eating my words if he carries on the way he is :)

  • 28 WWYCD // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:09 PM

Actually I am being harsh on Colo he is a good captain but only when things are going well imo back against the walls he has no answers and goes quiet which isnt what we need when we are falling apart for me

When we were really in the sh*t Nolan and Barton would run through our lads and get them fighting for the club when was the last time Colo has take a chunk out of one of ours after they cocked up?

A club captain sets an example on and off the pitch im sorry but colo should not have the armband, he’s acted completly unprofesionally, no statement, wanted the club to simply release him and let his old man run his mouth
On the pitch his heads been elsewhere and he has not been vocsl at all hasnt barked orders at the lads or tried to keep morale up on the pitch, if anything this situation has probablt been a factor in low morale
Sorry but we made him captain a good faith and he’s blown his shot, move over, keep your down, keep your pants up, concentrate on getting the team back up the table and re earn the right to wear the armband rather than wearing it as a sweetner to keep him here

I totally agree mate, but I don;t think that given our current situation now is the right time to change our captain, come the summer yes, but right now we need to focus on other things within the club and stripping him of the armband now could have adverse effects on him and other players. We should leave it as it is for now and make the change come the summer

  • 47 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:14 PM

If this is true and he is staying at Newcastle. I think it’s very important Colo himself should give up the captains role as it is the right thing to do.

There is no point trying to appease him. He has shown his desire to leave and we now know his true intentions. This will probably happen in the summer.

Our captain has just wanted to leave us midway through a season 2 points above relegation. With injury problems during our worst run in the premier league. On top of just losing our top scorer.

Tbh, Im unsure who to give it to. Someone who speaks English and French of course. Who in our squad speaks both languages?

  • 63 sirtoongospel // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Colo wanted away and still does. We just won’t let him. Cabaye fr captain for me. Saylor and Mapou at CB. We need to move forward. An unhappy captain isn’t what we need. New pkayers need to hit the ground running and Cabaye as captain will see that happen. It might also allow Colo time to concentrate on family more and not club commitments as captain. Just a personal view though

  • 64 Williamsonsuks // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:22 PM

Colo should keep the armband. Hard to say about his cataining abilities when our defence has been so poor. Simpson and Williamson are pathetic and Santon has had no cover from midfield when he’s been caught up field.
Mbiwa will give Colo a lot more confidence. I reckon we’re gonna see the best of Colo now.

  • 65 WWYCD // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:22 PM

Saylor would be a good captain IF he could stay fit (and had the ability to count to 10 :)) but he cant which rules him out for me no point having a captain if hes only talking to the medical staff

I disagree mate i think letting him keep will have a negative effect on the squad, people said about how ba wanting out had a negative attitude on the team well for me this is no different, he wanted to jump ship in a relegation battle and let his family make it public knowledge i think a few of the lads will begrudge him keeping the armband tbh
I agree with toon prodigy as a mark of respect he should give up the arm band

  • 73 jimmyxavi // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:23 PM

    LOL @Everyone bashing Colo now!

Not once has he said he wants to leave, not once has the club said he wants to leave, not once has he been a bad captain on the pitch – Watch the games when they finish, still goes and pats everyone of our players on the back!

His dad has said he wanted to leave for personal reasons, but wanted to do it in a professional manner. Look he did the right thing, sat down with the club, talked it through and he is staying! If he had been shouting his mouth off in the press or not turning into training and not giving his all on the pitch i’d understand!

Some of you need to get a grip, why do you think AP wants to keep him, he is an influential character and changing captain at this stage would cause serious ramifications in the squad.

Oh and stop saying it’s his form has dropped, the whole teams form has dropped – He has played with some poor players this season!

  • 75 JackButler // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:24 PM

There is no way that Saylor should be anything more than club captain, we need our captain to be a first choice player and be able to play more than 15 games a season, Cabaye would be my choice as team captain, but as we don;t know what type of mind set Colo is in right now, we have to trust that Pardew will make the right call, scary thought I know, but what other choice do we have

Pardew will now have 3 games to save himself. You or I or anyone here could manage this new squad and still beat Villa – Pardew however might prefer playing hoof-ball and going for a draw. If so I reckon Ashley will play hoof-ass with Pardew, and bring in someone who understands the modern game – preferably RDM.

  • 83 check the toastie // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:26 PM

Colo is captain of the club, and should remain that way if he so wants, as long as he is captain it is a good sign that his heart is in it.

Its all about performance on the pitch and at the weekend he was just fine. If he is stripped of captaincy the club might as well just give him a one way ticket to Argentina. Hardly good management.

We should be kissing his arse for the next 5 month and try and get some deal done with some Argentinian side who may pay the going rate in the summer.

Football is football, peoples personel life is real, is anybody saying if they had serious personel problems, family breakdown not seeing kids etc, they wouldnt like it sorted. Get real, hope he stays however as people have said he has a number of options still left to him.

Do you think listening to someone who wants out give orders on the pitch is going to inspire the team?
Do you think he’ll be giving rousing speeches and bollockings at half time? If he does you think the lads will take him seriously?
No, when was the last time you heard one of our players talk about how inspiring and passionate the captain was?
Colo for me will have lost some respect from his team mates and doubt they will take him seriously as captain he’s made his role untenable

How can you say Colo’s form has dropped?

For 90% of the season he’s had to play alongside Willo. In other words, he’s basically had to do the job of 2 CB’s in arguably the toughest league in the world. Give the man a break.

  • 95 toon1707 // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:30 PM

Good now San Lorenzo and his father can shut up and fu@k off they should never have went public with his desire to leave and his desire to join them for free ( cheeky gits) that was a blatant form of tapping up

It Doesn’t matter who wears the armband, with Colo, Cabaye and Mbiwa we have at least 3 captains on the field.

  • 97 BelfastMagpie // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:30 PM

He’s already had a negative affect on the team, by wanting to f*** off half way through the season anyway. Plus he’ll be gone in the summer.

Could there be merit in letting Colo have a couple of weeks off to sort his family issues out now we have cover for him in Saylor and MYM. We could always recall him if/ when Saylor gets injured.A gesture from Newcastle that we understand his problem,s maybe what he needs to sort his head out.

  • 100 NUFCarter // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:32 PM

I reckon haidara and gouffran are signed up. But it wont be confirmed till later this evening like the mbiwa deal yesterday. Judging by the photo released by nufc of mbiwa holding up his shirt. It was still light outside and way before the time the deal was confirmed.

    @toonarmy

I’ve always had reservations about the lead by example type captains and my preference is Cabaye. But having said that I think if you strip him of the captaincy then you have to expect his performance level to drop and for him to leave at the earliest opportunity. Conclusion: San Lorenzo may have conceded defeat but this is a shallow victory, the damage is done

  • 108 Kazzy // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:37 PM

Shola ameobi shud be captain :O

  • 109 sirtoongospel // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:38 PM

Leazes, Colo is a mess at the minute. That’s a fact. He wants to walk. The club won’t let him. You say that because we pay him he should just suddenly be fine? When has that ever been the case with an unhappy player?

JimmyXavi, Colo has been shite. Ever since Suarez tore him a new A-Hole. He hasn’t led us well at all. His form has been woeful, just as bad as Willo.

San Lorenzo can’t afford him, NUFC rightly stood their ground, but the fact remains that he wanted away. Even Pardew said as much. I would rather he had the pressure taken off him for a few weeks an then we might just keep a top class defender for years to come, rather than his contract being cancelled and it going to a tribunal.

Taking him away from the limelight and the armband going to the brilliant Cabaye can’t be a bad thing. If and when Colo is in a good frame of mind, he can start games again

  • 110 toonbrother // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:39 PM

With Colocinni in defence we always concede goals regardless of who partners him. With Mbiwa playing alongside him the situation will be the same.just watch

    Yeah I’ll add you :)

  • 112 surreytoon // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:41 PM

to be clear, leading by example is a good thing but not by itself, a captain should be vocal i.e. motivate, give players advice, kick up the arse – the whole package and I think Colo is too quiet. Having said that it is he who apparently took Barton to task when he kicked off when we played Leeds (I think)

  • 113 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:41 PM

We all no what happened in the Ba situation. it does not help to appease players when they already have it in their minds to leave.

If we were to appease Colo for the rest of the season, then he gets his wish to leave in the summer, that is 6 months we could of been blooding our new captain in.

Add to the fact is head has been completely out of it for the past 3 weeks. Or for longer for all we know. This hasn’t just came about, I very much doubt.

This is a very delicate situation. And i can’t say I trust Colo to drag us back up where we need to be. For me, he has shown me he lacks the fight already.

Re the Colo situation …. In a perfect world we could tell Colo to knuckle down get us out of trouble then give him compassionate leave once we are safe ! We need him now but in the next 10 games say we pick up the required points for safety it’s a win win situation which can then be resolved outside of the bubble !

And bloggers saying that injuries are the main reason for our current predicament are totally clueless, and obviously easily brainwashed.

We have now won 2 out of 18 games, even Mick Macarthy at Sunderland had a record better than that.
I reckon Bradford would be capable of better form with a bunch of 2nd division players, if we were 10th,12th i could sort of accept injuries have had an affect, but our current run is down to our coaching staff, of which Pardew is in charge.

Are we saying 2 wins out of 18 matches is acceptable, if we have some more injuries at any time does it mean we have no right to win a game. Pardew comes out with some shit, which i am getting used to.

However the stupid selections and tactics over the last 18 months have worn me down, he is on borrowed time, he must change or he will be out.

The man has had Marv fit all year and he only started using him when Jonas was injured, again young Bigi did really well in tough games at Man Utd and Arsenal (Shola brought straight back in), Obertan played canny Man Utd Arsenal, binned for Shola.

I think you are getting my drift, he is responsible for attitude and mindset, as soon as Shola and Jonas are selected it equals defeat as our football stops as soon as it ends up at both there feet. Why can he not see this.

Keeping the ball is how you see games out, not back to the wall defending, Jerk. Reading had 10 minutes of the game and lets change everything around, a total lack of bottle and outdated tactical nous.

Nothing has changed since saturday in this respect.

He will always never get the most out of this team and club. Hope he has enough to keep a team full of top class international footballers up, then sack him in the summer if the footy doesnt improve by then.

Already making excuses about how a relegation battle will be difficult for our new signings, i will give him credit for passing responsibilty, he is a master at that.

Todays Pardew Rant Concluded. I Thank You…

You can’t seriously believe what you have just written. As bad as Williamson.

No one on this blog knows the true reason as to why he (apparently, he has never stated it, pardew and his dad just said he was having personal problems) wants to leave. He was our best player against Norwich, played well against Reading, neither goal was his fault. The whole team has been playing poor! He has kept out of the press whilst many others in the past haven’t.

How any fan can slag the club captain off on some rumours from twitter like “he got some bird preggers” or “he doesn’t like our style of play” is beyond me. Maybe he has got some lass pregnant or maybe his wife want’s to move home and has threatened to leave without him! How do we know OR maybe she is ill! Who the fuc* knows!

Oh and what if he is homesick! Is he not allowed to be? If this is the case, atleast he went down the right channels and has accepted to stay until at least may!

Leazes, I agree, but personal problems are something that needs sorting asap. Not so easy when the issue has shot to the other side of the world.

Time off is good idea, but that’s why a new captain needs to be in place while he sorts himself out. I want Colo for 4 years not 6 more months unwillingly.

Also, of we win a few games things might seem better with less pressure on the field.

Fingers crossed it gets sorted but it is hard to be confident when he was so desperate to go.

I can’t wait for the next two games though. Convinced we have a superstar defender on our hands and his pace will be a massive asset.

  • 163 Joe Blog // Jan 23, 2013 at 4:59 PM

Haven’t read the comments, so somebody has probably already said this, but you either strip him of the captaincy and drop him, or give him the power to decide to relinquish it, accepting that he isn’t going to bs around much longer but will continue to be a professional, if he decides he’s keeping it and can put his issues completely aside until the summer, then that’s fine too, but once you strip him of it, you can’t expect him to be in a good frame if mind and able to produce top draw performances.

Leazes – I’m the opposite, I’m thankful for signing gouffran as a forward/winger but I’m not so sure he will chip in with as many as Ba did. Hopefully the rest of the team will contribute with goals but its a lot of pressure in cisse.

That Toulouse chairman seems like a piece of work, he is adamant sissoko won’t play again for them in he stays so he really wants some money for him. If sissoko wants to come here it plays in our hands and allows us to make a low offer. Hopefuly sissoko won’t go elsewhere or has a precontract agreement with us so Toulouse accept the low offer.

As for colo, great he is staying but that’s our wish not his. How is he going to perform now he has to stay? If he is goin to be disinterested until the Summer or not fully commited then I’d rather he went. How he performs in the villa game is key. Hopefully he has enough about him not to sulk and will keep his head up. Strange choice of captain to start with but I’m not sure stripping him of the captaincy will make him more commited, it might demotivate him further.

Agree with what people have been saying… Colo’s form has been poor – I’ve felt that a lot of the blame for our poor defence has been placed solely on Williamson, when in fact Colo and Santon have been just as poor.

The argument is Colo will play better with a better CB like Mbiwa beside him, we’ll see. Glad he’s staying up until May at least.

JB- I wouldn’t be so sure. Sissoko will not want to sit on the bench until the Summer. So if we don’t pay for him now, he’ll still want to leave this window and will then start looking at his options. It will be a BIG mistake if Ashley doesn’t pay £2.5million for a top class player. I do believe we’ll get him, but nothhings certain. The thing that really annoys me is the fact that big fat Harry “DogFace” Redknapp will stick his nose in! C’mon Ashley! Get it Done!

Shola has started 4 league games this season – so he’s hardly the undroppable teacher’s pet you fantasise about – and jonas is just back from injury – during which time the team rolled from defeat to defeat in his absence – not only is your logic childish and simplistic – it’s completely wrong. You never mention Cisse – 3 goals (2 intentional) in 17 starts I notice.

He looks pretty strong and quick, and, like Mapou-Mbiwa, appears to be decent on the ball ..

“Not once has he said he wants to leave, not once has the club said he wants to leave”

Absolutely sterling stuff you fool. Pardew saying that they would address the issues and the talks for the last 3 days must be a figment of my imagination!!!

As for supporting him, no one has sung his name louder than me, but at what stage has Colo stepped up and spoken out? He has bottled it and let his dad do all the talking.

The whole situation has been poor, and Colo hasn’t been the innocent party has he? Finally, you say ” how dare you say his form has dropped “, but you then say the whole team has dropped?? Does Colo not play for our team? His form has been shocking. Away to Stoke, Fulham, and several home games he has been very very poor.

The fans want him to stay, we all do. But not on the basis that our Captain is so unhappy. The new players don’t need that. We need a fresh start with a fresh attitude. From the top down.

You say Colo has agreed to stay. How has he! We have refused to release him and there is a BIG difference. Nothing has changed with Colo, other than we have basically told his dad’s club to f*** off, and rightly so.

Indeed, very shrewd business by MA (I’m assuming). If he pulls all these transfers off I think he deserves some credit. I know we are shaky about his ambitions (top 5 or staying up) but he HAS gone after all the players we wanted, and netted the one we wanted and needed most in Mbiwa.

  • 233 nick_9 // Jan 23, 2013 at 5:37 PM

I think we probably want sissoko in the summer but surely he would want a pretty decent signing on fee and more than what Toulouse want now?

Bafitimbi Gomis – is out of contract in the summer, he is a 1 in 3 striker and has a consistent scoring record for the past seven years. He can also sign a Pre contract agreement now for the summer.

Pardew mentioned we were looking at two players around 8 million (euros?) and I suspect it was Remy as mbiwa so it shows we are prepared to spend 15 million.

We don’t know what the problem is/was! Maybe it was blown out of proportion and he was not the one pushing for a move. We just don’t know. I just could not see Ashley creating a precedent and letting him go at a knock down price. He appeared totally focused on Saturday which has not always been the case this season. Arguably playing in a back four containing Simpson a d Williamson not helping him. For the Villa game I would start him with Yanga and leave Saylor on the bench. However let Colo concentrate solely on playing and give the captaincy to Cabaye. It’s an honour to captain the toon as Nolan always showed. Cabaye is a giant amongst men. ( can you hear the roar) with the additional French influence at the club he would be a good choice. Do not be surprised though if nothing changes. I hear that Ferguson was watching Celtic against Dundee United last night. Supposedly watching Victor Wanyama who is a young strong CB that I rate. Mind you if I was recommending anyone it would be Gary Hooper who could be a good buy for us but not cheap at £8 million and were probably looking for better value.

  • 248 check the toastie // Jan 23, 2013 at 5:51 PM

Another boring post by Ruddy, takes it up to 323 for today,

Boater – the point is Shola has been played out of position and in place of better options numerous times since Pardew has been in charge, if you do not see that then you are indeed blind. If you think Shola has any place at a football club other than cheer leader then you enjoy mediocrity.

His fitness and application is embarrassing and watching him jog around the pitch and give opposition players the freedom of St James Park is a disgrace and should not be allowed to happen.

Every other supporter of every other club in the country think he is a joke and is shite, however to some on here he is a club legend, not in my eyes, he has taken a spot and a salary out of our club that another player could have taken, who knows if he wasnt offered his current contract extension we may have a Michu or Graham running our frontline, actually closing people down.

When he is on the pitch we dont defend from the front which allows teams easy possession, and in turn opportunities to turn the screw.

  • 271 OhSholaAmeobi // Jan 23, 2013 at 6:04 PM

Simpson going would decrease the depth again, but we have santon, debuchy, perch, anita and tavernier for that position, plus it’s the only opporunity to get money for him. £1m would do.

cadete- were both right. He is a CB who plays also as a defensive midfielder. I watched Celtic a few times this season to see how Fraser was doing. Wanyama is one to watch but we could well be full up for DM’s anyway.

  • 275 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Jan 23, 2013 at 6:06 PM

I really do feel we need to complete the signing of Sissoko THIS window…we would automatically bully the midfield up making some competition for Tiote.

i really feel he is off form this year. Whatever the case giving in more bodies for EL too. And i would be chuffed if we got another REAL replacement for BA….very soon… Wolfwinke dinkle should be wrapped up soon.

  • 286 Williamson is Bramble in disguise // Jan 23, 2013 at 6:13 PM

I think Ed should do a poll on whether colo should remain as captain, or who should be captain.

I for one think he should lose the armband, and i personally would give it to benny boy, hes the one who means the most to the team, it would keep him here in the summer, and whenever he talks hes so positive, and ambitious, he works hard for pardew and sets an example, and he loves the fans. On the other hand, cabaye is a pretty good shout too!

Football has already borrowed the idea of the ‘assist’ from Ice Hockey
Another idea would be to borrow the idea of Assistant Captains. There are usually two in a hockey team. Colo can keep the captaincy unless he wants to relinquish it and Yo and Mapou can be Assistant Captains. As long as the roles are defined then no problem.

    Not rotating the two dembas
    Playing people out of position
Negative lineups with only 1 creative mid
    Playing willo, guti and shola
    Clueless subtitutions
    Hoofball tactics
Sitting back and defend a 1 goal deficite
Excuses in interviews (blaming players and fans)

Stop defending pardew and see that our nans would of done a better job this season, injuries included!

Pardews obviously here to stay, or atleast until the summer. We just have to hope these new signings can give the team a lift and kick willo guti and shola out the first team. Wel then hopefully climb the table and make pardew look special again!

Cheick – I think Pardew has a lot to account for this season. But I switch off when I see you banging on about Shola and Jonas – it comes across as a personal vendetta and you loose credibility.

Shola is what he is – his hip’s long gone so he struggle with mobility but he has always given his all without complaint. Then there’s the odd goal (some crucial) and hold up play off the bench – basically polyfiller for when the striker numbers are down. I love him but will be happy to see new strikers come in at the same time.

Jonas has had a bad season but then who hasn’t? It’s not like were leaving proven, influential players on the bench – Marveaux has only recently looked up to speed.

It’s reasonable to argue that the squad is in a worrying and sad state of depletion when Shola is one of only two senior strikers – the other one way off form – but then that’s not his fault, and actually neither is it Pardew’s fault.

Plus we are addressing the squad’s depth right now .. so why do you still feel the need to abuse players constantly?

It’s highly unlikely – but imagine a new signing came on here and saw the venom you and others hurl at one of their team mates without any accountability. They’d probably want out – at least think less of the fanbase’s loyalty.

Take a breather, look at things with reason not just anger. And support.

Boater – personally if i was a new signing and all of a sudden i had to put up with playing with Shola, i would have a worse opinion of him than myself. Nobody likes to do somebody elses graft, in fact that is a potential reason in when he plays and is made captain (Brighton), the rest of the team are totally uninspired by the notion.

He is supposed to be a good example, my arse, if he cared about the club he would be giving his just as uninterested brother pelters for his effort this year. There is simply no excuse for lack of fitness, being overweight and at times disinterested, same applies for Jonas who is a shadow of his former slef, and is clearly carrying too much timber.

For athletes who are paid a massive amount of money getting yourself as fit as possible should be a given. It is simply unforgivable that these two players currently are clearly shy of were they should be cardio wise.

cockney – up to this present moment in time, as always in football there is no absolute proof as to whether Percy is a good manager or not. His awards last season are cited by some as to his credibility -I recall that the likes of Joe Kinnear, Peter Reid, Coppell have all received these type of awards. The passage of time however may give the answers.
I personally think he should have not got the job in the first place and is out of his depth. (also that he will not change his ways due to his arrogance).
Question now is should he be managing the new look team – I honestly do not know as it might cause further disruption. However I do think he is on borrowed time and may be given the order of the boot in the summer.

Mister Tuff — your not about to come up with a conspiracy theory are you! That MA knew it would be difficult nigh on impossible to get the quality type player in if we did not have a manager in place. So he is waiting until that task is complete before sacking the current incumbent. Not too elaborate but where would he get a current reigning PL manager of the year. Oh!! You mean he doesn’t have to recruit one. So he can just concentrate on signing the cheques to bring in more players for Pardew.

  • 409 Jamesthefirst // Jan 23, 2013 at 7:53 PM

It’s quite clear that Ashley was p*****d off at the Remy snub and is now getting hands-on involved to make sure transfers happen.

2 lessons should be learned from this:

    1) ALWAYS invest in the summer. You cannot afford to stand still in the Premier League

    2) Leave Lllambarse out of all transfers. He is poison to this club. Telling Mike about purple zone players. Ashley should speak directly to Carr and the Manager, no one else.

And it has to be said, Ashley may dither around about signings (due to agent demands), but we are continuing to sign proper class players that improve the squad. Gone are the days of mercenaries and donkeys.

When this Jan transfer window shuts we will have the best squad many of us will have ever seen.

We have some casual types who shrug their shoulders and canter back when they lose the ball – but to be honest Santon and Marveaux spring to mind before Shola.

These guys look good on paper but may take time to bed in and one or two may not prove good enough for the PL.

What they do give us straightaway is the depth we’ve desperately missed and a squad that is starting to look realistically a top 6 proposition but aren’t we still lacking a top class out and out winger, or is Goufran expected to fill that role and really there are too many french speaking players.

Still very much early doors of a work in progress I imagine.

My take on San Lorenzo, having no information whatsoever to go on, is that Dad is doing a noble job trying to cover up for his son being caught out being a naughty boy, and trying to send up a smokescreen that Fab should come back for footballing reasons. Btw that thing about playing highballs is ridiculous play when you consider the height of our mid-fielders thought I’d research this:- :(
    Cabaye 5′ 8
    Anita 5′ 6.5
    Ben Arfa 5′ 10
    Gosling 5′ 11
    Amalfitano 5′ 8.5
    Guiterrez 6′ 0.5
    Bigi 5′ 8
    Marv 5′ 7.5
    Obertan 6′ 1.5
    Vuckic 6′ 1.5
    Abeid 5′ 11

So Obertan, Jonas & Vuckic are our only midfielders over 6 ft, so Krul try not to hoof it lad! Btw shame about Vuckic’s injury hopefully he can kick on next season and shows us what he can do. Btw Sissoko’s is circa 6’1…

And if Sir Bobby was now in charge of this squad we would be top4, thats the difference between a manager and a scapegoat seeker. ———-Cissokho—-Anita——-
    ——————Cabaye———
    ——-HBA————–Marveaux/Gouffran
    ——————-Cisse————

With actual depth on the bench! S.Taylor, Haidara, Jonas (who I think will work far better off the bench 25m a game), Obertan. Man I must be dreaming!

Hope to see Haidara & Gouffran with the black & white shirts tomorrow!

  • 444 jimmysmith // Jan 23, 2013 at 8:36 PM

Shola is a monster nowadays and a real handful for defenders in the right circumstance, but you cant be that big and highly mobile too, and Jonas isn’t overweight, I imagine for the opposite reason, because he never stops running. More likely he’s just overworked or has sadly lost a yard and gained some bulk with age.

It’s good to have both available although not as a starter in Sholas’ case and the same for Jonas on current form. He needs a spell certainly.

In view of recent posts, it might be worth my repeating my post after Debuchy was signed, but before any others, to the effect that:
    a) NUFC will still be a Premier League team next season
    b) NUFC manager at start of next season will be Alan Pardew
Any speculation considering any alternative to b) is wasted space.

Spuggy – he didnt, season was built on last ditch back to the wall defending and moments of brilliance from players such as Benny, Cisse, Ba and Cabaye.

I seen us outplayed at home by such power houses as Bolton, Wolves, Wigan, Norwich, Balckburn(cup) etc. He was one lucky man was Parsnip. I give him credit for everybody pulling in the same direction mind you, although clearly players have this year revolted against his style of play, which i admit has improved lately.

Weekend subs have to be considered the worst of all time IMO. Take off your 3 best players and leave your 2 worst on the pitch. Mystifying but sadly predictable.

Anyway, if we do sign this young French fullback then we’ll appear to have the best defence I’ve ever seen at Newcastle and that is fantastic for us and really canny transfer business.

You have to applaud Ashley for that, although yes of course tragically after the horse has bolted.

It is now very likely we will play 4-2-3-1. We have two attack minded fullbacks so need the two dm’s to cover.

Definitely think we need another ST. If Cisse was to get injured then we are in real trouble.

Think the striker will be a loan signing with option to buy. Around 20 and from a top team where he is surplus to requirements.

Bringing ranger on in games has been a massive disappointment.

Willo for a big guy wins less than obafemi did and he’s 5ft 7

  • 471 yo-yo // Jan 23, 2013 at 8:51 PM

We’ve still got two extremes on here still.

    Pardew’s fault 80-90%
    Everything else 10-20%
includes, injuries, suspensions, poor form from key players, bad luck, lack of summer signings etc)

    Pardew’s fault 20-30%
    Batman and Robin 30-40%
Bad form. luck, lack of signings, injuries ets. 30-50%

I don’t think anyone on here reckons AP is in the clear, so we go from 90% Pardew 10% everything else to 20% Pardew 80% everything else

And never in 44 years will the two meet.

Liverpool team included Shelvey and Spearing, get a grip, plus if that back 4 was so good last year, why is the same manager saying they are not up to the job this year, i tell you why, as the team is losing matches and he is deflecting his own failings onto his players, which in turn will make them not play for him.

He needs to take a bit of responsiblity for our current situation, he has done his best to blame everybody else so far. He will be blaming the canteen staff next.

  • 481 Spuggy // Jan 23, 2013 at 8:57 PM

Check – I’m bored with the Pards out now. Time to get behind the team. If pards was lucky that cabaye Ba Cisse and HBA showed moments of brilliance then I could argue that that pards got the best out of sub-standard players like Willo, Simmo, Obertan, Raylor and Perch.

You ream off teams like Bolton, Wolves, Wigan, Norwich and Balckburn(cup) like we should have expected to beat them. We were in our second season since relegation – whose to say we should have been any better than those teams, that’s just arrogance. You could name performances that were on the other hand brilliant – Manu 3-0 Arsenal 4-4 comeback for instance.

On top of that the players that arrived from france integrated so quickly into the team – I suppose you think this was nothing to do with the manager.

When we play well you say it’s the players, when we don’t you say it’s pardew. That’s a flawed argument.

I can’t even be bothered to get into a deep debate. He’s our manager right now – support him and the team.

    Krul
    Debuchy Mbiwa Collo/Saylor Santon
    Anita
    Cabaye Sissoko
    Gouffran Marv
    Cisse

F##king Great side that…….Same players easily fit into 4231, 442, 433 or whatever, Think Sissoko should be brought in as soon a s possible, if he isnt then would pick young Bigi, full of Energy or play Haidara full back and push Santon on, at least now we have options.

You may not agree but I think there is a fine line between winning and losing. We did enough to beat Reading but we somehow lost. With a more resolute defence we should have had a clean sheet and 3 point. It is not like Krul was overworked!

We need to more solid in defence. But for me the way that will work is keeping the ball higher up the pitch. We lose the ball far too often and often carelessly. So we need to get cabaye and Anita on the ball more and focus on shorter passing forwards with more movement. I would also like to see cabaye further up the pitch.

Yes – any poor form is just down to the manager for the 90% Pards fault crew, but Ba’s top form wasn’t.

  • 497 check the toastie // Jan 23, 2013 at 9:17 PM

Spuggy – nobody is more behind the team than me, it doesnt mean i cant have major concerns about how our manager goes about selecting his sides and criticising everybody associated with the club for this seasons slump apart from himself.

The same could be said about Routledge now doing much better under laudrup, man for man our squad should not be were it is in the league, we were last year for me an 8th placed side, same applies this year. Plaudits for Pardope last year, pelters this year, goes with the results.

Personally thought that we punched way above our performances in terms of finishing position last year and it could be put down to doggedness and work ethic that has slipped this year and we are suffering because of it.

Think we have actually missed Guthrie and Best, especially the way Pards has tried to play most of the season.

  • 498 check the toastie // Jan 23, 2013 at 9:20 PM

Bollance – totally agree, if we are trying to close games down Pardew should be introducing players who can keep the ball, not players who wil throw themselves in the way of it.

We should have beat Reading comfortably, personally i think we would have if he had played Obertan instead of Shola, or even brought him on at half time, Ian Harte cant run, so who does Pards put up against him…..wait for it……..tactical masterstroke………….Shola……Pfffttttt.

Routledge is also more experienced and to be fair was never a terrible player, at least as good as obertan if not better. Guthrie chose to leave due to lack of 1st team action and yes we never really replaced our bench – again that’s not pards fault.

Listen I’m not necessarily pro pardew – but he still IMO deserves a lot of credit for last season and has been incredibly unlucky this season – we’re top of the injury league, not only that but it’s been all our best players. Then no summer signings, Colo and Tiote red cards, Ba going, Colo debarcle – the list goes on.

To slam pards is way over the top. And inspite of the common misconception that he call everyone else but himself – I have heard him on numerous occasions say he got it wrong and will take the blame, most recently with the Marv sub (which is the only mistake he made IMO).

Let’s see how he does with this new look team and the return of our star players – he still has no Ba which is a HUGE loss I hope we replace this window – it may be gouffran but who knows.

I agree with you there, the ball boy hasn’t even had the chance to grab the ball and then a 20 odd year old man pushes him to floor. What makes me most pissd off some Chelsea start clapping. He may have kicked the ball but they can’t see that from there angle.

  • 559 check the toastie // Jan 23, 2013 at 9:51 PM

Gotta say i like the look of Goofy, he looks technical and quick, perfect for our team.

Sissoko would be an immense signing and we would defo have some team then.

    Krul
    Debuchy Mbiwa Collo Santon
    Cabaye Anita
    Goofy Sissoko Marv
    Papa

Dont even need to rush Benny Boy back,

Players to come in – Ben10, Tiote, Haidara, Jonas, Perchinho, Obertan, Shola,

All i would say is we need decent back up to Cisse and personally would buy Danny Graham, sure he would be happy being back up and would work his nuts off for the team and gives the squad a bit of geordie soul.

Does anybody still think that Mikey boy will try and get Carroll back at any point. I think he may if the price is right.

As for the striker situation we need quality not promise… Wolfswinkel is not the answer he’s only scored 1 in 3 this season and the fans want him out… they think he’s a donkey.I’ve seen more than enough of there fans slate him to make my mind up.

Now if he’s not good enough in the Portuguese League how is he good enough for the premiership??
And they say he’s a Dutch international he’s had 1 cap 2 years ago… that says a lot. He didn’t even make the provisional 35 man squad for euro 2012.

Step forward Alvaro Negrado… scores 1 in 2 in the best league in the world technically unbelievable, big game player and is the quality we need…. absolutely no way we’d go down with this guy.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY-3hne431c

Apparently we’re interested and he’s said he wants to play in England but can we afford him??? hmmmm

Why is it we are not behind the team because we can not see a future with Pardew?

Your bord with the Pardew out , fine, you carnt be much of a football fan , he has us playing some the worst football I have ever seen us play,
If this bad run had of been with any other manager he would have been gone a long time ago, 2 wins in 18 out of 2 cups , no fight in the team, no style of play, the biggest excuse book on the world , but its Pardew , I just don’t get it’s not like he came to us with a proven records from a string of other clubs, but what he is doing is setting all the wrong records for us,

To be quite honest , I’m getting over him not being sacked , he is going to take us down , then what will you say , oooops

Villa away ( we have not won away all season)
    Chelsea
    Spuds
Max 3 points if we are lucky in the next 3 games

He should be run out of the club,

Great season last year , but still got one very low win ratio for us

Catchy, Check and I are moving on from the pards debacle. Time will tell.

Let’s see where we are come the end of the season – if we get sissoko too and he can’t improve performance and result then he will go regardless of what we think. He has 4-5 games to start picking up points.

We’ve debated him to death – time now to get behind the team which means getting behind the manager, cause he’s the only one we got right now.

  • 575 Jackel001 // Jan 23, 2013 at 10:03 PM

Don’t get me wrong there’s no place for it, but the boy did make a meal of it and if you watch Hazard’s foot it bounces back so he did make contact with the ball more than the lad.

It will be overturned because he’ll be banned for our game!

I actually felt sorry for hazard there. Your chasing a game 2-0 down and there is a trip to wembley on the cards. Those ball boys had been instructed to take the absolute P1ss there. Is that not cheating?

Did anyone witness the ball boy dive on the ball haha? And the play acting that followed with his fake injury? He never touched him? Swansea should be ashamed. Roll the ball slow back to them aye but that sort of carry on? Dear me. He kicked the ball from under him and picked him up.

Haha so they are stringing out our signing announcements in order to keep us happy…I feel like I am being played by the club

    Paps
Id imagine its because we are in a load of crap and (some of) the fans have turned on the club stringing out the signings cheers people up I suppose

  • 652 Eddie // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:03 PM

4-4-2? With our wing-backs any 4-4-2 is going to need a pretty compact midfield (ie no wingers – or maybe just one).

Captain of the team, best CB and probably nufcs best player this season. DAMN IT!!

  • 671 Paps // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:12 PM

Don’t see colo as that type of person. Can understand him trying to find a new clube but not just to leave like this when lorenzo dont want him anymore

Glad MYM has been assigned the acronym…alot easier.

MYM picture with the shirt was taken today, it showed it on nufctv.

  • 673 archaeomag // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:13 PM

    @Eddie
the best teams seem quite fluid about formations, eg 5 in midfield when not in possession; midfielders getting ahead of the ball when in possession.
    - I like Anita’s sense of positioning – often seen closing down their back 4 with the forwards.

  • 674 Eddie // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:15 PM

It’s funny how, in this day and age, when the sordid details of any celebrity’s private life are bandied about willy-nilly, that we know sod all about Colo’s “problems” (except for some dubious conjecture about a lass and a bun in the oven). Perhaps Mrs Colo had one stottie cake too many.

  • 675 Robby Bobson // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:15 PM

And to be honest i think the wolfswinkel talk isnt true…Gouffran is our replacement striker IMO, hence the investment elsewhere in the squad. If we signed Remy, doubt we would have gotten MYM and Haidara.

Will be interesting to see what happens if Colo does a Tevez though, cant see us spending another 8 mill on someone like alderweirld. Probably be Tayls time to shine.

  • 676 WWYCD // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:15 PM

Alright calm down kids just because one rag (or even a couple) decide Colo is going on strike doesn’t mean its true lets just wait a bit and see what happened before we slate the bloke (again)

This site already has Haidara down as a £3,000,000 purchase, sure it’s just a case of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.

As for Colo, there’s no quotes from him or anyone else for that matter so it could just be artistic licence by the reporter in the independant article. Would be a shame if he’s reached a point where he refuses to play again for us, wonder what would drive him to that decision?

  • 703 archaeomag // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:31 PM

    @Eddie
Anita is a gem – in possession – he is always running into space ahead of the ball.
& Sissoko would be dream signing.

On the formation thing; I think the real problem is getting quality balls into the strikers – Ba [& Cisse] was great at turning bad balls into goals by sheer technique.

  • 704 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:32 PM

  • 711 pedro // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:34 PM

Absolutely no news of Coloccini walking out of Newcastle in the press here in Argentina. All the stories just say that the link is now dead as Newcastle would not agree and that San Lorenzo are now going to sign Mauro Cetto, who has been their second choice all along. Perhaps a deal could be done in June but no more talk of now and considering the Argentine press have been writing a lot of the last few weeks and would love this to be true I can’t help thinking its a more crap from the Independent.
Only other story here regarding English clubs is Man Utd wanting to sign Ezequiel Garay as a replacement for Rio. They have made a bid apparently but Benfica want double the valuation, close to 30 million.

It would be a crying shame as we have been in need of another quality cb to play alongside him so for him to leave would have us back at square one.

Davy – I was a little worried yesterday that mbiwa was colo’s replacement but I hope it isn’t the case. Mirin could do well here and won’t break the bank.

Hate to sound pessimistic but with Mbiwa being highly rated, having dreams of playing for top teams and suggesting we can challenge for the league I cannot see him staying put for very long, maybe two and a half seasons max. I trust the board to sort it out though…… eventually

It needs a statement from the club and player. Its untenable to have uncertainty over the club captain. I dont care what any non-wee club thinks but the Mags’ club captain is the capo di tutti capi or however the Italians spell it. Help me out here, Davide.

Its either a justifiably mitigated move or he gets the hell outta Dodge and I remove his picture of him with his arm on my shoulder off my phone (sobs uncontrollably). :(

  • 734 surreytoon // Jan 23, 2013 at 11:45 PM

Either The Indy is on to something with their latest “exclusive” or they arent.

If they are, then it appears Colos lawyers have advised him that walking out is an option. What could Man City do when Tevez did the same? Terminate his contract? Exactly what Tevez and in our case Colo wants i.e leave for free.

Fine wages? Boo hoo, I aint coming to work

    It is a damn mess.

If is the game Colo is playing, then he is an ungrateful fothermucker.

Ultimately we hold his registration so he cant play for anyone else and wont get paid. That is why Tevez ultimately came back but at 30 Colo may not care.

Either we call his bluff or we threaten to sue him for breach of contract and our anticipated loss (his sales value or contract length x wages)

What is it with these Argies?!?

Just a word of cautionto all you Toon fans on cloud nine after recent couple of days. There is still 8 days of the window left. MA needs to finance these deals & he will do this by selling players. If it’s the likes of Williamson,Obertan & Simmo then OK but just a feeling it may be Krul &/or Tiote. If Colo walks out then we need another class CB. Then Pards needs to get the new lads gelling & quick. Three tough games coming up. MA has on the face of it delivered albeit 6 months too late. Now it’s down to the players on the pitch to battle for every point

MYM is good enough to fill his boots, just a pity if it all ended like it has…If it has.

Maybe the rift between Spanish speaking, French speaking players is true and the influx of more French stars has also contributed…

If Sissoko comes then for me Tiote can go. If Krul goes we have to buy Butland. Fear is is near complete change at the back what we want with just 15 games to go? Perhaps Lescott on loan would be the answer short term especially with Saylor injury prone. Cabaye seems natural choice for captain

I will hang fire because Colo has been my fave player and sorry to ITK again but I know he rejected inquiries from Real Madrid last year (yes THAT Real Madrid) because he was proud to be the club captain.

BUT… if he does dig his heels in and not play then he is dead to me DEAD TO ME! You Broke my heart Colo, you broke my etc…..

Its not the missus being homesick, she has never liked it here and she has spent more time back in the land of silver than here but has go on with it. I dont think its the playing away thing either because if the media can get Prince Harry in the buff on the front pages they can get the dirty on a wee clubs’ Argentinian captain. He needs to speak out or be damned. Damned I say!

Its something or bust isnt it? cant remember the saying……. TV money is ridiculous next year with BT adding to the pot with their surprise bid. Its all a bit desperate down the bottom of the table and thankfully Ashley seems to know that its worth an all-in bid, We are heading towards being the biggest spenders of this window and if we stay up then the same commitment and talent that keeps us up will put us up the top next season.

JB, we won’t pick up £130 mil from tv money, it will increased by roughly 70% so tv money will be in the region of £70 to £80 mil, maybe our total turnover could reach £130mil but not the tv money alone ;-)

This transfer window has been good..

    Debuchy, Mbiwa, Haidra, Gouffran,

Have we gained much with these signing’s?

Yes is the answer with Debuchy, and Mbiwa,, we can hope for the best with the other two ..Sissokho would be a perfect window… A top striker might be asking to much ..but if it means survival then its a no brainer someone with a great goals record even in the short term would be the right thing to do… ..there was an Italian striker mentioned ..checked him out last week… he’s ruthless..cant recall the name ..anyone ?

when you look that we picked up 54 million for last season, there is 70% increase next season and you have to add the international rights payments as well. Next season may be short of the 130 million mark but from the 13/14 season it could be well over that figure.

    From the Telegraph

The astonishing growth in the value of domestic broadcast rights, from £1.7 billion in the current three-year cycle to £3.018 billion for the three years from the 2013-14 season, has led many to speculate that the overall Premier League income could rise beyond £5 billion once its international broadcast contracts are concluded.

For the pardew out brigade and everyone else…

These are the reasons our season is poor:

    - Lack of summer transfers – especially at CB and RB – lack of squad depth for Europa
    - Injuries to star players for much of the season
    - Out of form players – Cisse and tiote
    - Very heavy Europa fixture schedule first part of season – some first team players had to play fixtures due to lack of depth
    - Anita and marveaux having mixed/poor starts to the season (often without tiote or cabaye)
    - Some poor tactical decisions

This is 10-20% pardews fault and 80-90% other factors in my opinion.

    Evidence to follow…

Watched the Bradford center back ..Lanky one ..went up for everything, battled his guts out ..more skill and poise on the ball than Willo ..Willo looks about the same class as blue square prem types…really…He looks like he would be out of place in a Gateshead team… He is near that standard when he has one of his days ..and that usually manifests itself at some point in most of our games…

Willo has some decent skills and is ok 75% of the time but always gets caught flatfooted and lacks concentration at vital period’s in a game

The worst thing about willo is his nervous system, Get that in check and he might just turn out ok ..Its effecting his entire being ..shame really

Teams coming up against us do the homework and they got to be laughing their co*s off the night before a game knowing that they will be playing against Willo..

My worry is that Pardew will play him against Villa and he will be fodder for Benteke to have a laugh at

I say this with the logic that Pardew will think he cannot change the defence in a big way ..got to integrate slowly ..That’s understandable really ..but Willo out for Taylor pleaseeeeeee

The Collo “story” has been going on for a couple of months now -it needs to be resolved one way or another. Whilst it probably won’t diminish the good news about all the signings -the club could really do without the distraction at this moment in time. It’s not good for all sides.

  • 800 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 12:29 AM

I think clubs get around 35m basic for UK and overseas viewing rights combined. Then every league place is worth 755k so we got 10m from finishing fifth, also every game that is shown on sky generates almost 460k and I think you’re guaranteed 10 games minimum.

Next season I’m not sure how it increases but i read that each league place will be worth 1.5m so finishing tenth would generate an extra 7.5m (gouffran, sissoko, haidara ;)) and that’s is without any increases to sky live games and basic viewing rights

Article 17 of FIFA’s Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players is entitled “Consequences of Terminating a Contract Without Just Cause”, and is the fifth article of Chapter IV, “Maintenance of Contractual Stability between Professionals and Clubs”. It outlines the provisions which apply if a contract is terminated without just cause, and the requirement for the party in breach to pay compensation.[9] Specifically, it states that any player who signed a contract before the age of 28 can buy himself out of the contract three years after the deal was signed. If he is 28 or older the time limit is shortened to two years.[10][11] Article 17 was introduced in December 2004, with effect from 1 July 2005.[12]

There is the biggest issue with Pardew.

Why the hell is Cisse on the wing in the first place???

After the way the lad was scoring for fun last season he had the brainwave of changing our formation just to keep Ba happy because he didn’t like playing on the left of a front three.

Bare in mind that this came after he had persisted with a 4-4-2 formation that simply did not work.
Pardew is at fault for a lot of what has gone wrong this season

Demba was the best striker at our club in years – had every right to play through the middle. Why would you leave cisse who is also a top class striker out. As for nearly got us to champions league – that was also Cabaye, Colo, Tiote, HBA etc…. you know the players who have missed half the season so far.

    Spuggy

Not saying that everything is down to Pardew, because it’s not, but again, a better manager would get more out of our squad

  • 827 JackButler // Jan 24, 2013 at 12:50 AM

    Spuggy

HE CHANGED A WINNING FORMATION TO KEEP ONE PLAYER HAPPY

  • 828 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 12:50 AM

So he tried to play 442 to Ba and Cisse up front (who wouldn’t) and they failed to gel so he puts the best striker up front and Cisse on right (not wing) as part of 3 forward line.

There is a logic to that even if you disagree with it. He did drop cisse a few games and played with one striker but that didn’t work either, not like he didn’t try to make it work.

  • 829 YorkshiresFinestGeordie // Jan 24, 2013 at 12:51 AM

Has anyone seen this new LB then?????

  • 830 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 12:51 AM

A better manager would get more out of squad? Like last season you mean with Simmo, Willo, Raylor, Perch and Obertan.

Our second string is miles off the quality of our first and we’ve had to many firsts missing this season.

  • 831 MacToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 12:52 AM

One thing you can say about Pardew, he is a trier.

  • 832 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 12:52 AM

JB – so nothing to worry about then as colo would need 10m to buy out his contract?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21165942

Back on the top 20 for revenue across European teams, amongst seven other clubs from the English premier league (man united, Chelsea, arsenal, man city, Liverpool, spurs, Newcastle). That is one of the reasons I believe we should be challenging for seventh most seasons as financially we are a big club.

  • 833 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 12:52 AM

The player he was keeping happy has been our best player this season by a mile – if he wasn’t performing fair enough, but demba was the man for the no 9 role this season, hands down.

  • 834 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 12:56 AM

Spuggy – even with marveaux, Anita, bigi? Cisse and hba from the start of the season as opposed to jan last year?

  • 835 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:01 AM

    Well done Spuggy. Good effort.

I tried to explain this. I wouldn’t stand by as Pardew was wrapped for alot of problems he had no involvement in.

The facts are all there to be seen.

Whilst i agree he has made mistakes tactically. There is no manager on this planet who could of did any better with that squad with so many injuries and lack of quality in depth. He could of did things differently but the quality he had to choose from was never good enuf.

What ever people say, he has not deserved the criticism some people give him on here. Nor does he deserve anywhere near the sack. Its ridiculous really. Some people just dislike the bloke and our willing to divert/twist any sort of wrong doing his way.

The question and answer is simple really.

Would we be where we are in the league right now with the correct backing in the summer and the quality of depth brought in we needed?

    No we wouldn’t.

    I applaud your efforts.

  • 836 obatoyou // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:04 AM

Man o man, we’re all excited we’ve got some top class players in!! Ed sleepin :)
    We love NUFC,

On a different note, are our new signings allowed to play in the Europa League?

  • 837 BDin9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:06 AM

Haidara not signed yet?Maybe he has but the club think we can’t take any more good news. RVW would be icing on the cake if we get him.Big if though but live in hope.

  • 838 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:07 AM

    @nick9

I would argue that in spite of our initial injuries our start to the season was decent upto the 1-1 draw with liverpool in Nov. When Cabaye and HBA got long term injuries we really started to dive – what does that tell you – they are instrumental to our team (and last season).

    @ toon-prodicgy

Thanks. I just got really frustrated tonight with the continuing pardew negative crowd and decided to put the facts in front of everyone.

  • 839 obatoyou // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:08 AM

Haidara and Sissoko and Van Wolfswinkel, would be tops mate

  • 840 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:08 AM

@ nick9 0 ser e my post at 795 for our decent start to season upto nov liverpool game.

  • 841 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:09 AM

    @spuggy 795
All you do is make excuses for Pardew,we had this player missing and that player in another game. What about the opposition who did they have missing.saying we played in Europe 3 days before etc but don’t mention mainly reserve players used.So many injuries yet Marv on the bench or not at all.Ba lucky to get away with handball goal at Reading. If Pardew is so great as he got manager of the year why doesn’t he just get on with his job and and prove why he is so special instead of moaning and making excuse after excuse just like you do.

  • 842 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:12 AM

    Daztoon,

Pardew has made mistakes tactically. BUT you do not sack a manager on tactic mistakes alone. Every manager gets it wrong.

  • 843 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:14 AM

    @ daz.

Some of the 1st team travelled to Europa away games and some were used plus it prevent preparation. Marv wasn’t great start of season he’s coming good lately and has been used more lately.

If we all ignore injuries why dont we just but championship players and get a great manager then we’ll make top 6.

    Foolish.

  • 844 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:15 AM

I deal in facts not excuses.

  • 845 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:15 AM

Better managers have been sacked with better records than Pardew and he would have gone at most clubs by now with 2 wins in 18 games

  • 846 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:16 AM

Man this is so tiresome! Same old arguments without people willing to budge or consider both sides. Here’s some useless stats for you that im sure people will interpret however they want:

Mike williamson starts this season – 18
Entire starts last season – 21

Ben arfa starts this season – 13
Entire starts last season – 16

James Perch starts this season – 14
Entire starts last season – 13

    Cisse this season – 20
    Last seasons starts – 13

    Tiote this season – 13
Entire starts last season – 24

    Best – 16, Guthrie 13, Marveaux 1
    Anita 16, Bigi 3, Marveaux 7

More of Cisse, Marveaux and Ben Arfa, more of Willo and Perch. Less of Cabaye, guthrie and Best. Taylor only started 25 games last season.

All waffle but i think last season tiote and cabaye had points to prove and covered a lot of ground chasing the ball down. Ba and Cisse banged in plenty of goals winning us points in the process.

  • 847 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:18 AM

    @spuggy
Load of crap how about Wigan only having 10 players most of the game or the battering at Southampton could have been 5 or 6.manager of the year only gets 1 lucky point from reading in 2 games. Not good enough with the quality he has at the club

  • 848 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:20 AM

Using your stats I blame Barton for our downfall.

  • 849 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:21 AM

Ok spuggy is it not a fact that we have not won against a side previously managed by par dew this season

  • 850 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:25 AM

Cabaye,Tiote.Guti weren’t great at start of season but got games so you can’t use that excuse either. Its just negative Pardew football he ain’t good enough

  • 851 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:26 AM

    @ dav

Wigan 10 men – so what we won without cabaye and HBA that’s a good result how is that bad?

No colo cabaye or HBA for S’hampton, fergy played and anita was still finding his feet. We lost 2-0 away from home without 3 top players and willo simmo in defense and fergy and sammy on the pitch.

  • 852 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:27 AM

    Daz I meant.

Our early season results were decent, apart from perhaps villa – right upto Nov draw with liverpool.

  • 853 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:28 AM

Spuggy i have replied on the next article.

Our season has been far from convincing and its not solely down to injuries.

QPR – Shola rescued us with a late winner after a dire game.
Wigan – Went a man down and Wigan still looked threating, we looked void of any ideas.

West Brom – Deflected 93rd minute winner.

Tottenham – No idea how we won that.

Villa – draw, ben arfa screamer.

  • 854 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:30 AM

HOw many times have manu scored a 90+ winner. A win is a win.

SPuds are a decent team, we were lucky but we won.

Villa was a poor game, HBA saved us.

QPR was won by shola and obertan – both pards subs.

    We beat wigan 3-0!

  • 855 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:32 AM

Our early season was garbage too what games were you watching. He has a squad of 25 plus our so called cream of the crop youngsters and we can’t beat west ham,Swansea,Reading,Southampton,Fulham.Win 1-0 vs the worst team in the league qpr

  • 856 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:33 AM

    Daztoon,

The fact he hasn’t gone should tell you he is not to blame for the disastrous season to date. Maybe tactically inept in games but deserve the sack? Ludicrous Daz.

The board are to blame for the gamble in the summer.

1st team players underperforming due to low confidence and morale due to the gamble by the board. They have underperformed all season since the start.

Lack of quality in depth. NUFC having to field fringe players/development through lack of cover.

Anita played all over the park. Its his first season, bedding in time. He has been played all over the park.

Lack of a consistent starting 11. No winning formula found, no rythmn. With European games to juggle also.

Pardew under enourmous pressure because of the boards gamble in the summer. Lack of quality in depth. Playing players he has no choice but to field that are no where near ready. Made tactical mistakes. Could of played this player here that player there. (Great in himdsight).

I sometimes wonder if we were sitting in 5th right now, how many ppl/posters would be discussing his wrong doings on here. I feel ppl are only noticing because they are looking for ine scapegoat. When in reality there is a hell of alot of bigger problems at NUFC in 2013.

He isn’t blameless. But he is not the reason we are two points from relegation. This is a fact.

  • 857 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:35 AM

Yeah and Pards subs won us the game v Reading,Fulham.I think you are Pardews love child

  • 858 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:42 AM

Yes he is to blame last season we played well in a handful of games we well over achieved not through Pardew being such a good coach, more through a lot of luck.the pen at manure, wolves away they have 2 good goals chalked off and ref missed a couple of pen shouts.Fulham,Everton at home outplayed us and deserved a point
